We have studied the scalar field as well as the fermonic field perturbations in the background of the massless BTZ black holes. Comparing with the perturbation results in the generic nonrotating BTZ black hole background, we found that the massless BTZ hole contains only normal modes in the perturbations. We argued that this special property reflects that the massless BTZ black hole is a different phase from that of the generic nonrotating BTZ hole.
We compute the quasinormal frequencies of rotating black holes using the continued fraction method first proposed by Leaver. The main difference with former works, is that our results are obtained by a new numerical technique which avoids the use of two dimensional root-finding routines. The technique is applied to evaluate the angular eigenvalues of Teukolsky's angular equation. This method allow us to calculate both the slowly and the rapidly damped quasinormal frequencies with excellent accuracy.
We exactly calculate the quasinormal frequencies of the electromagnetic and Klein-Gordon perturbations propagating in a five-dimensional dilatonic black hole. Furthermore we exactly find the quasinormal frequencies of the massive Dirac field. Using these results we study the linear stability of this black hole. We compare our results for the quasinormal frequencies and for the linear stability of the five-dimensional black hole with those already published.
We study z=4 Topological black hole in 4+1 dimensional Horava-Lifshitz gravity and we calculate analytically the quasinormal modes of scalar perturbations and from these quasinormal modes we show that z=4 Topological black hole in 4+1 dimensional Horava-Lifshitz gravity is stable.
For a two-dimensional black hole we determine the quasinormal frequencies of the Klein-Gordon and Dirac fields. In contrast to the well known examples whose spectrum of quasinormal frequencies is discrete, for this black hole we find a continuous spectrum of quasinormal frequencies, but there are unstable quasinormal modes. In the framework of the Hod and Maggiore proposals we also discuss the consequences of these results on the form of the entropy spectrum for the two-dimensional black hole.
We have studied the sound perturbation of Unruh's acoustic geometry and we present an exact expression for the quasinormal modes of this geometry. We are obtain that the quasinormal frequencies are pure-imaginary, that give a purely damped modes.
Motivated by the recent computations of the quasinormal frequencies of higher dimensional black holes we exactly calculate the quasinormal frequencies of the Dirac field propagating in D-dimensional (D > 4) massless topological black hole. From the exact values of the quasinormal frequencies for the fermion and boson fields we discuss whether the recently proposed bound on the relaxation time of a perturbed thermodynamical system is satisfied in D-dimensional massless topological black hole. Also we study the consequences of these results.
We calculate exactly the quasinormal frequencies of Klein-Gordon and Dirac test fields propagating in two-dimensional uncharged Achucarro-Ortiz black hole. For both test fields we study whether the quasinormal frequencies are well defined in the massless limit. We use their values to discuss the classical stability of the quasinormal modes in uncharged Achucarro-Ortiz black hole and to check the recently proposed Time Times Temperature bound. Furthermore we extend some of these results to the charged Achucarro-Ortiz black hole.
We clarify the purely imaginary quasinormal frequencies of a massless scalar perturbation on the 3D charged-dilaton black holes. This case is quite interesting because the potential-step appears outside the event horizon similar to the case of the electromagnetic perturbations on the large Schwarzschild-AdS black holes. It turns out that the potential-step type provides the purely imaginary quasinormal frequencies, while the potential-barrier type gives the complex quasinormal modes.
Motivated by the recent interest in the study of the spacetimes that are asymptotically Lifshitz and in order to extend some previous results, we calculate exactly the quasinormal frequencies of the electromagnetic field in a D-dimensional asymptotically Lifshitz black hole. Based on the values obtained for the quasinormal frequencies we discuss the classical stability of the quasinormal modes. We also study whether the electromagnetic field possesses unstable modes in the D-dimensional Lifshitz spacetime.
We obtain an analytical expression for the electromagnetic quasinormal spectrum of the higher-dimensional nearly-extremal Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole. The WKB method is used to verify the results, and a comparison with known results from previous works is briefly made as well.
In this paper we study the Dirac quasinormal modes of an uncharged 2 + 1 black hole proposed by Mandal et. al and referred to as MSW black hole in this work. The quasi- normal mode is studied using WKB approximation method. The study shows that the imaginary part of quasinormal frequencies increases indicating that the oscillations are damping and hence the black hole is stable against Dirac perturbations.
We investigate a condensed matter ``black hole'' analogue, taking the Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) equation as a starting point. The linearized GP equation corresponds to a wave equation on a black hole background, giving quasinormal modes under some appropriate conditions. We suggest that we can know the detailed characters and corresponding geometrical information about the acoustic black hole by observing quasinormal ringdown waves in the low temperature condensed matters.
We study charged fermionic perturbations in the background of two-dimensional charged Dilatonic black holes, and we present the exact Dirac quasinormal modes. Also, we study the stability of these black holes under charged fermionic perturbations.
We study new type black holes in three-dimensional New Massive Gravity and we calculate analytically the quasinormal modes for fermionic perturbations for some special cases. Then, we show that for these cases the new type black holes are stable under fermionic field perturbations.
Using the Pöshl-Teller approximation, we evaluate the neutrino quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a Kerr-Newman-de Sitter black hole. The result shows that for a Kerr-Newman-de Sitter black hole, massless neutrino perturbation of large $Λ$, positive $m$ and small value of $n$ will decay slowly.
The quasinormal modes of the electromagnetic and gravitational perturbation on Schwarzschild-AdS black hole calculated by Cardoso and Lemos has been revisited. Although the equations of motion are correct some frequencies calculated previously by the authors are not. We present the new values of quasinormal modes and discuss the possible sources of problems and implications on the conclusions presented.
We study Chern-Simons black holes in d-dimensions and we calculate analytically the quasinormal modes of fermionic perturbations. Also, we consider as background the five-dimensional Chern-Simons black hole with torsion and the BTZ black hole with torsion. We have found that the quasinormal modes depend on the highest power of curvature present in the Chern-Simons theory, such as occurs for the quasinormal modes of scalar perturbations. We also show that the effect of the torsion is to modify the real part of the quasinormal frequencies, which modify the oscillation frequency of the field for …
We provide semi-analytic expressions for quasinormal mode frequencies of slowly rotating Kerr black holes to the quadratic order in the rotation parameter. We apply the parametrized black hole quasinormal mode ringdown formalism to the Chandrasekhar-Detweiler equation and the Sasaki-Nakamura equation instead of the Teukolsky equation, and compare our result with the previous numerical calculations.
We have studied quasinormal modes of spinor $\frac{1}{2}$, massless Dirac field perturbations of a black hole in massive gravity. The parameters of the theory, such as the mass of the black hole, the scalar charge of the black hole, mode number and the multipole number are varied to observe how the corresponding quasinormal frequencies change. We have also used the P$\ddot{o}$schl-Teller approximation to reach analytical values for the frequencies of quasinormal modes for comparison with the numerically obtained values. Comparisons are done with the frequencies of the Schwarzschild black hole.
We discuss whether the minimally coupled massless Klein-Gordon and Dirac fields have well defined quasinormal modes in single horizon, asymptotically flat two-dimensional black holes. To get the result we solve the equations of motion in the massless limit and we also calculate the effective potentials of Schrodinger type equations. Furthermore we calculate exactly the quasinormal frequencies of the Dirac field propagating in the two-dimensional uncharged Witten black hole. We compare our results on its quasinormal frequencies with other already published.
We analyze in detail the highly damped quasinormal modes of $D$-dimensional extremal Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{\rm{o}}$m and Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{\rm{o}}$m-de Sitter black holes. We only consider the extremal case where the event horizon and the Cauchy inner horizon coincide. We show that, even though the topology of the Stokes/anti-Stokes lines in the extremal case is different than the non-extremal case, the highly damped quasinormal mode frequencies of extremal black holes match exactly with the extremal limit of the non-extremal black hole quasinormal mode frequencies.
It has been suggested that the highly damped quasinormal modes of black holes provide information about the microscopic quantum gravitational states underlying black hole entropy. This interpretation requires the form of the highly damped quasinormal mode frequency to be universally of the form: $\hbarω_R = \ln(l)kT_{BH}$, where $l$ is an integer, and $T_{BH}$ is the black hole temperature. We summarize the results of an analysis of the highly damped quasinormal modes for a large class of single horizon, asymptotically flat black holes.
We compute the quasinormal frequencies of the Kerr black hole using a continued fraction method. The continued fraction method first proposed by Leaver is still the only known method stable and accurate for the numerical determination of the Kerr quasinormal frequencies. We numerically obtain not only the slowly but also the rapidly damped quasinormal frequencies and analyze the peculiar behavior of these frequencies at the Kerr limit. We also calculate the algebraically special frequency first identified by Chandrasekhar and confirm that it coincide with the $n=8$ quasinormal frequency only a…
We sketch the results of calculations of the quasinormal frequencies of the electrically charged dilaton black hole. At the earlier phase of evaporation (Q is less than 0.7-0.8M), the dilaton black hole "rings" with the complex frequencies which differ negligibly from those of the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole. The spectrum of the frequencies weakly depends upon the dilaton coupling.
A recent investigation has led to the possibility of the existence of an interesting region of the asymptotic quasinormal mode spectrum of Schwarzschild-anti de Sitter black holes. In this asymptotic region, the real part of quasinormal mode frequencies approaches infinity while the damping rate approaches a finite value. These quasinormal mode frequencies were calculated using an analytic technique based on the complex coordinate WKB method. In this paper, we use a different analytic technique to calculate such quasinormal mode frequencies. The results of this paper provide further support of…
We present detailed calculations of the quasinormal modes of Reissner-Nordstrom black holes. While the first few, slowly damped, modes depend on the charge of the black hole in a relatively simple way, we find that the rapidly damped modes show several peculiar features. The higher modes generally spiral into the value for the extreme black hole as the charge increases. We also discuss the possible existence of a purely imaginary mode for the Schwarzschild black hole: Our data suggest that there is a quasinormal mode that limits to $ωM = -2i$ as $Q\to 0$.
We investigate the quasinormal modes for gravitational perturbations of rotating black holes in four dimensional Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. The study of the quasinormal frequencies related to these modes is relevant to the AdS/CFT correspondence. Although results have been obtained for Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstrom AdS black holes, quasinormal frequencies of Kerr-AdS black holes are computed for the first time. We solve the Teukolsky equations in AdS spacetime, providing a second order and a Pade approximation for the angular eigenvalues associated to the Teukolsky angular equation…
We employ WKB approximation up to the third order to determine the low-lying quasinormal modes for Weyl neutrino field in R-N black holes, which are the most relevant to the evolution of the field around a black hole in the intermediate stage. It is showed that the quasinormal mode frequencies for Weyl neutrino field in R-N black holes are different from those in Schwartzchild black holes owning to the charge-induced additional gravitation, and the variations of the quasinormal mode frequencies for Weyl neutrino field are similar to those for integral spin fields in R-N black holes.
Quasinormal modes provide valuable information about the structure of spacetime outside a black hole. There is also a conjectured relationship between the highly damped quasinormal modes and the semi-classical spectrum of the horizon area/entropy. In this paper, we show that for spacetimes characterized by more than one scale, the "infinitely damped" modes in principle probe the structure of spacetime outside the horizon at the shortest length scales. We demonstrate this with the calculation of the highly damped quasinormal modes of the non-singular, single horizon, quantum corrected black hol…
We evaluate the complex frequencies of the normal modes for the massive charged scalar field perturbations around a Reissner-Nördstrom black hole surrounded by a static and spherically symmetric quintessence using third order WKB approximation approach. Due to the presence of quintessence, quasinormal frequencies damp more slowly. We studied the variation of quasinormal frequencies with charge of the black bole, mass and charge of perturbating scalar field and the quintessential state parameter.
In a D-dimensional Lifshitz black hole we calculate exactly the quasinormal frequencies of a test Dirac field in the massless and zero angular eigenvalue limits. These results are an extension of the previous calculations in which the quasinormal frequencies of the Dirac field are determined, but in four dimensions. We discuss the four-dimensional limit of our expressions for the quasinormal frequencies and compare with the previous results. We also determine whether the Dirac field has unstable modes in the D-dimensional Lifshitz spacetime.
Quasinormal mode spectra for gravitational perturbations of black holes in four dimensional de Sitter and anti-de Sitter space are investigated. The anti-de Sitter case is relevant to the ADS-CFT correspondence in superstring theory. The ADS-CFT correspondence suggests a prefered set of boundary conditions.
The quantum spectra of area and entropy of higher dimensional linear dilaton black holes in various theories via the quasinormal modes method are studied. It is shown that quasinormal modes of these black holes can reveal themselves when a specific condition holds. Finally, we obtain that a higher dimensional linear dilaton black hole has equidistant area and entropy spectra, and both of them are independent on the spacetime dimension.
We compute characteristic (quasinormal) frequencies corresponding to decay of a massive charged scalar field in a Reissner-Nordstrom black hole background. It proves that, contrary to the behavior at very late times, at the stage of quasinormal ringing the neutral perturbations will damp slower than the charged ones. In the limit of the extremal black hole the damping rate of charged and neutral perturbations coincides. Possible connection of this with the critical collapse in a massive scalar electrodynamics is discussed.
We have extended the semianalytic technique of Iyer and Will for computing the complex quasinormal frequencies of black holes, $ω,$ by constructing the Padé approximants of the (formal) series for $ω^{2}$. It is shown that for the (so far best documented) quasinormal frequencies of the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström black holes the Padé transforms $P_{6}^{6}$ and $P_{7}^{6}$ are, within the domain of applicability, always in excellent agreement with the numerical results. We argue that the method may serve as the black box with the "potential" $Q(x)$ as an input and the accurate quasinor…
We study the quasinormal modes of the massless scalar field of Park black hole in the Hořava gravity using the third order WKB approximation method and found that black hole is stable against these perturbation. We compare and discuss the results with that of Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole. Thermodynamic properties of Park black hole are investigated and the thermodynamic behavior of upper mass bound is also studied.
In this paper we investigate scalar perturbations of black holes embedded in a five dimensional bulk space. It is calculated the quasinormal frequencies of a such black holes using the third order of Wentzel, Kramers, Brillouin (WKB) approximation for scalar perturbations. The results are presented in tables along the text.
The dirac quasinormal modes of the Reissner-Nordström black hole surrounded by quintessence are investigated using the third WKB approximation. We find that the magnitude of the imaginary part of the quasinormal mode frequencies increases firstly and then decreases as the charge $Q$ increases, but it decreases as the absolute value of $w_{q}$ increases. The magnitude of the imaginary part of quasinormal complex frequencies is smaller than those with no quintessence. That is to say, the dirac field damps more slowly due to the presence of quintessence.
We study neutral massless scalar field perturbations around an extreme dilaton black hole in 2 +1 dimensions: the wave equations of the massless scalar field is shown to be exactly solvable in terms of Whittaker functions. Thus, the quasinormal modes are computed exactly and shown to be purely imaginary: we show the existence of stable and unstable modes. Interestingly, the quasinormal modes do not depend on the black holes parameters and the fundamental mode is always unstable and depends only on the parameters of the test field. Also, we determine the quasinormal frequencies via the improved…
In this paper we study the scalar and electromagnetic perturbations of an extended black hole in F(R) gravity. The quasinormal modes in two cases are evaluated and studied their behavior by plotting graphs in each case. To study the quasinormal mode, we use the third order WKB method. The present study shows that the absolute value of imaginary part of complex quasinormal modes increases in both cases, thus the black hole is stable against these perturbations. As the mass of the scalar field increases the imaginary part of the frequency decreases. Thus damping slows down with increasing mass o…
The quasinormal spectrum of a charged scalar field around a non-extremal Reissner-Nordström black hole, specially in the limit of large electromagnetic interaction, has been comprehensively studied only very recently. In this work, we extend the analysis to Dirac fields using the continued fraction method and compare the results with the scalar case. In particular, we study the behaviour of the fundamental quasinormal mode as a function of the black hole's charge and of the electromagnetic interaction parameter. We derive an analytical formula for the quasinormal frequencies in the limit of la…
Realistic black holes are usually dynamical, noticeable or sluggish. The Vaidya metric is a significant and tractable model for simulating a dynamical black hole. In this study, we consider scalar perturbations in a dynamical Vaidya black hole, and explore the quasinormal modes by employing the matrix method. We find the proper boundary conditions of the quasinormal modes from physical analysis in the background of a dynamical black hole for the first time. The results show that the eigenfrequencies become different at the apparent horizon and null infinity, because the physical interactions p…
We investigate the influence of vacuum polarization of quantum massive fields on the scalar sector of quasinormal modes in spherically symmetric black holes. We consider the evolution of a massless scalar field on the spacetime corresponding to a charged semiclassical black hole, consisting of the quantum corrected geometry of a Reissner-Nordström black hole dressed by a quantum massive scalar field in the large mass limit. Using a sixth order WKB approach we find the shift in the quasinormal mode frequencies due to vacuum polarization .
In this paper, we investigate the photon sphere, shadow radius and quasinormal modes of a charged black hole in presence of quintessence. The result shows that the shadow radius decreases with the increase of the electric charge. The quasinormal modes are derived by the sixth WKB approximation method and shadow radius, respectively. For the fixed electric charge and multipole number, the values of the real and imaginary parts of the quasinormal modes decrease with the increase of the quintessence charge. When the value of the multipole number is large, the quasinormal modes derived by the two …
The Newman-Penrose formalism is used to deal with the quasinormal modes(QNM's) of Rarita-Schwinger perturbations outside a Reissner-Nordström black hole. We obtain four kinds of possible expressions of effective potentials, which are proved to be of the same spectra of quasinormal mode frequencies. The quasinormal mode frequencies evaluated by the WKB potential approximation show that, similar to those for Dirac perturbations, the real parts of the frequencies increase with the charge $Q$ and decrease with the mode number $n$, while the dampings almost keep unchanged as the charge increases.
The imaginary part of the quasinormal frequencies spectrum for a static and spherically symmetric black hole is analytically known to be equally spaced, both for the highly damped and the weakly damped families of quasinormal modes. Some interesting attempts have been made in the last twenty years to understand in simple ways this level spacing for the only case of highly damped quasinormal frequencies. Here, we show that the overtone level spacing, for both the highly damped and weakly damped families of quasinormal modes, can simply be understood as a fingerprint of a hidden local $SL(2,\mat…
We study scalar perturbations for a four-dimensional asymptotically Lifshitz black hole in conformal gravity with dynamical exponent z=0, and spherical topology for the transverse section, and we find analytically and numerically the quasinormal modes for scalar fields for some special cases. Then, we study the stability of these black holes under scalar field perturbations and the greybody factors.
In this paper we investigate gravitational perturbations of a regular black hole, particularly Bardeen solution. Such system is solution of Einstein equations that do not have a singularity at the origin of the radial symmetry. However it still have events horizons depending on the values of the characteristic parameters of the solution. When a black hole is perturbed, it oscillates. It gives rise to damped vibrating modes which are known as quasinormal modes. It is calculated the quasinormal frequencies of a regular black hole using the third order WKB approximation for gravitational perturba…
Black-hole quasinormal modes have been the subject of much recent attention, with the hope that these oscillation frequencies may shed some light on the elusive theory of quantum gravity. We study {\it analytically} the asymptotic quasinormal spectrum of a {\it charged} scalar field in the (charged) Reissner-Nordström spacetime. We find an analytic expression for these black-hole resonances in terms of the black-hole physical parameters: its Bekenstein-Hawking temperature $T_{BH}$, and its electric potential $Φ$. We discuss the applicability of the results in the context of black-hole quantiza…
Gravitational perturbations in the geometry of asymptotically flat black hole solution in the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz(HL) gravity are considered and the associated quasinormal mode(QNM) frequencies are evaluated using WKB method. Black holes are found to be stable against small perturbations. We also find a significant deviation in the behavior of QNMs in HL theory for low values of HL parameter $ω$, from that in the standard General Relativity(GR). QNMs are long lived in Hořava theory compared with the usual Schwarzschild black hole case.
We evaluate the quasinormal modes of massless scalar field around Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{\text{o}}$m black hole surrounded by a static and spherically symmetric quintessence by using the continued fraction method. The appropriate Frobenius series for three special cases of the quintessence parameter $ ε= -1/3, -2/3$ and $-1$ are derived successfully. We show that the variation of quasinormal frequencies with charge of the black hole and the quintessential parameters. The numerical results show that quintessence field decreases oscillation frequencies of all angular momentum $l$ modes and incre…
Black hole quasinormal frequencies are complex numbers that encode information on how a black hole relaxes after it has been perturbed and depend on the features of the geometry and on the type of perturbations. On the one hand, the examples studied so far in the literature focused on the case of black hole geometries with singularities in their interior. On the other hand, it is expected that quantum or classical modifications of general relativity may correct the pathological singular behavior of classical black hole solutions. Despite the fact that we do not have at hand a complete theory o…
