We analyze charge-$e/4$ quasiparticle tunneling between the edges of a point contact in a non-Abelian model of the $ν=5/2$ quantum Hall state. We map this problem to resonant tunneling between attractive Luttinger liquids and use the time-dependent density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method to compute the current through the point contact in the presence of a {\it finite voltage difference} between the two edges. We confirm that, as the voltage is decreases, the system is broken into two pieces coupled by electron hopping. In the limits of small and large voltage, we recover the results expected from perturbation theory about the infrared and ultraviolet fixed points. We test our methods by finding the analogous non-equilibrium current through a point contact in a $ν=1/3$ quantum Hall state, confirming the Bethe ansatz solution of the problem.
We propose a scheme to construct the most prominent Abelian and non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall states from K-component Halperin wave functions. In order to account for a one-component quantum Hall system, these SU(K) colors are distributed over all particles by an appropriate symmetrization. Numerical calculations corroborate the picture that the proposed scheme allows for a unification of both Abelian and non-Abelian trial wave functions in the study of one-component quantum Hall systems.
Previously we have demonstrated that, on a torus, the abelian quantum hall liquid is adiabatically connected to a charge density wave as the smaller dimension of the torus is varied. In this work we extend this result to the non-abelian bosonic Hall state. The outcome of these works is the realization that the paradigms of quantum number fractionalization in one dimension (polyacetylene) and two dimensions (fractional quantum Hall effect) are in fact equivalent.
The quasiparticles in Quantum Hall liquids carry fractional charge and obey fractional quantum statistics. Of particular recent interest are those with non-Abelian statistics, since their braiding properties could in principle be used for robust coding of quantum information. There is already a good theoretical understanding of quasiholes both in Abelian and non-Abelian QH states. Here we develop conformal field theory methods that allow for an equally precise description of quasielectrons, and explicitly construct two- and four-quasielectron excitations of the non-Abelian Moore-Read state.
We deduce a new set of symmetries and relations between the coefficients of the expansion of Abelian and Non-Abelian Fractional Quantum Hall (FQH) states in free (bosonic or fermionic) many-body states. Our rules allow to build an approximation of a FQH model state with an overlap increasing with growing system size (that may sometimes reach unity!) while using a fraction of the original Hilbert space. We prove these symmetries by deriving a previously unknown recursion formula for all the coefficients of the Slater expansion of the Laughlin, Read Rezayi and many other states (all Jacks multip…
We present an approach to the computation of the non-Abelian statistics of quasiholes in quantum Hall states, such as the Pfaffian state, whose wavefunctions are related to the conformal blocks of minimal model conformal field theories. We use the Coulomb gas construction of these conformal field theories to formulate a plasma analogy for the quantum Hall states. A number of properties of the Pfaffian state follow immediately, including the Berry phases which demonstrate the quasiholes' fractional charge, the abelian statistics of the two-quasihole state, and equal-time ground state correlatio…
We study the transport of cold fermionic atoms trapped in optical lattices in the presence of artificial Abelian or non-Abelian gauge potentials. Such external potentials can be created in optical lattices in which atom tunneling is laser assisted and described by commutative or non-commutative tunneling operators. We show that the Hall-like transverse conductivity of such systems is quantized by relating the transverse conductivity to topological invariants known as Chern numbers. We show that this quantization is robust in non-Abelian potentials. The different integer values of this conducti…
To detect non-abelian statistics in the $ν= 12/5$ quantum Hall state through interferometry, we apply an analysis similar to the ones proposed for the non-abelian $ν= 5/2$ quantum Hall state. The result is that the amplitude of the Aharonov-Bohm oscillation of this interference is dependent on the internal states of quasiholes, but, in contrast to the $ν= 5/2$ quantum Hall state, independent of the number of quasiholes. However, if the quasiholes are in a superposition state, it is necessary for the interferometer to have certain additional features to obtain the coefficients.
We propose several experiments to test the non-abelian nature of quasi-particles in the fractional quantum Hall state of ν=5/2. One set of experiments studies interference contribution to back-scattering of current, and is a simplified version of an experiment suggested recently. Another set looks at thermodynamic properties of a closed system. Both experiments are only weakly sensitive to disorder-induced distribution of localized quasi-particles.
Ohmic contacts are crucial elements of electron optics that have not received a clear theoretical description yet. We propose a model of an Ohmic contact as a piece of metal of the finite capacitance $C$ attached to a quantum Hall edge. It is shown that charged quantum Hall edge states may have weak coupling to neutral excitations in an Ohmic contact. Consequently, despite being a reservoir of neutral excitations, an Ohmic contact is not able to efficiently equilibrate edge states if its temperature is smaller than $\hbarΩ_c$, where $Ω_c$ is the inverse RC time of the contact. This energy scal…
In the present article we investigate the influence of the contact region on the distribution of the chemical potential in integer quantum Hall samples, as well as the longitudinal and Hall resistance as a function of the magnetic field. First we use a standard quantum Hall sample geometry and analyse the influence of the length of the leads where current enters/leaves the sample and the ratio of the contact width to the width of these leads. Furthermore we investigate potential barriers in the current injecting leads and the measurement arms in order to simulate non-ideal contacts. Second we …
We propose noise oscillation measurements in a double point contact, accessible with current technology, to seek for a signature of the non-abelian nature of the ν=5/2 quantum Hall state. Calculating the voltage and temperature dependence of the current and noise oscillations, we predict the non-abelian nature to materialize through a multiplicity of the possible outcomes: two qualitatively different frequency dependences of the nonzero interference noise. Comparison between our predictions for the Moore-Read state with experiments on ν=5/2 will serve as a much needed test for the nature of th…
Nowadays it is experimentally feasible to create artificial, and in particular, non-Abelian gauge potentials for ultracold atoms trapped in optical lattices. Motivated by this fact, we investigate the fundamental properties of an ultracold Fermi gas in a non-Abelian U(2) gauge potential characterized by a \emph{constant} Wilson loop. Under this specific condition, the energy spectrum exhibits a robust band structure with large gaps and reveals a new fractal figure. The transverse conductivity is related to topological invariants and is shown to be quantized when the Fermi energy lies inside a …
We develop a theory for the pseudorelativistic fractional quantum Hall effect in graphene, which is based on a multicomponent abelian Chern-Simons theory in the fermionic functional integral approach. Calculations are performed in the Keldysh formalism, directly giving access to real-time correlation functions at finite temperature. We obtain an exact effective action for the Chern-Simons gauge fields, which is expanded to second order in the gauge field fluctations around the mean-field solution. The one-loop fermionic polarization tensor as well as the electromagnetic response tensor in rand…
In this paper, we study a method to obtain non-Abelian FQH state through double-layer FQH states and fractional exciton condensation. In particular, we find that starting with the (330) double-layer state and then increasing the interlayer tunneling strength, we may obtain a single-layer non-Abelian FQH state S(330). We show that the S(330) state is actually the Z_4 parafermion Read-Rezayi state. We also calculate the edge excitation of the S(330) state.
Anisotropic magneto resistances and intrinsic adiabatic transport features are generated on quantum Hall samples based on an (Al,Ga)As/GaAs heterostructure with alloyed Au/Ge/Ni contacts. We succeed to probe the microscopic origin of these transport features with a cryogenic scanning force microscope (SFM) by measuring the local potential distribution within the two-dimensional electron system (2DES). These local measurements reveal the presence of an incompressible strip in front of contacts with insulating properties depending on the orientation of the contact/2DES interface line relatively …
We study a tunneling geometry defined by a single point-contact constriction that brings to close vicinity two points sitting at the same edge of a quantum Hall liquid, shortening the trip between the otherwise spatially separated points along the normal chiral edge path. This ``wormhole''-like geometry allows for entrapping bulk quasiparticles between the edge path and the tunnel junction, possibly realizing a topologically protected qubit if the quasiparticles have non-Abelian statistics. We show how either noise or simpler voltage measurements along the edge can probe the non-Abelian nature…
We investigate the structure of gapless edge modes propagating at the boundary of some fractional quantum Hall states. We show how to deduce explicit trial wavefunctions from the knowledge of the effective theory governing the edge modes. In general quantum Hall states have many edge states. Here we discuss the case of fractions having only two such modes. The case of spin-polarized and spin-singlet states at filling fraction 2/5 is considered. We give an explicit description of the decoupled charged and neutral modes. Then we discuss the situation involving negative flux acting on the composi…
We demonstrated a method to probe local electronic states and energy relaxation in quantum Hall edge states utilizing quantum point contacts. We evaluated relaxation lengths in two cases; first, with electron tunneling, and second, only with energy exchange without tunneling between edge states. The results were consistent with previous experiments and validated our method with quantum point contacts. We applied this method to measure the energy relaxation length around a hotspot in quantum Hall regimes and revealed the possible short-distance relaxation process to be the relaxation due to ene…
We investigate transport in a gate-defined graphene quantum point contact in the quantum Hall regime. Edge states confined to the interface of p and n regions in the graphene sheet are controllably brought together from opposite sides of the sample and allowed to mix in this split-gate geometry. Among the expected quantum Hall features, an unexpected additional plateau at 0.5 h/e^2 is observed. We propose that chaotic mixing of edge channels gives rise to the extra plateau.
We present model wavefunctions for quasielectron (as opposed to quasihole) excitations of the unitary $Z_k$ parafermion sequence (Laughlin/Moore-Read/Read-Rezayi) of Fractional Quantum Hall states. We uniquely define these states through two generalized clustering conditions: they vanish when either a cluster of $k+2$ electrons is put together, or when two clusters of $k+1$ electrons are formed at different positions. For Abelian Fractional Quantum Hall states ($k=1$), our construction reproduces the Jain quasielectron wavefunction, and elucidates the difference between the Jain and Laughlin q…
This paper reports on an experimental study of the contact resistance of Hall bars in the Quantum Hall Effect regime while increasing the current through the sample. These measurements involve also the longitudinal resistance and they have been always performed before the breakdown of the Quantum Hall Effect. Our investigations are restricted to the $i=2$ plateau which is used in all metrological measurements of the von Klitzing constant $R_K$. A particular care has been taken concerning the configuration of the measurement. Four configurations were used for each Hall bar by reversing the curr…
Recent schemes for experimentally probing non-abelian statistics in the quantum Hall effect are based on geometries where current-carrying quasiparticles flow along edges that encircle bulk quasiparticles, which are localized. Here we consider one such scheme, the Fabry-Perot interferometer, and analyze how its interference patterns are affected by a coupling that allows tunneling of neutral Majorana fermions between the bulk and edge. While at weak coupling this tunneling degrades the interference signal, we find that at strong coupling, the bulk quasiparticle becomes essentially absorbed by …
Hall and diagonal resistances of bilayer fractional quantum Hall systems are discussed theoretically. The bilayers have electrodes attached separately to each layer. They are assumed to be coupled weakly by interlayer tunneling, while the interlayer Coulomb interaction is negligibly small. It is shown that source-drain voltage dependence of the resistances reflects the Luttinger liquid parameter of the edge state.
By applying the idea of parafermionic clustering to composite bosons with positive as well as negative flux, a new series of trial wavefunctions to describe fractional quantum Hall states is proposed. These non-Abelian states compete at filling factors k/(3k +/- 2) with other ground states like stripes or composite fermion states. These two series contain all the states recently discovered by Pan et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 016801 (2003)] including the even denominator cases. Exact diagonalization studies on the sphere and torus point to their possible relevance for filling factors 3/7, 3/11,…
The nu=5/2 fractional quantum Hall effect state has attracted great interest recently, both as an arena to explore the physics of non-Abelian quasiparticle excitations, and as a possible architecture for topological quantum information processing. Here we use the conformal field theoretic description of the Moore-Read state to provide clear tunneling signatures of this state in an Aharonov-Bohm geometry. While not probing statistics directly, the measurements proposed here would provide a first, experimentally tractable step towards a full characterization of the 5/2 state.
Chiral integer quantum Hall (QH) edge modes are immune to backscattering and therefore are non-localized and show a vanishing longitudinal as well as non-local resistance along with quantized 2-terminal and Hall resistance even in the presence of sample disorder. However, this is not the case for contact disorder, which refers to the possibility that a contact can reflect edge modes either partially or fully. This paper shows that when all contacts are disordered in a N-terminal quantum Hall bar, then transport via chiral QH edge modes can have a significant localization correction. The Hall a…
In this paper, we report on the study of Abelian and non-Abelian statistics through Fabry-Perot interferometry of fractional quantum Hall (FQH) systems. Our detection of phase slips in quantum interference experiments demonstrates a powerful, new way of detecting braiding of anyons. We confirm the Abelian anyonic braiding statistics in the $ν= 7/3$ FQH state through detection of the predicted statistical phase angle of $2π/3$, consistent with a change of the anyonic particle number by one. The $ν= 5/2$ FQH state is theoretically believed to harbor non-Abelian anyons which are Majorana, meaning…
Non-abelian quantum Hall states are characterized by the simultaneous appearance of charge and neutral gapless edge modes, with the structure of the latter being intricately related to the existence of bulk quasi-particle excitations obeying non-abelian statistics. In general, it is hard to probe the neutral modes in charge transport measurements and a thermal transport measurement seems to be inevitable. Here we propose a setup which can get around this problem by having two point contacts in series separated by a distance set by the thermal equilibration length of the charge mode. We show th…
In search of states with non-Abelian statistics, we explore the fractional quantum Hall effect in a system of two-dimensional charge carrier holes. We propose a new method of mapping states of holes confined to a finite width quantum well in a perpendicular magnetic field to states in a spherical shell geometry. This method provides single-particle hole states used in exact diagonalization of systems with a small number of holes in the presence of Coulomb interactions. An incompressible fractional quantum Hall state emerges in a hole liquid at the half-filling of the ground state in a magnetic…
Observations of electron-hole asymmetry in transport through graphene devices at high magnetic field challenge prevalent models of the graphene quantum Hall effect. Here, we study this asymmetry both in conventional magnetotransport and in scanning gate microscopy maps measured in an encapsulated graphene constriction. We reveal that the presence of upstream modes and local doping in the vicinity of electrical contacts leads to a totally different picture of topological breakdown for electrons and holes, explaining the observed asymmetry.
We study the tunneling current between edge states of quantum Hall liquids across a single long contact region, and predict a resonance at a bias voltage set by the scale of the edge velocity. For typical devices and edge velocities associated with charged modes, this resonance occurs outside the physically accessible bias domain. However, for edge states that are expected to support neutral modes, such as the $ν={2/3}$, and $ν={5/2}$ Pfaffian and anti-Pfaffian states, the neutral velocity can be orders of magnitude smaller than the charged mode and if so the resonance would be accessible. The…
We study non-equilibrium noise in the tunnelling current between the edges of a quantum Hall liquid in the Pfaffian state, which is a strong candidate for the plateau at $ν=5/2$. To first non-vanishing order in perturbation theory (in the tunneling amplitude) we find that one can extract the value of the fractional charge of the tunnelling quasiparticles. We note however that no direct information about non-abelian statistics can be retrieved at this level. If we go to higher-order in the perturbative calculation of the non-equilibrium shot noise, we find effects due to non-Abelian statistics.…
We consider the possibility to extract spins that are generated by an electric current in a two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba-Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction (R2DEG) in the Hall geometry. To this end, we discuss boundary conditions for the spin accumulations between a spin-orbit coupled region and contact without spin-orbit coupling, i.e. a normal two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). We demonstrate that in contrast to contacts that extend along the whole sample, a spin accumulation can diffuse into the normal region through finite contacts and detected by e.g. ferromagnets. For an im…
A theory of transport in the quantum Hall regime is developed for separately contacted double-layer electron systems. Inter-layer tunneling provides a channel for equilibration of the distribution functions in the two layers at the edge states. Resistances and transresistances for various configurations of the electrodes are calculated as functions of the inter-layer tunneling amplitude. Induced current in one of the layer by a current in the other is calculated also. It is shown that reflection at the leads causes change in the results for some electrode configurations. The results obtained i…
Using an innovative combination of a quasi-Corbino sample geometry and the cross-gate technique, we have developed a method that enables us to separately contact single edge channels in the quantum Hall regime and investigate equilibration among them. Performing 4-point resistance measurements, we directly obtain information on the energetic and geometric structure of the edge region and the equilibration-length for current transport across the Landau- as well as the spin-gap. Based on an almost free choice in the number of participating edge channels and their interaction-length a systematic …
The quantum Hall phase diagram of the half-filled bilayer system in the second Landau level is studied as a function of tunneling and layer separation using exact diagonalization. We make the striking prediction that bilayer structures would manifest two distinct branches of incompressible fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) corresponding to the Abelian 331 state (at moderate to low tunneling and large layer separation) and the non-Abelian Pfaffian state (at large tunneling and small layer separation). The observation of these two FQHE branches and the quantum phase transition between them w…
The integer and fractional quantum Hall states are known to break down at high dc bias, exhibiting deviation from the ideal incompressible behavior. We measure breakdown of the ν= 2, 3, 4, 5 integer and the ν= 4/3 and 5/3 fractional states in a quantum point contact (QPC) of lithographic width ~600 nm. Dependence of the critical current on magnetic field, QPC gate voltage, and QPC width are presented. Of particular interest, the critical current of the 4/3 and 5/3 fractional states shows the opposite dependence on QPC width compared to the integer states. This previously unobserved result is n…
It is well known that quantum spin Hall (QSH) edge modes being helical are immune to backscattering due to non-magnetic disorder within the sample. Thus, quantum spin Hall edge modes are non-localized and show a vanishing Hall resistance along with quantized 2-terminal, longitudinal and non-local resistances even in presence of sample disorder. However, this is not the case for contact disorder. This paper shows that when all contacts are disordered in an N-terminal quantum spin Hall sample, then transport via these helical QSH edge modes can have a significant localization correction. All the…
The Moore-Read Pfaffian $ν=5/2$ quantum Hall state is a p-wave super-conductor of composite fermions. Small deviations from $ν=5/2$ result in the formation of an array of vortices within this super-conductor, each supporting a Majorana zero mode near its core. Here we consider how tunneling between these cores is reflected in the electronic response to an electric field of non-zero wave vector $\bf q$ and frequency $ω$. We find a mechanism for dissipative transport at frequencies below the $ν=5/2$ gap, and calculate the ${\bf q},ω$ dependence of the dissipative conductivity. The contributions …
The tunneling current and shot noise of the current between two Fractional Quantum Hall (FQH) edges in the $ ν=12/5 $ FQH state in electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer are studied. It is shown that the tunneling current and shot noise can be used to probe the existence of $k=3 $ parafermion statistics in the $ ν=12/5 $ FQH state. More specifically, the dependence of the current on the Aharonov-Bohm flux in the Read-Rezayi state is asymmetric under the change of the sign of the applied voltage. This property is absent in the Abelian Laughlin states. Moreover the Fano factor can exceed 12.7 el…
We present a new class of non-abelian spin-singlet quantum Hall states, generalizing Halperin's abelian spin-singlet states and the Read-Rezayi non-abelian quantum Hall states for spin-polarized electrons. We label the states by (k,M) with M odd (even) for fermionic (bosonic) states, and find a filling fraction $ν=2k/(2kM+3)$. The states with M=0 are bosonic spin-singlet states characterized by an SU(3)_k symmetry. We explain how an effective Landau-Ginzburg theory for the SU(3)_2 state can be constructed. In general, the quasi-particles over these new quantum Hall states carry spin, fractiona…
Fendley, Ludwig and Saleur [Phys. Rev. B52 (1995) 8934] have obtained an expression for the non-equilibrium current through a constriction in the quantum Hall bar based on the Bethe ansatz technique and the Bolzmann equation. In this Comment we draw attention to a serious flaw in their derivation. We argue that their result is correct in the linear response limit but should be taken with a care out of equilibrium for finite bias. The reason is in the use of the equilibrium scattering matrix in the place of the transition probability amplitude out of equilibrium, the substitution which was not …
We study the transport mechanisms taking place in a quantum spin Hall bar with an embedded quantum dot, where electrons localize and experience Coulomb interaction U as well as spin-flip processes λ. We solve the problem with non-equilibrium Green functions. We focus on the linear response regime and treat the many-body interactions with quantum Monte Carlo. The effects of U and λ are competitive and the induced transport takes place through different channels. The two mechanisms can be switched by changing the occupation of the dot with a gate voltage.
We show in this paper that thermopower is enhanced in non-Abelian quantum Hall liquids under appropriate conditions. This is because thermopower measures entropy per electron in the clean limit, while the degeneracy and entropy associated with non-Abelian quasiparticles enhance entropy when they are present. Thus thermopower can potentially probe non-Abelian nature of the quasiparticles, and measure their quantum dimension.
This review presents experimental results on the inter-edge-state transport in the quantum Hall effect, mostly obtained in the regime of high imbalance. The application of a special geometry makes it possible to perform I-V spectroscopy between individual edge channels in both the integer and the fractional regime. This makes it possible to study in detail a number of physical effects such as the creation of topological defects in the integer quantum Hall effect and neutral collective modes excitation in fractional regime. The while many of the experimental findings are well explained within e…
Partition functions of edge excitations are obtained for non-Abelian Hall states in the second Landau level, such as the anti-Read-Rezayi state, the Bonderson-Slingerland hierarchy and the Wen non-Abelian fluid, as well as for the non-Abelian spin-singlet state. The derivation is straightforward and unique starting from the non-Abelian conformal field theory data and solving the modular invariance conditions. The partition functions provide a complete account of the excitation spectrum and are used to describe experiments of Coulomb blockade and thermopower.
We discuss the role of direct Coulomb interaction on the bulk insulator of the integer quantized Hall effect that bridges the topological insulators and the conductance quantization. We investigate the magneto-transport properties of a two-dimensional electron system in the bulk, numerically, utilizing the self-consistent Thomas-Fermi-Poisson screening theory. Topologically distorted Hall bars with and without potential fluctuations are considered that comprises two identical inner contacts. Although these contacts change the topology, we show that quantized Hall effect survives due to redistr…
The (exclusion) statistics of parafermions is used to study degeneracies of quasiholes over the paired (or in general clustered) quantum Hall states. Focus is on the Z_k and su(3)_k/u(1)^2 parafermions, which are used in the description of spin-polarized and spin-singled clustered quantum Hall states.
We consider a model for an edge state of electronic systems in the quantum Hall regime with filling $ν=1$ and in the quantum spin Hall regime. In both cases the system is in contact with two reservoirs by tunneling at point contacts. Both systems are locally driven by applying an ac voltage in one of the contacts. By weakly coupling them to a third reservoir, the transport of the generated heat is studied in two different ways: i) when the third reservoir acts as a thermometer the local temperature is sensed, and ii) when the third reservoir acts as a voltage probe the time-dependent local vol…
Two fundamental aspects of so-called non-abelian quantum Hall states (the q-pfaffian states and more general) are a (generalized) pairing of the participating electrons and the non-abelian statistics of the quasi-hole excitations. In this paper, we show that these two aspects are linked by a duality relation, which can be made manifest by considering the K-matrices that describe the exclusion statistics of the fundamental excitations in these systems.
In this work we implement the self-consistent Thomas-Fermi-Poisson approach to a homogeneous two dimensional electron system (2DES). We compute the electrostatic potential produced inside a semiconductor structure by a quantum-point-contact (QPC) placed at the surface of the semiconductor and biased with appropriate voltages. The model is based on a semi-analytical solution of the Laplace equation. Starting from the calculated confining potential, the self-consistent (screened) potential and the electron densities are calculated for finite temperature and magnetic field. We observe that there …
We show that non-abelian quantum Hall states can be identified by experimental measurements of the temperature-dependence of either the electrochemical potential or the orbital magnetization. The predicted signals of non-abelian statistics are within experimental resolution, and can be clearly distinguished from other contributions under realistic circumstances. The proposed measurement technique also has the potential to resolve spin-ordering transitions in low density electronic systems in the Wigner crystal and strongly-interacting Luttinger liquid regimes.
While the internal structure of Abelian topological order is well understood, how to characterize the non-Abelian topological order is an outstanding issue. We propose a distinctive scheme based on the many-body Chern number matrix to characterize non-Abelian multicomponent fractional quantum Hall states. As a concrete example, we study the many-body ground state of two-component bosons at the filling faction $ν=4/3$ in topological flat band models. Utilizing density-matrix renormalization group and exact diagonalization calculations, we demonstrate the emergence of non-Abelian spin-singlet fr…
We propose an effective Lagrangian for the low energy theory of the Pfaffian states of the fractional quantum Hall effect in the bulk in terms of non-Abelian Chern-Simons (CS) actions. Our approach exploits the connection between the topological Chern-Simons theory and chiral conformal field theories. This construction can be used to describe a large class of non-Abelian FQH states.
A large class of fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states can be classified according to their pattern of zeros, which describes the way ideal ground state wave functions go to zero as various clusters of electrons are brought together. In this paper we generalize this approach to classify multilayer FQH states. Such a classification leads to the construction of a class of non-Abelian multilayer FQH states that are closely related to $\hat{g}_k$ parafermion conformal field theories, where $\hat{g}_k$ is an affine simple Lie algebra. We discuss the possibility of some of the simplest of these non-A…
We study the tunable quantum Hall effects in a non-Abelian honeycomb optical lattice which is a many-Dirac-points system. We find that the quantum Hall effects present different features as change as relative strengths of several perturbations. Namely, a gauge-field-dressed next-nearest-neighbor hopping can induce the quantum spin Hall effect and a Zeeman field can induce a so-called quantum anomalous valley Hall effect which includes two copies of quantum Hall states with opposite Chern numbers and counter-propagating edge states. Our study extends the borders of the field of quantum Hall eff…
