We give a partial uniqueness result concerning comparable renormalized solutions of the nonlinear elliptic problem $-\diw(\aop(x,Du))=μ$ in $Ω$, $u=0$ on $\partialΩ$, where $μ$ is a Radon measure with bounded variation on $Ω$.
We propose a new definition of renormalized solution to linear equation with self-adjoint operator generating a Markov semigroup and bounded Borel measure on the right-hand side. We give a uniqueness result and study the structure of solutions to truncated equations.
The weak-strong uniqueness for solutions to reaction-cross-diffusion systems in a bounded domain with no-flux boundary conditions is proved. The system generalizes the Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto population model to an arbitrary number of species. The diffusion matrix is neither symmetric nor positive definite, but the system possesses a formal gradient-flow or entropy structure. No growth conditions on the source terms are imposed. It is shown that any renormalized solution coincides with a strong solution with the same initial data, as long as the strong solution exists. The proof is based o…
We establish a weak-strong uniqueness principle for solutions to entropy-dissipating reaction-diffusion equations: As long as a strong solution to the reaction-diffusion equation exists, any weak solution and even any renormalized solution must coincide with this strong solution. Our assumptions on the reaction rates are just the entropy condition and local Lipschitz continuity; in particular, we do not impose any growth restrictions on the reaction rates. Therefore, our result applies to any single reversible reaction with mass-action kinetics as well as to systems of reversible reactions wit…
We show that there are continuous, $W^{1,p}$ ($p<d-1$), incompressible vector fields for which uniqueness of solutions to the continuity equation fails.
In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of nonnegative renormalized solutions for the fractional p(x)-Laplacian problem with L1 data. Our results are new even in the constant exponent fractional p-Laplacian equation case.
In this paper we introduce a natural function class and prove the existence and uniqueness of both nonnegative renormalized solutions and entropy solutions for the fractional p-Laplacian parabolic problem with L^1 data. And moreover, we obtain the equivalence of renormalized solutions and entropy solutions and establish a comparison result.
By means of Banach fixed point theorem , the uniqueness of Boltzmann Equation generalizaled Solutions in Sobolev spaces in $L^1(\mathbb{R}^+\times \mathbb{R}^n\times \mathbb{R}^n)$, can be proved as well as Boltzmann Equation renormalized solutions uniqueness
We prove a few existence results of a solution for a static system with a coupling of thermoviscoelastic type. As this system involves $L^1$ coupling terms we use the techniques of renormalized solutions for elliptic equations with $L^1$ data. We also prove partial uniqueness results.
We prove existence and uniqueness of renormalized solutions to general nonlinear parabolic equation in Musielak-Orlicz space avoiding growth restrictions. Namely, we consider \[\partial_t u-\mathrm{div} A(x,\nabla u)= f\in L^1(Ω_T),\] on a Lipschitz bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$. The growth of the weakly monotone vector field $A$ is controlled by a generalized nonhomogeneous and anisotropic $N$-function $M$. The approach does not require any particular type of growth condition of $M$ or its conjugate $M^*$ (neither $Δ_2$, nor $\nabla_2$). The condition we impose on $M$ is continuity of log-…
We consider the uniqueness of positive solutions to semilinear elliptic equations with double power nonlinearities. We deduce the uniqueness from the argument in the classical paper by Peletier and Serrin, thereby recovering a part of the uniqueness result of Ouyang and Shi.
We extend Barker's weak-strong uniqueness results for the Navier--Stokes equations and consider a criterion involving Besov spaces and weighted Lebesgue spaces.
We consider the continuity equation with a nonsmooth vector field and a damping term. In their fundamental paper, DiPerna and Lions proved that, when the damping term is bounded in space and time, the equation is well posed in the class of distributional solutions and the solution is transported by suitable characteristics of the vector field. In this paper, we prove existence and uniqueness of renormalized solutions in the case of an integrable damping term, employing a new logarithmic estimate inspired by analogous ideas of Ambrosio, Lecumberry, and Maniglia, Crippa and De Lellis in the Lagr…
This paper concerns with the compressible two-fluid model with algebraic pressure closure. We prove a conditional weak-strong uniqueness principle, meaning that a finite energy weak solution, with bounded densities, coincides with the classical solution on the lifespan of the latter emanating from the same initial data.
In this paper, we interest on some class of Stefan type problems. We prove the existence and uniqueness of renormalized solution in anisotropic Sobolev spaces with data belongs to $L^1- data,$ based on the properties of the renormalized trunctions and the generalized monotonicity method in the functional spaces.
We study the elliptic inclusion given in the following divergence form \begin{align*} & -\mathrm{div}\, A(x,\nabla u) \ni f\quad \mathrm{in}\quad Ω, & u=0\quad \mathrm{on}\quad \partial Ω. \end{align*} As we assume that $f\in L^1(Ω)$, the solutions to the above problem are understood in the renormalized sense. We also assume nonstandard, possibly nonpolynomial, heterogeneous and anisotropic growth and coercivity conditions on the maximally monotone multifunction $A$ which necessitates the use of the nonseparable and nonreflexive Musielak--Orlicz spaces. We prove the existence and uniqueness of…
We provide existence and uniqueness of renomalized solutions to a general nonlinear parabolic equation with merely integrable data on a Lipschitz bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$. Namely we study \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{l } \partial_t u-{\rm div} A(t,x,\nabla u)= f(t,x) \in L^1(Ω_T),\\ u(0,x)=u_0(x)\in L^1(Ω). \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} The growth of the monotone vector field $A$ is assumed to be controlled by a generalized nonhomogeneous and anisotropic $N$-function $M:[0,T)\times Ω\times\mathbb{R}^n \to[0,\infty)$. Existence and uniqueness of renormalized solutions are…
In this note we present some uniqueness and comparison results for a class of problem of the form \begin{equation} \label{EE0} \begin{array}{c} - L u = H(x,u,\nabla u)+ h(x), \quad u \in H^1_0(Ω) \cap L^{\infty}(Ω), \end{array} \end{equation} where $Ω\subset \R^N$, $N \geq 2$ is a bounded domain, $L$ is a general elliptic second order linear operator with bounded coefficients and $H$ is allowed to have a critical growth in the gradient. In some cases our assumptions prove to be sharp.
Lions (1959, Bull. Soc. Math. France, \textbf{87}, 245--273) introduced the Navier-Stokes equations with a viscous diffusion in the form of a fractional Laplacian; subsequently, he (1969, Dunod, Gauthiers-Villars, Paris) claimed the uniqueness of its solution when its exponent is not less than five quarters in case the spatial dimension is three. Following the work of Hofmanov$\acute{\mathrm{a}}$, Zhu and Zhu (2019, arXiv:1912.11841 [math.PR]), we prove the non-uniqueness in law for the three-dimensional stochastic Navier-Stokes equations with the viscous diffusion in the form of a fractional …
A linear stochastic transport equation with non-regular coefficients is considered. Under the same assumption of the deterministic theory, all weak $L^\infty$-solutions are renormalized. But then, if the noise is nondegenerate, uniqueness of weak $L^\infty$-solutions does not require essential new assumptions, opposite to the deterministic case where for instance the divergence of the drift is asked to be bounded. The proof gives a new explanation why bilinear multiplicative noise may have a regularizing effect.
This article analyzes well-definedness and regularity of renormalized powers of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes and uses this analysis to establish local existence, uniqueness and regularity of strong solutions of stochastic Ginzburg-Landau equations with polynomial nonlinearities in two space dimensions and with quadratic nonlinearities in three space dimensions.
The solution of the Chern-Simons-Higgs model in Lorenz gauge with data for the potential in $H^{s-1/2}$ and for the Higgs field in $H^s \times H^{s-1}$ is shown to be unique in the natural space $C([0,T];H^{s-1/2} \times H^s \times H^{s-1})$ for $s \ge 1$, where $s=1$ corresponds to finite energy. Huh and Oh recently proved local well-posedness for $s > 3/4$, but uniqueness was obtained only in a proper subspace $Y^s$ of Bourgain type. We prove that any solution in $C([0,T];H^{1/2} \times H^1 \times L^2)$ must in fact belong to the space $Y^{3/4+ε}$, hence it is the unique solution obtained by…
We consider the stochastic continuity equation associated to an Itô diffusion with irregular drift and diffusion coefficients. We give regularity conditions under which weak solutions are renormalized in the sense of DiPerna/Lions, and prove well-posedness in $L^p$. As an application, we give a new proof of renormalizability (hence uniqueness) of weak solutions to the stochastic continuity equation when the diffusion matrix is constant and the drift only belongs to $L^q_tL^p$, where $\frac{2}{q} + \frac{n}{p} <1$, without resorting to the regularity of the stochastic flow or a duality method.
We investigate existence and uniqueness of duality solutions for a scalar conservation law with a nonlocal interaction kernel. Following the work of Bouchut and James (Comm. Partial Diff. Eq., 24, 1999), a notion of duality solution for such a nonlinear system is proposed, for which we do not have uniqueness. Then we prove that a natural definition of the flux allows to select a solution for which uniqueness holds.
We consider a $p$-Laplace evolution problem with multiplicative noise on a bounded domain $D \subset \mathbb{R}^d$ with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for $1<p< \infty$. The random initial data is merely integrable. Consequently, the key estimates are available with respect to truncations of the solution. We introduce the notion of renormalized solutions for multiplicative stochastic $p$-Laplace equations with $L^1$-initial data and study existence and uniqueness of solutions in this framework.
The Leray-Hopf solutions to the Navier-Stokes equation are known to be unique on $\R^{2}$. In our previous work we showed the breakdown of uniqueness in a hyperbolic setting. In this article, we show how to formulate the problem in order so the uniqueness can be restored.
We prove uniqueness for continuity equations in Hilbert spaces $H$. The corresponding drift $F$ is assumed to be in a first order Sobolev space with respect to some Gaussian measure. As in previous work on the subject, the proof is based on commutator estimates which are infinite dimensional analogues to the classical ones due to DiPerna-Lions. Our general approach is, however, quite different since, instead of considering renormalized solutions, we prove a dense range condition implying uniqueness. In addition, compared to known results by Ambrosio-Figalli and Fang-Luo, we use a different app…
We study the nonlinear wave equation (NLW) on the two-dimensional torus $\mathbb T^2$ with Gaussian random initial data on $H^s(\mathbb T^2) \times H^{s-1}(\mathbb T^2)$, $s < 0$, distributed according to the base Gaussian free field $μ$ associated with the invariant Gibbs measure studied by Thomann and the first author (2020). In particular, we investigate the approximation property of the corresponding solution by smooth (random) solutions. Our main results in this paper are two-fold. (i) We show that the solution map for the renormalized cubic NLW defined on the Gaussian free field $μ$ is t…
We consider semilinear elliptic equations with double power nonlineaities. The condition to assure the existence of positive solutions is well-known. In the present paper, we remark that the additional condition to assure uniqueness proposed by Ouyang and Shi is unnecessary.
In this paper we study existence and uniqueness of renormalized solution to the following problem $λ(x,u) -div a(x,Du) +Φ(x,u)) =f$ with $f$ in $L^1$ and with Dirichlet-Neumann boundary condition. The main difficulty in this task is that in general the operator entering in the above equation is not coercive in a Sobolev space. Moreover, the possible degenerate character of $λ$ with respect to $u$ renders more complex the proof of uniqueness for integrable data $f$.
In this paper, we study the one-dimensional cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on the circle. In particular, we develop a normal form approach to study NLS in almost critical Fourier-Lebesgue spaces. By applying an infinite iteration of normal form reductions introduced by the first author with Z. Guo and S. Kwon (2013), we derive a normal form equation which is equivalent to the renormalized cubic NLS for regular solutions. For rough functions, the normal form equation behaves better than the renormalized cubic NLS, thus providing a further renormalization of the cubic NLS. We then pr…
We prove the existence and uniqueness of renormalized solutions of the Liouville equation for $n$ particles with a interaction potential in $BV_{loc}$ execpt at the origin. This implies the existence and uniqueness of a a.e. flow solution of the associated ODE.
We study the complex-valued modified Korteweg-de Vries equation (mKdV) on the circle. We first consider the real-valued setting and show global well-posedness of the (usual) renormalized mKdV equation in the Fourier-Lebesgue spaces. In the complex-valued setting, we observe that the momentum plays an important role in the well-posedness theory. In particular, we prove that the complex-valued mKdV equation is ill-posed in the sense of non-existence of solutions when the momentum is infinite, in the spirit of the work on the nonlinear Schrödinger equation by Guo-Oh (2018). This non-existence res…
We consider uniqueness of positive solutions to semilinear elliptic equations with double power nonlinearities. The condition to assure the existence of positive solutions to these types of equations has long been known. On the other hand for uniqueness, quite technical additional condition is proposed by Ouyang and Shi in 1998. In the present paper we remark that this additional condition is unnecessary.
In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a smooth solution to a tamed 3D Navier-Stokes equation in the whole space. In particular, if there exists a bounded smooth solution to the classical 3D Navier-Stokes equation, then this solution satisfies our tamed equation. Moreover, using this renormalized equation we can give a new construction for a suitable weak solution of the classical 3D Navier-Stokes equation introduced in [Scheffer: Hausdorff measure and the Navier-Stokes equations. Comm. Math. Phys., 1977] and [Caffarelli, Kohn, Nirenberg: Partial regularity of suitable weak so…
We explain why the theory of Escauriaza, Seregin, and Sverak (Russian Math. Surveys, 2003) on potential finite time singularity in Navier-Stokes solutions must be largely misapprehended. It is found that the proofs of the backward uniqueness theorem for parabolic equations contain technical errors. The stated validity of a theorem for vorticity is established on ill-informed analyses as the solenoidal constraint is not taken into account. There are many cases where parabolic scalings are erroneously applied. We briefly discuss a number of related issues.
In this article we consider existence and uniqueness of the solutions to a large class of stochastic partial differential of form $\partial_t u = L_x u + b(t,u)+σ(t,u)\dot{W}$, driven by a Gaussian noise $\dot{W}$, white in time and spatial correlations given by a generic covariance $γ$. We provide natural conditions under which classical Picard iteration procedure provides a unique solution. We illustrate the applicability of our general result by providing several interesting particular choices for the operator $L_x$ under which our existence and uniqueness result hold. In particular, we sho…
The question of unique continuation of harmonic functions in a domain $Ω$ $\subset$ R d with boundary $\partial$$Ω$, satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions and with normal derivatives vanishing on a subset $ω$ of the boundary is a classical problem. When $ω$ contains an open subset of the boundary it is a consequence of Carleman estimates (uniqueness for second order elliptic operators across an hypersurface). The case where $ω$ is a set of positive (d -- 1) dimensional measure has attracted a lot of attention, see e.g. [10, 3, 15], where qualitative results have been obtained in various sit…

The existence, uniqueness and stability of periodic traveling waves for the fractional Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation is considered. In our approach, we give sufficient conditions to prove a uniqueness result for the single-lobe solution obtained by a constrained minimization problem. The spectral stability is then shown by determining that the associated linearized operator around the wave restricted to the orthogonal of the tangent space related to the momentum and mass at the periodic wave has no negative eigenvalues. We propose the Petviashvili's method to investigate the spectral stability…
In this article, we investigate inverse source problems for a wide range of PDEs of parabolic and hyperbolic types as well as time-fractional evolution equations by partial interior observation. Restricting the source terms to the form of separated variables, we establish uniqueness results for simultaneously determining both temporal and spatial components without non-vanishing assumptions at $t=0$, which seems novel to the best of our knowledge. Remarkably, mostly we allow a rather flexible choice of the observation time not necessarily starting from $t=0$, which fits into various situations…
We deal with existence, uniqueness, and regularity for solutions of the boundary value problem $$ \begin{cases} {\mathcal L}^s u = μ&\quad \text{in $Ω$}, u(x)=0 \quad &\text{on} \ \ \mathbb{R}^N\backslashΩ, \end{cases} $$ where $Ω$ is a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^N$, $μ$ is a bounded radon measure on $Ω$, and ${\mathcal L}^s$ is a nonlocal operator of fractional order $s$ whose kernel $K$ is comparable with the one of the factional laplacian.
