If F is an automorphism of the spectral unit ball, we show that, in a neighborhood of any cyclic (i.e. non-derogatory) matrix of the ball, the map F can be written as conjugation by a holomorphically varying non singular matrix. This provides a shorter proof of a theorem of J. Rostand, with a slightly stronger result.
It is shown in this short note that the conjecture on the description of the group of automorphism of the spectral ball posed by Ransford and White is false.
We prove an analogue of Alexander's Theorem for holomorphic mappings of the unit ball in a complex Hilbert space: Every holomorphic mapping which takes a piece of the boundary of the unit ball into the boundary of the unit ball and whose differential at some point of this boundary is onto is the restriction of an automorphism of the ball. We also show that it is enough to assume that the mapping is only Gateaux-holomorphic.
Let $Ω$ be a bounded, convex domain in a separable Hilbert space. The authors prove a version of the theorem of Bun Wong, which asserts that if such a domain admits an automorphism orbit accumulating at a strongly pseudoconvex boundary point then it is biholomorphic to the ball. Key ingredients in the proof are a new localization argument using holomorphic peaking functions and the use of new ``normal families'' arguments in the construction of the limit biholomorphism.
Given a sequence of automorphisms of the polydisk, we show that the associated composition semigroup homomorphisms on the ball of bounded holomorphic functions on the polydisk admit a universal inner function if a certain condition on the automorphisms are satisfied.
We generalize the notion of the density property for complex manifolds to holomorphic fibrations, and introduce the notion of the fibred density property. We prove that the natural fibration of the spectral ball over the symmetrized polydisc enjoys the fibred density property and describe the automorphism group of the spectral ball.
We show that the group generated by by triangular and diagonal conjugations is dense in $\aut(Ω_2)$ (in the local-uniform topology). Moreover, it is shown that any automorphism of $Ω_2$ is a local holomorphic conjugation.
In this paper we study the projective automorphism group of domains in real, complex, and quaternionic projective space and present two new characterizations of the unit ball in terms of the size of the automorphism group and the regularity of the boundary.
We show in this paper that every domain in a separable Hilbert space, say $\cH$, which has a $C^2$ smooth strongly pseudoconvex boundary point at which an automorphism orbit accumulates is biholomorphic to the unit ball of $\cH$. This is the complete generalization of the Wong-Rosay theorem to a separable Hilbert space of infinite dimension. Our work here is an improvement from the preceding work of Kim/Krantz [KIK] and subsequent improvement of Byun/Gaussier/Kim [BGK] in the infinite dimensions.
We show that each proper holomorphic self map of a symmetric power of the unit ball is an automorphism naturally induced by an automorphism of the unit ball, provided the ball is of dimension at least two.
We show that if the group of holomorphic automorphisms of a connected complex manifold $M$ of dimension $n$ is isomorphic as a topological group equipped with the compact-open topology to the automorphism group of the unit ball $B^n\subset\CC^n$, then $M$ is biholomorphically equivalent to either $B^n$ or $\CC\PP^n\setminus\bar{B^n}$.
Let $n\geq 2$. In this paper, we obtain approximation properties of various families of normalized univalent mappings $f$ on the Euclidean unit ball $\mathbb{B}^n$ in $\mathbb{C}^n$ by automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^n$ whose restrictions to $\mathbb{B}^n$ have the same geometric property of $f$. First, we obtain approximation properties of spirallike, convex and $g$-starlike mappings $f$ on $\mathbb{B}^n$ by automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^n$ whose restrictions to $\mathbb{B}^n$ have the same geometric property of $f$, respectively. Next, for a nonresonant operator $A$ with $m(A)>0$, we obtain an a…
We identify the exposed points of the unit ball of the dual space of the ball algebra. As a corollary, we show that the predual of $H^\infty(\mathbb{B}_d)$ has no extreme points in its unit ball.
The notion of a unitary realization is used to estimate derivatives of arbitrary order of functions in the Schur-Agler class on the polydisk and unit ball.
We establish weak factorizations for a weighted Bergman space $A^p_{\a}$, with $1<p<\infty$, into two weighted Bergman spaces on the unit ball of $\C^n$. To obtain this result, we characterize bounded Hankel forms on weighted Bergman spaces on the unit ball of $\C^n$.
We characterize model polynomials that are cyclic in Dirichlet-type spaces in the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^n$, and we give a sufficient capacity condition in order to identify non-cyclic vectors.
In this paper, a new characterization is provided for the boundedness, compactness and essential norm of the difference of two weighted composition operators on weighted-type spaces in the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^n$.
In this paper, we investigate the spectra of invertible weighted composition operators with automorphism symbols, on Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb{B}_N)$ and weighted Bergman spaces $A_α^2(\mathbb{B}_N)$, where $\mathbb{B}_N$ is the unit ball of the $N$-dimensional complex space. By taking $N=1$, $\mathbb{B}_N=\mathbb{D}$ the unit disc, we also complete the discussion about the spectrum of a weighted composition operator when it is invertible on $H^2(\mathbb{D})$ or $A_α^2(\mathbb{D})$.
The boundedness and compactness of weighted composition operators from $H^\infty$ to the Bloch space in the unit ball of Cn are investigated in this paper. In particular, some new characterizations for the boundedness and the essential norm of weighted composition operators are given.
In this work, we prove that if S is a dual bounded sequence in the unit ball B of C^n for the Hardy class H^p(B), then S is H^s(B) interpolating with the linear extension property.
We obtain a formula that relates the spherical moments of the multiplication tuple on a Dirichlet-type space to a complex moment problem in several variables. This can be seen as the ball-analogue of a formula originally invented by Richter. We capitalize on this formula to study Dirichlet-type spaces on the unit ball and joint $2$-isometries.
Let $g$ be a holomorphic function of the unit ball $B$ in the $n$-dimensional space, and denote by $T_g$ and $I_g$ the induced extended Ces$\acute{a}$ro operator and another integral operator. The boundedness and compactness of $T_g$ and $I_g$ acting on the Zygmund spaces in the unit ball are discussed and necessary and sufficient conditions are given in this paper.
Some new characterizations on Carleson measures for weighted Bergman spaces on the unit ball involving product of functions are obtained. For these we characterize bounded and compact Toeplitz operators between weighted Bergman spaces. The above results are applied to characterize bounded and compact extended Cesàro operators and pointwise multiplication operators. The results are new even in the case of the unit disk.
We extend results of Bénéteau, Condori, Liaw, Seco, and the author concerning cyclic vectors in Dirichlet-type spaces to the setting of the unit ball, identifying some classes of cyclic and non-cyclic functions, and noting the necessity of certain capacity conditions.
This paper focuses on the embedding problem of linear fractional maps which explains when a linear fractional self-map of $B_{N}$ can be a member of a semigroup of holomorphic self-maps on the unit ball $B_{N}$ of the complex $N$-dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{C}^{N}$.
The boundedness of $P_ω:L^\infty(\mathbb{B})\to \mathcal{B}(\mathbb{B})$ and $P_ω(P_ω^+):L^p(\mathbb{B},\upsilon dV)\to L^p(\mathbb{B},\upsilon dV)$ on the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^n$ with $p>1$ and $ω,\upsilon\in \mathcal{D}$ are investigated in this paper.
We obtain some estimates for norm and essential norm of the difference of two composition operators between weighted Bergman spaces $A^p_α$ and $A^q_β$ on the unit ball. In particular, we completely characterize the boundedness and compactness of $C_φ-C_ψ: A^p_α\to A^q_β$ for full range $0<p,q<\infty$, $-1<α,β<\infty$.
We adapt Sarason's proof of the Julia-Caratheodory theorem to the class of Schur-Agler mappings of the unit ball, obtaining a strengthened form of this theorem. In particular those quantities which appear in the classical theorem and depend only on the component of the mapping in the complex normal direction have K-limits (not just restricted K-limits) at the boundary.
We completely describe the boundedness of the Volterra type operator $J_ g$ between Hardy spaces in the unit ball of $\Cn$. The proof of the one dimensional case used tools, such as the strong factorization for Hardy spaces, that are not available in higher dimensions, and therefore new techniques are developed. In particular, a generalized version of the description of Hardy spaces in terms of the area function is needed.
We survey results arising from the study of domains in C^n with non-compact automorphism group. Beginning with a well-known characterization of the unit ball, we develop ideas toward a consideration of weakly pseudoconvex (and even non-pseudoconvex) domains with particular emphasis on characterizations of (i) smoothly bounded domains with non-compact automorphism group and (ii) the Levi geometry of boundary orbit accumulation points. Particular attention will be paid to results derived in the past ten years.
We prove a Julia-Wolff-Caratheodory type theorem for infinitesimal generators on the unit ball in C^n. Moreover, we study jets expansions at the boundary and give necessary and sufficient conditions on such jets for an infinitesimal generator to generate a group of automorphisms of the ball.
We study proper rational maps from the unit disk to balls in higher dimensions. After gathering some known results, we study the moduli space of unitary equivalence classes of polynomial proper maps from the disk to a ball, and we establish a normal form for these equivalence classes. We also prove that all rational proper maps from the disk to a ball are homotopic in target dimension at least $2$.
Let (M,g) be a simply connected complete Kahler manifold with nonpositive sectional curvature. Assume that g has constant negative holomorphic sectional curvature outside a compact set. We prove that M is then biholomorphic to the unit ball in C^n, where dim M = n.
We consider commutative C* -algebras of Toeplitz operators in the weighted Bergman space on the unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^{\mathbf{n}}$. For the algebras of elliptic type we find a new representation, namely as the algebra of operators which are functions of certain collections of commuting unbounded self-adjoint operators in the Bergman space.
We show that there is no radial balanced metric on the unit ball of the Kepler manifold with not too wild boundary behavior. Additionally, we identify explicitly the weights corresponding to radial metrics with such boundary behavior which satisfy the balanced condition as far as germs at the boundary are concerned. Related results for Poincare metrics are also established.
We provide generalisations of two Schwarz-type lemmas -- the first a result of Globevnik and the other due to Ransford and White -- for holomorphic mappings into the spectral unit ball. The first concerns mappings of the unit disc in C into the spectral unit ball, while the second concerns self- mappings. The aforementioned results apply to holomorphic mappings that map the origin to the origin. We extend these results to general holomorphic mappings into the spectral unit ball. We also show that our results are sharp.
We study the complexity of holomorphic isometries and proper maps from the complex unit ball to type IV classical domains. We investigate on degree estimates of holomorphic isometries and holomorphic maps with minimum target dimension. We also construct a real-parameter family of mutually inequivalent holomorphic isometries from the unit ball to type IV domains. We also provide examples of non-isometric proper holomorphic maps from the complex unit ball to classical domains.
In this paper we prove a Schwarz-Pick lemma for the modulus of holomorphic mappings from the polydisk into the unit ball. This result extends some related results.
We first give an exposition on holomorphic isometries from the Poincaré disk to polydisks and from the Poincaré disk to the product of the Poincaré disk with a complex unit ball. As an application, we provide an example of proper holomorphic map from the unit disk to the complex unit ball that is irrational, algebraic and holomorphic on a neighborhood of the closed unit disk. We also include some new results on holomorphic isometries.
In this paper we prove a Schwarz lemma for harmonic mappings between the unit balls in real Euclidean spaces. Roughly speaking, our result says that under a harmonic mapping between the unit balls in real Euclidean spaces, the image of a smaller ball centered at origin can be controlled. This extends the related result proved by Chen in complex plane.
We show that Alexander's extendibility theorem for a local automorphism of the unit ball is valid also for a local automorphism $f$ of a pseudoellipsoid $\E^n_{(p_1, ..., p_{k})} \= \{z \in \C^n : \sum_{j= 1}^{n - k}|z_j|^2 + |z_{n-k+1}|^{2 p_1} + ... + |z_n|^{2 p_{k}} < 1 \}$, provided that $f$ is defined on a region $\U \subset \E^n_{(p)}$ such that: i) $\partial \U \cap \partial \E^n_{(p)}$ contains an open set of strongly pseudoconvex points; ii) $\U \cap \{z_i = 0 \} \neq \emptyset$ for any $n-k +1 \leq i \leq n$. By the counterexamples we exhibit, such hypotheses can be considered as opt…
As outlined below, this paper is devoted to a Carleson-type-measure-based study of the holomorphic Campanato $2$-space on the open unit ball $\mathbb B_n$ of $\mathbb C^n$, comprising all Hardy $2$-functions whose oscillations in non-isotropic metric balls on the compact unit sphere $\mathbb S_n$ are proportional to some power of the radius other than the dimension $n\ge 1$.
We study the holomorphic functions with Hadamard gaps in $\mathcal{N}_p$-spaces on the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^n$ when $0<p \le n$ and $p>n$. A corollary on analytic functions with Hadamard gaps on $\mathcal{N}_p$-spaces on the unit disk is also given.
We construct isometric holomorphic embeddings of the unit ball into higher rank symmetric domains, first discovered by Mok, in an explicit way using Jordan triple systems, and prove uniqueness results for all domains, including the exceptional domains of dimension 16 and 27.
In this paper we prove a Schwarz-Pick lemma for the modulus of holomorphic mappings between the unit balls in complex spaces. This extends the classical Schwarz-Pick lemma and the related result proved by Pavlovic.
We characterize the Carleson measures for an exponential Bergman space on the unit ball of $\mathbb C^n$ in terms of the ball induced by the complex Hessian of the logarithm of the weight function. The boundedness (or compactness) of integral operators, Cesàro operators and Toeplitz operators, is given using the Carleson measure (or vanishing Carleson measure) characterization.
In this article, we initiate the study of Bloch type spaces on the unit ball of a Hilbert space. As applications, the Hardy-Littlewood theorem in infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces and characterizations of some holomorphic function spaces related to the Bloch type space are presented.
We prove rigidity results for holomorphic proper maps from the complex unit ball $\mathbb{B}^n$ to the Type IV bounded symmetric domain $D^{IV}_m$ where $n \geq 4, n+1\leq m \leq 2n-3$. In addition, a classification result is established when $m=n+1.$
In this paper, we prove a general Schwarz lemma at the boundary for holomorphic mappings from the polydisc to the unit ball in any dimensions. For the special case of one complex variable, the obtained results give the classic boundary Schwarz lemma.
Given a Gaussian analytic function $f_L$ of intesity $L$ in the unit ball of $\mathbb C^n$, $n\geq 2$, consider its (random) zero variety $Z(f_L)$. We study the variance of the $(n-1)$-dimensional volume of $Z(f_L)$ inside a pseudo-hyperbolic ball of radius $r$. We first express this variance as an integral of a positive function in the unit disk. Then we study its asymptotic behaviour as $L\to\infty$ and as $r\to 1^{-}$. Both the results and the proofs generalise to the ball those given by Jeremiah Buckley for the unit disk.
In this paper we determine the $L^1\to L^1$ and $L^{\infty}\to L^\infty$ norms of an integral operator $\mathcal{N}$ related to the gradient of the solution of Poisson equation in the unit ball with vanishing boundary data in sense of distributions.
