We introduce our experiment of research-oriented teaching mainly in Nanjing University and Tsinghua University, China. The great population and enrollment in China makes it worth to concern. It lasts 20 years and involves thousands of students and hundreds of instructors, consultant experts. We tried many characteristic styles such as integrated teaching and case analysis, open resources, interactive mode, course paper program, elite solutions and so on. The research on the contents is also placed on the agenda. Many students joined research works that lead to PRL, APL, Nature, Science, and Cell papers. To impart colleagues the essence we offered some examples in every session. We declare the accomplishment of the experiment through this paper and new project is programming.
Development and Evaluation of Interactive, Research-oriented Teaching Elements for Raising the Students' Interest in Research and for Facilitating the Achievement of Educational Objectives within the Lecture "Atomistic Materials Modeling"
To achieve digital literacy nowadays a media education is required. The digital revolution breaks the barriers of space and time, and information has become the most valuable commodity. The new digital reality favours the convergence of all communicative media in existence and becomes the most powerful instrument, resource, means and message in globalized society. In this new reality education could be the catalyst of change, not only continuity. It is imperative to break this tendency and analyze it in a real and critical way, in all its complexity and dimensions. This is something which shou…
Research in teaching and learning sequence design. To what extent do designers theoretical orientations about learning and the nature of science shape design decisions
This review presents an overview and analysis of the body of research on special relativity theory (SRT) education at the secondary and lower undergraduate level. There is currently a growing international interest in implementing SRT in pre-university education as an introduction to modern physics. For this reason, insights into learning opportunities and challenges in SRT education are needed. The field of research in SRT education is still at an early stage, especially at the level of secondary education, and there is a shortage of empirical evaluation of learning outcomes. In order to guid…
In order to study graduate teaching assistants (TAs) beliefs and values about the design of instructor problem solutions, twenty-four TAs were provided with different solutions and asked to discuss their preferences for prominent solution features. TAs preferences for solution features were examined in light of the modeling of expert-like problem solving process as recommended in the literature. Results suggest that while many of the features TAs valued align with expert-like problem solving approaches, they noticed primarily "surface features" of solutions. Moreover, self-reported preferences…
PhysPort (www.physport.org) has become the go-to place for physics faculty to learn to apply research-based teaching and assessment in their classrooms. Usage has doubled every two years since the site was released in 2011, and 20% of all U.S. physics faculty are now verified educators on PhysPort. The lead author conceived of PhysPort in 2007 after meeting many physics faculty interested in incorporating results of physics education research (PER) in their classrooms but with no idea where to start. At the time, most PER results were buried in research journals not accessible to ordinary phys…
Authentic research as a method of teaching science is gaining popularity in high schools and colleges. To make this research experience most efficient, students need adequate preparation in traditional science courses. Existing materials available for inquiry-based teaching methods are not intended to prepare a student for independent research. We discuss principles for organization of laboratory classes with this goal in mind and provide examples that we have implemented for algebra-based physics, calculus-based physics, and honors chemistry for high school students.
In this paper we put forth a model for physics course reform that uniquely uses proven, research-based active learning strategies to help students improve their physics knowledge and problem-solving skills. In this study, we compared the exam performance of students in two sections of the same introductory physics course. One section (the traditional section, N = 258) was taught by an instructor who is highly regarded for his lectures, but did not use any active learning teaching strategies. The other section (the reformed section, N = 217) was taught by an instructor who had never before taug…
Teaching by direct models in science has been weakening the learning process of the students, because the real problems in engineering are not solved by direct models instead commonly they are solved by inverse models. On the other hand, one of the most relevant topics in the course of waves and particle physics oriented for the forming engineers; it's the subject of simple harmonic motion forced damping, which many physical phenomena can be explained as the quality factor Q and the resonance frequency of an oscillatory forced system. In order to capture the attention of students and give an a…
In the Italian education system, secondary students (ages 14-19) are confronted with the foundations of quantum physics during the final term of scientific high school (pre-university year). The Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (acronym MIUR) has remarked its importance in the syllabus to address the high school exit examination (30 percent of the 5th year physics course) but, due to limited learning time and intrinsic difficulty, this branch of physics is neither assimilated nor appreciated as it should. We wish to illustrate six didactic suggestions focused on learning …

To effectively prepare engineering students requires of formation of a system of fundamental physical knowledge together with the ability to apply them in specific productive activities, both on fundamental and on the profiled-oriented level. Accordingly the tasks of physics of high school is mastering the methodology of science knowledge and scientific way of thinking and generalize of experimental natural ability to conduct scientific research by methods of physical knowledge. In the process of teaching physics simulations simultaneously acts by scientific knowledge, is part of the content o…
