We present a simple proof of the resolvent estimates of elliptic Fourier multipliers on the Euclidean space, and apply them to the analysis of time-global and spatially-local smoothing estimates of a class of dispersive equations. For this purpose we study in detail the properties of the restriction of Fourier transform on the unit cotangent sphere associated with the symbols of multipliers.
The purpose of this article is twofold. First we give a very robust method for proving sharp time decay estimates for the most classical three models of dispersive Partial Differential Equations, the wave, Klein-Gordon and Schr{ö}dinger equations, on curved geometries, showing under very general assumptions the exact same decay as for the Euclidean case. Then we also extend these decay properties to the case of boundary value problems.
This paper deals with global dispersive properties of Schrödinger equations with real-valued potentials exhibiting critical singularities, where our class of potentials is more general than inverse-square type potentials and includes several anisotropic potentials. We first prove weighted resolvent estimates, which are uniform with respect to the energy, with a large class of weight functions in Morrey-Campanato spaces. Uniform Sobolev inequalities in Lorentz spaces are also studied. The proof employs the iterated resolvent identity and a classical multiplier technique. As an application, the …
We establish the Kato-type smoothing property, i.e., global-in-time smoothing estimates with homogeneous weights, for the Schrödinger equation on Riemannian symmetric spaces of non-compact type and general rank. These form a rich class of manifolds with nonpositive sectional curvature and exponential volume growth at infinity, e.g., hyperbolic spaces. We achieve it by proving the Stein-Weiss inequality and the resolvent estimate of the corresponding Fourier multiplier, which are of independent interest. Moreover, we extend the comparison principles to symmetric spaces and deduce different type…
We extend several fundamental estimates regarding spectral multipliers for the free Laplacian on $\mathbb R^3$ to the case of perturbed Hamiltonians of the form $-Δ+V$, where $V$ is a scalar real-valued potential. In this paper, we prove resolvent estimates, a dispersive bound for the perturbed wave propagator, Mihlin multiplier and fractional integration bounds, and the full range of wave equation Strichartz estimates, under optimal or almost optimal scaling-invariant conditions on the potential and on the spectral multipliers themselves.
We consider the (viscosity) solution $u^\varepsilon$ of the elliptic equation $\varepsilon^2Δ_p^G u= u$ in a domain (not necessarily bounded), satisfying $u=1$ on its boundary. Here, $Δ_p^G$ is the {\it game-theoretic or normalized $p$-laplacian}. We derive asymptotic formulas for $\varepsilon\to 0^+$ involving the values of $u^\varepsilon$, in the spirit of Varadhan's work \cite{Va}, and its $q$-mean on balls touching the boundary, thus generalizing that obtained in \cite{MS-AM} for $p=q=2$. As in a related parabolic problem, investigated in \cite{BM}, we link the relevant asymptotic behavior…
In the first part of this work we study the local well-posedness of dispersive equations in the weighted spaces $H^s(\mathbb{R})\cap L^2(|x|^{2b}dx)$. We then apply our results for several dispersive models such as the Hirota-Satsuma system, the OST equation, the Kawahara equation and a fifth-order model. Using these local results, the second part of this work is devoted to obtain results related to dispersive blow up of the Kawahara equation and the Hirota-Satsuma system.
We investigate dispersive and Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger time evolution propagator $\mathrm{e}^{-\mathrm{i}tH}$ on a star-shaped metric graph. The linear operator, $H$, taken into consideration is the self-adjoint extension of the Laplacian, subject to a wide class of coupling conditions. The study relies on an explicit spectral representation of the solution in terms of the resolvent kernel which is further analyzed using results from oscillatory integrals. As an application, we obtain the global well-posedness for a class of semilinear Schrödinger equations.
We study the $L^1\to L^\infty$-decay estimates for dispersive equations in the Aharonov-Bohm magnetic fields, and further prove Strichartz estimates for the Klein-Gordon equation with critical electromagnetic potentials. The novel ingredients are the construction of Schwartz kernels of the spectral measure and heat propagator for the Schrödinger operator in Aharonov-Bohm magnetic fields. In particular, we explicitly construct the representation of the spectral measure and resolvent of the Schrödinger operator with Aharonov-Bohm potentials, and show that the heat kernel in critical electromagne…
We consider in this paper modified fractional Korteweg-de Vries and related equations (modified Burgers-Hilbert and Whitham). They have the advantage with respect to the usual fractional KdV equation to have a defocusing case with a different dynamics. We will distinguish the weakly dispersive case where the phase velocity is unbounded for low frequencies and tends to zero at infinity and the strongly dispersive case where the phase velocity vanishes at the origin and goes to infinity at infinity. In the former case, the nonlinear hyperbolic effects dominate for large data, leading to the poss…
In this paper we show that the local Kato type smoothing estimates are essentially equivalent to the global Kato type smoothing estimates for some class of dispersive equations including the Schrödinger equation. From this we immediately have two results as follows. One is that the known local Kato smoothing estimates are sharp. The sharp regularity ranges of the global Kato smoothing estimates are already known, but those of the local Kato smoothing estimates are not. Recently, Sun, Trélat, Zhang and Zhong have shown it only in spacetime $\mathbb R \times \mathbb R$. Our result resolves this …
We prove a limiting absorption principle for a generalized Helmholtz equation on an exterior domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions \begin{equation*} (L+λ)v=f, \qquad λ\in \mathbb{R} \end{equation*} under a Sommerfeld radiation condition at infinity. The operator $L$ is a second order elliptic operator with variable coefficients, the principal part is a small, long range perturbation of $-Δ$, while lower order terms can be singular and large. The main tool is a sharp uniform resolvent estimate, which has independent applications to the problem of embedded eigenvalues and to smoothing estima…

On a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, we prove a spectral inequality for the bi-Laplace operator in the case of so-called "clamped" boundary conditions , that is, homogeneous Dirichlet and Neumann conditions simultaneously. We also prove a resolvent estimate for the generator of the damped plate semigroup associated with these boundary conditions. The spectral inequality allows one to observe finite sums of eigenfunctions for this fourth-order elliptic operator, from an arbitrary open subset of the manifold. Moreover, the constant that appears in the inequality grows as exp(C$μ$ 1/4)…
In this paper, we establish a new criterion for the orbital stability of periodic waves related to a general class of regularized dispersive equations. More specifically, we present sufficient conditions for the stability without knowing the positiveness of the associated hessian matrix. As application of our method, we show the orbital stability for the fifth-order model. The orbital stability of periodic waves resulting from a minimization of a convenient functional is also proved.
In this paper, we consider $L^p$- estimate for a class of oscillatory integral operators satisfying the Carleson-Sjölin conditions with further convex and straight assumptions. As applications, the multiplier problem related to a general class of hypersurfaces with nonvanishing Gaussian curvature, local smoothing estimates for the fractional Schrödinger equation and the sharp resolvent estimates outside of the uniform boundedness range are discussed.
We study the $L^1-L^\infty$ dispersive estimate of the inhomogeneous fourth-order Schrödinger operator $H=Δ^{2}-Δ+V(x)$ with zero energy obstructions in $\mathbf{R}^{3}$. For the related propagator $e^{-itH}$, we prove that for $0<t\leq 1$, then $e^{-itH}P_{ac}(H)$ satisfies the $|t|^{-3/4}$-estimate. For $t>1$, we prove that:\,\, 1) if zero is a regular point of $H$, then $e^{-itH}P_{ac}(H)$ satisfies the $|t|^{-3/2}$- dispersive estimate.\,\, 2) if zero is a resonance of $H$, there exists a time dependent operator $F_{t}$ such that $e^{-itH}P_{ac}(H)-F_{t}$ satisfies the $|t|^{-3/2}$- disper…
In this paper we study the dispersive properties related to a model of peridynamic evolution, governed by a non local initial value problem, in the cases of two and three spatial dimensions. The features of the wave propagation characterized by the nontrivial interactions between nonlocality and the regimes of low and high frequencies are studied and suitable numerical investigations are exposed.
In this paper, we investigate the almost surely pointwise convergence problem of free KdV equation, free wave equation, free elliptic and non-elliptic Schrödinger equation respectively. We firstly establish some estimates related to the Wiener decomposition of frequency spaces which are just Lemmas 2.1-2.6 in this paper. Secondly, by using Lemmas 2.1-2.6, 3.1, we establish the probabilistic estimates of some random series which are just Lemmas 3.2-3.11 in this paper. Finally, combining the density theorem in L$^{2}$ with Lemmas 3.2-3.11, we obtain almost surely pointwise convergence of the sol…
Of concern is the a priori symmetry of traveling wave solutions for a general class of nonlocal dispersive equations \[ u_t +(u^2 +Lu)_x =0, \] where $L$ is a Fourier multiplier operator with symbol $m$. Our analysis includes both homogeneous and inhomogeneous symbols. We characterize a class of symbols $m$ guaranteeing that periodic traveling wave solutions are symmetric under a mild assumption on the wave profile. Particularly, instead of considering waves with a unique crest and trough per period or a monotone structure near troughs as classically imposed in the water wave problem, we formu…
We study the cut-off resolvent of semiclassical Schr{ö}dinger operators on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with bounded compactly supported potentials $V$. We prove that for real energies $λ^2$ in a compact interval in $\mathbb{R}_+$ and for any smooth cut-off function $χ$ supported in a ball near the support of the potential $V$, for some constant $C>0$, one has \begin{equation*} \| χ(-h^2Δ+ V-λ^2)^{-1} χ\|_{L^2\to H^1} \leq C \,\mathrm{e}^{Ch^{-4/3}\log \frac{1}{h} }. \end{equation*} This bound shows in particular an upper bound on the imaginary parts of the resonances $λ$, defined as a pole of the meromorph…
The present paper deals with sufficient conditions for orbital stability of periodic waves of a general class of evolution equations supporting nonlinear dispersive waves. Our method can be seen as an extension to spatially periodic waves of the theory of solitary waves recently developed in \cite{st}. Firstly, our main result do not depend on the parametrization of the periodic wave itself. Secondly, motived by the well known orbital stability criterion for solitary waves, we show that the same criterion holds for periodic waves. In addition, we show that the positiveness of the principal ent…
In this paper we continue our study on the Cauchy problem for the two-dimensional Novikov-Veselov (NV) equation, integrable via the inverse scattering transform for the two dimensional Schrödinger operator at a fixed energy parameter. This work is concerned with the case of positive energy. For the solution of the linearized equation we derive smoothing and Strichartz estimates by combining two different frequency regimes. At non-low frequencies we also derive improved smoothing estimates with gain of almost one derivative. We combine the linear estimates with the Fourier decomposition method …
