We investigate cosmological particle production in spacetimes where Lorentz invariance emerges in the infrared limit, but is explicitly broken in the ultraviolet regime. Our specific model focuses on the boost subgroup that supports CPT invariance and results in a momentum-dependent dispersion relation. Motivated by previous studies on spacetimes emerging from a microscopic substrate, we show how these modifications naturally lead to momentum-dependent rainbow metrics. Firstly, we investigate the possibility of reproducing cosmological particle production in spacetimes emerging from real Bose gases. We have studied the influence of non-perturbative ultraviolet corrections in time-dependent analogue spacetimes, leading to momentum-dependent emergent rainbow spacetimes. Within certain limits the analogy is sufficiently good to simulate relativistic quantum field theory in time-dependent classical backgrounds, and the quantum effects are approximately robust against the model-dependent modifications. Secondly, we analyze how significantly the particle production process deviates from the common picture. While very low-energy modes do not see the difference at all, some modes "re-enter the Hubble horizon" during the inflationary epoch, and extreme ultraviolet modes are completely insensitive to the expansion.
The kinematics of particles moving in rainbow spacetime is studied in this paper. In particular the geodesics of a massive particle in rainbow flat spacetime is obtained when the semi-classical effect of its own energy on the background is taken into account. We show that in general the trajectory of a freely falling particle remains unchanged which is still a straight line as in the flat spacetime. The implication to the Unruh effect in rainbow flat spacetime is also discussed.
In this paper, we analyze Vaidya spacetime with an energy dependent metric in Galileon gravity's rainbow. This will be done using the rainbow functions which are motivated from the results obtained in loop quantum gravity approach and non-commutative geometry. We will investigate the Gravitational collapse in this Galileon gravity's rainbow. We will discuss the behavior of singularities formed from the gravitational collapse in this rainbow deformed Galileon gravity.
In this paper, we study the collapsing scenario for the k-essence emergent Vaidya spacetime in the context of massive gravity's rainbow. For this study, we consider that the background metric is Vaidya spacetime in massive gravity's rainbow. We show that the k-essence emergent gravity metric resembles closely to the new type of generalized Vaidya massive gravity metric with the rainbow deformations for null fluid collapse where we consider the k-essence scalar field as a function solely of the advanced or the retarded time. The k-essence emergent Vaidya massive gravity rainbow mass function is…
In this paper, we will analyze the energy dependent deformation of massive gravity using the formalism of massive gravity's rainbow. So, we will use the Vainshtein mechanism and the dRGT mechanism for the energy dependent massive gravity, and thus analyze a ghost free theory of massive gravity's rainbow. We study the energy dependence of a time-dependent geometry, by analyzing the radiating Vaidya solution in this theory of massive gravity's rainbow. The energy dependent deformation of this Vaidya metric will be performed using suitable rainbow functions.
We obtain a (5+1)-dimensional global flat embedding of modified Schwarzschild black hole in rainbow gravity. We show that local free-fall temperature in rainbow gravity, which depends on different energy $ω$ of a test particle, is finite at the event horizon for a freely falling observer, while local temperature is divergent at the event horizon for a fiducial observer. Moreover, these temperatures in rainbow gravity satisfy similar relations to those of the Schwarzschild black hole except overall factor $g(ω)$, which plays a key role of rainbow functions in this embedding approach.
There is a possibility that spacetime itself is ultimately an emergent phenomenon, a near-universal "low-energy long-distance approximation", similar to the way in which fluid mechanics is the near-universal low-energy long-distance approximation to quantum molecular dynamics. If so, then direct attempts to quantize spacetime are misguided - at least as far as fundamental physics is concerned. Based on this and other considerations, there has recently been a surge of interest in the notion of energy-dependent and momentum-dependent "rainbow'' geometries. In the present article I will not discu…
In this note we study an energy dependent deformation of a time dependent geometry in the background of Brans-Dicke gravity theory. The study is performed using the gravity's rainbow formalism. We compute the field equations in Brans-Dicke gravity's rainbow using Vaidya metric which is a time dependent geometry. We study a star collapsing under such conditions. Our prime objective is to determine the nature of singularity formed as a result of gravitational collapse and its strength. The idea is to test the validity of the cosmic censorship hypothesis for our model. We have also studied the ef…
A modified (Anti-)de Sitter Schwarzschild black hole solution is presented in the framework of rainbow gravity with a cosmological constant. Its thermodynamical properties are investigated. In general the temperature of modified black holes is dependent on the energy of probes which take the measurement. However, a notion of intrinsic temperature can be introduced by identifying these probes with radiation particles emitted from black holes. It is interesting to find that the Hawking temperature of this sort of black holes can be reproduced by employing the extended uncertainty principle and m…
We explore a scenario of the general relativity determined by the framework of the rainbow gravity with the purpose of searching for analogues of the Aharonov-Bohm effect. By focusing on the confinement of the Dirac field and the scalar field to a hard-wall confining potential in a modified background of the cosmic string spacetime, we examine the effects of the rainbow gravity and the topology of the cosmic string spacetime. Then, we compare each spectrum of energy with the cases where the rainbow gravity is absent.
In this paper, we proposed that at each point of spacetime, in addition to the Riemannian metric tensor which describes the geometry of spacetime and the gravitational field, there is an rainbow metric tensor which shows the geometry of spacetime depends on the energy of the test particle. Because Eddington-inspired Born-Infield(EiBI) gravity can be seen as a special bi-metric gravity, we research a varying speed of light theory for a bi-metric gravity corresponding to EiBI gravity. For FRW universe, we find the energy of test particle will increase with rising energy density of universe. We a…
In this paper we consider the Dirac oscillator in the context of Doubly General Relativity or Gravity's Rainbow. In order to obtain the energy levels of the Dirac oscillator, we solve the Dirac equation in the cosmic string spacetime modified by gravity's rainbow scenarios described by two rainbow functions. We then obtain that, as a consequence of the modification of the cosmic string line element by the two rainbow functions, the energy levels of the Dirac oscillator are appreciable altered. The results are plotted and compared with the standard case, without gravity's rainbow effects.
Klein-Gordon oscillators in traversable wormhole rainbow gravity spacetime: Conditional exact solvability via a throat radius and oscillator frequency correlation
Doubly special relativity (DSR) is an effective model for encoding quantum gravity in flat spacetime. To incorporate DSR into general relativity, one could use "Gravity's rainbow", where the spacetime background felt by a test particle would depend on its energy. For a black hole, there are two natural orthonormal frames, the stationary one hovering above it and freely falling one along geodesics. Since the rainbow metric is the metric that the radiated particles "see", a more natural orthonormal frame is the one anchored to the particles. And the cases with the stationary orthonormal frame ha…
Occurrence of spacetime singularities is one of the peculiar features of Einstein gravity, signalling limitation on probing short distances in spacetime. This alludes to the existence of a fundamental length scale in nature. On contrary, Heisenberg quantum uncertainty relation seems to allow for probing arbitrarily small length scales. To reconcile these two conflicting ideas in line with a well known framework of quantum gravity, several modifications of Heisenberg algebra have been proposed. However, it has been extensively argued that such a minimum length would introduce nonlocality in the…
Quantum evolution of a scalar field's modes propagating on quantum spacetime of a collapsing homogeneous dust ball is written effectively, as an evolution of the same quantum modes on a (semiclassical) dressed geometry. When the backreaction of the field is discarded, the classical spacetime singularity is resolved due to quantum gravity effects and is replaced by a quantum bounce on the dressed collapse background. In the presence of backreaction, the emergent (interior) dressed geometry becomes mode dependent and the energy density associated with the backreaction of each mode scales as a ra…
We obtain the exact (confluent Heun) solutions to the massive scalar field in a Gravity's Rainbow Schwarzschild metric. With these solutions at hand, we study the Hawking radiation resulting from the tunneling rate through the event horizon. We show that the emission spectrum obeys non-extensive statistics and is halted when a certain mass remnant is reached. Next, we infer constraints on the rainbow parameters from recent LHC particle physics experiments and Hubble STIS astrophysics measurements. Finally, we study the low frequency limit in order to find the modified energy spectrum around th…
In this note we explore a non-static spacetime in quantum regime in the background of $f(R)$ gravity. The time dependent Vaidya metric which represents the spacetime of a radiating body like star is studied in an energy dependent gravity's rainbow, which is a UV completion of General Relativity. In our quest we have used gravitational collapse as the main tool. The focus is to probe the nature of singularity (black hole or naked singularity) formed out of the collapsing procedure. This is achieved via a geodesic study. For our investigation we have considered two different models of $f(R)$ gra…
Inspired by applications of gravity's rainbow in UV completion of general relativity, we investigate charged topological black holes in gravity's rainbow and show that depending on the values of different parameters, these solutions may encounter with black hole solutions with two horizons, extreme black hole (one horizon) or naked singularity (without horizon). First, we obtain black hole solutions, calculate thermodynamical quantities of the system and check the first law of thermodynamics. Then, we study the thermodynamical behavior of the system including thermal stability and phase transi…
We try to go beyond the geometrical optics approximation, by showing that a massless polarized particle allows a wide class of non minimal interactions with an arbitrary gravitational field. One specific example of a curvature-dependent interaction is presented, that results in a frequency-dependent Faraday effect. Even in a Schwarzschild spacetime, this leads to the angular dispersion of polarization planes for a linearly-polarized beam of waves with different frequencies, propagating along the same ray.
We study the time-independent scattering of a planar gravitational wave propagating in the curved spacetime of a compact body with a polytropic equation of state. We begin by considering the geometric-optics limit, in which the gravitational wave propagates along null geodesics of the spacetime; we show that a wavefront passing through a neutron star of tenuity $R/M = 6$ will be focussed at a cusp caustic near the star's surface. Next, using the linearized Einstein Field Equations on a spherically-symmetric spacetime, we construct the metric perturbations in the odd and even parity sectors; an…
In this work, we explore the possibility that quantum fluctuations induce a topology change, in the context of Gravity's Rainbow. A semi-classical approach is adopted, where the graviton one-loop contribution to a classical energy in a background spacetime is computed through a variational approach with Gaussian trial wave functionals. The energy density of the graviton one-loop contribution, or equivalently the background spacetime, is then let to evolve, and consequently the classical energy is determined. More specifically, the background metric is fixed to be Minkowskian in the equation go…
The formalism of rainbow gravity is studied in a cosmological setting. We consider the very early universe which is radiation dominated. A novel treatment in our paper is to look for an ``averaged'' cosmological metric probed by radiation particles themselves. Taking their cosmological evolution into account, we derive the modified Friedmann-Robertson-Walker(FRW) equations which is a generalization of the solution presented by Magueijo and Smolin. Based on this phenomenological cosmological model we argue that the spacetime curvature has an upper bound such that the cosmological singularity is…
We establish a formal connection between the {\bf K}-essence emergent gravity scenario and generalizations of Vaidya spacetime. Choosing the {\bf K}-essence action to be of the Dirac-Born-Infeld variety, the physical spacetime to be a general static spherically symmetric black hole and restricting the {\bf K}-essence scalar field to be a function solely of the advanced or the retarded time, we show that the emergent gravity metric resembles closely the generalized Vaidya metrics for null fluid collapse proposed by Husain. Imposing null energy conditions on the emergent energy-momentum tensor d…
The energy of a particle moving on a spacetime, in principle, can affect the background metric. The modifications to it depend on the ratio of energy of the particle and the Planck energy, known as rainbow gravity. Here we find the explicit expressions for the coordinate transformations from rainbow Minkowski spacetime to accelerated frame. The corresponding metric is also obtained which we call as rainbow-Rindler metric. So far we are aware of, no body has done it in a concrete manner. Here this is found from the first principle and hence all the parameters are properly identified. The advant…
Doubly special relativity (DSR) is an effective model for encoding quantum gravity in flat spacetime. As a result of the nonlinearity of the Lorentz transformation, the energy-momentum dispersion relation is modified. One simple way to import DSR to curved spacetime is \textquotedblleft Gravity's rainbow", where the spacetime background felt by a test particle would depend on its energy. Focusing on the \textquotedblleft Amelino-Camelia dispersion relation" which is $E^{2}=m^{2}+p^{2}\left[ 1-η\left( E/m_{p}\right) ^{n}\right] $ with $n>0$, we investigate the thermodynamical properties of a Sc…
We discuss the possibility that spacetime geometry may be an emergent phenomenon. This idea has been motivated by the Analogue Gravity programme. These are systems where the kinematics of small perturbations are dominated by an effective gravitational field. In these models there is no obvious connection between the "gravitational" field tensor and the Einstein equations, as the emergent spacetime geometry arises as a consequence of linearising around some classical field. After a brief introduction on this topic, we present our recent contributions to the field.
We make use of the Lagrangian description of fluid motion to highlight certain features in the context of spacetime geometry as emergent phenomena in fluid systems. We find by using Lagrangian Perturbation Theory (LPT), that not all kind of perturbations on a steady state flow can produce analogue spacetime effect. We also explore the manifold structure of emergent spacetime by using the Lagrangian description of fluid motion. We restrict ourselves to nonrelativistic flows.
Motivated by the wide applications of BTZ black holes and interesting results of gravity's rainbow, we consider three dimensional rainbow solutions and investigate their thermodynamic properties. In addition to investigate black holes thermodynamics related to AdS/CFT correspondence, one may regard gravity's rainbow to to encode quantum gravity effects into the black hole solutions. We take into account the various models of linear and nonlinear electrodynamics and study their effects on the gravity's rainbow spacetime. We also examine thermal stability and find that obtained three dimensional…
The {\bf k-}essence emergent Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter spacetime has exactly mapped on to the Robinson-Trautman (RT) type spacetime with cosmological constant $Ł$ for certain configuration of {\bf k-}essence scalar field. Theoretically, we evaluated that the thermodynamical quantities for the RT type emergent black hole is different from the usual one in the presence of kinetic energy of the {\bf k-}essence scalar field i.e., the dark energy density. We restrict ourselves into the fact that the dark energy density (K) is to be unity, then the effective temperature and pressure both are nega…
In the context of a gravity's rainbow, the asymptotic quasinormal modes of the scalar perturbation in the quantum modified Schwarzschild black holes are investigated. By using the monodromy method, we calculated and obtained the asymptotic quasinormal frequencies, which are dominated not only by the mass parameter of the spacetime, but also by the energy functions from the modified dispersion relations. However, the real parts of the asymptotic quasinormal modes is still $T_H\ln 3$, which is consistent with Hod's conjecture. In addition, for the quantum corrected black hole, the area spacing i…
There are several indications (from different approaches) that Spacetime at the Plank Scale could be discrete. One approach to Quantum Gravity that takes this most seriously is the Causal Sets Approach. In this approach spacetime is fundamentally a discrete, random, partially ordered set (where the partial order is the causal relation). In this contribution, we examine how timelike and spacelike distances arise from a causal set (in the case that the causal set is approximated by Minkowski spacetime), and how one can use this to obtain geometrical information (such as lengths of curves) for th…
Emergent gravity views spacetime as an entity emergent from a more complete theory of interacting fundamental constituents valid at much finer resolution or higher energies, usually assumed to be above the Planck energy. In this view general relativity is an effective theory valid only at long wavelengths and low energies. For any presumed known theory for the microscopic structure of spacetime, we describe common tasks of emergent gravity (`top-down'), namely, identifying the conditions and processes or mechanisms whereby the familiar macroscopic spacetime emerges with high probability and re…
Recently, O.B.Zaslavskii considers the collision near the horizon of the extremal Kerr black hole that produces two particles and one of two particles has divergent conserved killing energy(the so called super Penrose process). O.B.Zaslavskii shows this particle can not move in a asymptotic region in this universe. This means super Penrose process for extremal Kerr black hole is impossible. However, recently, Mandar Patil and Tomohiro Harada show this particle can enter event horizon, turns back and emerges through white hole event horizon into asymptotic region in other universe. This means s…
Recently, motivated by certain loop quantum gravity inspired corrections, it was shown that for spherically symmetric midisuperspace models infinitely many second derivative theories of gravity exist (as revealed by the presence of three arbitrary functions in the corresponding Lagrangian/Hamiltonian) and not just those allowed by spherically symmetric general relativity. This freedom can be interpreted as the freedom to accommodate certain quantum gravity corrections in these models even in the absence of higher curvature terms (at a semi-classical level, at least). For a particular choice of…
In this note we review the problem of time delay of photons propagating in a spacetime with a metric that explicitly depends on the energy of the particles (Gravity-Rainbow approach). We show that corrections due to this approach -- which is closely related to DSR proposal -- produce for small redshifts ($z<<1$) smaller time delays than in the generic Lorentz Invariance Violating case.
We investigate the behaviour of quantum fields coupled to a spacetime geometry exhibiting finite regions of Euclidean (Riemannian) signature. Although from a gravity perspective this situation might seem somewhat far fetched, we will demonstrate its direct physical relevance for an explicitly realizable condensed matter system whose linearized perturbations experience an effective emergent spacetime geometry with externally controllable signature. This effective geometry is intrinsically quantum in origin, and its signature is determined by the details of the microscopic structure. At the leve…
We present a toy model where spacetime is emergent from a more fundamental microscopic system, and investigate the gray area interpolating between the collective and free-particle regimes. For a period of rapid exponential growth in the analogue universe, we argue that the intermediate regime is best described by a coloured potpourri of geometries -- a "rainbow geometry". This can be viewed as an alternative approach towards understanding quantum field theories in the presence of Lorentz-symmetry breaking at ultraviolet scales. Firstly, it is pointed out that cosmological particle production i…
Rainbow metrics are a widely used approach to metric formalism for theories with Modified Dispersion Relations. They have had a huge success in the Quantum Gravity Phenomenology literature, since they allow to introduce momentum-dependent spacetime metrics into the description of systems with Modified Dispersion Relation. In this paper, we introduce the reader to some realizations of this general idea: the original Rainbow metrics proposal, the momentum-space-inspired metric, the standard Finsler geometry approach and our alternative definition of a four-velocity-dependent metric with a massle…
Effective field theories (EFTs) have been widely used as a framework in order to place constraints on the Planck suppressed Lorentz violations predicted by various models of quantum gravity. There are however technical problems in the EFT framework when it comes to ensuring that small Lorentz violations remain small -- this is the essence of the "naturalness" problem. Herein we present an "emergent" space-time model, based on the "analogue gravity'' programme, by investigating a specific condensed-matter system that is in principle capable of simulating the salient features of an EFT framework…
The contemporary physics has revealed growing evidences that the emergence can be applied to not only biology and condensed matter systems but also gravity and spacetime. We observe that noncommutative spacetime necessarily implies emergent spacetime if spacetime at microscopic scales should be viewed as noncommutative. Since the emergent spacetime is a new fundamental paradigm for quantum gravity, it is necessary to reexamine all the rationales to introduce the multiverse hypothesis from the standpoint of emergent spacetime. We argue that the emergent spacetime certainly opens a new perspecti…
We discuss the relevance of quantum gravity to the frontier questions in high energy phenomenology: the problems of dark matter, dark energy, and vacuum selection as well as the problems of emergent spacetime and wormholes. Dark matter and dark energy phenomenology, and the problem of vacuum selection are discussed within the context of string theory as a model of quantum gravity. Emergent spacetime and wormholes are discussed in a more general context of effective theories of quantum gravity.
We argue that the emergent spacetime picture admits a background-independent formulation of cosmic inflation. The inflation in this picture corresponds to the dynamical emergence of spacetime while the conventional inflation is simply an (exponential) expansion of a preexisting spacetime owing to the vacuum energy carried by an inflaton field. We show that the cosmic inflation arises as a time-dependent solution of the matrix quantum mechanics describing the dynamical process of Planck energy condensate in vacuum without introducing any inflaton field as well as an {\it ad hoc} inflation poten…
We address issues on the origin of gravity and the dark energy (or the cosmological constant) from the perspectives of emergent gravity. We discuss how the emergent gravity reveals a noble, radically different picture about the origin of spacetime, which is crucial for a tenable solution of the cosmological constant problem. In particular, the emergent gravity naturally explains the dynamical origin of flat spacetime, which is absent in Einstein gravity.
We give an introductory account of the AdS/CFT correspondence in the 1/2-BPS sector of ${\cal N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory.Six of the dimensions of the string theory are emergent in the Yang-Mills theory. In this article we suggest how these dimensions and local physics in these dimensions emerge. The discussion is aimed at non-experts.
