The notion of a local line bundle on a manifold, classified by 2-cohomology with real coefficients, is introduced. The twisting of pseudodifferential operators by such a line bundle leads to an algebroid with elliptic elements with real-valued index, given by a twisted variant of the Atiyah-Singer index formula. Using ideas of Boutet de Monvel and Guillemin the corresponding twisted Toeplitz algebroid on any compact symplectic manifold is shown to yield the star products of Lecomte and DeWilde ([MR84g:17014]) see also Fedosov's construction in [MR92k:58267]. This also shows that the trace on the star algebra is identified with the residue trace of Wodzicki and Guillemin
We obtain the natural diagonal almost product and locally product structures on the total space of the cotangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold. We find the Riemannian almost product (locally product) and the (almost) para-Hermitian cotangent bundles of natural diagonal lift type. We prove the characterization theorem for the natural diagonal (almost) para-Kählerian structures on the total spaces of the cotangent bundle.
Categorical bundles provide a natural framework for gauge theories involving multiple gauge groups. Unlike the case of traditional bundles there are distinct notions of triviality, and hence also of local triviality, for categorical bundles. We study categorical principal bundles that are product bundles in the categorical sense, developing the relationship between functorial sections of such bundles and trivializations. We construct functorial cocycles with values in categorical groups using a suitable family of locally defined functions on the object space of the base category. Categorical p…
We provide very general symmetrization theorems in arbitrary dimension and codimension, in products, warped products, and certain fiber bundles such as lens spaces, including Steiner, Schwarz, and spherical symmetrization and admitting density.
We show that the set of the equivalence classes of multifoliate structures is in one-to-one correspondence with the set of equivalence classes of finite complete projective systems of vector space epimorphisms. After that we give the complete description of all product preserving bundle functors on the categories of multifibered and multifoliate manifolds.
We present two formulas for Chern classes of the tensor product of two vector bundles. In the first formula we consider a matrix containing Chern classes of the first bundle and we take a polynomial of this matrix with Chern classes of the second bundle as coefficients. The determinant of this expression equals the Chern polynomial of the tensor product. In the second formula we express the total Chern class of the tensor product as resultant of two explicit polynomials with coefficient involving Chern classes of each vector bundles. This approach leads to determinantal formulas for the total …
In this note we compare the spinor bundle of a Riemannian manifold $(M=M_1\times...\times M_N,g)$ with the spinor bundles of the Riemannian factors $(M_i,g_i)$. We show, that - without any holonomy conditions - the spinor bundle of $(M,g)$ for a special class of metrics is isomorphic to a bundle obtained by tensoring the spinor bundles of $(M_i,g_i)$ in an appropriate way.
The geometric product, defined by Graf on the space of differential forms, endows the sections of the exterior bundle by a structure that is necessary to construct a Clifford algebra. The Graf product is introduced and revisited with a suitable underlying framework that naturally encompasses a coframe in the cotangent bundle, besides the volume element centrality, the Hodge operator and the so called truncated subalgebra as well.
In this paper we provide an explicit description of normal almost contact structures obtained from Cartan-Ehresmann connections (gauge fields) on principal $S^{1}$-bundles over complex flag manifolds. The main feature of our approach is to employ elements of representation theory of complex simple Lie algebras in order to describe and classify these structures. We use these normal almost contact structures to explicitly describe a huge class of compact Hermitian non-Kähler manifolds obtained from products of principal $S^{1}$-bundles over complex flag manifolds. Moreover, we obtain from our de…
We show the existence of a symplectic structure on the moduli space of the Seiberg-Witten equations on $Σ\times Σ$ where $Σ$ is a compact oriented Riemann surface. To prequantize the moduli space, we construct a Quillen-type determinant line bundle on it and show its curvature is proportional to the symplectic form.
We explore several notions of $k$-form at a point in a diffeological space, construct bundles of such $k$-forms, and compare sections of these bundles to differential forms. As they are defined locally, our $k$-forms can contain more information than the values of differential forms contain, and we illustrate this with many examples. To organize our work, we develop the basic theory of diffeological vector pseudo-bundles, including a detailed understanding of their limits and colimits, as well as a variety of fibrewise operations such as products, direct sums, tensor products, exterior powers …
In this paper we give some examples of almost para-hyperhermitian structures on the tangent bundle of an almost product manifold, on the product manifold $M\times\mathbb{R}$, where $M$ is a manifold endowed with a mixed 3-structure and on the circle bundle over a manifold with a mixed 3-structure.
We construct new examples of manifolds with cyclic-parallel Ricci tensor, so called A-manifolds, on a r-torus bundle over a product of almost Hodge A-manifolds.
Let $ι\colon \mathcal{F}_0\to\mathcal{F}_1 $ be a suitably oriented inclusion of foliations over a manifold $M$, then we extend the construction of the lower shriek maps given by Hilsum and Skandalis to adiabatic deformation groupoid C*-algebras: we construct an asymptotic morphism $(ι_{ad}^{[0,1)})_!\in E_n\left(C^*(G_{ad}^{[0,1)}), C^*(H_{ad}^{[0,1)})\right)$, where $G$ and $H$ are the monodromy groupoids associated with $\mathcal{F}_0$ and $\mathcal{F}_1$ respectively. Furthermore, we prove an interior Kasparov product formula for foliated $\varrho$-classes associated with longitudinal metr…
We give explicit formulas for conformally invariant operators with leading term an $m$-th power of Laplacian on the product of spheres with the natural pseudo-Riemannian product metric for all $m$.
We prove explicit formulas for Chern classes of tensor products of vector bundles, with coefficients given by certain universal polynomials in the ranks of the two bundles.
We propose a model in which a spliced vector bundle (with an arbitrary number of gauge structures in the splice) possesses a geometry which do not split. The model employs connection 1-forms with values in a space-product of Lie algebras, and therefore interlaces the various gauge structures in a non-trivial manner. Special attention is given to the structure of the geometric ghost sector and the super-algebra it possesses: The ghosts emerge as $x$-dependent deformations at the gauge sector, and the associated BRST super algebra is realized as constraints that follow from the invariance of the…
In \cite{BR1}, \cite{BR2}, a parabolic determinant line bundle on a moduli space of stable parabolic bundles was constructed, along with a Hermitian structure on it. The construction of the Hermitian structure was indirect: The parabolic determinant line bundle was identified with the pullback of the determinant line bundle on a moduli space of usual vector bundles over a covering curve. The Hermitian structure on the parabolic determinant bundle was taken to be the pullback of the Quillen metric on the determinant line bundle on the moduli space of usual vector bundles. Here a direct construc…
The purpose of this paper is to investigate canonical metrics on a semi-stable vector bundle E over a compact Kahler manifold X. It is shown that, if E is semi-stable, then Donaldson's functional is bounded from below. This implies that E admits an approximate Hermitian-Einstein structure, generalizing a classic result of Kobayashi for projective manifolds to the Kahler case. As an application some basic properties of semi-stable vector bundles over compact Kahler manifolds are established, such as the fact that semi-stability is preserved under tensor product and certain exterior and symmetri…
We study differential invariants of linear differential operators and use them to find conditions for equivalence of differential operators acting in line bundles over smooth manifolds with respect to groups of authomorphisms.
We construct the first examples of manifolds, the simplest one being the product of S^3, S^4, and R^5, which admit infinitely many complete nonnegatively curved metrics with pairwise nonhomeomorphic souls.
Consider a Riemann surface $X$ of genus $g \geq 2$ equipped with an antiholomorphic involution $τ$. This induces a natural involution on the moduli space $M(r,d)$ of semistable Higgs bundles of rank $r$ and degree $d$. If $D$ is a divisor such that $τ(D) = D$, this restricts to an involution on the moduli space $M(r,D)$ of semistable Higgs bundles of rank $r$ with fixed determinant $\mathcal{O}(D)$ and trace-free Higgs field. The fixed point sets of these involutions $M(r,d)^τ$ and $M(r,D)^τ$ are $(A,A,B)$-branes introduced by Baraglia-Schaposnik. In this paper, we derive formulas for the mod …
Consider a very ample line bundle $ E \to X$ over a compact complex manifold, endowed with a hermitian metric of curvature $-i ω$, and the space $\mathcal{O}(E)$ of its holomorphic sections. The Fubini--Study map associates with positive definite inner products $\langle \, , \rangle$ on $\mathcal{O}(E)$ functions FS$(\langle \, ,\rangle) \in \mathcal{H}_ω=\{u \in C^{\infty}(X):ω+i\partial\overline{\partial} u >0\}$. We prove that FS is an injective immersion, but its image in general is not closed in $\mathcal{H}_ω$. To obtain a closed range, FS has to be extended to certain degenerate inner p…
Let $M$ be an irreducible smooth complex projective variety equipped with an action of a compact Lie group $G$, and let $({\mathcal L},h)$ be a $G$-equivariant holomorphic Hermitian line bundle on $M$. Given a compact connected Riemann surface $X$, we construct a $G$-equivariant holomorphic Hermitian line bundle $(L\,,H)$ on $X\times M$ (the action of $G$ on $X$ is trivial), such that the corresponding Quillen determinant line bundle $({\mathcal Q}, h_Q)$, which is a $G$--equivariant holomorphic Hermitian line bundle on $M$, is isomorphic to the given $G$--equivariant holomorphic Hermitian lin…
For the Jacobian resulting from the previously considered problem of the path integral reduction in Wiener path integrals for a mechanical system with symmetry describing the motion of two interacting scalar particles on a manifold that is the product of a smooth compact finite-dimensional Riemannian manifold and a finite-dimensional vector space, a geometric representation is obtained. This representation follows from the formula for the scalar curvature of the original manifold endowed by definition with a free isometric smooth action of a compact semisimple Lie group. The derivation of this…
Discrete vector bundles are important in Physics and recently found remarkable applications in Computer Graphics. This article approaches discrete bundles from the viewpoint of Discrete Differential Geometry, including a complete classification of discrete vector bundles over finite simplicial complexes. In particular, we obtain a discrete analogue of a theorem of André Weil on the classification of hermitian line bundles. Moreover, we associate to each discrete hermitian line bundle with curvature a unique piecewise-smooth hermitian line bundle of piecewise constant curvature. This is then us…
Generalized contact bundles are odd dimensional analogues of generalized complex manifolds. They have been introduced recently and very little is known about them. In this paper we study their local structure. Specifically, we prove a local splitting theorem similar to those appearing in Poisson geometry. In particular, in a neighborhood of a regular point, a generalized contact bundle is either the product of a contact and a complex manifold or the product of a symplectic manifold and a manifold equipped with an integrable complex structure on the gauge algebroid of the trivial line bundle.
We introduce the notion of Hermitian Higgs bundle as a natural generalization of the notion of Hermitian vector bundle and we study some vanishing theorems concerning Hermitian Higgs bundles when the base manifold is a compact complex manifold. We show that a first vanishing result, proved for these objects when the base manifold was Kähler, also holds when the manifold is compact complex. From this fact and some basic properties of Hermitian Higgs bundles, we conclude several results. In particular we show that, in analogy to the classical case, there are vanishing theorems for invariant sect…
The problem for consistency between linear transports along paths and real bundle metrics in real vector bundles is stated. Necessary and/or sufficient conditions, as well as conditions for existence, for such consistency are derived. All metrics (resp. transports) consistent with a given transport (resp. metric) are explicitly obtained. The special case of linear transports, generated by derivations of tensor algebras, of vectors is considered. Analogous problems are investigated in complex vector bundles endowed with Hermitian metrics.
