In this paper, we go on Rui-Xu's work on cyclotomic Birman-Wenzl algebras $\W_{r, n}$ in \cite{RX}. In particular, we use the representation theory of cellular algebras in \cite{GL} to classify the irreducible $\W_{r, n}$-modules for all positive integers $r$ and $n$. By constructing cell filtrations for all cell modules of $\W_{r, n}$, we compute the discriminants associated to all cell modules for $\W_{r, n} $. Via such discriminats together with induction and restriction functors given in section~5, we determine explicitly when $\W_{r, n}$ is semisimple over a field. This generalizes our previous result on Birman-Wenzl algebras in \cite{RS1}.
We relate the structure of cyclotomic and degenerate cyclotomic BMW algebras, for arbitrary parameter values, to that for admissible parameter values. In particular, we show that these algebras are cellular. We characterize those parameter sets for affine BMW algebras over an algebraically closed field that permit the algebras to have non--trivial cyclotomic quotients.
We study admissibility conditions for the parameters of degenerate cyclotomic BMW algebras. We show that the u-admissibility condition of Ariki, Mathas and Rui is equivalent to a simple module theoretic condition.
In this paper, we prove that the cyclotomic BMW algebras B2p+1,n are cellular in the sense of [16]. We also classify the irreducible B2p+1,nmodules over a field.
The cyclotomic Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (or BMW) algebras B_n^k, introduced by R. Haring-Oldenburg, are extensions of the cyclotomic Hecke algebras of Ariki-Koike, in the same way as the BMW algebras are extensions of the Hecke algebras of type A. In this paper we focus on the case n=2, producing a basis of B_2^k and constructing its left regular representation.
The cyclotomic Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (BMW) algebras B_n^k, introduced by R. Häring-Oldenburg, are a generalisation of the BMW algebras associated with the cyclotomic Hecke algebras of type G(k,1,n) (aka Ariki-Koike algebras) and type B knot theory. In this paper, we prove the algebra is free and of rank k^n (2n-1)!! over ground rings with parameters satisfying so-called "admissibility conditions". These conditions are necessary in order for these results to hold and originally arise from the representation theory of B_2^k, which is analysed by the authors in a previous paper. Furthermore, we o…
The cyclotomic Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebras are quotients of the affine BMW algebras in which the affine generator satisfies a polynomial relation. We show that the cyclotomic BMW algebras are free modules over any (admissible, integral) ground ring, and that they are isomorphic to cyclotomic versions of the Kauffman tangle algebras
----- Please see the pdf file for the actual abstract and important remarks, which could not be put here due to the arXiv length restrictions. ----- This thesis presents a study of the cyclotomic BMW (Birman-Murakami-Wenzl) algebras, introduced by Haring-Oldenburg as a generalization of the BMW algebras associated with the cyclotomic Hecke algebras of type G(k,1,n) (also known as Ariki-Koike algebras) and type B knot theory involving affine/cylindrical tangles. They are shown to be free of rank k^n (2n-1)!! and to have a topological realization as a certain cylindrical analogue of the Kauffman…
The affine and degenerate affine Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (BMW) algebras arise naturally in the context of Schur-Weyl duality for orthogonal and symplectic quantum groups and Lie algebras, respectively. Cyclotomic BMW algebras, affine and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, and their degenerate versions are quotients. In this paper we explain how the affine and degenerate affine BMW algebras are tantalizers (tensor power centralizer algebras) by defining actions of the affine braid group and the degenerate affine braid algebra on tensor space and showing that, in important cases, these actions induce acti…
The cyclotomic Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebras are quotients of the affine BMW algebras in which the affine generator satisfies a polynomial relation. We study admissibility conditions on the ground ring for these algebras, and show that the algebras defined over an admissible integral ground ring $S$ are free $S$--modules and isomorphic to cyclotomic Kauffman tangle algebras. We also determine the representation theory in the generic semisimple case, obtain a recursive formula for the weights of the Markov trace, and give a sufficient condition for semisimplicity.
In this paper, we classify the finite dimensional irreducible modules for affine BMW algebra over an algebraically closed field with arbitrary characteristic.
We establish a framework for cellularity of algebras related to the Jones basic construction. Our framework allows a uniform proof of cellularity of Brauer algebras, ordinary and cyclotomic BMW algebras, walled Brauer algebras, partition algebras, and others. Our cellular bases are labeled by paths on certain branching diagrams rather than by tangles. Moreover, for the class of algebras that we study, we show that the cellular structures are compatible with restriction and induction of modules. Applied to cyclotomic BMW algebras, our method allows a new a shorter proof of the finite spanning r…
The Temperley-Lieb algebra may be thought of as a quotient of the Hecke algebra of type A, acting on tensor space as the commutant of the usual action of quantum sl(2) on the n-th tensor power of the 2-dimensional irreducible module. We define and study a quotient of the Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra, which plays an analogous role for the 3-dimensional representation of quantum sl(2). In the course of the discussion we prove some general results about the radical of a cellular algebra, which may be of independent interest.
We prove an integral version of the Schur--Weyl duality between the specialized Birman--Murakami--Wenzl algebra $B_n(-q^{2m+1},q)$ and the quantum algebra associated to the symplectic Lie algebra sp_{2m}. In particular, we deduce that this Schur--Weyl duality holds over arbitrary (commutative) ground rings, which answers a question of Lehrer and Zhang [Strongly multiplicity free modules for Lie algebras and quantum groups, J. Algebra (1) 306 (2006), 138--174] in the symplectic case. As a byproduct, we show that, as $Z[q,q^{-1}]$-algebra, the quantized coordinate algebra defined by Kashiwara is…
Given two nonzero complex parameters $l$ and $m$, we construct by the mean of knot theory a matrix representation of size $\chl$ of the BMW algebra of type $A_{n-1}$ with parameters $l$ and $m$ over the field $\Q(l,r)$, where $m=\unsurr-r$. As a representation of the braid group on $n$ strands, it is equivalent to the Lawrence-Krammer representation that was introduced by Lawrence and Krammer to show the linearity of the braid groups. We prove that the Lawrence-Krammer representation is generically irreducible, but that for some values of the parameters $l$ and $r$, it becomes reducible. In pa…
Let $n\in\mathds{N}$ and $B_n(r,q)$ be the generic Birman-Murakami-Wenzl algebra with respect to indeterminants $r$ and $q$. It is known that $B_n(r,q)$ has two distinct linear representations generated by two central elements of $B_n(r,q)$ called the symmetrizer and antisymmetrizer of $B_n(r,q)$. These generate for $n\geq 3$ the only one dimensional two sided ideals of $B_n(r,q)$ and generalize the corresponding notion for Hecke algebras of type $A$. The main result in this paper explicitly determines the coefficients of these elements with respect to the graphical basis of $B_n(r,q)$.
We prove that the 2-variable BMW algebra embeds into an algebra constructed from the HOMFLY-PT polynomial. We also prove that the so(2N)-BMW algebra embeds in the q-Schur algebra of type A. We use these results to construct categorifications of the so(2N)-BMW algebra.
We classify the Markov traces factoring through the Birman-Wenzl-Murakami (BMW) algebras. For this purpose, we define a common `cover' for the two variations of the BMW-algebra originating from the quantum orthogonal/symplectic duality, which are responsible for the so-called `Dubrovnik' variation of the Kauffman polynomial. For generic values of the defining parameters of the BMW algebra, this cover is isomorphic to the BMW algebra itself, and this fact provides a shorter defining relation for it, in the generic case. For a certain 1-dimensional family of special values however, it is a non-t…
The ordinary (or classical) Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebras were initially conceived as an algebraic framework for the Kauffman link invariant. They also appear as centralizer algebras for representations of quantum universal enveloping algebras of orthogonal or symplectic types. It was shown by Morton and Wassermann that the BMW algebras are isomorphic to algebras of tangles in (disc $\times$ interval), modulo Kauffman skein relations. This isomorphism allows one to see very clearly certain properties of the BMW algebras -- for example existence of Markov traces and conditional expectations an…
We give a presentation of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras by generators and defining relations. As an application, we give an algorithm for computing decomposition numbers of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras.
We define the induction and restriction functors for cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, and study some properties of them. As an application, we categorify a higher level Fock space by using the module categories of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras.
In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a cyclotomic Brauer algebra being semisimple. This generalizes previous result for a Brauer algebra.
Motivated by Brundan-Kleshchev's work on higher Schur-Weyl duality, we establish mixed Schur-Weyl duality between general linear Lie algebras and cyclotomic walled Brauer algebras in an arbitrary level. Using weakly cellular bases of cyclotomic walled Brauer algebras, we classify highest weight vectors of certain mixed tensor modules of general linear Lie algebras. This leads to an efficient way to compute decomposition matrices of cyclotomic walled Brauer algebras arising from mixed Schur-Weyl duality, which generalizes early results on level two walled Brauer algebras.
A notion of quantum matrix (QM-) algebra generalizes and unifies two famous families of algebras from the theory of quantum groups: the RTT-algebras and the reflection equation (RE-) algebras. These algebras being generated by the components of a `quantum' matrix $M$ possess certain properties which resemble structure theorems of the ordinary matrix theory. It turns out that such structure results are naturally derived in a more general framework of the QM-algebras. In this work we consider a family of Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (BMW) type QM-algebras. These algebras are defined with the use of R-m…
We construct an explicit isomorphism between blocks of cyclotomic Hecke algebras and (sign-modified) Khovanov-Lauda algebras in type A. These isomorphisms connect the categorification conjecture of Khovanov and Lauda to Ariki's categorification theorem. The Khovanov-Lauda algebras are naturally graded, which allows us to exhibit a non-trivial Z-grading on blocks of cyclotomic Hecke algebras, including symmetric groups in positive characteristic.
We prove a super Frobenius formula for the characters of the cyclotomic Hecke algebras by applying the super Schur-Weyl reciprocity between the quantum superalgebras and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, which is a super analogue of the Frobenius formula in (T. Shoji, J. Algebra 226: 2000, 818--856) and a cyclotomic analogue of the super Frobeinus formula in (H. Mitsuhashi, Linear Multilinear Algebra 58: 2010, 941--955).
An inductive approach to the representation theory of cyclotomic Hecke algebras, inspired by Okounkov and Vershik, is developed. We study the common spectrum of the Jucys-Murphy elements using representations of the simplest affine Hecke algebra. Representations are constructed with the help of a new associative algebra whose underlying vector space is the tensor product of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra with the free associative algebra generated by standard m-tableaux.
We construct a new inductive basis of the Birman-Murakami-Wenzl algebra. Using it, we provide a new proof of the existence of the Markov trace on the BMW algebras affording the two-variable Kauffman polynomial. We prove also that all the transverse Markov traces on the BMW algebras are determined by the self-linking number, the HOMFLY-PT polynomial and the two-variable Kauffman polynomial.
Let $S$ be the cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebra associated to the Ariki-Koike algebra $H_{n,r}$ of rank $n$, introduced by Dipper-James-Mathas. For each $p = (r_1, ..., r_g)$ such that $r_1 + ... + r_g = r$, we define a subalgebra $S^p$ of $S$ and its quotient algebra $\bar S^p$. It is shown that $S^p$ is a standardly based algebra and $\bar S^p$ is a cellular algebra. By making use of these algebras, we show that certain decomposition numbers for $S$ can be expressed as a product of decomposition numbers for cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebras associated to smaller Ariki_koike algebras $H_{n_k,r_k}$.
Nazarov \cite{Nazarov:brauer} introduced an infinite dimensional algebra, which he called the \textit{affine Wenzl algebra}, in his study of the Brauer algebras. In this paper we study certain ``cyclotomic quotients'' of these algebras. We construct the irreducible representations of these algebras in the generic case and use this to show that these algebras are free of rank $r^n(2n-1)!!$ (when $Ω$ is $\bu$--admissible). We next show that these algebras are cellular and give a labelling for the simple modules of the cyclotomic Nazarov--Wenzl algebras over an arbitrary field. In particular, thi…
A complete system of primitive pairwise orthogonal idempotents for cyclotomic Hecke algebras is constructed by consecutive evaluations of a rational function in several variables on quantum contents of multi-tableaux. This function is a product of two terms, one of which depends only on the shape of the multi-tableau and is proportional to the inverse of the corresponding Schur element.
Let $\Sc(\vL)$ be the cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebra associated to the Ariki-Koike algebra $\He_{n,r}$, introduced by Dipper-James-Mathas. In this paper, we consider $v$-decomposition numbers of $\Sc(\vL)$, namely decomposition numbers with respect to the Jantzen filtrations of Weyl modules. We prove, as a $v$-analogue of the result obtained by Shoji-Wada, a product formula for $v$-decomposition numbers of $\Sc(\vL)$, which asserts that certain $v$-decomposition numbers are expressed as a product of $v$-decomposition numbers for various cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebras associated to Ariki-koike alg…
We give a proof of a conjecture that Kleshchev multipartitions are those partitions which parametrize non-zero simple modules obtained as factor modules of Specht modules by their own radicals.
These are lecture notes prepared for London Mathematical Society Symposium "Quantum Groups" held in Durham 19-29 July 1999. We give a survey on cyclotomic Hecke algebras. These algebras have been studied by Dipper, James, Malle, Mathas and the author. In lecture one, we start with definitions. We then go on to Specht module theory of cyclotomic Hecke algebras constructed by Dipper, James and Mathas. In lecture two, we explain Ginzburg and Lusztig's theory on affine Hecke algebras and its application to cyclotomic Hecke algebras due to the author. As Kazhdan-Lusztig bases of Hecke algebras desc…
In our earlier work, we have proved a product formula for certain decomposition numbers of the cyclotomic v-Schur algebra associated to the Ariki-Koike algebra. It is conjectured by Yvonne that the decomposition numbers of this algebra can be described in terms of the canonical basis of the higher level Fock space studied by Uglov. In this paper we prove a product formula related to the canonical basis of the Fock space. In view of Yvonne's conjecture, this formula is regarded as a counter-part for the Fock space of our previous formula.
We study on Weyl modules of cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebras. In particular, we give the character formula of the Weyl modules by using the Kostka numbers and some numbers which are computed by a generalization of Littlewood-Richardson rule. We also study corresponding symmetric functions. Finally, we give some simple applications to modular representations of cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebras.
We construct a new basis for a slim cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebra $\cysSr$ via symmetric polynomials in Jucys--Murphy operators of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra $\cysHr$. We show that this basis, labelled by matrices, is not the double coset basis when $\cysHr$ is the Hecke algebra of a Coxeter group, but coincides with the double coset basis for the corresponding group algebra, the Hecke algebra at $q=1$. As further applications, we then discuss the cyclotomic Schur--Weyl duality at the integral level. This also includes a category equivalence and a classification of simple objects.
We give a presentation of the Kauffman (BMW) skein algebra of the torus, which is the "type BCD" analogue of the Homflypt skein algebra of torus which was computed by the first and third authors. In the appendix we show this presentation is compatible with the Frohman-Gelca description of the Kauffman bracket (Temperley-Lieb) skein algebra of the torus [FG00].
In this article, we define and study the affine and cyclotomic Yokonuma-Hecke algebras. These algebras generalise at the same time the Ariki-Koike and affine Hecke algebras and the Yokonuma-Hecke algebras. We study the representation theory of these algebras and construct several bases for them. We then show how we can define Markov traces on them, which we in turn use to construct invariants for framed and classical knots in the solid torus. Finally, we study the Markov trace with zero parameters on the cyclotomic Yokonuma-Hecke algebras and determine the Schur elements with respect to that t…
Multiplicative analogues of the shuffle elements of the braid group rings are introduced; in local representations they give rise to certain graded associative algebras (b-shuffle algebras). For the Hecke and BMW algebras, the (anti)-symmetrizers have simple expressions in terms of the multiplicative shuffles. The (anti)-symmetrizers can be expressed in terms of the highest multiplicative 1-shuffles (for the Hecke and BMW algebras) and in terms of the highest additive 1-shuffles (for the Hecke algebras). The spectra and multiplicities of eigenvalues of the operators of the multiplication by th…
An approach, based on Jucys--Murphy elements, to the representation theory of cyclotomic Hecke algebras is developed. The maximality (in the cyclotomic Hecke algebra) of the set of the Jucys--Murphy elements is established. A basis of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra is suggested; this basis is used to establish the flatness of the deformation without use of the representation theory.
We prove a ``positive'' Jantzen sum formula for the Specht modules of the cyclotomic Hecke algebras of type~$A$. That is, in the Grothendieck group, we show that the sum of the pieces of the Jantzen filtration is equal to an explicit non-negative linear combination of modules $E^ν_{f,e}$, which are modular reductions of simple modules for closely connected Hecke algebras in characteristic zero. The coefficient of $E^ν_{f,e}$ in the sum formula is determined by the graded decomposition numbers in characteristic zero, which are known, and the characteristic of the field. As a consequence we see …
We show some properties on a special case of level 1 cyclotomic KLR algebras of type $A_{n}^{(1)}$; the number of primitive idempotents, systematic change of structures, the dimension.
We introduce a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$ and an associative algebra $\mathcal{U}_{q,\mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$ associated with the Cartan data of $\mathfrak{gl}_m$ which is separated into $r$ parts with respect to $\mathbf{m}=(m_1, \dots, m_r)$ such that $m_1+ \dots + m_r =m$. We show that the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Q}} (\mathbf{m})$ is a filtered deformation of the current Lie algebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_m$, and we can regard the algebra $\mathcal{U}_{q, \mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m})$ as a "$q$-analogue" of $U(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathbf{Q}}(\mathbf{m}))$. Then, we reali…
In this work, we extend some results from the Kauffman bracket and HOMFLYPT skein theories to the Kauffman (Dubrovnik) skein theory. A definition is given for ``power sum" type elements $\widetilde{P}_k$ in the Dubrovnik skein algebra of the annulus $\mathcal{D}(A)$. These elements generalize the Chebyshev polynomials often used when studying Kauffman bracket skein algebras. Threadings of the $\widetilde{P}_k$ are used as generators in a presentation of the Dubrovnik skein algebra of the torus $\mathcal{D}(T^2)$, where they are shown to satisfy simple relations. This description of $\mathcal{D…
Recently a new class of quantum integrable models, the cyclotomic Gaudin models, were described in arXiv:1409.6937, arXiv:1410.7664. Motivated by these, we identify a class of affine hyperplane arrangements that we call cyclotomic discriminantal arrangements. We establish correspondences between the flag and Aomoto complexes of such arrangements and chain complexes for nilpotent subalgebras of Kac-Moody type Lie algebras with diagram automorphisms. As a byproduct, we show that the Bethe vectors of cyclotomic Gaudin models associated to diagram automorphisms are nonzero.
This paper investigates the tilting modules of the cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, the Young modules of the Ariki-Koike algebras, and the interconnections between them. The main tools used to understand the tilting modules are contragredient duality, and the Specht filtrations and dual Specht filtrations of certain permutation modules. Surprisingly, Weyl filtrations -- which are in general more powerful than Specht filtrations -- play only a secondary role.
Gordon James proved that the socle of a Weyl module of a classical Schur algebra is a sum of simple modules labelled by $p$-restricted partitions. We prove an analogue of this result in the very general setting of "Schur pairs". As an application we show that the socle of a Weyl module of a cyclotomic $q$-Schur algebra is a sum of simple modules labelled by Kleshchev multipartitions and we use this result to prove a conjecture of Fayers that leads to an efficient LLT algorithm for the higher level cyclotomic Hecke algebras of type $A$. Finally, we prove a cyclotomic analogue of the Carter-Lusz…
