Dendriform structures arise naturally in algebraic combinatorics (where they allow, for example, the splitting of the shuffle product into two pieces) and through Rota-Baxter algebra structures (the latter appear, among others, in differential systems and in the renormalization process of pQFT). We prove new combinatorial identities in dendriform dialgebras that appear to be strongly related to classical phenomena, such as the combinatorics of Lyndon words, rewriting rules in Lie algebras, or the fine structure of the Malvenuto-Reutenauer algebra. One of these identities is an abstract noncommutative, dendriform, generalization of the Bohnenblust-Spitzer identity and of an identity involving iterated Chen integrals due to C.S. Lam.
We prove a q-identity in the dendriform dialgebra of colored free quasi-symmetric functions. For q=1, we recover identities due to Ebrahimi-Fard, Manchon, and Patras, in particular the noncommutative Bohnenblust-Spitzer identity.
We introduce the notion of a matching Rota-Baxter algebra motivated by the recent work on multiple pre-Lie algebras arising from the study of algebraic renormalization of regularity structures~[10,18]. This notion is also related to iterated integrals with multiple kernels and solutions of the associative polarized Yang-Baxter equation. Generalizing the natural connection of Rota-Baxter algebras with dendriform algebras to matching Rota-Baxter algebras , we obtain the notion of matching dendriform algebras. As in the classical case of one operation, matching Rota-Baxter algebras and matching d…
In this paper, we first prove that a Rota-Baxter family algebra indexed by a semigroup induces an ordinary Rota-Baxter algebra structure on the tensor product with the semigroup algebra. We show that the same phenomenon arises for dendriform and tridendriform family algebras. Then we construct free dendriform family algebras in terms of typed decorated planar binary trees. Finally, we generalize typed decorated rooted trees to typed valently decorated Schröder trees and use them to construct free tridendriform family algebras.
In this paper we study the adjoint functors between the category of Rota-Baxter algebras and the categories of dendriform dialgebras and trialgebras. In analogy to the well-known theory of the adjoint functor between the category of associative algebras and Lie algebras, we first give an explicit construction of free Rota-Baxter algebras and then apply it to obtain universal enveloping Rota-Baxter algebras of dendriform dialgebras and trialgebras. We further show that free dendriform dialgebras and trialgebras, as represented by binary planar trees and planar trees, are canonical subalgebras o…
In this paper we study (associative) Nijenhuis algebras, with emphasis on the relationship between the category of Nijenhuis algebras and the categories of NS algebras. This is in analogy to the well-known theory of the adjoint functor from the category of Lie algebras to that of associative algebras, and the more recent results on the adjoint functor from the categories of dendriform and tridendriform algebras to that of Rota-Baxter algebras. We first give an explicit construction of free Nijenhuis algebras and then apply it to obtain the universal enveloping Nijenhuis algebra of an NS algebr…
We introduce a graded Hopf algebra based on the set of parking functions (hence of dimension (n+1)^{n-1} in degree n). This algebra can be embedded into a noncommutative polynomial algebra in infinitely many variables. We determine its structure, and show that it admits natural quotients and subalgebras whose graded components have dimensions respectively given by the Schroder numbers (plane trees), the Catalan numbers, and powers of 3. These smaller algebras are always bialgebras and belong to some family of di- or tri-algebras occuring in the works of Loday and Ronco. Moreover, the fundament…
We study Hom-type analogs of Rota-Baxter and dendriform algebras, called Rota-Baxter $G$-Hom-associative algebras and Hom-dendriform algebras. Several construction results are proved. Free algebras for these objects are explicitly constructed. Various functors between these categories, as well as an adjunction between the categories of Rota-Baxter Hom-associative algebras and of Hom-(tri)dendriform algebras, are constructed.
This paper introduces the braidings of dendriform algebras and tridendriform algebras. By studying free braided dendriform algebras, we obtain braidings of the Hopf algebras of Loday and Ronco of planar binary rooted trees. We also give a variation of the braiding of Foissy for the noncommutative Connes-Kreimer (a.k.a the Foissy-Holtkamp) Hopf algebra of planar rooted forests so that the well-known isomorphism between this Hopf algebra and the Loday-Ronco Hopf algebra is extended to the braided context. As free braided tridendriform algebras, we also give braided extension of the Hopf algebra …
We provide a refined approach to the classical Magnus and Fer expansion, unveiling a new structure by using the language of dendriform and pre-Lie algebras. The recursive formula for the logarithm of the solutions of the equations X=1+ta<X and Y=1-tY> a in A[[t]] is provided, where (A,<,>) is a dendriform algebra. Then, we present the solutions to these equations as an infinite product expansion of exponentials. Both formulae involve the pre-Lie product naturally associated with the dendriform structure. Several applications are presented.
In this paper an application of the recently introduced pre-Lie Magnus expansion to Jackson's q-integral and q-exponentials is presented. Twisted dendriform algebras, which are the natural algebraic framework for Jackson's q-analogues, are introduced for that purpose. It is shown how the pre-Lie Magnus expansion is used to solve linear q-differential equations. We also briefly outline the theory of linear equations in twisted dendriform algebras.
The Fuss-Catalan numbers are a generalization of the Catalan numbers. They enumerate a large class of objects and in particular m-Dyck paths and m+1-ary trees. Recently, F. Bergeron defined an analogue for generic m of the Tamari order on classical Dyck words. The author and J.-Y. Thibon showed that the combinatorial Hopf algebras related to these m-Tamari orders are defined thanks to the same monoid, the sylvester monoid, as in the m=1 case and that all related Hopf algebras also have m analogues. We present here the m-generalization of another construction on Catalan sets: the dendriform alg…
We endow the set of isomorphic classes of matroids with a new Hopf algebra structure, in which the coproduct is implemented via the combinatorial operations of restriction and deletion. We also initiate the investigation of dendriform coalgebra structures on matroids and introduce a monomial invariant which satisfy a convolution identity with respect to restriction and deletion.
We here both unify and generalize nonassociative structures on typed binary trees, that is to say plane binary trees which edges are decorated by elements of a set $Ω$. We prove that we obtain such a structure, called an $Ω$-dendriform structure, if $Ω$ has four products satisfying certain axioms (EDS axioms), including the axioms of a diassociative semigroup. This includes matching dendriform algebras introduced by Zhang, Gao and Guo and family dendriform algebras associated to a semigroup introduced by Zhang, Gao and Manchon , and of course dendriform algebras when $Ω$ is reduced to a single…
We investigate solutions for a particular class of linear equations in dendriform algebras. Motivations as well as several applications are provided. The latter follow naturally from the intimate link between dendriform algebras and Rota-Baxter operators, e.g. the Riemann integral or Jackson's q-integral.
Dendriform algebras form a category of algebras recently introduced by Loday. A dendriform algebra is a vector space endowed with two nonassociative binary operations satisfying some relations. Any dendriform algebra is an algebra over the dendriform operad, the Koszul dual of the diassociative operad. We introduce here, by adopting the point of view and the tools offered by the theory of operads, a generalization on a nonnegative integer parameter $γ$ of dendriform algebras, called $γ$-polydendriform algebras, so that $1$-polydendriform algebras are dendriform algebras. For that, we consider …
We introduce a simplicial object $(\{ \Dy^m\}_{m\geq 0}, {\mathbb F}_i, {\mathbb S}_j)$ in the category of non-symmetric algebraic operads, satisfying that $\Dy^0$ is the operad of associative algebras and $\Dy^1$ is J.-L. Loday\rq s operad of dendriform algebras. The dimensions of the operad $\Dy^m$ are given by the Fuss-Catalan numbers. Given a family of partially ordered sets ${\bold P}=\{P_n\}_{n\geq 1}$ we show that, under certain conditions, the vector space spanned by the set of $m$-simpleces of ${\bold P}$ is a $\Dy^m$ algebra. This construction, applied to certain combinatorial Hopf a…
We introduce, by adopting the point of view and the tools offered by the theory of operads, a generalization on a nonnegative integer parameter $γ$ of diassociative algebras of Loday, called $γ$-pluriassociative algebras. By Koszul duality of operads, we obtain a generalization of dendriform algebras, called $γ$-polydendriform algebras. In the same manner as dendriform algebras are suitable devices to split associative operations into two parts, $γ$-polydendriform algebras seem adapted structures to split associative operations into $2 γ$ operations so that some partial sums of these operation…
We study the free (associative, non-commutative) Baxter algebra on one generator. The first explicit description of this object is due to Ebrahimi-Fard and Guo. We provide an alternative description in terms of a certain class of trees, which form a linear basis for this algebra. We use this to treat other related cases, particularly that in which the Baxter map is required to be quasi-idempotent, in a unified manner. Each case corresponds to a different class of trees. Our main focus is on the underlying combinatorics. In several cases, we provide bijections between our various classes of tre…
We study P-Hopf algebras with one coassociative cooperation over different operads P. For example, we consider the Loday-Ronco dendriform Hopf algebra and its isomorphisms with the noncommutative planar Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra and with a Hopf algebra of Brouder and Frabetti. We focus on Hopf algebra structures over free operads, like the operad Mag freely generated by a non-commutative non-associative binary operation, and the operad of Stasheff polytopes. In order to describe the operads of primitive elements we prove an analogon of the Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem. We determine the gen…
The main ideas developed in this habilitation thesis consist in endowing combinatorial objects (words, permutations, trees, Young tableaux, etc.) with operations in order to construct algebraic structures. This process allows, by studying algebraically the structures thus obtained (changes of bases, generating sets, presentations, morphisms, representations), to collect combinatorial information about the underlying objects. The algebraic structures the most encountered here are magmas, posets, associative algebras, dendriform algebras, Hopf bialgebras, operads, and pros. This work explores th…
Motivated by q-shuffle products determined by Singer from q-analogues of multiple zeta values, we build in this article a generalisation of the shuffle and stuffle products in terms of weak shuffle and stuffle products. Then, we characterise weak shuffle products and give as examples the case of an alphabet of cardinality two or three. We focus on a comparison between algebraic structures respected in the classical case and in the weak case. As in the classical case, each weak shuffle product can be equipped with a dendriform structure. However, they have another behaviour towards the quadri-a…
Since its introduction by Loday in 1995 with motivation from algebraic K-theory, dendriform dialgebras have been studied quite extensively with connections to several areas in mathematics and physics. A few more similar structures have been found recently, such as the tri-, quadri-, ennea- and octo-algebras, with increasing complexity in their constructions and properties. We consider these constructions as operads and their products and duals, in terms of generators and relations, with the goal to clarify and simplify the process of obtaining new algebra structures from known structures and f…
In this paper we study the growth of the differential identities of some algebras with derivations, i.e., associative algebras where a Lie algebra $L$ (and its universal enveloping algebra $U(L)$) acts on them by derivations. In particular, we study in detail the differential identities and the cocharacter sequences of some algebras whose sequence of differential codimensions has polynomial growth. Moreover, we shall give a complete description of the differential identities of the algebra $UT_2$ of $2\times 2$ upper triangular matrices endowed with all possible action of a Lie algebra by deri…
Using cocommutativity of the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions, certain skew Schur functions are proved to be equal. Some of these skew Schur function identities are new.
Chen's lemma on iterated integrals implies that certain identities involving multiple integrals, such as the de Bruijn and Wick formulas, amount to combinatorial identities for Pfaffians and hafnians in shuffle algebras. We provide direct algebraic proofs of such shuffle identities, and obtain various generalizations. We also discuss some Pfaffian identities due to Sundquist and Ishikawa-Wakayama, and a Cauchy formula for anticommutative symmetric functions. Finally, we extend some of the previous considerations to hyperpfaffians and hyperhafnians.
We give a proof of a recent combinatorial conjecture due to the first author, which was discovered in the framework of commutative algebra. This result gives rise to new companions to the famous Andrews-Gordon identities. Our tools involve graded quotient rings, Durfee squares and rectangles for integer partitions, and $q$-series identities.
