A recent paper [M. Seevinck and J. Uffink, Phys. Rev. A 65, 012107 (2002)] presented a bound for the three-qubit Mermin inequality such that the violation of this bound indicates genuine three-qubit entanglement. We show that this bound can be improved for a specific choice of observables. In particular, if spin observables corresponding to orthogonal directions are measured at the qubits (e.g., X and Y spin coordinates) then the bound is the same as the bound for states with a local hidden variable model. As a consequence, it can straightforwardly be shown that in the experiment described by J.-W. Pan et al. [Nature 403, 515 (2000)] genuine three-qubit entanglement was detected.
Recently, Yan and Gao proposed a quantum secret sharing protocol between multiparty ($m$ members in group 1) and multiparty ($n$ members in group 2) using a sequence of single photons (Phys. Rev. A \textbf{72}, 012304 (2005)). We find that it is secure if the quantum signal transmitted is only a single photon but insecure with a multi-photon signal as some agents can get the information about the others' message if they attack the communication with a Trojan horse. However, security against this attack can be attained with a simple modification.
In this paper we introduce a criterion for the characterization of Entanglement Witness for multipartite quantum systems. Our approach is based on the characterization of the "tangent space" to the set of pure product states.
We show that the monogamy of entanglement is a sufficient phenomenon in every physical theory, if the quantum key distribution is to be safe on the grounds of such theory. To do so we present the QKD protocol that is safe in any physical theory under the assumption of the monogamous entanglement only. The necessity of this condition is also discussed.
Necessary and sufficient conditions for bipartite entanglement are derived, which apply to arbitrary Hilbert spaces. Motivated by the concept of witnesses, optimized entanglement inequalities are formulated solely in terms of arbitrary Hermitian operators, which makes them useful for applications in experiments. The needed optimization procedure is based on a separability eigenvalue problem, whose analytical solutions are derived for a special class of projection operators. For general Hermitian operators, a numerical implementation of entanglement tests is proposed. It is also shown how to id…
In this paper we give the new sufficient conditions of entanglement for multipartite qubit density matrixes. We discuss in detail the case for tripartite qubit density matrixes. As a criterion in concrete application, its steps are quite simple and easy to operate. Some examples and discussions are given. PACC numbers: 03.67.Mn, 03.65.Ud, 03.67.Hk.
We present an inequality for detecting entanglement and distillability of arbitrary dimensional bipartite systems. This inequality provides a sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite mixed states, and a necessary and sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite pure states. Moreover, the inequality also gives a necessary and sufficient condition for distillability.
The characterization of genuine multiparticle entanglement is important for entanglement theory as well as experimental studies related to quantum information theory. Here, we completely characterize genuine multiparticle entanglement for four-qubit states diagonal in the cluster-state basis. In addition, we give a complete characterization of multiparticle entanglement for all five-qubit graph states mixed with white noise, for states diagonal in the basis corresponding to the five-qubit Y-shaped graph, and for a family of graph states with an arbitrary number of qubits.
Great advances have been achieved in studying characteristics of entanglement for fundamentals of quantum mechanics and quantum information processing. However, even for N-qubit systems, the problem of entanglement criterion has not been well solved. In this Letter, using the method of state decomposition and high order singular value decomposition (HOSVD), we propose a necessary and sufficient entanglement criterion for general N-qubit systems. As an example, we apply our method to study the multi-qubit W state with white noise. We not only obtain the separability critical point, which is tig…
An important measure of bipartite entanglement is the entanglement of formation, which is defined as the minimum average pure state entanglement of all decompositions realizing a given state. A decomposition which achieves this minimum is called an optimal decomposition. However, as for the entanglement of formation, there is not much known about the structure of such optimal decompositions, except for some special cases, like states of two qubits or isotropic states. Here we present a necessary and sufficient condition for a set of pure states of a finite dimensional bipartite system to form …
We derive criterion in the form of inequality based on quantum Fisher information and quantum variance to detect multipartite entanglement. It can be regarded as complementary of the well-established PPT criterion in the sense that it can also detect bound entangled states. The inequality is motivated by Y.Akbari-Kourbolagh $et\ al.$[Phys. Rev A. 99, 012304 (2019)] which introduced a multipartite entanglement criterion based on quantum Fisher information. Our criterion is experimentally measurable for detecting any $N$-qudit pure state mixed with white noisy. We take several examples to illust…
Physical transformations are described by linear maps that are completely positive and trace preserving (CPTP). However, maps that are positive (P) but not completely positive (CP) are instrumental to derive separability/entanglement criteria. Moreover, the properties of such maps can be linked to entanglement properties of the states they detect. Here, we extend the results presented in [Phys. Rev A 93, 042335 (2016)], where sufficient separability criteria for bipartite systems were derived. In particular, we analyze the entanglement depth of an $N$-qubit system by proposing linear maps that…
We point out a loophole problem in some recent experimental claims to produce three-particle entanglement. The problem consists in the question whether mixtures of two-particle entangled states might suffice to explain the experimental data. In an attempt to close this loophole, we review two sufficient conditions that distinguish between N-particle states in which all N particles are entangled to each other and states in which only M particles are entangled (with M<N). It is shown that three recent experiments to obtain three-particle entangled states (Bouwmeester et al., Pan et al., and Raus…
We present an intuitive geometrical entanglement criterion. It allows formulation of simple and experimentally friendly sufficient conditions for entanglement. The conditions are illustrated with several examples. Moreover, a generalization of our approach is a necessary and sufficient separability condition. It can be associated with a family of entanglement identifiers, which is strictly richer than the family of entanglement witnesses.
We introduce a simple sufficient criterion, which allows one to tell whether a subspace of a bipartite or multipartite Hilbert space is entangled. The main ingredient of our criterion is a bound on the minimal entanglement of a subspace in terms of entanglement of vectors spanning that subspace expressed for geometrical measures of entanglement. The criterion is applicable to both completely and genuinely entangled subspaces. We explore its usefulness in several important scenarios. Further, an entanglement criterion for mixed states following directly from the condition is stated. As an auxil…
Based on the general form of entanglement witnesses constructed from separable states, we first show a sufficient condition of violating the structural physical approximation (SPA) conjecture [Phys. Rev. A 78, 062105 (2008)]. Then we discuss the SPA conjecture for decomposable entanglement witnesses. Moreover, we make geometric illustrations of the connection between entanglement witnesses and the sets of quantum states, separable states, and entangled states comparing with planes and vectors in Euclidean space.
In this paper, we show that an arbitrary separable state can be the output of a certain entanglement-breaking channel corresponding exactly to the input of a maximally entangled state. A necessary and sufficient separability criterion and some sufficient separability criteria from entanglement-breaking channels are given.
A Multipartite entangled state has many different kinds of entanglement specified by the number of partitions. The most essential example of multipartite entanglement is the entanglement of multi-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state in white noise. We explicitly construct the entanglement witnesses for these states with stabilizer generators of the GHZ states. For a $N$ qubit GHZ state in white noise, we demonstrate the necessary and sufficient criterion of separability when it is divided into $k$ parties with $N\leq 2k-1$ for arbitrary $N$ and $k$. The criterion covers more than a ha…
Necessary and sufficient observable conditions for the nonnegativity of all partial transpositions of multi-mode quantum states are derived. The result is a hierarchy of inequalities for minors in terms of moments of the given state. Violations of any inequality is a sufficient condition for entanglement. Full entanglement can be certified for a manifold of multi-mode quantum states. A \textit{Mathematica} package is given for a systematic test of the hierarchy of conditions.
High-dimensional encoding of quantum information provides a promising method of transcending current limitations in quantum communication. One of the central challenges in the pursuit of such an approach is the certification of high-dimensional entanglement. In particular, it is desirable to do so without resorting to inefficient full state tomography. Here, we show how carefully constructed measurements in two bases (one of which is not orthonormal) can be used to faithfully and efficiently certify bipartite high-dimensional states and their entanglement for any physical platform. To showcase…
We derive sufficient conditions for infinite-dimensional systems whose entanglement is not completely lost in a finite time during its decoherence by a passive interaction with local vacuum environments. The sufficient conditions allow us to clarify a class of bipartite entangled states which preserve their entanglement or, in other words, are tolerant against decoherence in a vacuum. We also discuss such a class for entangled qubits.
We derive spin squeezing inequalities that generalize the concept of the spin squeezing parameter and provide necessary and sufficient conditions for genuine 2-, or 3- qubit entanglement for symmetric states, and sufficient condition for general states of $N$ qubits. Our inequalities have a clear physical interpretation as entanglement witnesses, can be relatively easy measured, and are given by complex, but {\it elementary} expressions.
We provide a method to construct entanglement criteria for arbitrary multipartite systems of discrete or continuous variables and hybrid combinations of both. While any set of local operators generates a sufficient condition for entanglement of arbitrary quantum states, a suitable set leads to a necessary and sufficient criterion for pure states. The criteria are readily implementable with existing technology and reveal entanglement that remains undetected by the respective state-of-the-art methods for discrete and continuous variables.
A new criterion necessary and sufficient for the separability of pure bipartite systems for arbitrary finite dimensions is demonstrated; and the corresponding finer quantitative measures or characterizations of entanglement (beyond mere separability or non-separability determination) are discussed. Based on this criterion, we proved that the well-known Peres-Horodecki positivity-of-partial-transform criterion is also necessary and sufficient for separability in the case of pure bipartite systems. The maximum value of entanglement, and the corresponding maximally-entangled states are also worke…
We transform the way of finding entanglement criterion into two steps: to obtain necessary criterion of separability by maximizing an algebra function for a set of characteristic variables of the witness operator and the given number of partitions, then to obtain the sufficient criterion by minimizing an algebra function with respect to the characteristic variables for a given quantum state. Our method avoids the semi-definite program calculation in the witness operator entanglement detection. The necessary and sufficient criterion of separability for the three qubit X shaped state is given to…
Recently, a sufficient condition on the structure of the Kossakowski-Lindblad master equation has been given such that the generated reduced dynamics of two qubits results entangling for at least one among their initial separable pure states. In this paper we study to which extent this condition is also necessary. Further, we find sufficient conditions for bath-mediated entanglement generation in higher dimensional bipartite open quantum systems.
The Bell theorem expresses that quantum mechanics is not a local-realistic theory, which is often interpreted as nonlocality of the nature. This result has led to this belief that nonlocality and entanglement are the same resources. However, this belief has been critically challenged in the literature. Here, we reexamine the relation between nonlocality and entanglement in light of the Brassard-Cleve-Tapp (BCT) model, which was originally proposed for simulating quantum correlation of Bell's states by using shared random variables augmented by classical communications. We derive a new criterio…
The structural physical approximation (SPA) to a positive map is considered to be one of the most important method to detect entanglement in the real physical world. We first show that an arbitrary entanglement witness (EW) $W$ can be constructed from a separable density matrix $σ$ in the form of $W=σ-c_σ I$, where $c_σ$ is a non-negative number and $I$ is the identity matrix. Following the general form of EWs from separable states, we show a sufficient condition and a sufficient and necessary condition in low dimensions of that SPAs to positive maps do not define entanglement-breaking channel…
We introduce an operational procedure to determine, with arbitrary probability and accuracy, optimal entanglement witness for every multipartite entangled state. This method provides an operational criterion for separability which is asymptotically necessary and sufficient. Our results are also generalized to detect all different types of multipartite entanglement.
It is shown that, if the loss of entanglement along a quantum channel is sufficiently small, then approximate quantum error correction is possible, thereby generalizing what happens for coherent information. Explicit bounds are obtained for the entanglement of formation and the distillable entanglement, and their validity naturally extends to other bipartite entanglement measures in between. Robustness of derived criteria is analyzed and their tightness compared. Finally, as a byproduct, we prove a bound quantifying how large the gap between entanglement of formation and distillable entangleme…
We find a sufficient condition to imprint the single-mode bosonic phase-space nonclassicality onto a bipartite state as modal entanglement and vice versa using an arbitrary beam splitter. Surprisingly, the entanglement produced or detected in this way depends only on the nonclassicality of the marginal input or output states, regardless of their purity and separability. In this way, our result provides a sufficient condition for generating entangled states of arbitrary high temperature and arbitrary large number of particles. We also study the evolution of the entanglement within a lossy Mach-…
With a two step optimization method of entanglement witness, we analytically propose a set of necessary and sufficient entanglement criteria for four qubit symmetric Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) diagonal states. The criterion set contains four criteria. Two of them are linear with density matrix elements. The other two criteria are nonlinear with density matrix elements. The criterion set has a nest structure. A proper subset of the criteria is necessary and sufficient for the entanglement of a proper subset of the states. We illustrate the nest structure of criterion set with the general…
We examine the powers of entanglement-assisted transformation and multiple-copy entanglement transformation. First, we find a sufficient condition of when a given catalyst is useful in producing another specific target state. As an application of this condition, for any non-maximally entangled bipartite pure state and any integer $n$ not less than 4, we are able to explicitly construct a set of $n\times n$ quantum states which can be produced by using the given state as a catalyst. Second, we prove that for any positive integer $k$, entanglement-assisted transformation with $k\times k$-dimensi…
We provide a class of inequalities for detecting entanglements in multi-mode systems. Necessary conditions for fully separable, bi-separable and sufficient conditions for fully entangled states are explicitly presented.
This is a comment on articles Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 240401 (2017) [arXiv:1707.06050] and Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 240402 (2017) [arXiv:1707.06036]. We argue that gravity-induced entanglement by Newtonian forces is agnostic to the quantum or classical nature of the gravitational true degrees of freedom.
The sufficient condition of entanglement enhanced classical capacity is given for Pauli memory channel with arbitrary channel parameters. In some special case the condition is also necessary but fail to be necessary in general. The theory of majorization and perturbation are used in the proving.
It is shown that a criterion used to demonstrate realization of the 1935 Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) gedanken experiment is sufficient to demonstrate quantum entanglement. A further set of measurable criteria sufficient to demonstrate EPR gedanken experiment is proposed, these being the set of criteria sufficient to demonstrate entanglement, by way of a measured violation of a necessary condition of separability. In this way, provided the spatial separation of systems is sufficient to ensure EPR's locality hypothesis, it is shown how a measured demonstration of entanglement will, at least, b…
In the present paper we study the entanglement properties of thermal (a.k.a. Gibbs) states of quantum harmonic oscillator systems as functions of the Hamiltonian and the temperature. We prove the physical intuition that at sufficiently high temperatures the thermal state becomes fully separable and we deduce bounds on the critical temperature at which this happens. We show that the bound becomes tight for a wide class of Hamiltonians with sufficient translation symmetry. We find, that at the crossover the thermal energy is of the order of the energy of the strongest normal mode of the system a…
We investigate genuine multipartite entanglement in general multipartite systems. Based on the norms of the correlation tensors of a multipartite state under various partitions, we present an analytical sufficient criterion for detecting the genuine four-partite entanglement. The results are generalized to arbitrary multipartite systems.
It is shown that the dissonance, a quantum correlation which is equal to quantum discord for separable state, is required for assisted optimal state discrimination. We find that only one side discord is required in the optimal process of assisted state discrimination, while another side discord and entanglement is not necessary. We confirm that the quantum discord, which is asymmetric depending on local measurements, is a resource for assisted state discrimination. With the absence of entanglement, we give the necessary and sufficient condition for vanishing one side discord in assisted state …
A necessary and sufficient condition for the maximal entanglement of bipartite nonorthogonal pure states is found. The condition is applied to the maximal entanglement of coherent states. Some new classes of maximally entangled coherent states are explicited constructed; their limits give rise to maximally entangled Bell-like states.
In the last years, a relationship has been established between the quantum Fisher information (QFI) and quantum entanglement. In the case of two-qubit systems, all pure entangled states can be made useful for sub-shot-noise interferometry while their QFI meets a necessary and sufficient condition [1]. In M-qubit systems, the QFI provides just a sufficient condition in the task of detecting the degree of entanglement of a generic state [2]. In our work, we show analytically that, for a large class of one-parameter non-optimal two-qubit states, the maximally entangled states are associated with …
We analytically prove the necessary and sufficient criterion for the full separability of three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) diagonal states. The corresponding entanglement is exactly calculable for some GHZ diagonal states and is tractable for the others using the relative entropy of entanglement. We show that the biseparable criterion and the genuine entanglement are determined only by the biggest GHZ diagonal element regardless of all the other smaller diagonal elements. We have completely solved the entanglement problems of three-qubit GHZ diagonal states.
Detecting and quantifying quantum entanglement of a given unknown state poses problems that are fundamentally important for quantum information processing. Surprisingly, no direct (i.e., without quantum tomography) universal experimental implementation of a necessary and sufficient test of entanglement has been designed even for a general two-qubit state. Here we propose an experimental method for detecting a collective universal witness, which is a necessary and sufficient test of two-photon polarization entanglement. It allows us to detect entanglement for any two-qubit mixed state and to es…
We reduce the necessary and sufficient biseparable conditions of the four qubit cluster diagonal state to concise forms. Only 4 out of the 15 parameters are proved to be relevant in specifying the genuine entanglement of the state. Using the relative entropy of entanglement as the entanglement measure, we analytically find the genuine entanglement of all the four qubit cluster diagonal states. The formulas of the genuine entanglement are of five kinds, for seven different parameter regions of entanglement.
We prove a necessary and sufficient condition for the occurrence of entanglement in two two-level systems, simple enough to be of experimental interest. Our results are illustrated in the context of a spin star system analyzing the exact entanglement evolution of the central couple of spins.
We consider general locally-interacting arbitrary-dimensional lattice spin systems that are gapped for any system size. We show under reasonable conditions that nondegenerate ground states of such systems obey the entanglement area law. In so doing, we offer an intuitive picture on how a spectral gap restricts the correlations that a ground state can accommodate and leads to such a special feature.
We study quantum states for which the PPT criterion is both sufficient and necessary for separability. We present a class of 3x3 bipartite mixed states and show that these states are separable if and only if they are PPT.
A necessary and sufficient entanglement criterion based on variances of Mermin-Klyshko's Bell operators is proved for multiqubit pure states. Contrary to Bell's inequalities, entangled pure states strictly satisfy a quadratic inequality but product ones can attain the equality under some local unitary transformations, which can be obtained by solving a quadratic maximum problem. This presents a characterization of multiqubit pure-state entanglement.
We study families of positive and completely positive maps acting on a bipartite system $\mathbb{C}^M\otimes \mathbb{C}^N$ (with $M\leq N$). The maps have a property that when applied to any state (of a given entanglement class) they result in a separable state, or more generally a state of another certain entanglement class (e.g., Schmidt number $\leq k$). This allows us to derive useful families of sufficient separability criteria. Explicit examples of such criteria have been constructed for arbitrary $M,N$, with a special emphasis on $M=2$. Our results can be viewed as generalizations of th…
Complementary correlations can reveal the genuine quantum correlations present in a composite quantum system. Here we investigate the relation between complementary correlations and other aspects of genuine quantum correlations. We show that for a certain class of states quantum correlations revealed through complementary correlations become equal to entanglement and discord. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition for entanglement distribution with separable Bell diagonal states in terms of complementary correlations.
We give a representation for entanglement-breaking channels in separable Hilbert space that generalizes the "Kraus decomposition with rank one operators" and use it to describe the complementary channels. We also give necessary and sufficient condition of entanglement-breaking for a general quantum Gaussian channel. Application of this condition to one-mode channels provides several new cases where the additivity conjecture holds in full generality.
We present a method for multipartite entanglement purification of any stabilizer state shared by several parties. In our protocol each party measures the stabilizer operators of a quantum error-correcting code on his or her qubits. The parties exchange their measurement results, detect or correct errors, and decode the desired purified state. We give sufficient conditions on the stabilizer codes that may be used in this procedure and find that Steane's seven-qubit code is the smallest error-correcting code sufficient to purify any stabilizer state. An error-detecting code that encodes two qubi…
A formula to evaluate the entanglement in an one-dimensional ferrimagnetic system is derived. Based on the formula, we find that the thermal entanglement in a small size spin-1/2 and spin-s ferrimagnetic chain is rather robust against temperature, and the threshold temperature may be arbitrarily high when s is sufficiently large. This intriguing result answers unambiguously a fundamental question: ``can entanglement and quantum behavior in physical systems survive at arbitrary high temperatures?"
We study the problem of witnessing entanglement among indistinguishable particles. For this purpose, we derive a set of equations which results in necessary and sufficient conditions for probing multipartite entanglement between arbitrary systems of Bosons or Fermions. The solution of these equations yields the construction of optimal entanglement witnesses for partial and full entanglement in discrete and continuous variable systems. Our approach unifies the verification of entanglement for distinguishable and indistinguishable particles. We provide general solutions for certain observables t…
