We estimate the linear isoperimetric constants of an n-dimensional ellipse. Using these estimates and a technique of Gromov, we estimate the Hopf and linking invariants of Lipschitz maps from ellipses to round spheres. Using these estimates, we give a lower bound for the k-dilation of degree non-zero maps between ellipses.
We prove some isoperimetric type inequalities in warped product manifolds, or more generally, multiply warped product manifolds. We then relate them to inequalities involving the higher order mean-curvature integrals. We also apply our results to obtain sharp eigenvalue estimates and some sharp geometric inequalities in space forms.
By studying the monotonicity of the first nonzero eigenvalues of Laplace and p-Laplace operators on a closed convex hypersurface $M^n$ which evolves under inverse mean curvature flow in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, the isoperimetric lower bounds for both eigenvalues were founded.
We consider the punctured plane with volume density $|x|^α$ and perimeter density $|x|^β$. We show that centred balls are uniquely isoperimetric for indices $(α,β)$ which satisfy the conditions $α-β+1>0$, $α\leq 2β$ and $α(β+1)\leqβ^2$ except in the case $α=β=0$ which corresponds to the classical isoperimetric inequality.
In this paper we first prove some linear isoperimetric inequalities for submanifolds in the de Sitter-Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstrom manifolds. Moreover, the equality is attained. Next, we prove some monotonicity formulas for submanifolds with bounded mean curvature vector in warped product manifolds and, as consequences, we give lower bound estimates for the volume of these submanifolds in terms of the warping function. We conclude the paper with an isoperimetric inequality for minimal surfaces.
In this paper we study the relationship of hyperbolicity and (Cheeger) isoperimetric inequality in the context of Riemannian manifolds and graphs. We characterize the hyperbolic manifolds and graphs (with bounded local geometry) verifying this isoperimetric inequality, in terms of their Gromov boundary improving similar results from a previous work. In particular, we prove that having a pole is a necessary condition and, therefore, it can be removed as hypothesis.
We prove some sharp isoperimetric type inequalities for domains with smooth boundary on Riemannian manifolds. For example, using generalized convexity, we show that among all domains with a lower bound $l$ for the cut distance and Ricci curvature lower bound $(n-1)k$, the geodesic ball of radius $l$ in the space form of curvature $k$ has the largest area-to-volume ratio. A similar but reversed inequality holds if we replace a lower bound on the cut distance by a lower bound of the mean curvature. As an application we show that $C^2$ isoperimetric domains in standard space forms are balls. Gene…
Using Fourier analysis, we derive Wirtinger-type inequalities of arbitrary high order. As applications, we prove various sharp geometric inequalities for closed curves on the Euclidean plane. In particular, we obtain both sharp lower and upper bounds for the isoperimetric deficit.
In this paper, we prove a class of weighted isoperimetric inequalities for bounded domains in hyperbolic space by using the isoperimetric inequality with log-convex density in Euclidean space. As a consequence, we remove the horo-convex assumption of domains in a weighted isoperimetric inequality proved by Scheuer-Xia. Furthermore, we prove weighted isoperimetric inequalities for star-shaped domains in warped product manifolds. Particularly, we obtain a weighted isoperimetric inequality for star-shaped hypersurfaces lying outside a certain radial coordinate slice in the anti-de Sitter-Schwarzs…
We prove that on an essentially non-branching $\mathrm{MCP}(K,N)$ space, if a geodesic ball has a volume lower bound and satisfies some additional geometric conditions, then in a smaller geodesic ball (in a quantified sense) we have an estimate on the isoperimetric constants.
Given a compact Riemannian manifold with density $M$ without boundary and the real line $\mathbb{R}$ with constant density, we prove that isoperimetric regions of large volume in $M\times\mathbb{R}$ with the product density are slabs of the form $M\times [a,b]$. We previously prove, as a necessary step, the existence of isoperimetric regions in any manifold of density where a subgroup of the group of transformations preserving weighted perimeter and volume acts cocompactly.
By using optimal mass transport theory we prove a sharp isoperimetric inequality in ${\sf CD} (0,N)$ metric measure spaces assuming an asymptotic volume growth at infinity. Our result extends recently proven isoperimetric inequalities for normed spaces and Riemannian manifolds to a nonsmooth framework. In the case of $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature, we outline an alternative proof of the rigidity result of S. Brendle (2021). As applications of the isoperimetric inequality, we establish Sobolev and Rayleigh-Faber-Krahn inequalities with explicit sharp const…
We prove a pair of sharp reverse isoperimetric inequalities for domains in nonpositively curved surfaces: (1) metric disks centered at the vertex of a Euclidean cone of angle at least $2π$ have minimal area among all nonpositively curved disks of the same perimeter and the same total curvature; (2) geodesic triangles in a Euclidean (resp. hyperbolic) cone of angle at least $2π$ have minimal area among all nonpositively curved geodesic triangles (resp. all geodesic triangles of curvature at most $-1$) with the same side lengths and angles.
We prove that if a quasiconvex subset $X$ of a metric space $Y$ has finite Nagata dimension and is Lipschitz $k$-connected or admits Euclidean isoperimetric inequalities up to dimension $k$ for some $k$ then $X$ is isoperimetrically undistorted in $Y$ up to dimension $k+1$. This generalizes and strengthens a recent result of the third named author and has several consequences and applications. It yields for example that in spaces of finite Nagata dimension, Lipschitz connectedness implies Euclidean isoperimetric inequalities, and Euclidean isoperimetric inequalities imply coning inequalities. …
We consider the problem of minimizing the relative perimeter under a volume constraint in an unbounded convex body $C\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, without assuming any further regularity on the boundary of $C$. Motivated by an example of an unbounded convex body with null isoperimetric profile, we introduce the concept of unbounded convex body with uniform geometry. We then provide a handy characterization of the uniform geometry property and, by exploiting the notion of asymptotic cylinder of $C$, we prove existence of isoperimetric regions in a generalized sense. By an approximation argument we…
Motivated by Perelman's Pseudo Locality Theorem for the Ricci flow, we prove that if a Riemannian manifold has Ricci curvature bounded below in a metric ball which moreover has almost maximal volume, then in a smaller ball (in a quantified sense) it holds an almost-euclidean isoperimetric inequality. The result is actually established in the more general framework of non-smooth spaces satisfying local Ricci curvature lower bounds in a synthetic sense via optimal transportation.
In this paper we revisit the anisotropic isoperimetric and the Brunn-Minkowski inequalities for convex sets. The best known constant $C(n)=Cn^{7}$ depending on the space dimension $n$ in both inequalities is due to Segal [\ref{bib:Seg.}]. We improve that constant to $Cn^6$ for convex sets and to $Cn^5$ for centrally symmetric convex sets. We also conjecture, that the best constant in both inequalities must be of the form $Cn^2,$ i.e., quadratic in $n.$ The tools are the Brenier's mapping from the theory of mass transportation combined with new sharp geometric-arithmetic mean and some algebraic…
We investigate the logarithmic and power-type convexity of the length of the level curves for $a$-harmonic functions on smooth surfaces and related isoperimetric inequalities. In particular, our analysis covers the $p$-harmonic and the minimal surface equations. As an auxiliary result, we obtain higher Sobolev regularity properties of the solutions, including the $W^{2,2}$ regularity. The results are complemented by a number of estimates for the derivatives $L'$ and $L''$ of the length of the level curve function $L$, as well as by examples illustrating the presentation. Our work generalizes r…
Klartag recently gave a beautiful alternative proof of the isoperimetric inequalities of Levy-Gromov, Bakry-Ledoux, Bayle and E. Milman on weighted Riemannian manifolds. Klartag's approach is based on a generalization of the localization method (so-called needle decompositions) in convex geometry, inspired also by optimal transport theory. Cavalletti and Mondino subsequently generalized the localization method, in a different way more directly along optimal transport theory, to essentially non-branching metric measure spaces satisfying the curvature-dimension condition. This class in particula…
