We show a family of virial-type identities for the Schrödinger and wave equations with electromagnetic potentials. As a consequence, some weak dispersive inequalities in space dimension $n\geq3$, involving Morawetz and smoothing estimates, are proved; finally, we apply them to prove Strichartz inequalities for the wave equation with a non-trapping electromagnetic potential with almost Coulomb decay.
We extend to general dimension $n\ge1$ the virial identity proved by Boussaid-D'Ancona-Fanelli for the 3D magnetic Dirac equation. As an application we deduce smoothing and Strichartz estimates for an $n$-dimensional Dirac equation perturbed with a magnetic potential.
We prove bilinear virial identities for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation, which are extensions of the Morawetz interaction inequalities. We recover and extend known bilinear improvements to Strichartz inequalities and provide applications to various nonlinear problems, most notably on domains with boundaries.
We analyze the dispersive properties of a Dirac system perturbed with a magnetic field. We prove a general virial identity; as applications, we obtain smoothing and endpoint Strichartz estimates which are optimal from the decay point of view. We also prove a Hardy-type inequality for the perturbed Dirac operator.
In this paper we review the Heisenberg uncertainty principle in a discrete setting and, as in the classical uncertainty principle, we give it a dynamical sense related to the discrete Schrödinger equation. We study the convergence of the relation to the classical uncertainty principle, and, as a counterpart, we also obtain another discrete uncertainty relation that does not have an analogous form in the continuous case. Moreover, in the case of the Discrete Fourier Transform, we give a inequality that allows us to relate the minimizer to the Gaussian.
We consider the generalized Good-Boussinesq model in one dimension, with power nonlinearity and data in the energy space $H^1\times L^2$. This model has solitary waves with speeds $-1<c<1$. When $|c|$ approaches 1, Bona and Sachs showed orbital stability of such waves. It is well-known from a work of Liu that for small speeds solitary waves are unstable. In this paper we consider in more detail the long time behavior of zero speed solitary waves, or standing waves. By using virial identities, in the spirit of Kowalczyk, Martel and Muñoz, we construct and characterize a manifold of even-odd ini…
In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the energy-critical inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation with inverse-square potential \[iu_{t} +Δu-c|x|^{-2}u=λ|x|^{-b} |u|^{σ} u,\; u(0)=u_{0} \in H^{1},\;(t,x)\in \mathbb R\times\mathbb R^{d},\] where $d\ge3$, $λ=\pm1$, $0<b<2$, $σ=\frac{4-2b}{d-2}$ and $c>-c(d):=-\left(\frac{d-2}{2}\right)^{2}$. We first prove the local well-posedness as well as small data global well-posedness and scattering in $H^{1}$ for $c>-\frac{(d+2-2b)^{2}-4}{(d+2-2b)^{2}}c(d)$ and $0<b<\frac{4}{d}$, by using the contraction mapping principle based on the Strich…
In this paper we prove that all small, uniformly in time $L^1\cap H^1$ bounded solutions to KdV and related perturbations must converge to zero, as time goes to infinity, locally in an increasing-in-time region of space of order $t^{1/2}$ around any compact set in space. This set is included in the linearly dominated dispersive region $x\ll t$. Moreover, we prove this result independently of the well-known supercritical character of KdV scattering. In particular, no standing breather-like nor solitary wave structures exists in this particular regime. For the proof, we make use of well-chosen w…
In this paper, we study the soliton resolution conjecture for Type II singular solutions $\overrightarrow{u}(t)$ to the focusing energy critical wave equation in $R^d\times [0,T_+)$, with $3\leq d\leq 5$. Suppose that $u$ has a singularity at $(x,t)=(0,T_+)$, we show that along a sequence of times $t_n\uparrow T_+$ and in a neighborhood of $(0,T_+)$, $\overrightarrow{u}(t_n)$ can be decomposed as the sum of a regular part in the energy space, a finite combination of modulated solitons (translation, scaling and Lorentz transform of steady states) and a residue term which goes to zero in the Str…
In this paper we give a unified proof to the soliton resolution conjecture along a sequence of times, for the semilinear focusing energy critical wave equations in the radial case and two dimensional equivariant wave map equations, including the four dimensional radial Yang Mills equation, without using outer energy type inequalities. Such inequalities have played a crucial role in previous works with similar results. Roughly speaking, we prove that along a sequence of times approaching the maximal time of existence, the solution decouples to a sum of rescaled solitons and a term vanishing in …
In this paper, we consider the following nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation \begin{align*} \partial_{tt}u-Δu+u=|u|^{p-1}u,\qquad t\in \mathbb{R},\ x\in \mathbb{R}^d, \end{align*} with $1<p< 1+\frac{4}{d}$. The equation has the standing wave solutions $u_ω=e^{iωt}ϕ_ω$ with the frequency $ω\in(-1,1)$, where $ϕ_ω$ obeys \begin{align*} -Δϕ+(1-ω^2)ϕ-ϕ^p=0. \end{align*} It was proved by Shatah (1983), and Shatah, Strauss (1985) that there exists a critical frequency $ω_c\in (0,1)$ such that the standing waves solution $u_ω$ is orbitally stable when $ω_c<|ω|<1$, and orbitally unstable when $|ω|<ω_c$. Fu…
This paper proposes a fairly general new point of view on the question of asymptotic stability of (topological) solitons. Our approach is based on the use of the distorted Fourier transform at the nonlinear level; it does not rely on Strichartz or virial estimates and is therefore able to treat low power nonlinearities (hence also non-localized solitons) and capture the global (in space and time) behavior of solutions. More specifically, we consider quadratic nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations with a potential in one space dimension. The potential is assumed to be regular, decaying, and either g…
