Let $(X,d)$ be a compact metric space, $f:X \mapsto X$ be a continuous map with the specification property, and $φ: X \mapsto \IR$ be a continuous function. We prove a variational principle for topological pressure (in the sense of Pesin and Pitskel) for non-compact sets of the form \[ \{x \in X : \lim_{n \ra \infty} \frac{1}{n} \sum_{i = 0}^{n-1} φ(f^i (x)) = α\}. \] Analogous results were previously known for topological entropy. As an application, we prove multifractal analysis results for the entropy spectrum of a suspension flow over a continuous map with specification and the dimension spectrum of certain non-uniformly expanding interval maps.
In this paper, we introduce topological pressure for continuous actions of countable sofic groups on compact metrizable spaces. This generalizes the classical topological pressure for continuous actions of countable amenable groups on such spaces. We also establish the variational principle for topological pressure in this sofic context.
The notion of topological pressure was introduced by Ruell and also he formulated a variational principle for the topological pressure. Pesin and Pitskel introduced a definition of topological on subsets inspired by Hausdorff dimension. In this paper, we considered the topological pressure of a noncompact subset for amenable group actions and showed that under the tempered condition, we get the variational principle for topological pressure.
In this paper, we investigate the relations between various types of topological pressures and different versions of measure-theoretical pressures. We extend Feng- Huang's variational principle for packing entropy to packing pressure and obtain two new variational principles for Pesin-Pitskel and packing pressures respectively. We show that various types of Katok pressures for an ergodic measure with respect to a potential function are equal to the sum of measure-theoretic entropy of this measure and the integral of the potential function. Moreover, we obtain Billingsley type theorem for packi…
This paper discusses the variational principles on subsets for topological pressure and topological entropy of non-autonomous dynamical systems. We define the Pesin-Pitskel topological pressure (weighted topological pressure) and the Bowen topological entropy (weighted Bowen topological entropy) for any subset. Also, we define the measure-theoretic pressure and the measure-theoretic lower entropy for all Borel probability measures. Then, we prove variational principles for topological pressure (topological entropy) which links the Pesin-Pitskel topological pressure (weighted topological pressu…

Let $(X,d,f)$ be a dynamical system, where $(X,d)$ is a compact metric space and $f:X\rightarrow X$ is a continuous map. Using the concepts of \textit{g-almost product property} and \textit{uniform separation property} introduced by Pfister and Sullivan in \cite{Pfister2007}, we give a variational principle for certain non-compact with relation the asymptotically additive topological pressure. We also study the set of points that are irregular for an collection finite or infinite of asymptotically additive sequences and we show that carried the full asymptotically additive topological pressure…
In this paper, inspired by the article [5], we introduce the induced topological pressure for a topological dynamical system. In particular, we prove a variational principle for the induced topological pressure.
In this paper we introduce the definition of topological $r$-pressure of free semigroup actions on compact metric space and provide some properties of it. Through skew-product transformation into a medium, we can obtain the following two main results. 1. We extend the result that the topological pressure is the limit of topological $r$-pressure in\cite{C} to free semigroup actions ($r\to 0$). 2. Let $f_i,$ $i=0, 1, \cdots, m-1$, be homeomorphisms on a compact metric space. For any continuous function, we verify that the topological pressure of $f_0, \cdots, f_{m-1}$ equals the topological pres…
The goal of this paper is to define and investigate those topological pressures, which is an extension of topological entropy presented by Feng and Huang [13], of continuous transformations. This study reveals the similarity between many known results of topological pressure. More precisely, the investigation of the variational principle is given and related propositions are also described. That is, this paper defines the measure theoretic pressure $P_μ(T,f)$ for any $μ\in{\mathcal M(X)}$, and shows that $P_B(T,f,K)=\sup\bigr\{P_μ(T,f):μ\in{\mathcalM(X)},μ(K)=1\bigr\}$, where $K\subseteq X$ is…
We define the topological pressure for any sub-additive potentials of the countable discrete amenable group action and any given open cover. A local variational principle for the topological pressure is established.
This paper is devoted to the study of the topological pressure dimension for almost additive sequences, which is an extension of topological entropy dimension. We investigate fundamental properties of the topological pressure dimension for almost additive sequences. In particular, we study the relationships among different types of topological pressure dimension and identifies an inequality relating them. Also, we show that the topological pressure dimension is always equal to or greater than 1 for certain special almost additive sequence.
The topological pressure is defined for subadditive sequence of potentials in bundle random dynamical systems. A variational principle for the topological pressure is set up in a very weak condition. The result may have some applications in the study of multifractal analysis for random version of nonconformal dynamical systems.
In this paper, we define the topological pressure for sub-additive potentials via separated sets in random dynamical systems and we give a proof of the relativized variational principle for the topological pressure.
Topological pressures of the preimages of $ε$-stable sets and some certain closed subsets of stable sets in positive entropy systems are investigated. It is showed that the topological pressure of any topological system can be calculated in terms of the topological pressure of the preimages of $ε$-stable sets. For the constructed closed subset of the stable set or the unstable set of any point in a measure-theoretic `rather big' set of a topological system with positive entropy, especially for the weakly mixing subset contained in the closure of stable set and unstable set, it is proved that t…
In this paper, we introduce the notions of topological pressure and measure-theoretic entropy for a free semigroup action. Suppose that a free semigroup acts on a compact metric space by continuous self-maps. To this action, we assign a skew-product transformation whose fiber topological pressure is taken to be the topological pressure of the initial action. Some properties of these two notions are given, and then we give two main results. One is the relationship between the topological pressure of the skew-product transformation and the topological pressure of the free semigroup action, the o…
In a singular potential setting, we generalize a method which allows to show that minimizers under topological constraints of the action functional (or of the Maupertuis') are collision-free. This methods applies to $3$-dimensional problems of celestial mechanics exhibiting a particular cylindrical symmetry, as well as to planar problems of $N$-centre type, where it gives optimal results.
In this paper, we showed that the Pesin pressure of any subset under a mistake function is equal to the classical Pesin pressure of the subset in dynamical systems. Our result extended the result of [1] in additive case, which proved the topological pressure of the whole system is self adaptable under a mistake function. As an application, we showed that the Pesin pressure defined by average metric is equal to the classical Pesin pressure.
In this paper, we introduce the unstable topological pressure for C^1-smooth partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with sub-additive potentials. Moreover, without any additional assumption, we have established the expected variational principle which connects this unstable topological pressure and the unstable measure theoretic entropy, as well as the corresponding Lyapunov exponent.
This paper defines and discusses the dimension notion of topological slow entropy of any subset for Z^d actions. Also, the notion of measure-theoretic slow entropy for Z^d actions is presented, which is modified from Brin and Katok [2]. Relations between Bowen topological entropy [3,17] and topological slow entropy are studied in this paper, and several examples of the topological slow entropy in a symbolic system are given. Specifically, a variational principle is proved.
Ovadia and Rodriguez-Hertz (Neutralized local entropy, arXiv:2302.10874) defined the neutralized Bowen open ball for an autonomous dynamical system on a compact metric space. Replacing the usual Bowen open ball with neutralized Bowen open ball, we introduce the notions of neutralized Bowen topological entropy of subsets, neutralized weighted Bowen topological entropy of subsets, lower neutralized Brin-Katok's local entropy of Borel probability measures, and neutralized Katok's entropy of Borel probability measures for a non-autonomous dynamical system on a compact metric space. Then, we establ…
Climenhaga showed the applicability of Bowen equation to arbitrary subset of a compact metric space. The main purpose of this paper is to generalize the main result of Climenhaga to free semigroup actions for non-compact sets. We introduce the notions of the topological pressure and lower and upper capacity topological pressure of a free semigroup action for non-compact sets by using the Caratheodory- Pesin structure. Some properties of these notions are given, followed by three main results. One is to characterize the Hausdorff dimension of arbitrary subset in term of the topological pressure…
We extend the definition of topological pressure to locally compact Hausdorff spaces, and we demonstrate a "variational principle" comparing the topological and measure theoretic pressures. Given a continuous $\mathbb{Z}_+^N$-action $T$ over a locally compact Hausdorff space $X$ and a continuous function vanishing at infinity $f \in C_0(X)$, we define topological pressure $P(T,f)$ using open covers of a special type we call "admissible covers". With this topological pressure, we demonstrate that \begin{equation*} P(T,f) = \sup_μ P_μ(T,f), \end{equation*} where the supremum is taken over all $T…
In this paper, we continue our investigation on sub-additive pressures for $C^1$-smooth partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms. Under the assumption of unstable almost product property, we show that the unstable Bowen topological pressure on the saturated set of a given non-empty compact connected set of invariant measures equals the infimum of the summation of unstable metric entropy and the corresponding \emph{Lyapunov exponent}, where the infimum is taken over all invariant measures inside the compact connected set above. Moreover, we also show that the unstable topological capacity pressure …
In this paper, unstable metric entropy, unstable topological entropy and unstable pressure for partially hyperbolic endomorphisms are introduced and investigated. A version of Shannon-McMillan-Breiman Theorem is established, and a variational principle is formulated, which gives a relationship between unstable metric entropy and unstable pressure (unstable topological entropy). As an application of the variational principle, some results on the $u$-equilibrium states are given.
Motivated by fractal geometry of self-affine carpets and sponges, Feng--Huang (2016) introduced weighted topological entropy and pressure for factor maps between dynamical systems, and proved variational principles for them. We introduce a new approach to this theory. Our new definitions of weighted topological entropy and pressure are very different from the original definitions of Feng--Huang. The equivalence of the two definitions seems highly nontrivial. Their equivalence can be seen as a generalization of the dimension formula for the Bedford--McMullen carpet in purely topological terms.
Based on the Carathéodory -Pesin structure theory[11], we introduce three notions of topological pressure of a proper map and provide some properties of these notions. For the proper map of a locally compact separable metric space, we prove some variational principles and give some applications. These are the extensions of results of Pesin, Takens and Verbiski, etc.
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a $C^2$ random partially hyperbolic dynamical system. For the unstable foliation, the corresponding unstable metric entropy, unstable topological entropy and unstable pressure via the dynamics of $\mathcal{F}$ on the unstable foliation are introduced and investigated. A version of Shannon-McMillan-Breiman Theorem for unstable metric entropy is given, and a variational principle for unstable pressure (and hence for unstable entropy) is obtained. Moreover, as an application of the variational principle, equilibrium states for the unstable pressure including Gibbs $u$-states …
Given a non-conformal repeller $Λ$ of a $C^{1+γ}$ map, we study the Hausdorff dimension of the repeller and continuity of the sub-additive topological pressure for the sub-additive singular valued potentials. Such a potential always possesses an equilibrium state. We then use a substantially modified version of Katok's approximating argument, to construct a compact invariant set on which the corresponding dynamical quantities (such as Lyapunov exponents and metric entropy) are close to that of the equilibrium measure. This allows us to establish continuity of the sub-additive topological press…
The cookie-cutter-like set is defined as the limit set of a sequence of classical cookie-cutter mappings. For this cookie-cutter set it is shown that the topological pressure function exists, and that the fractal dimensions such as the Hausdorff dimension, the packing dimension and the box-counting dimension are all equal to the unique zero $h$ of the pressure function. Moreover, it is shown that the $h$-dimensional Hausdorff measure and the $h$-dimensional packing measure are finite and positive.
In this paper we introduce the notions of topological entropy and topological pressure for non-autonomous iterated function systems (or NAIFSs for short) on countably infinite alphabets. NAIFSs differ from the usual (autonomous) iterated function systems, they are given \cite{LGMU} by a sequence of collections of continuous maps on a compact topological space, where maps are allowed to vary between iterations. Several basic properties of topological pressure and topological entropy of NAIFSs are provided. Especially, we generalize the classical Bowen's result to NAIFSs ensures that the topolog…
For a class of one-dimensional holomorphic maps f of the Riemann sphere we prove that for a wide class of potentials h the topological pressure is entirely determined by the values of h on the repelling periodic points of f. This is a version of a classical result of Bowen for hyperbolic diffeomorphisms in the holomorphic non-uniformly hyperbolic setting.
This note is concerned with approximation of dynamical indicators as pressures, Lyapunov exponents and dimension-like quantities, in systems with nonuniformly hyperbolic behavior. For this we let $P^*(Φ) := \sup_μ\{h(μ) + μ(Φ)\}$ be a variational pressure defined over a suitable class of Borel measurable potentials and prove that, for regular nonuniformly hyperbolic systems, $P^*(Φ) = \sup_ΩP^*(f|Ω,Φ)$, supremum taken over the family of $f$-invariant uniformly hyperbolic basic sets. We then apply this variational principle to the approximation of dynamical indicators by horseshoes.
We define a notion of dynamical pressure at a self-adjoint element for a contractive completely positive self-map of an exact C*-algebra which adopts Voiculescu's approximation approach to noncommutative entropy and extends the Voiculescu-Brown topological entropy and Neshveyev-Stormer unital-nuclear pressure. A variational inequality bounding the pressure below by the free energies with respect to the Sauvageot-Thouvenot entropy is established in two stages via the introduction of a local state approximation entropy, whose associated free energies function as an intermediate term. Pimsner C*-…
We introduce four, a priori different, notions of topological pressure for possibly discontinuous semiflows acting on compact metric spaces and observe that they all agree with the classical one when restricted to the continuous setting. Moreover, for a class of \emph{impulsive semiflows}, which are examples of discontinuous systems, we prove a variational principle. As a consequence, we conclude that for this class of systems the four notions coincide and, moreover, they also coincide with the notion of topological pressure introduced in \cite{ACS17}.
Inspired to the work of Ma and Wu\cite{Ma} and Climenhaga\cite{Climenhaga}, we introduce the new nation of topological pressure of a semigroup of maps by using the Carathéodory-Pesin structure (C-P structure) with respect to arbitrary subset in this paper. Moreover, by Bowen's equation, we characterize the Hausdorff dimension of an arbitrary subset, where the points of the subset have the positive lower Lyapunov exponents and satisfy a so called tempered contraction condition.
