A two-parameter characteristic of functions meromorphic on annuli is introduced and an extension of the Nevanlinna value distribution theory for such functions is proposed.
In this note it is shown that two key results on transcendental singularities for meromorphic functions of finite lower order have refinements which hold under the weaker hypothesis that the logarithmic derivative has finite lower order.
If E is a nonempty closed subset of the locally finite Hausdorff (2n-2)-measure on an n-dimensional complex manifold M and all points of E are nonremovable for a meromorphic mapping of M \ E into a compact Kähler manifold, then E is a pure (n-1)-dimensional complex analytic subset of M.
We present several aspects of the "topology of meromorphic functions", which we conceive as a general theory which includes the topology of holomorphic functions, the topology of pencils on quasi-projective spaces and the topology of polynomial functions.
We prove that a meromorphic map defined on the complement of a compact subset of a three-dimensional Stein manifold M and with values in a compact complex three-fold X extends to the complement of a finite set of points. If X is simply connected, then the map extends to all of M.
We show that if a meromorphic function has a direct singularity over infinity, then the escaping set has an unbounded component and the intersection of the escaping set with the Julia set contains continua. This intersection has an unbounded component if and only if the function has no Baker wandering domains. We also give estimates of the Hausdorff dimension and the upper box dimension of the Julia set of a meromorphic function with a logarithmic singularity over infinity. The above theorems are deduced from more general results concerning functions which have "direct or logarithmic tracts", …
We show that for each $d\in (0,2]$ there exists a meromorphic function $f$ such that the inverse function of $f$ has three singularities and the Julia set of $f$ has Hausdorff dimension $d$.
In the main part of the paper, on the basis of contour integration of complex meromorphic functions whose singularities lie onto an integration contour, in the first step, a concept of improper integrals absolute existence of meromorphic functions, as more general one with respect to the concept of improper integrals convergence (existence), is introduced into analysis. In the second step, in the case when a modulus of complex parameter tends to infinity, an interval of improper integrals convergence of parametric meromorphic functions is defined. In accordance with this, it is shown that the …
Let $D_j\subset\mathbb C^{n_j}$ be a pseudoconvex domain and let $A_j\subset D_j$ be a locally pluriregular set, $j=1,...,N$. Put $$ X:=\bigcup_{j=1}^N A_1\times...\times A_{j-1}\times D_j\times A_{j+1}\times...\times A_N. $$ Let $M\subset X$ be relatively closed. For any $j\in\{1,...,N\}$ let $Σ_j$ be the set of all $(z',z'')\in(A_1\times...\times A_{j-1})\times(A_{j+1}\times...\times A_N)$ such that the fiber $M_{(z',\cdot,z'')}:=\{z_j\in\mathbb C^{n_j}: (z',z_j,z'')\in M\}$ is not pluripolar. Assume that $Σ_1,...,Σ_N$ are pluripolar. Put ${multline*} X':=\bigcup_{j=1}^N\{(z',z_j,z'')\in(A_1…
A survey of general results on the singularities of inverses to meromorphic functions is given, with applications to holomorphic dynamics. This is a lecture delivered at the workshop "The role of complex analysis in complex dynamics" in Edinburgh on May 22 2013, with corrected mistakes and updated references.
We study the class $\mathcal{M}$ of functions meromorphic outside a countable closed set of essential singularities. We show that if a function in $\mathcal{M}$, with at least one essential singularity, permutes with a non-constant rational map $g$, then $g$ is a Möbius map that is not conjugate to an irrational rotation. For a given function $ f \in\mathcal{M}$ which is not a Möbius map, we show that the set of functions in $\mathcal{M}$ that permute with $ f $ is countably infinite. Finally, we show that there exist transcendental meromorphic functions $f: \mathbb{C} \to \mathbb{C}$ such tha…
In this article, we consider metrically thin singularities E of the solutions of the tangential Cauchy-Riemann operators on a C^{2,a}-smooth embedded Cauchy-Riemann generic manifold M (CR functions on M - E) and more generally, we consider holomorphic functions defined in wedgelike domains attached to M - E. Our main result establishes the wedge- and the L^1-removability of E under the hypothesis that the (\dim M-2)-dimensional Hausdorff volume of E is zero and that M and M\backslash E are globally minimal. As an application, we deduce that there exists a wedgelike domain attached to an everyw…
We construct a (non Kähler) compact complex 3-dimensional manifold $X$ having two following properties: 1) for any domain $D$ in $C^2$ every meromorphic map $f$ from this domain into $X$ extends to a meromorphic map from the envelope of meromorphy $\hat D$ of $D$ into $X$; 2) but there exist a meromorphic map $F$ from a punctured ball $B_*$ in $C^3$ into $X$ which doens't extend meromorphically to the origin. In other words, one can allways remove the singularities of complex codimesion two for the meromorphic maps into this $X$, but only up to some subset of complex codimension three. A descr…
It is known that local zeta functions associated with real analytic functions can be analytically continued as meromorphic functions to the whole complex plane. In this paper, the case of specific (non-real analytic) smooth functions is precisely investigated. Indeed, asymptotic limits of the respective local zeta functions at some singularities in one direction are explicitly computed. Surprisingly, it follows from these behaviors that these local zeta functions have singularities different from poles.
In this paper, we study the large scaled geometric structure of Julia sets of entire and meromorphic functions. Roughly speaking, the structure gives us some asymptotic information about the Julia set near the essential singularity. We will show that part of this structure are determined by the transcendental directions coming from function theoretic point of view.
This paper studies the singularities of Cullen-regular functions of one quaternionic variable. The quaternionic Laurent series prove to be Cullen-regular. The singularities of Cullen-regular functions are thus classified as removable, essential or poles. The quaternionic analogues of meromorphic complex functions, called semiregular functions, turn out to be quotients of Cullen-regular functions with respect to an appropriate division operation. This allows a detailed study of the poles and their distribution.
We study transcendental singularities of a Schröder map arising from a rational function $f$, using results from complex dynamics and Nevanlinna theory. These maps are transcendental meromorphic functions of finite order in the complex plane. We show that their transcendental singularities lie over the set where $f$ is not semihyperbolic (unhyperbolic). In addition, if they are direct, then they lie over only attracting periodic points of $f$, and moreover, if $f$ is a polynomial, then both direct and indirect singularities lie over attracting, parabolic and Cremer periodic points of $f$. We a…
It is known that local zeta functions associated with real analytic functions can be analytically continued as meromorphic functions to the whole complex plane. But, in the case of general ($C^{\infty}$) smooth functions, the meromorphic extension problem is not obvious. Indeed, it has been recently shown that there exist specific smooth functions whose local zeta functions have singularities different from poles. In order to understand the situation of the meromorphic extension in the smooth case, we investigate a simple but essentially important case, in which the respective function is expr…
In this paper we have mainly focused on the uniqueness of two meromorphic functions under the realm of two shared sets problem with certain restrictions which in turn improve the results of { P. Sahoo and H. Karmakar, Uniqueness theorems related to weighted sharing of two sets, Acta Univ. Sapientiae, Mathematica, 10(2) (2018), 329-339} and {P. Sahoo and A. Sarkar, On the uniqueness of meromorphic functions sharing two sets, Bol. Soc. Mat. Mex., (2019), 1-7}. In particular, pointing out some gaps in the statements of the results in { P. Sahoo and H. Karmakar, Uniqueness theorems related to weig…
Let $Φ$ be a continuous $n\times n$ matrix-valued function on the unit circle $\T$ such that the $(k-1)$th singular value of the Hankel operator with symbol $Φ$ is greater than the $k$th singular value. In this case, it is well-known that $Φ$ has a unique superoptimal meromorphic approximant $Q$ in $H^{\infty}_{(k)}$; that is, $Q$ has at most $k$ poles in the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ (i.e. the McMillan degree of $Q$ in $\mathbb{D}$ is at most $k$) and $Q$ minimizes the essential suprema of singular values $s_{j}((Φ-Q)(ζ))$, $j\geq0$, with respect to the lexicographic ordering. For each $j\geq 0$…
An explicit formula for the generalized hyperbolic metric on the thrice--punctured sphere $¶\backslash \{z_1, z_2, z_3\}$ with singularities of order $α_j \le 1$ at $z_j$ is obtained in all possible cases $α_1+α_2+α_3 >2$. The existence and uniqueness of such a metric was proved long time ago by Picard \cite{Pic1905} and Heins \cite{Hei62}, while explicit formulas for the cases $α_1=α_2=1$ were given earlier by Agard \cite{AG} and recently by Anderson, Sugawa, Vamanamurthy and Vuorinen \cite{A}. We also establish precise and explicit lower bounds for the generalized hyperbolic metric. This ext…
This paper is part of a program to understand the parameter spaces of dynamical systems generated by meromorphic functions with finitely many singular values. We give a full description of the parameter space for a specific family based on the exponential function that has precisely two finite asymptotic values and one attracting fixed point. It represents a step beyond the previous work in [GK] on degree 2 rational functions with analogous constraints: two critical values and an attracting fixed point. What is interesting and promising for pushing the general program even further, is that, de…
This paper demonstrates some connections between the coefficients of a Taylor series $f(z)=\ds\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_n z^n$ and singularities of the function. There are many known results of this type, for example, counting the number of poles on the circle of convergence, and doing convergence or overconvergence for $f$ on any arc of holomorphy. A new approach proposed here is that these kinds of results are extended by relaxing the classical conditions for singularities and convergence theorems. This is done by allowing the coefficients to be sufficiently small instead of being zero.
A crucial ingredient in the recent discovery by Ablowitz, Halburd, Herbst and Korhonen \cite{AHH}, \cite {HK-2} that a connection exists between discrete Painlevé equations and (finite order) Nevanlinna theory is an estimate of the integrated average of $\log^+|f(z+1)/f(z)|$ on $|z|=r$. We obtained essentially the same estimate in our previous paper \cite{CF} independent of Halburd et al \cite{HK-1}. We continue our study in this paper by establishing complete asymptotic relations amongst the logarithmic differences, difference quotients and logarithmic derivatives for finite order meromorphic…
We establish a rescaling theorem for isolated essential singularities of quasiregular mappings. As a consequence we show that the class of closed manifolds receiving a quasiregular mapping from a punctured unit ball with an essential singularity at the origin is exactly the class of closed quasiregularly elliptic manifolds, that is, closed manifolds receiving a non-constant quasiregular mapping from a Euclidean space.
We study how the orbits of the singularities of the inverse of a meromorphic function prescribe the dynamics on its Julia set, at least up to a set of (Lebesgue) measure zero. We concentrate on a family of entire transcendental functions with only finitely many singularities of the inverse, counting multiplicity, all of which either escape exponentially fast or are pre-periodic. For these functions we are able to decide, whether the function is recurrent of not. In the case that the Julia set is not the entire plane we also obtain estimates for the measure of the Julia set.
The Fatou-Julia theory for rational functions has been extended both to transcendental meromorphic functions and more recently to several different types of quasiregular mappings in higher dimensions. We extend the iterative theory to quasimeromorphic mappings with an essential singularity at infinity and at least one pole, constructing the Julia set for these maps. We show that this Julia set shares many properties with those for transcendental meromorphic functions and for quasiregular mappings of punctured space.
The main goal of this work is classifying the singularities of slice regular functions over a real alternative *-algebra A. This function theory has been introduced in 2011 as a higher-dimensional generalization of the classical theory of holomorphic complex functions, of the theory of slice regular quaternionic functions launched by Gentili and Struppa in 2006 and of the theory of slice monogenic functions constructed by Colombo, Sabadini and Struppa since 2009. Along with this generalization step, the larger class of slice functions over A has been defined. We introduce here a new type of se…
An exp-algebraic curve consists of a compact Riemann surface $S$ together with $n$ equivalence classes of germs of meromorphic functions modulo germs of holomorphic functions, $\HH = \{ [h_1], \cdots, [h_n] \}$, with poles of orders $d_1, \cdots, d_n \geq 1$ at points $p_1, \cdots, p_n$. This data determines a space of functions $\OO_{\HH}$ (respectively, a space of $1$-forms $Ω^0_{\HH}$) holomorphic on the punctured surface $S' = S - \{p_1, \cdots, p_n\}$ with exponential singularities at the points $p_1, \cdots, p_n$ of types $[h_1], \cdots, [h_n]$, i.e., near $p_i$ any $f \in \OO_{\HH}$ is …
Let f be a non constant meromorphic function and a(not identically zero or infinity) be a meromorphic function satisfying T(r,a) = o(T(r,f)) as r tends to infinity, and p(z) be a polynomial of degree n greater than or equal to 1 with p(0) = 0. Let P[f] be a non constant differential polynomial of f. Under certain essential conditions, we prove the uniqueness of p(f) and P[f] when p(f) and P[f] share a with weight l greater than or equal to zero. Our result generalizes the results due to Zang and Lu, Banerjee and Majumder, Bhoosnurmath and Kabbur and answers a question of Zang and Lu.
