We study localized plasma configurations in 3+1 dimensional massive field theories obtained by Scherk-Schwarz compactification of 4+1 dimensional CFT to predict the thermodynamic properties of localized blackholes and blackrings in Scherk-Schwarz compactified $AdS_6$ using the AdS/CFT correspondence. We present an exact solution to the relativistic Navier-Stokes equation in the thin ring limit of the fluid configuration. We also perform a thorough numerical analysis to obtain the thermodynamic properties of the most general solution. Finally we compare our results with the recent proposal for the phase diagram of blackholes in six flat dimensions and find some similarities but other differences.
We construct solutions to the relativistic Navier-Stokes equations that describe the long wavelength collective dynamics of the deconfined plasma phase of N=4 Yang Mills theory compactified down to d=3 on a Scherk-Schwarz circle and higher dimensional generalisations. Our solutions are stationary, axially symmetric spinning balls and rings of plasma. These solutions, which are dual to (yet to be constructed) rotating black holes and black rings in Scherk-Schwarz compactified AdS(5) and AdS(6), and have properties that are qualitatively similar to those of black holes and black rings in flat fi…
TeV scale black hole thermodynamics in the presence of quantum gravity effects encoded in the existence of a minimal length and a maximal momentum is studied in a model universe with large extra dimensions.
In this paper we study thermodynamics, statistics and spectroscopic aspects of a charged black hole with a scalar hair coupled to the gravity in (2+1) dimensions. We obtained effects of the black hole charge and scalar field on the thermodynamical and statistical quantities. We find that scalar charge may increase entropy, temperature and probability, while may decrease black hole mass, free and internal energy. Also electric charge increases probability and decreases temperature and internal energy. Also we investigate stability of the system and find that the thermodynamical stability exists…
We analyze noncommutative deformations of a higher dimensional anti-de Sitter-Einstein-Born-Infeld black hole. Two models based on noncommutative inspired distributions of mass and charge are discussed and their thermodynamical properties are calculated. In the (3+1)-dimensional case, the equation of state and the Gibbs energy function of each model are found.
The Fischler-Susskind entropy bound has been studied in (2+1)-dimensional universes with negative cosmological constant. As in all contracting universes, that bound is not satisfied. Furthermore, we found that the Fischler-Susskind bound is not compatible with a generalized second law of thermodynamics in (2+1)-dimensional cosmology, neither the classical nor the quantum version. On the other hand, the Hubble entropy bound has been constructed in (2+1)-dimensional cosmology and it is shown compatible with the generalized second law of thermodynamics.
We investigate the extended thermodynamic properties of higher-dimensional Taub-NUT/Bolt-AdS spaces where a cosmological constant is treated as a pressure. We find a general form for thermodynamic volumes of Taub-NUT/Bolt-AdS black holes for arbitrary dimensions. Interestingly, it is found that the Taub-NUT-AdS metric has a thermodynamically stable range when the total number of dimensions is a multiple of 4 (4, 8, 12, ...). We also explore their phase structure and find the first order phase transition holds for higher-dimensional cases.
We construct a new class of $(n+1)$-dimensional $(n\geq3)$ black hole solutions in Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton gravity with Liouville-type potential for the dilaton field and investigate their properties. These solutions are neither asymptotically flat nor (anti)-de Sitter. We find that these solutions can represent black holes, with inner and outer event horizons, an extreme black hole or a naked singularity provided the parameters of the solutions are chosen suitably. We compute the thermodynamic quantities of the black hole solutions and find that these quantities satisfy the first law of …
We obtain the thermodynamic geometry of a (2+1) dimensional strongly coupled quantum field theory at a finite temperature in a holographic set up, through the gauge/gravity correspondence. The bulk dual gravitational theory is described by a (3+1) dimensional charged AdS black hole in the presence of a massive charged scalar field. The holographic free energy of the (2+1) dimensional strongly coupled boundary field theory is computed analytically through the bulk boundary correspondence. The thermodynamic metric and the corresponding scalar curvature is then obtained from the holographic free …
The issue concerning the existence of exact black hole solutions in presence of non vanishing cosmological constant and scalar fields is reconsidered. With regard to this, in investigating no-hair theorem violations, exact solutions of gravity having as a source an interacting and conformally coupled scalar field are revisited in arbitrary dimensional non asymptotically flat space-times. New and known hairy black hole solutions are discussed. The thermodynamical properties associated with these solutions are investigated and the invariance of the black hole entropy with respect to different co…
We probe the low-temperature behavior of a system of quantum bouncers as a theoretical model for ultracold neutrons within a low energy modified version of the standard quantum mechanics, due to the gravitational effects. Working in one dimension, the energy spectrum and bound states of a deformed quantum bouncer are obtained using the first-order WKB approximation, granted the very low energy regime of the particle. In this manner, we can study energy levels of a system of ultracold neutrons as an informative probe towards exploring the low energy manifestation of semi-classical quantum gravi…
We perform a double quotient of global AdS$_4$ and study its thermal properties. We find that a double quotient yields a spacetime with an expanding compact dimension. Studying the entanglement of the dual CFT we find that, at early times, the spacetime has thermal properties which disappear after a critical time. For slow expansion, this critical time depends on the expansion rate as expected, but becomes much more sensitive with more rapid expansion rates.
In this work we study thermodynamics of 2+1-dimensional static black holes with a nonlinear electric field. Besides employing the standard thermodynamic approach, we investigate the black hole thermodynamics by studying its thermodynamic geometry. We compute the Weinhold and Ruppeiner metrics and compare the thermodynamic geometry with the standard description on the black hole thermodynamics. We further consider the cosmological constant as an additional extensive thermodynamic variable. In the thermodynamic equilibrium three dimensional space, we compute the efficiency of the heat engine and…
We relate various black hole solutions in the near-horizon region to black hole solutions in two-dimensional dilaton gravity theories in order to argue that thermodynamics of black holes in D>=4 can be effectively described by thermodynamics of black holes in two-dimensional dilaton gravity theories. We show that the Bekenstein-Hawking entropies of single-charged dilatonic black holes and dilatonic p-branes with an arbitrary dilaton coupling parameter in arbitrary spacetime dimensions are exactly reproduced by the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the two-dimensional black hole in the associated t…
The two-dimensional theory of Teitelboim and Jackiw has constant and negative curvature. In spite of this, the theory admits a black hole solution with no singularities. In this work we study the thermodynamics of this black hole using York's formalism.
In this paper, we have investigated the entanglement thermodynamics for $d$-dimensional charged $AdS$ black hole by studying the holographic entanglement entropy in different cases. We have first computed the holographic entanglement entropy in extremal and non-extremal cases in two different regimes, namely, the low temperature and high temperature limits. We then obtain the first law of entanglement thermodynamics for boundary field theory in the low temperature regime in $d$-dimensions.
On the basis of Bethe ansatz solution of bosons with delta-function interaction in a one-dimensional potential well, the thermodynamics equilibrium of the system in finite temperature is studied by using the strategy of Yang and Yang. The thermodynamics quantities, such as specific heat etc. are obtained for the cases of strong coupling limit and weak coupling limit respectively.
Treating the cosmological constant as thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate as thermodynamic volume, we investigate the critical behavior of the third order Lovelock black holes in diverse dimensions. For black hole horizons with different normalized sectional curvature $k=0,\pm1$, the corresponding critical behaviors differ drastically. For $k=0$, there is no critical point in the extended thermodynamic phase space. For $k=-1$, there is a single critical point in any dimension $d\geq 7$, and for $k=+1$, there is a single critical point in $7$ dimension and two critical points in $8,9,10,11…
We derive new identities for the thermodynamic variables of five-dimensional, asymptotically flat, stationary and biaxisymmetric vacuum black holes. These identities depend on the topology of the solution and include contributions arising from certain topological charges. The proof employs the harmonic map formulation of the vacuum Einstein equations for solutions with these symmetries.
Conditions for thermodynamic stability of asymptotically anti-de Sitter rotating black holes in D-dimensions are determined. Local thermodynamic stability requires not only positivity conditions on the specific heat and the moment of inertia tensor but it is also necessary that the adiabatic compressibility be positive. It is shown that, in the absence of a cosmological constant, neither rotation nor charge is sufficient to ensure full local thermodynamic stability of a black hole. Thermodynamic stability properties of anti-de Sitter Myers-Perry black holes are investigated for both singly spi…
Thermodynamic potentials relevant to the micro-canonical, the canonical and the grand-canonical ensembles, associated with rotating black holes in D-dimensions, are analysed and compared. Such black holes are known to be thermodynamically unstable, but the instability is a consequence of a subtle interplay between specific heats and the moments of inertia and it manifests itself differently in the different ensembles. A simple relation between the product of the specific heat and the determinant of the moment of inertia in both the canonical and the grand-canonical ensembles is derived. Myers-…
We derive the first law of black rings thermodynamics in n-dimensional Einstein dilaton gravity with additional (p+1)-form field strength being the simplest generalization of five-dimensional theory containing a stationary black ring solution with dipole charge. It was done by means of choosing any cross section of the event horizon to the future of the bifurcation surface.
We have shown the thermodynamic changes in a 2+1-dimensional rotating black hole when it absorbs a particle. The microscopic changes which the black hole undergoes are interpreted using the AdS/CFT correspondence. Using particle absorption phenomena, we formulate an irreducible mass and black hole entropy directly related to the particle momenta. We describe the black hole evolution that preserves the 2nd law of thermodynamics. The numbers of microstates which evaluate the entropy are analyzed at each of the black hole evolution stages.
In this work, we provide new examples of Anti-de Sitter black holes with a planar base manifold in four-dimensional Critical Gravity by considering nonlinear electrodynamics as a matter source. We find a general solution characterized by the presence of only one integration constant where, for a suitable election of coupling constants, we can show the existence of one or more horizons. Additionally, we compute its non-null thermodynamical quantities through a variety of techniques, testing the validity of the first law of thermodynamics as well as a Smarr formula. Finally, we analyze the local…
Some thermodynamic properties of the Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole are studied to get the effective dimension of its corresponding statistical model. For this purpose, we make use of the geometrical approach to the thermodynamics: Considering the black hole as a thermodynamic system with two thermodynamic variables (the mass $M$ and the angular momemtum $J$), we obtain two-dimensional Riemannian thermodynamic geometry described by positive definite Ruppeiner metric. From the thermodynamic curvature we find that the extremal limit is the critical point. The effective spatial dimen…
We present a new expression for the five-dimensional static Kaluza-Klein black hole solution with squashed $S^3$ horizons and three different charge parameters. This black hole solution belongs to $D = 5$ $N = 2$ supergravity theory, its spacetime is locally asymptotically flat and has a spatial infinity $R \times S^1 \hookrightarrow S^2$. The form of the solution is extraordinary simple and permits us very conveniently to calculate its conserved charges by using the counterterm method. It is further shown that our thermodynamical quantities perfectly obey both the differential and the integra…
The physical process version and the equilibrium state version of the first law of black ring thermodynamics in n-dimensional Einstein gravity with Chern-Simons term were derived. This theory constitutes the simplest generalization of the five-dimensional one admitting a stationary black ring solutions. The equilibrium state version of the first law of black ring mechanics was achieved by choosing any cross section of the event horizon to the future of the bifurcation surface.
We have shown that changes occur in a (2+1)-dimensional charged black hole by adding a charged probe. The particle increases the entropy of the black hole and guarantees the second law of thermodynamics. The first law of thermodynamics is derived from the change in the black hole mass. Using the particle absorption, we test the extremal black hole and find out that the mass of the extremal black hole increases more than the electric charge. Therefore, the outer horizon of the black hole still exists. However, the extremal condition becomes non-extremal.
We focus on the study of the exact solution corresponding to charged AdS black holes surrounded by quintessence with a cloud of strings present in higher dimensional spacetime. We then investigate its corresponding thermodynamic criticality in the extended phase space and show that the spacetime dimension has no effect on the existence of small/large phase transition for such black holes. The heat capacity is evaluated and the geothermodynamics of Quevedo analyzed for different spacetime dimensions with the cloud of strings and quintessence parameters. We calculate the critical exponents descr…
We consider whether the new horizon-first law works in higher-dimensional $f(R)$ theory. We firstly obtain the general formulas to calculate the entropy and the energy of a general spherically-symmetric black hole in $D$-dimensional $f(R)$ theory. For applications, we compute the entropies and the energies of some black hokes in some interesting higher-dimensional $f(R)$ theories.
We consider the thermodynamic properties of $(d+1)$-dimensional spacetimes with NUT charges. Such spacetimes are asymptotically locally anti de Sitter (or flat), with non-trivial topology in their spatial sections, and can have fixed point sets of the Euclidean time symmetry that are either $(d-1)$-dimensional (called "bolts") or of lower dimensionality (pure "NUTs"). We compute the free energy, conserved mass, and entropy for 4, 6, 8 and 10 dimensions for each, using both Noether charge methods and the AdS/CFT-inspired counterterm approach. We then generalize these results to arbitrary dimens…
The problem of physical process version of the first law of black hole thermodynamics for charged rotating black hole in n-dimensional gravity is elaborated. The formulae for the first order variations of mass, angular momentum and canonical energy in Einstein (n-2)-gauge form field theory are derived. These variations are expressed by means of the perturbed matter energy momentum tensor and matter current density.
In this note we investigate the first law of thermodynamics of the two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) that is dual to black holes. We start from the Cardy formula and get the CFT thermodynamics with minimal reasonable assumptions. We use both the microcanonical ensemble and canonical ensemble versions of the Cardy formula. In the black hole/CFT correspondence the black hole is dual to a CFT with excitations, and the black hole mass $M$ and charge $N$ correspond to the energy and charge of the excited CFT. The CFT left- and right-moving central charges $c_{L,R}$ should be quantized, a…
We investigate thermodynamic curvatures of the Kerr and Reissner-Nordström (RN) black holes in spacetime dimensions higher than four. These black holes possess thermodynamic geometries similar to those in four dimensional spacetime. The thermodynamic geometries are the Ruppeiner geometry and the conformally related Weinhold geometry. The Ruppeiner geometry for $d=5$ Kerr black hole is curved and divergent in the extremal limit. For $d \geq 6$ Kerr black hole there is no extremality but the Ruppeiner curvature diverges where one suspects that the black hole becomes unstable. The Weinhold geomet…
In a recent work, we present a new point of view to the relation of gravity and thermodynamics, in which we derive the \sch~solution through thermodynamic laws by the aid of the Misner-Sharp mass in an adiabatic system. In this paper we continue to investigate the relation between gravity and thermodynamics for obtaining solutions via thermodynamics. We generalize our studies on gravi-thermodynamics in Einstein gravity to modified gravity theories. By using the first law with the assumption that the Misner-Sharp mass is the mass for an adiabatic system, we reproduce the Boulware-Deser-Cai solu…
We study thermodynamic properties of Myers-Perry black holes by deriving explicit fundamental relations from which we can obtain the temperature and specific heat in terms of explicit control parameters in arbitrary dimensions. Using the definition of extremal black holes we establish the generalized Kerr bound in arbitrary dimension. We study thermodynamic geometries of the Myers-Perry black holes with equal angular momenta in arbitrary dimensions and draw thermodynamic cone diagrams which capture the extremal limits of the black holes. Thermodynamic state space is represented geometrically a…
Considering the cosmological constant $Λ$ as a thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity as a thermodynamic volume as proposed in Kubiznak and Mann (2012), we discuss the critical behavior of charged AdS black hole in arbitrary dimensions $d$. In particular, we present a comparative study in terms of the spacetime dimension $d$ and the displacement of critical points controlling the transition between the small and the large black holes. Such behaviors vary nicely in terms of $d$. Among our result in this context consists in showing that the equation of state for a charged RN-AdS black…
The aim of this paper is to study the local and the global thermodynamic properties of the 3-dimensional rotating Gauss-Bonnet black hole. To this end we consider the conditions for local and global thermodynamic stability of the solution in a given ensemble of state quantities. Concerning the local analysis we found the regions of stability for every physical specific heat together with the existing Davies curves. Another central result is the generalization of the notion of global thermodynamic stability, known from the standard thermodynamics, to describe the global equilibrium of black hol…
Topological classes of thermodynamics of the static multi-charge AdS black holes in gauged supergravities: novel temperature-dependent thermodynamic topological phase transition
It is well-known that the thermal Hawking-like radiation can be emitted from the acoustic horizon, but the thermodynamic-like understanding for acoustic black holes was rarely made. In this paper, we will show that the kinematic connection can lead to the dynamic connection at the horizon between the fluid and gravitational models in two dimension, which implies that there exists the thermodynamic-like description for acoustic black holes. Then, we discuss the first law of thermodynamics for the acoustic black hole via an intriguing connection between the gravitational-like dynamics of the aco…
A rotating hairy black hole solution is found in gravity minimally coupled to a self-interacting real scalar field in three spacetime dimensions. Then we discuss analytically the horizon structure and find an analogue of the famous Kerr bound in (2+1) dimensions because of the existence of black hole horizons. We present the asymptotic symmetries and find the same symmetry group (i.e. the conformal group) and central charge as in pure gravity. Based on the asymptotic behavior, the mass and angular momentum are presented by the Regge-Teitelboim approach. Other thermodynamic quantities are also …
We investigate the first law of thermodynamics in the case of the (2+1)-dimensional BTZ black holes and Kerr-de Sitter spacetimes, in particular, we focus on the integral mass formulas. It is found that by assuming the cosmological constant as a variable state parameter, both the differential and integral mass formulas of the first law of black hole thermodynamics in the asymptotic flat spacetimes can be directly extended to those of rotating black holes in anti-de Sitter and de Sitter backgrounds. It should be pointed that these formulas come into existence in any dimensions also.
Brief comments on a plausible holographic relationship between the opposite rotational dragging effect of a (2+1)-dimensional rotating de Sitter space and the non-unitarity of a boundary conformal field theory are given. In addition to the comments, we study how the opposite rotational dragging effect affects the statistical-mechanical quantities in the rotating de Sitter space in comparison with a BTZ black hole.
We reinvestigate the thermodynamics of black objects (holes and strings) in four-dimensional braneworld models that are originally constructed by Emparan, Horowitz and Myers based on the anti-de Sitter (AdS) C-metric. After proving the uniqueness of slicing the AdS C-metric, we derive thermodynamic quantities of the black objects by means of the Euclidean formulation and find that we have no necessity of requiring any regularization to calculate their classical action. We show that there exist the Bekenstein-Hawking law and the thermodynamic first law. The thermodynamic mass of the localized b…
Using the fact that theories of gravity with asymptotically three-dimensional anti-de Sitter geometries have dual descriptions as two-dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs), we present the first study in field theory of the thermodynamic volume of various black hole solutions. We explain in general two-dimensional CFT terms why the presence of a thermodynamic volume can render certain black hole solutions "super-entropic". Super-entropicity simply results from the fact that the Cardy formula, which gives the gravitational Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, can over-count the CFT entropy. The exa…
In this paper, we study mechanics and thermodynamics of distorted, five-dimensional, electrically charged (non-extremal) black holes on the example of a static and "axisymmetric" black hole distorted by external, electrically neutral matter. Such a black hole is represented by the derived here solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations which admits an $\mathbb{R}^1\times U(1)\times U(1)$ isometry group. We study the properties of this distorted black hole.
