Using the Mountain--Pass Theorem of Ambrosetti and Rabinowitz we prove that $-Δ_p u-μ|x|^{-p}{u^{p-1}}=|x|^{-s}{u^{\crits-1}}+u^{\crit-1}$ admits a positive weak solution in $\rn$ of class $\dunp\cap C^1(\rn\setminus\{0\})$, whenever $μ<μ_1$, and $μ_1=[(n-p)/p]^p$. The technique is based on the existence of extremals of some Hardy--Sobolev type embeddings of independent interest. We also show that if $u\in\dunp$ is a weak solution in $\rn$ of $-Δ_p u-μ|x|^{-p}{|u|^{p-2}u}=|x|^{-s}{|u|^{\crits-2}u}+|u|^{q-2}u$, then $u\equiv0$ when either $1<q<\crit$, or $q>\crit$ and $u$ is also of class $L^\infty_\text{\scriptsize{loc}}(\rn\setminus\{0\})$.
In $\R^m\times\R^{n-m}$, endowed with coordinates $X=(x,y)$, we consider the PDE $$ -{\rm div} \big(α(\x) |\nabla u(\X)|^{p(x)-2}\nabla u(\X)\big)=f(x,u(\X)).$$ We prove a geometric inequality and a symmetry result.
We obtain new concavity results, up to a suitable transformation, for a class of quasi-linear equations in a convex domain involving the $p$-Laplace operator and a general nonlinearity satisfying concavity type assumptions. This provides an extension of results previously known in the literature only for the torsion and the eigenfunction equations. In the semilinear case $p = 2$ the results are already new since they include new admissible nonlinearities.
In this paper we present some non existence results concerning the stable solutions to the equation $$\operatorname{div}(w(x)|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)=g(x)f(u)\;\;\mbox{in}\;\;\mathbb{R}^N;\;\;p\geq 2$$ when $f(u)$ is either $u^{-δ}+u^{-γ}$, $δ,γ>0$ or $\exp(\frac{1}{u})$ and for a suitable class of weight functions $w,g$.
In this paper, we consider radial distributional solutions of the quasilinear equation $-Δ_N u=f(u)$ in the punctured open ball $ B_R\backslash\{0\}\subset \RR^N$, $N \geq 2$. We obtain sharp conditions on the nonlinearity $f$ for extending such solutions to the whole domain $B_R$ by preserving the regularity. For a certain class of noninearity $f$ we obtain the existence of singular solutions and deduce upper and lower estimates on the growth rate near the singularity.
Let $p_i\geq 2$ and consider the following anisotropic $p$-Laplace equation $$ -\sum_{i=1}^{N}\frac{\partial}{\partial x_i}\Big(\Big|\frac{\partial u}{\partial x_i}\Big|^{p_i-2}\frac{\partial u}{\partial x_i}\Big)=g(x)f(u),\,\,u>0\text{ in }Ω. $$ Under suitable hypothesis on the weight function $g$ we present an existence result for $f(u)=e^\frac{1}{u}$ in a bounded smooth domain $Ω$ and nonexistence results for $f(u)=-e^\frac{1}{u}$ or $-(u^{-δ}+u^{-γ}),$ $δ,γ>0$ with $Ω=\mathbb{R}^N$ respectively.
We study the inverse problem for the fractional Laplace equation with multiple nonlinear lower order terms. We show that the direct problem is well-posed and the inverse problem is uniquely solvable. More specifically, the unknown nonlinearities can be uniquely determined from exterior measurements under suitable settings.
We show the various existence results for degenerate $p(x)$-Laplace equations with Leray-Lions type operators. A suitable condition on degeneracy is discussed and proofs are mainly based on direct methods and critical point theories in Calculus of Variations. In particular, we investigate the various situations of the growth rates between principal operators and nonlinearities.
We establish existence results for a class of mixed anisotropic and nonlocal $p$-Laplace equation with singular nonlinearities. We consider both constant and variable singular exponents. Our argument is based on an approximation method. To this end, we also discuss the necessary regularity properties of weak solutions of the associated non-singular problems. More precisely, we obtain local boundedness of subsolutions, Harnack inequality for solutions and weak Harnack inequality for supersolutions.
We establish some existence results for a class of critical elliptic problems with singular exponential nonlinearities. We do not assume any global sign conditions on the nonlinearity, which makes our results new even in the nonsingular case.
We prove an abstract critical point theorem based on a cohomological index theory that produces pairs of nontrivial critical points with nontrivial higher critical groups. This theorem yields pairs of nontrivial solutions that are neither local minimizers nor of mountain pass type for problems with combined nonlinearities. Applications are given to subcritical and critical $p$-Laplacian problems, Kirchhoff type nonlocal problems, and critical fractional $p$-Laplacian problems.
This paper deals with existence of a nontrivial positive solution to systems of equations involving nontrivial nonhomogeneous terms and critical or subcritical nonlinearities. Via a minimization argument we prove existence of a positive solution whose energy is negative provided that the nonhomogeneous terms are small enough in the dual norm.
We study the existence of nontrivial solutions for a nonlinear fractional elliptic equation in presence of logarithmic and critical exponential nonlinearities. This problem extends [5] to fractional $N/s$-Laplacian equations with logarithmic nonlinearity. We overcome the lack of compactness due to the critical exponential nonlinearity by using the fractional Trudinger-Moser inequality. The existence result is established via critical point theory.
We investigate qualitative properties of positive singular solutions of some elliptic systems in bounded and unbounded domains. We deduce symmetry and monotonicity properties via the moving plane procedure. Moreover, in the unbounded case, we study some cooperative elliptic systems involving critical nonlinearities in $\mathbb{R}^n$.
We prove the existence of a positive solution to a semipositone $N$-Laplacian problem with a critical Trudinger-Moser nonlinearity. The proof is based on obtaining uniform $C^{1,α}$ a priori estimates via a compactness argument. Our result is new even in the semilinear case $N = 2$, and our arguments can easily be adapted to obtain positive solutions of more general semipositone problems with critical Trudinger-Moser nonlinearities.
In this paper we prove the existence of infinitely many nontrivial solutions for the class of $(p,\, q)$ fractional elliptic equations involving concave-critical nonlinearities in bounded domains in $\mathbb{R}^N$. Further, when the nonlinearity is of convex-critical type, we establish the multiplicity of nonnegative solutions using variational methods. In particular, we show the existence of at least $cat_Ω(Ω)$ nonnegative solutions.
We study the combined effect of concave and convex nonlinearities on the number of positive solutions for a fractional system involving critical Sobolev exponents. With the help of the Nehari manifold, we prove that the system admits at least two positive solutions when the pair of parameters $(λ,μ)$ belongs to a suitable subset of $\R^2$.
We study fully nonlinear elliptic equations such as \[ F(D^2u) = u^p, \quad p>1, \] in $\R^n$ or in exterior domains, where $F$ is any uniformly elliptic, positively homogeneous operator. We show that there exists a critical exponent, depending on the homogeneity of the fundamental solution of $F$, that sharply characterizes the range of $p>1$ for which there exist positive supersolutions or solutions in any exterior domain. Our result generalizes theorems of Bidaut-Véron \cite{B} as well as Cutri and Leoni \cite{CL}, who found critical exponents for supersolutions in the whole space $\R^n$, i…
In this paper, we study the existence of multiple positive solutions for a class of fractional Schrödinger-Poisson systems involving sign-changing potential and critical nonlinearities on an unbounded domain. With the help of Nehari manifold and Ljusternik-Schnirelmann category, we investigate how the coefficient $g(x)$ of the critical nonlinearity affects the number of positive solutions. Moreover, we present a novel relationship between the number of positive solutions and the category of the global maximum set of $g(x)$.
In this paper, by utilizing a newly established variational principle on convex sets, we provide an existence and multiplicity result for a class of semilinear elliptic problems defined on the whole $\mathbb R^N$ with nonlinearities involving sublinear and superlinear terms. We shall impose no growth restriction on the nonlinear term and consequently our problem can be super-critical by means of Sobolev spaces.
We would like to study a weakly coupled system of semi-linear classical damped wave equations with moduli of continuity in nonlinearities whose powers belong to the critical curve in the $p-q$ plane. The main goal of this paper is to find out the sharp conditions of these moduli of continuity which classify between global (in time) existence of small data solutions and finite time blow-up of solutions.

The theory of elliptic equations involving singular nonlinearities is well studied topic but the interaction of singular type nonlinearity with nonlocal nonlinearity in elliptic problems has not been investigated so far. In this article, we study the very singular and doubly nonlocal singular problem $(P_λ)$(See below). Firstly, we establish a very weak comparison principle and the optimal Sobolev regularity. Next using the critical point theory of non-smooth analysis and the geometry of the energy functional, we establish the global multiplicity of positive weak solutions.
In this paper, we show the existence and multiplicity of nontrivial, non-negative solutions of the fractional $p$-Kirchhoff problem \begin{equation*} \begin{array}{rllll} M\left(\displaystyle\int_{\mathbb{R}^{2n}}\frac{|u(x)-u(y)|^p}{\left|x-y\right|^{n+ps}}dx\,dy\right)(-Δ)^{s}_p u &=λf(x)|u|^{q-2}u+ g(x)\left|u\right|^{r-2}u\, \text{in} Ω,\\ u&=0 \;\mbox{in} \mathbb{R}^{n}\setminus Ω, \end{array} \end{equation*} where $(-Δ)^{s}_p$ is the fractional $p$-Laplace operator, $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with smooth boundary, $f \in L^{\frac{r}{r-q}}(Ω)$ and $g\in L^\infty(Ω)$ are sig…
We obtain nontrivial solutions of a $(N,q)$-Laplacian problem with a critical Trudinger-Moser nonlinearity in a bounded domain. In addition to the usual difficulty of the loss of compactness associated with problems involving critical nonlinearities, this problem lacks a direct sum decomposition suitable for applying the classical linking theorem. We show that every Palais-Smale sequence at a level below a certain energy threshold admits a subsequence that converges weakly to a nontrivial critical point of the variational functional. Then we prove an abstract critical point theorem based on a …
We study critical growth elliptic problems with jumping nonlinearities. Standard linking arguments based on decompositions of $H^1_0(Ω)$ into eigenspaces of $- Δ$ cannot be used to obtain nontrivial solutions to such problems. We show that the associated variational functional admits certain linking structures based on splittings of $H^1_0(Ω)$ into nonlinear submanifolds. In order to capture these linking geometries, we prove several generalizations of the classical linking theorem of Rabinowitz that are not based on linear subspaces. We then use these new linking theorems to obtain nontrivial…
In this work we study the following fractional critical problem $$ (P_λ)=\left\{\begin{array}{ll} (-Δ)^s u=λu^{q} + u^{2^*_{s}-1}, \quad u{>}0 & \mbox{in} Ω\\ u=0 & \mbox{in} \RR^n\setminus Ω\,, \end{array}\right. $$ where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is a regular bounded domain, $λ>0$, $0<s<1$ and $n>2s$. Here $(-Δ)^s$ denotes the fractional Laplace operator defined, up to a normalization factor, by $$ -(-Δ)^s u(x)={\rm P. V.} \int_{\RR^n}\frac{u(x+y)+u(x-y)-2u(x)}{|y|^{n+2s}}\,dy, \quad x\in \RR^n. $$ Our main results show the existence and multiplicity of solutions to problem $(P_λ)$ for differe…
We study the existence of least energy sign-changing solution for the fractional equation $(-Δ)^{s} u=|u|^{2_{s}^{*}-2}u+λf(x,u)$ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^{N},$ $u=0$ in $\mathbb{R}^{N}\setminus Ω$, where $s\in (0,1)$ and $2_{s}^{*}$ is the fractional critical Sobolev exponent. The proof is based on constrained minimization in a subset of Nehari manifold, containing all the possible sign-changing solutions of the equation.
We show that any Lie point symmetry of semilinear Kohn-Laplace equations on the Heisenberg group H^1 with power nonlinearity is a divergence symmetry if and only if the corresponding exponent assumes critical value.
We prove existence and multiplicity results for a $N$-Laplacian problem with a critical exponential nonlinearity that is a natural analog of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem for the borderline case of the Sobolev inequality. This extends results in the literature for the semilinear case $N = 2$ to all $N \ge 2$. When $N > 2$ the nonlinear operator $- Δ_N$ has no linear eigenspaces and hence this extension requires new abstract critical point theorems that are not based on linear subspaces. We prove new abstract results based on the ${\mathbb Z}_2$-cohomological index and a related pseudo-index tha…
In this paper, we investigate optimal control problems for Allen-Cahn equations with singular nonlinearities and a dynamic boundary condition involving singular nonlinearities and the Laplace-Beltrami operator. The approach covers both the cases of distributed controls and of boundary controls. The cost functional is of standard tracking type, and box constraints for the controls are prescribed. Parabolic problems with nonlinear dynamic boundary conditions involving the Laplace-Beltrami operation have recently drawn increasing attention due to their importance in applications, while their opti…
This paper is devoted to studying the following nonlinear biharmonic Schrödinger equation with combined power-type nonlinearities \begin{equation*} \begin{aligned} Δ^{2}u-λu=μ|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{4^*-2}u\quad\mathrm{in}\ \mathbb{R}^{N}, \end{aligned} \end{equation*} where $N\geq5$, $μ>0$, $2<q<2+\frac{8}{N}$, $4^*=\frac{2N}{N-4}$ is the $H^2$-critical Sobolev exponent, and $λ$ appears as a Lagrange multiplier. By analyzing the behavior of the ground state energy with respect to the prescribed mass, we establish the existence of normalized ground state solutions. Furthermore, all ground states are p…
In this paper, under very general assumptions, we prove existence and regularity of distributional solutions to homogeneous Dirichlet problems of the form $$\begin{cases} \displaystyle - Δ_{1} u = h(u)f & \text{in}\, Ω,\newline u\geq 0& \text{in}\ Ω, \newline u=0 & \text{on}\ \partial Ω, \end{cases} $$ where, $Δ_{1} $ is the $1$-laplace operator, $Ω$ is a bounded open subset of $\mathbb{R}^N$ with Lipschitz boundary, $h(s)$ is a continuous function which may become singular at $s=0^{+}$, and $f$ is a nonnegative datum in $L^{N,\infty}(Ω)$ with suitable small norm. Uniqueness of solutions is al…
Using the complete group classification of semilinear differential equations on the three-dimensional Heisenberg group carried out in a preceding work, we establish the conservation laws for the critical Kohn-Laplace equations via the Noether's Theorem.
We investigate the existence of ground states with prescribed mass for the NLS energy with combined $L^2$-critical and subcritical nonlinearities, on a general non-compact metric graph $\mathcal{G}$. The interplay between the different nonlinearities creates new phenomena with respect to purely critical or subcritical problems on graphs; from a different perspective, topological and metric properties of the underlying graph drastically influence existence and non-existence of ground states with respect to the analogue problem on the real line.
In this paper we prove the existence of a positive solution of the nonlinear and nonlocal elliptic equation in $\mathbb{R}^n$ \[ (-Δ)^s u =\varepsilon h u^q+u^{2_s^*-1} \] in the convex case $1\leq q<2_s^*-1$, where $ 2_s^*={2n}/({n-2s}) $ is the critical fractional Sobolev exponent, $(-Δ)^s$ is the fractional Laplace operator, $\varepsilon$ is a small parameter and $h$ is a given bounded, integrable function. The problem has a variational structure and we prove the existence of a solution by using the classical Mountain-Pass Theorem. We work here with the harmonic extension of the fractional …
In this paper, we consider the fractional elliptic equation \begin{align*} \left\{\begin{aligned} &(-Δ)^s u-μ\frac{u}{|x|^{2s}} = \frac{|u|^{2_s^\ast (α)-2}u}{|x|^α} + f(x,u), && \mbox{in} \ Ω,\\ &u=0, && \mbox{in} \ \mathbb{R}^{n}\backslash \ Ω, \end{aligned}\right. \end{align*} where $Ω\subset R^n$ is a smooth bounded domain, $0\inΩ$, $0<s<1$, $0<α<2s<n$, $2_{s}^{\ast}(α)=\frac{2(n-α)}{n-2s}$. Under some assumptions on $μ$ and $f$, we obtain the existence of nonnegative solutions.
We study the existence and non-existence of nontrivial weak solution of $$ {Δ^2u-μ\frac{u}{|x|^{4}} = \frac{|u|^{q_β-2}u}{|x|^β}+|u|^{q-2}u\quad\textrm{in ${\mathbb R}^N$,}} $$ where $N\geq 5$, $q_β=\frac{2(N-β)}{N-4}$, $0<β<4$, $1<q\leq 2^{**}$ and $μ<μ_1:=\big(\frac{N(N-4)}{4}\big)^2$. Using Pohozaev type of identity, we prove the non-existence result when $1<q< 2^{**}$. On the other hand when the equation has multiple critical nonlinearities i.e. $q=2^{**}$ and $-(N-2)^2\leqμ<μ_1$, we establish the existence of nontrivial solution using the Mountain-Pass theorem by Ambrosetti and Rabinowitz…
We study the critical points of Laplace eigenfunctions on polygonal domains with a focus on the second Neumann eigenfunction. We show that if each convex quadrilaterals has no second Neumann eigenfunction with an interior critical point, then there exists a convex quadrilateral with an unstable critical point. We also show that each critical point of a second-Neumann eigenfunction on a Lip-1 polygon with no orthogonal sides is an acute vertex.
In this paper, we are concerned with the following type of elliptic problems: $$ (-Δ)^α u+a(x) u=\frac{|u|^{2^*_{s}-2}u}{|x|^s}+k(x)|u|^{q-2}u, u\,\in\,H^α({\mathbb R}^N), $$ where $2<q< 2^*$, $0<α<1$, $0<s<2α$, $2^*_{s}=2(N-s)/(N-2α)$ is the critical Sobolev-Hardy exponent, $2^*=2N/(N-2α)$ is the critical Sobolev exponent, $a(x),k(x)\in C({\mathbb R}^N)$. Through a compactness analysis of the functional associated to the problem, we obtain the existence of positive solutions under certain assumptions on $a(x),k(x)$.
In this paper we consider the Cauchy problem for the semilinear damped wave equation $u_{tt}-Δu + u_t = h(u);\qquad u(0;x) = f(x); \quad u_t(0;x) = g(x);$ where $h(s) = |s|^{1+2/n}μ(|s|)$. Here n is the space dimension and $μ$ is a modulus of continuity. Our goal is to obtain sharp conditions on $μ$ to obtain a threshold between global (in time) existence of small data solutions (stability of the zerosolution) and blow-up behavior even of small data solutions.
Under the assumption of finite energy, positive solutions to the critical p-Laplace equation in $\mathbb{R}^n$ for $1< p<n$ have been classified completely by moving plane method. In this paper, the author provide a new approach to obtain the same classification results for $\frac{n+1}{3}\leq p<n$, without any further assumptions.
