The adiabatic self-consistent collective coordinate (ASCC) method is applied to the pairing-plus-quadrupole (P + Q) model Hamiltonian including the quadrupole pairing, and the oblate-prolate shape coexistence phenomena in proton-rich nuclei, 68Se and 72Kr, are investigated. It is shown that the collective path connecting the oblate and prolate local minima runs along a triaxial valley in the beta-gamma plane. Quantum collective Hamiltonian is constructed and low-lying energy spectra and E2 transition probabilities are calculated for the first time using the ASCC method. Basic properties of the shape coexistence/mixing are well reproduced. We also clarify the effects of the time-odd pair field on the collective mass (inertial function) for the large-amplitude vibration and on the rotational moments of inertia about three principal axes.
We investigate a description of shape-mixing and shape-transitions using collective coordinates. To that end we apply a theory of adiabatic large-amplitude motion to a simplified nuclear shell-model, where the approximate results can be contrasted with exact diagonalisations. We find excellent agreement for different regimes, and contrast the results with those from a more standard calculation using a quadrupole constraint. We show that the method employed in this work selects diabatic (crossing) potential energy curves where these are appropriate, and discuss the implications for a microscopi…
Assuming that the time-evolution of the self-consistent mean field is determined by five pairs of collective coordinate and collective momentum, we microscopically derive the collective Hamiltonian for low-frequency quadrupole modes of excitation. We show that the five-dimensional collective Schrödinger equation is capable of describing large-amplitude quadrupole shape dynamics seen as shape coexistence/mixing phenomena. We focus on basic ideas and recent advances of the approaches based on the time-dependent mean-field theory, but relations to other time-independent approaches are also briefl…
The goal of this contribution is to analyze the connection between shape coexistence and quantum phase transition, two seemingly unrelated phenomena that share common aspects, namely, the rapid change in the ground state structure along an isotope chain or the presence of several minima at the mean-field level. To illustrate the similarities and differences between both phenomena, we will focus in the Pb region, in particular in Pt and Hg isotopes, as well as in Zr isotopes.
From a viewpoint of oblate-prolate symmetry and its breaking, we adopt the quadrupole collective Hamiltonian to study dynamics of triaxial deformation in shape coexistence phenomena. It accommodates the axially symmetric rotor model, the $γ$-unstable model, the rigid triaxial rotor model and an ideal situation for the oblate-prolate shape coexistence as particular cases. Numerical solutions of this model yield a number of interesting suggestions. (1) The relative energy of the excited 0+ state can be a signature of the potential shape along the $γ$ direction. (2) Specific E2 transition probabi…
The deformation properties of 74Ge, 74Se and 74Kr are studied within the phenomenological Bohr-Mottelson model, having as input the experimental collective energy states, as well with Covariant Density Functional theories based on microscopic structural information. The results of these approaches are shown to be compatible in what concerns the presence of coexisting shapes in the considered nuclei, while the emergence of shape mixing is deduced from the phenomenological calculated collective states.
We investigate the emergence and evolution of shape coexistence in the neutron-deficient Lead isotopes within the interacting boson model (IBM) plus configuration mixing with microscopic input based on the Gogny energy density functional (EDF). The microscopic potential energy surface obtained from the constrained self-consistent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method employing the Gogny-D1M EDF is mapped onto the coherent-state expectation value of the configuration-mixing IBM Hamiltonian. In this way, the parameters of the IBM Hamiltonian are fixed for each of the three relevant configurations (sphe…
Microscopic dynamics of the oblate-prolate shape coexistence/mixing phenomena in 68Se and 72Kr are studied by means of the adiabatic self-consistent collective coordinate (ASCC) method in conjunction with the pairing-plus-quadrupole (P+Q) Hamiltonian including the quadrupole pairing interaction. Quantum collective Hamiltonian is constructed, and excitation spectra, spectroscopic quadrupole moments and quadrupole transition properties are evaluated. The effect of the time-odd pair field on the collective mass (inertia function) of the large-amplitude vibration and the rotational moments of iner…

Shape coexistence has been a subject of great interest in nuclear physics for many decades. In the context of the nuclear shell model, intruder excitations may give rise to remarkably low-lying excited $0^+$ states associated with different intrinsic shapes. In heavy open-shell nuclei, the dimension of the shell-model configuration space that includes such intruder excitations becomes exceedingly large, thus requiring a drastic truncation scheme. Such a framework has been provided by the interacting boson model (IBM). In this article we address the phenomenon of shape coexistence and its relev…
Shape coexistence problems in N=14 isotones are studied with a microscopic method of antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. The present calculations reproduce features of deformation in 28Si, and predict possible shape coexistence of neutron density in neutron-rich nuclei(19B and 24Ne). We also systematically study the structures of the ground and excited states, and the molecular resonances of 28Si. Besides the shape coexistence in the low-energy region, the results indicate the high-lying levels with $α$-cluster and 12C+16O molecular structures in 28Si, which are consistent with the observed sp…

A $γγ$ angular correlation experiment has been performed to investigate the low-energy states of the nucleus $^{98}$Mo. The new data, including spin assignments, multipole mixing ratios and lifetimes reveal evidence for shape coexistence and mixing in $^{98}$Mo, arising from a proton intruder configuration. This result is reproduced by a theoretical calculation within the proton-neutron interacting boson model with configuration mixing, based on microscopic energy density functional theory. The microscopic calculation indicates the importance of the proton particle-hole excitation across the Z…
The adiabatic selfconsistent collective coordinate method is applied to an exactly solvable multi-O(4) model which simulates nuclear shape coexistence phenomena. Collective mass and dynamics of large amplitude collective motions in this model system are analysed, and it is shown that the method can well describe the tunneling motions through the barrier between the prolate and oblate local minima in the collective potential. Emergence of the doublet pattern is well reproduced.
We introduce a microscopic approach to derive all the inertial functions in the five-dimensional quadrupole collective Hamiltonian. Local normal modes are evaluated on the constrained mean field in the quasiparticle random-phase approximation in order to derive the inertial functions. The collective Hamiltonians for neutron-rich Mg isotopes are determined with use of this approach, and the shape coexistence/mixing around the N = 20 region is analyzed.
On the basis of the adiabatic self-consistent collective coordinate method, we develop an efficient microscopic method of deriving the five-dimensional quadrupole collective Hamiltonian and illustrate its usefulness by applying it to the oblate-prolate shape coexistence/mixing phenomena in proton-rich 68,70,72Se. In this method, the vibrational and rotational collective masses (inertial functions) are determined by local normal modes built on constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov states. Numerical calculations are carried out using the pairing-plus-quadrupole Hamiltonian including the quadrupole…
Construction of the microscopic theory of large-amplitude collective motion, capable of describing a wide variety of quantum collective phenomena in nuclei, is a long-standing and fundamental subject in the study of nuclear many-body systems. Present status of the challenge toward this goal is discussed taking the shape coexistence/mixing phenomena as typical manifestations of the large-amplitude collective motion at zero temperature. Some open problems in rapidly rotating cold nuclei are also briefly discussed in this connection.
A method of deriving the Hamiltonian of the interacting boson model, that is based on the microscopic framework of the nuclear energy density functional, is presented. The constrained self-consistent mean-field calculation with a given energy density functional provides potential energy surface within the relevant collective coordinates, which is subsequently mapped onto the expectation value of the interacting-boson Hamiltonian in the boson condensate state. This procedure completely determines the strength parameters of the IBM, and the diagonalization of the mapped Hamiltonian yields excita…
The phenomena of shape evolution and shape coexistence in even-even $^{88-126}$Zr and $^{88-126}$Mo isotopes is studied by employing covariant density functional theory (CDFT) with density-dependent point coupling parameter sets DD-PCX and DD-PC1, and with separable pairing interaction. The results for rms deviation in binding energies, two-neutron separation energy, the differential variation of two-neutron separation energy, and rms charge radii, as a function of neutron number, are presented and compared with available experimental data. In addition to the oblate-prolate shape coexistence i…
The mechanism of backbending is semi-phenomenologically investigated based on the hybridization of two rotational bands. These bands are defined by treating a model Hamiltonian describing two interacting subsystems: a set of particles moving in a deformed mean field and interacting among themselves through an effective pairing force and a phenomenological deformed core whose intrinsic ground state is an axially symmetric coherent boson state. The two components interact with each other by a quadrupole-quadrupole and a spin-spin interaction. The total Hamiltonian is considered in the space of s…
We have developed a new method for determining microscopically the fivedimensional quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, on the basis of the adiabatic self-consistent collective coordinate method. This method consists of the constrained Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) equation and the local QRPA (LQRPA) equations, which are an extension of the usual QRPA (quasiparticle random phase approximation) to non-HFB-equilibrium points, on top of the CHFB states. One of the advantages of our method is that the inertial functions calculated with this method contain the contributions of the time-odd components…
Background: The lead region, Po, Pb, Hg, and Pt, shows up the presence of coexisting structures having different deformation and corresponding to different particle-hole configurations in the Shell Model language. Method: We study in detail a long chain of polonium isotopes, 190-208Po, using the interacting boson model with configuration mixing (IBM-CM). We fix the parameters of the Hamiltonians th…
Coexistence of different geometric shapes at low energies presents a universal structure phenomenon that occurs over the entire chart of nuclides. Studies of the shape coexistence are important for understanding the microscopic origin of collectivity and modifications of shell structure in exotic nuclei far from stability. The aim of this work is to provide a systematic analysis of characteristic signatures of coexisting nuclear shapes in different mass regions, using a global self-consistent theoretical method based on universal energy density functionals and the quadrupole collective model. …
The nucleus $^{44}$Ti has low-lying levels of various kinds of mutually very different nuclear structure displaying the richness of the nuclear many-body dynamics. It is shown that the deformed-basis antisymmetrized molecular dynamics by the use of the Gogny D1S force reproduces successfully and unifiedly two types of coexistence phenomena in $^{44}$Ti. Namely, on one hand, the coexistence of the mean field structure and the cluster structure is confirmed by verifying the normally deformed structure of the $K^π$=$3^-_1$ band with a 1-particle-jump intrinsic configuration and the $α+ ^{40}$Ca c…
We discuss the nature of the low-frequency quadrupole vibrations from small-amplitude to large-amplitude regimes. We consider full five-dimensional quadrupole dynamics including three-dimensional rotations restoring the broken symmetries as well as axially symmetric and asymmetric shape fluctuations. Assuming that the time-evolution of the self-consistent mean field is determined by five pairs of collective coordinates and collective momenta, we microscopically derive the collective Hamiltonian of Bohr and Mottelson, which describes low-frequency quadrupole dynamics. We show that the five-dime…
A semi-microscopic model to study the neutron and proton induced backbending phenomena in some deformed even-even nuclei from the rare earth region, is proposed. The space of particle-core states is defined by the angular momentum projection of a quadrupole deformed product state. The backbending phenomena are described by mixing four rotational bands, defined by a set of angular momentum projected states, and a model Hamiltonian describing a set of paired particles moving in a deformed mean field and interacting with a phenomenological deformed core. The ground band corresponds to the configu…
Background: In neutron-rich nuclei neighboring 42Si, the quenching of the N = 28 shell gap occurs and is expected to induce the shape coexistence in their excitation spectra. Purpose: We show that different nuclear shapes coexist in N = 28 isotones 40Mg, 42Si, and 44S, and investigate observables to probe it. Method: Antisymmetrized molecular dynamics with Gogny D1S density functional is applied to describe the shape coexistence phenomena without ad hoc assumption of the nuclear shape. Results: We find that rigid shapes with different deformations coexist in the ground and the first excited 0+…
Superconductivity (SC) or superfluidity (SF) is observed across a remarkably broad range of fermionic systems: in BCS, cuprate, iron-based, organic, and heavy-fermion superconductors, and superfluid helium-3 in condensed matter; in a variety of SC/SF phenomena in low-energy nuclear physics; in ultracold, trapped atomic gases; and in various exotic possibilities in neutron stars. The range of physical conditions and differences in microscopic physics defy all attempts to unify this behavior in any conventional picture. Here we propose a unification through the shared symmetry properties of the …
