We study the $L^1\to L^\infty$-decay estimates for dispersive equations in the Aharonov-Bohm magnetic fields, and further prove Strichartz estimates for the Klein-Gordon equation with critical electromagnetic potentials. The novel ingredients are the construction of Schwartz kernels of the spectral measure and heat propagator for the Schrödinger operator in Aharonov-Bohm magnetic fields. In particular, we explicitly construct the representation of the spectral measure and resolvent of the Schrödinger operator with Aharonov-Bohm potentials, and show that the heat kernel in critical electromagnetic fields satisfies Gaussian boundedness. In future papers, this result on the spectral measure will be used to (i) study the uniform resolvent estimates, and (ii) prove the $L^p$-regularity property of wave propagation in the same setting.
We show a family of virial-type identities for the Schrödinger and wave equations with electromagnetic potentials. As a consequence, some weak dispersive inequalities in space dimension $n\geq3$, involving Morawetz and smoothing estimates, are proved; finally, we apply them to prove Strichartz inequalities for the wave equation with a non-trapping electromagnetic potential with almost Coulomb decay.
We prove global smoothing and Strichartz estimates for the Schroedinger, wave, Klein-Gordon equations and for the massless and massive Dirac systems, perturbed with singular electromagnetic potentials. We impose a smallness condition on the magnetic part, while the electric part can be large. The decay and regularity assumptions on the coefficients are close to critical.
We prove Strichartz estimates for the Schroedinger equation with an electromagnetic potential, in dimension $n\geq3$. The decay and regularity assumptions on the potentials are almost critical, i.e., close to the Coulomb case. In addition, we require repulsivity and a non trapping condition, which are expressed as smallness of suitable components of the potentials. However, the potentials themselves can be large, and we avoid completely any a priori spectral assumption on the operator. The proof is based on smoothing estimates and new Sobolev embeddings for spaces associated to magnetic potent…
The initial value problem for the homogeneous Schrödinger equation is investigated for radially symmetric initial data with slow decay rates and not too wild oscillations. Our global wellposedness results apply to initial data for which Strichartz estimates fail.
In this short note, we prove Strichartz estimates for Schrödinger operators with slowly decaying singular potentials in dimension two. This is a generalization of the recent results by Mizutani, which are stated for dimension greater than two. The main ingredient of the proof is a variant of Kato's smoothing estimate with a singular weight.
In this paper we derive time-decay and Strichartz estimates for the generalized Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation on the framework of modulation spaces $M^s_{p,q}.$ We use this results to analyze the existence of local and global solutions of the corresponding Cauchy problem with rough data in modulation spaces. The results improve known results in Sobolev spaces in some sense.
We prove Strichartz estimates (both regular and reversed) for a scattering state to the wave equation with a charge transfer Hamiltonian in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$: \[ \partial_{tt}u-Δu+\sum_{j=1}^{m}V_{j}\left(x-\vec{v}_{j}t\right)u=0. \] The energy estimate and the local energy decay of a scattering state are also established. In order to study nonlinear multisoltion systems, we will present the inhomogeneous generalizations of Strichartz estimates. As an application of our results, we show that scattering states indeed scatter to solutions to the free wave equation.
We prove weighted L^2 (Morawetz) estimates for the solutions of linear Schrodinger and wave equation with potentials that decay like |x|^{-2} for large x, by deducing them from estimates on the resolvent of the associated elliptic operator. We then deduce Strichartz estimates for these equations.
For Schrödinger equations with a class of slowly decaying repulsive potentials, we show that the solution satisfies global-in-time Strichartz estimates for any admissible pairs. Our admissible class of potentials includes the positive homogeneous potential $Z|x|^{-μ}$ with $Z>0$ and $0<μ<2$ in three and higher dimensions, especially the repulsive Coulomb potential. The proof employs several techniques from scattering theory such as the long time parametrix construction of Isozaki-Kitada type, propagation estimates and local decay estimates.
Strichartz estimates for a time-decaying harmonic oscillator were proven with some assumptions of coefficients for the time-decaying harmonic potentials. The main results of this paper are to remove these assumptions and to enable us to deal with the more general coefficient functions. Moreover, we also prove similar estimates for time-decaying homogeneous magnetic fields.
We study time decay estimates of the fourth-order Schrödinger operator $H=(-Δ)^{2}+V(x)$ in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ for $d=3$ and $d\geq5$. We analyze the low energy and high energy behaviour of resolvent $R(H; z)$, and then derive the Jensen-Kato dispersion decay estimate and local decay estimate for $e^{-itH}P_{ac}$ under suitable spectrum assumptions of $H$. Based on Jensen-Kato decay estimate and local decay estimate, we obtain the $L^1\rightarrow L^{\infty}$ estimate of $e^{-itH}P_{ac}$ in $3$-dimension by Ginibre argument, and also establish the endpoint global Strichartz estimates of $e^{-itH}…
Consider the relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system with initial data of unrestricted size. In the two dimensional and the two and a half dimensional cases, Glassey-Schaeffer (1997, 1998, 1998) proved that for regular initial data with compact momentum support this system has unique global in time classical solutions. In this work we do not assume compact momentum support for the initial data and instead require only that the data have polynomial decay in momentum space. In the 2D and the $2\frac 12$D cases, we prove the global existence, uniqueness and regularity for solutions arising from this c…
We consider the $3$-dimensional relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system with data without compact support in momentum space. We prove two continuation criteria for solutions to this system. First, we show that a regular solution can be continued if the integral of the electromagnetic field along any characteristic is assumed to be bounded. This can be viewed as a generalization of the classical result of Glassey-Strauss (1986) to data with non-compact momentum support. Second, we extend the methods in our companion paper (Part I) to show that a regular solution can be extended as long as $\|\pel_0^…
In this paper we consider Dirac operators in $\mathbb R^n$, $n\geq2$, with a potential $V$. Under mild decay and continuity assumptions on $V$ and some spectral assumptions on the operator, we prove a limiting absorption principle for the resolvent, which implies a family of Strichartz estimates for the linear Dirac equation. For large potentials the dynamical estimates are not an immediate corollary of the free case since the resolvent of the free Dirac operator does not decay in operator norm on weighted $L^2$ spaces as the frequency goes to infinity.
We prove Strichartz estimates for the Schroedinger operator $H = -Δ+ V(t,x)$ with time-periodic complex potentials $V$ belonging to the scaling-critical space $L^{n/2}_x L^\infty_t$ in dimensions $n \ge 3$. This is done directly from estimates on the resolvent rather than using dispersive bounds, as the latter generally require a stronger regularity condition than what is stated above. In typical fashion, we project onto the continuous spectrum of the operator and must assume an absence of resonances. Eigenvalues are permissible at any location in the spectrum, including at threshold energies,…
Quadratic repulsive potentials $- τ^2 |x| ^2$ accelerate the quantum particle, increasing the velocity of the particle exponentially in $t$; this phenomenon yields fast decaying dispersive estimates. In this study, we consider the Strichartz estimates associated with this phenomenon. First, we consider the free repulsive Hamiltonian, and prove that the Strichartz estimates hold for every admissible pair $(q,r)$, which satisfies $1/q +n/(2r) \geq n/4$ with $q$, $r \geq 2$. Second, we consider the perturbed repulsive Hamiltonian with a slowly decaying potential, such that $|V(x)| \leq C(1+|x|)^{…
Dispersive and Strichartz estimates for solutions to general strictly hyperbolic partial differential equations with constant coefficients are considered. The global time decay estimates of $L^p-L^q$ norms of propagators are obtained, and it is shown how the time decay rates depend on the geometry of the problem. The frequency space is separated in several zones each giving a certain decay rate. Geometric conditions on characteristics responsible for the particular decay are identified and investigated. Thus, a comprehensive analysis is carried out for strictly hyperbolic equations of high ord…
We establish dispersive and Strichartz estimates for solutions to the linear time-dependent Schrödinger equations with potential in three dimensions. Our main focus is on the small rough time-dependent potentials. Examples of such potentials are of the form $V(t,x)=T(t) V_0(x)$, where $T$ is quasiperiodic in time and $V_0$ is essentially an $L^{3/2}$ function of the spatial variables. We also prove the dispersive estimates for small time-independent potentials which belong to the interestion of the Rollnik and global Kato classes. Finally, we settle the question posed by Journe, Soffer, Sogge …
We obtain local energy decay as well as global Strichartz estimates for the solutions $u$ of the wave equation $\partial_t^2 u-div_x(a(t,x)\nabla_xu)=0,\ t\in{\R},\ x\in{\R}^n,$ with time-periodic non-trapping metric $a(t,x)$ equal to $1$ outside a compact set with respect to $x$. We suppose that the cut-off resolvent $R_χ(θ)=χ(\mathcal U(T, 0)-e^{-iθ})^{-1}χ$, where $\mathcal U(T, 0)$ is the monodromy operator and $T$ the period of $a(t,x)$, admits an holomorphic continuation to $\{θ\in\mathbb{C}\ :\ \textrm{Im}(θ) \geq 0\}$, for $n \geq 3$ , odd, and to $\{ θ\in\mathbb C\ :\ \textrm{Im}(θ)\g…
We study the Strichartz estimates for the magnetic Schrödinger equation in dimension $n\geq3$. More specifically, for all Schrödinger admissible pairs $(r,q)$, we establish the estimate $$ \|e^{itH}f\|_{L^{q}_{t}(\mathbb{R}; L^{r}_{x}(\mathbb{R}^n))} \leq C_{n,r,q,H} \|f\|_{L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)} $$ when the operator $H= -Δ_A +V$ satisfies suitable conditions. In the purely electric case $A\equiv0$, we extend the class of potentials $V$ to the Fefferman-Phong class. In doing so, we apply a weighted estimate for the Schrödinger equation developed by Ruiz and Vega. Moreover, for the endpoint estimat…
The present paper is concerned with Schrödinger equations with variable coefficients and unbounded electromagnetic potentials, where the kinetic energy part is a long-range perturbation of the flat Laplacian and the electric (resp. magnetic) potential can grow subquadratically (resp. sublinearly) at spatial infinity. We prove sharp (local-in-time) Strichartz estimates, outside a large compact ball centered at origin, for any admissible pair including the endpoint. Under the nontrapping condition on the Hamilton flow generated by the kinetic energy, global-in-space estimates are also studied. F…
The purpose of this note is to present an alternative proof of a result by H. Smith and C. Sogge showing that in odd dimension of space, local (in time) Strichartz estimates and exponential decay of the local energy for solutions to wave equations imply global Strichartz estimates. Our proof allows to extend the result to the case of even dimensions of space
We show global-in-time Strichartz estimates for the isotropic Maxwell system with divergence free data. On the scalar permittivity and permeability we impose decay assumptions as $|x|\to\infty$ and a non-trapping condition. The proof is based on smoothing estimates in weighted $L^2$ spaces which follow from corresponding resolvent estimates for the underlying Helmholtz problem.
In space dimension $n\geq3$, we consider the magnetic Schrödinger Hamiltonian $H=-(\nabla-iA(x))^2$ and the corresponding Schrödinger equation i\partial_tu+Hu=0. We show some explicit examples of potentials $A$, with less than Coulomb decay, for which any solution of this equation cannot satisfy Strichartz estimates, in the whole range of Schrödinger admissibility.
We study linear Klein-Gordon equations with moving potentials motivated by the stability analysis of traveling waves and multi-solitons. In this paper, Strichartz estimates, local energy decay and the scattering theory for these models are established. The results and estimates obtained in this paper will be used to study the interaction of solitons and the stability of multisolitons of nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations.
We prove Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger equation in $\mathbb R^n$, $n\geq 3$, with a Hamiltonian $H = -Δ+ μ$. The perturbation $μ$ is a compactly supported measure in $\mathbb R^n$ with dimension $α> n-(1+\frac{1}{n-1})$. The main intermediate step is a local decay estimate in $L^2(μ)$ for both the free and perturbed Schrödinger evolution.
We study the dispersive properties of the Schrödinger equation. Precisely, we look for estimates which give a control of the local regularity and decay at infinity {\it separately}. The Banach spaces that allow such a treatment are the Wiener amalgam spaces, and Strichartz-type estimates are proved in this framework. These estimates improve some of the classical ones in the case of large time.
We show that the time evolution of the operator $H = -Δ+ i(A \cdot \nabla + \nabla \cdot A) + V$ in R^3 satisfies Strichartz and smoothing estimates under suitable smoothness and decay assumptions on A and V but without any smallness assumptions. We require that zero energy is neither an eigenvalue nor a resonance.
In this paper, we study the extremal problem for the Strichartz inequality for the Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb{R}^2$. We show that the solutions to the associated Euler-Lagrange equation are exponentially decaying in the Fourier space and thus can be extended to be complex analytic. Consequently we provide a new proof to the characterization of the extremal functions: the only extremals are Gaussian functions, which was investigated previously by Foschi and Hundertmark-Zharnitsky.
In this paper we study the Strichartz estimates for the Schrödinger propagator in the context of Wiener amalgam spaces which, unlike the Lebesgue spaces, control the local regularity of a function and its decay at infinity separately. This separability makes it possible to perform a finer analysis of the local and global behavior of the propagator. Our results improve some of the classical ones in the case of large time.
We establish a mixed-norm Strichartz type estimate for the wave equation on Riemannian manifolds $(Ω,g)$, for the case that $Ω$ is the exterior of a smooth, normally hyperbolic trapped obstacle in $n$ dimensional Euclidean space, and $n$ is a positive odd integer. As for the normally hyperbolic trapped obstacles, we will some loss of derivatives for data in the local energy decay estimate. Hence the global Strichartz estimate has a derivative loss. However, we can show that the forcing term is bounded by the sum of no more than two Lebesgue $(p,q)$ mixed norms.
In this paper we show a general Strichartz estimate for certain perturbed wave equation, and here we can drop the nontrapping hypothesis and handle trapping obstacles with some loss of derivatives for data in the local energy decay estimates. Then we give the obstacle version of sharp life span for semilinear wave equations when $n=3,p<p_c$, by using a real interpolation method, and by getting a corresponding finite time Strichartz estimates(see section 3). Finally, as an application of the general Strichartz estimates we have gained, we get the Strauss conjecture for semilinear wave equations…
We prove Strichartz estimates for the absolutely continuous evolution of a Schrödinger operator $H = (i\nabla + A)^2 + V$ in $\R^n$, $n > 2$. Both the magnetic and electric potentials are time-independent and satisfy pointwise polynomial decay bounds. The vector potential $A(x)$ is assumed to be continuous but need not possess any Sobolev regularity. This work is a refinement of previous methods, which required extra conditions on ${\rm div} A$ or $|\nabla|^{\frac12}A$ in order to place the first order part of the perturbation within a suitable class of pseudo-differential operators.
In this paper we obtain some new Strichartz estimates for the Dirac flow in the context of Wiener amalgam spaces which control the local regularity of a function and its decay at infinity separately unlike $L^p$ spaces. While it is well understood recently for some flows such as the Schrödinger and wave flows that work in the non-relativistic regime, nothing is known about the Dirac flow which governs a physical system in the case of relativistic fields.
The purpose of this paper is to show how local energy decay estimates for certain linear wave equations involving compact perturbations of the standard Laplacian lead to optimal global existence theorems for the corresponding small amplitude nonlinear wave equations with power nonlinearities. To achieve this goal, at least for spatial dimensions $n=3$ and 4, we shall show how the aforementioned linear decay estimates can be combined with "abstract Strichartz" estimates for the free wave equation to prove corresponding estimates for the perturbed wave equation when $n\ge3$. As we shall see, we …
We prove global weighted Strichartz estimates for radial solutions of linear Schrödinger equation on a class of rotationally symmetric noncompact manifolds, generalizing the known results on hyperbolic and Damek-Ricci spaces. This yields classical Strichartz estimates with a larger class of exponents than in the Euclidian case and improvements for the scattering theory. The manifolds, whose volume element grows polynomially or exponentially at infinity, are characterized essentially by negativity conditions on the curvature, which shows in particular that the rich algebraic structure of the Hy…
For the linear damped wave equation (DW), the $L^p$-$L^q$ type estimates have been well studied. Recently, Watanabe showed the Strichartz estimates for DW when $d=2,3$. In the present paper, we give Strichartz estimates for DW in higher dimensions. Moreover, by applying the estimates, we give the local well-posedness of the energy critical nonlinear damped wave equation (NLDW) $\partial_t^2 u - Δu +\partial_t u = |u|^{\frac{4}{d-2}}u$, $(t,x) \in [0,T) \times \mathbb{R}^d$, where $3 \leq d \leq 5$. Especially, we show the small data global existence for NLDW. In addition, we investigate the be…
In this paper, we study nonlinear Helmholtz equations (NLH) $-Δ_{\mathbb{H}^N} u - \frac{(N-1)^2}{4} u -λ^2 u = Γ|u|^{p-2}u$ in $\mathbb{H}^N$, $N\geq 2$ where $Δ_{\mathbb{H}^N}$ denotes the Laplace-Beltrami operator in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^N$ and $Γ\in L^\infty(\mathbb{H}^N)$ is chosen suitably. Using fixed point and variational techniques, we find nontrivial solutions to (NLH) for all $λ>0$ and $p>2$. The oscillatory behaviour and decay rates of radial solutions is analyzed, with possible extensions to Cartan-Hadamard manifolds and Damek-Ricci spaces. Our results rely on a new Li…
In this paper we consider magnetic Schrödinger operators in R^n, n \ge 3. Under almost optimal conditions on the potentials in terms of decay and regularity we prove smoothing and Strichartz estimates, as well as a limiting absorption principle. For large gradient perturbations the latter is not a corollary of the free case as the differentiated free resolvent does not have small operator norm on any weighted L^2 spaces. We instead show that the spectral radius of such operators decreases to zero, hence their perturbation of the identity is still invertible. The key estimates are based on an a…
We establish sharp time decay estimates for the the Klein-Gordon equation on the cubic lattice in dimensions $d=2,3,4$. The $\ell^1\to\ell^{\infty}$ dispersive decay rate is $|t|^{-3/4}$ for $d=2$, $|t|^{-7/6}$ for $d=3$ and $|t|^{-3/2}\log|t|$ for $d=4$. These decay rates are faster than conjectured by Kevrekidis and Stefanov (2005). The proof relies on oscillatory integral estimates and proceeds by a detailed analysis of the the singularities of the associated phase function. We also prove new Strichartz estimates and discuss applications to nonlinear PDEs and spectral theory.
In this paper, we prove the exponential decay of local energy for the Klein-Gordon equation with localized critical nonlinearity. The proof relies on generalized Strichartz estimates, and semi-group of Lax-Phillips.
We construct multisoliton solutions to the defocusing energy critical wave equation with potentials in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$ based on regular and reversed Strichartz estimates developed in \cite{GC3} for wave equations with charge transfer Hamiltonians. We also show the asymptotic stability of multisoliton solutions. The multisoliton structures with both stable and unstable solitons are covered. Since each soliton decays slowly with rate $\frac{1}{\left\langle x\right\rangle }$, the interactions among the solitons are strong. Some reversed Strichartz estimates and local decay estimates for the char…
Strichartz estimates are a manifestation of a dispersion phenomenon, exhibited by certain partial differential equations, which is detected by suitable Lebesgue space norms. In most cases the evolution propagator $U(t)$ is a one parameter group of unitary operators. Motivated by the importance of decay estimates in group representation theory and ergodic theory, Strichartz-type estimates seem worth investigating when $U(t)$ is replaced by a unitary representation of a non-compact Lie group, the group element playing the role of time. Since the Schrödinger group is a subgroup of the metaplectc …
We establish new Strichartz estimates for orthonormal families of initial data in the case of the wave, Klein-Gordon and fractional Schrödinger equations. Our estimates extend those of Frank-Sabin in the case of the wave and Klein-Gordon equations, and generalize work of Frank-Lewin-Lieb-Seiringer and Frank-Sabin for the Schrödinger equation. Due to a certain technical barrier, except for the classical Schrödinger equation, the Strichartz estimates for orthonormal families of initial data have not previously been established up to the sharp summability exponents in the full range of admissible…
We establish Strichartz estimates (both reversed and some direct ones), pointwise decay estimates, and weighted decay estimates for the linear wave equation in dimension two with an almost scaling-critical potential, in the case when there is no resonance or eigenvalue at the edge of the spectrum. We also prove some simple nonlinear applications.
We investigate a class of sharp Fourier extension inequalities on the planar curves $s=|y|^p$, $p>1$. We identify the mechanism responsible for the possible loss of compactness of nonnegative extremizing sequences, and prove that extremizers exist if $1<p<p_0$, for some $p_0>4$. In particular, this resolves the dichotomy of Jiang, Pausader & Shao concerning the existence of extremizers for the Strichartz inequality for the fourth order Schrödinger equation in one spatial dimension. One of our tools is a geometric comparison principle for $n$-fold convolutions of certain singular measures in $\…
We prove local smoothing, local energy decay and weighted Strichartz inequalities for fractional Schrödinger equations with a Aharonov-Bohm magnetic field in 2D. Explicit representations of the flows in terms of spherical expansions of the Hamiltonians are involved in the study. An improvement of the free estimate is proved, when the total flux of the magnetic field through the unit sphere is not an integer.
