We derive criterion in the form of inequality based on quantum Fisher information and quantum variance to detect multipartite entanglement. It can be regarded as complementary of the well-established PPT criterion in the sense that it can also detect bound entangled states. The inequality is motivated by Y.Akbari-Kourbolagh $et\ al.$[Phys. Rev A. 99, 012304 (2019)] which introduced a multipartite entanglement criterion based on quantum Fisher information. Our criterion is experimentally measurable for detecting any $N$-qudit pure state mixed with white noisy. We take several examples to illustrate that our criterion has good performance for detecting certain entangled states.
Quantum Fisher information places the fundamental limit to the accuracy of estimating an unknown parameter. Here we shall provide the quantum Fisher information an operational meaning: a mixed state can be so prepared that a given observable has the minimal averaged variance, which equals exactly to the quantum Fisher information for estimating an unknown parameter generated by the unitary dynamics with the given observable as Hamiltonian. In particular we shall prove that the quantum Fisher information is the convex roof of the variance, as conjectured by Toth and Petz based on numerical and …
We examine important properties of the difference between the variance and the quantum Fisher information over four, i.e., $(ΔA)^2-F_{\rm Q}[\varrho,A]/4.$ We find that it is equal to a generalized variance defined in Petz [J. Phys. A 35, 929 (2002)] and Gibilisco, Hiai, and Petz [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 55, 439 (2009)]. We present an upper bound on this quantity that is proportional to the linear entropy. As expected, our relation shows that for states that are close to being pure, the quantum Fisher information over four is close to the variance. We also obtain the variance and the quantum F…
We show that the variance is its own concave roof. For rank-2 density matrices and operators with zero diagonal elements in the eigenbasis of the density matrix, we prove analytically that the quantum Fisher information is four times the convex roof of the variance. Strong numerical evidence suggests that this statement is true even for operators with nonzero diagonal elements or density matrices with a rank larger than 2. We also find that within the different types of generalized quantum Fisher information considered in [D. Petz, J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 35, 929 (2002); P. Gibilisco, F. Hiai, …
When estimating the phase of a single mode, the quantum Fisher information for a pure probe state is proportional to the photon number variance of the probe state. In this work, we point out particular states that offer photon number distributions exhibiting a large variance, which would help to improve the local estimation precision. These theoretical examples are expected to stimulate the community to put more attention to those states that we found, and to work towards their experimental realization and usage in quantum metrology.
Variance and Fisher information are ingredients of the Cramer-Rao inequality. We regard Fisher information as a Riemannian metric on a quantum statistical manifold and choose monotonicity under coarse graining as the fundamental property of variance and Fisher information. In this approach we show that there is a kind of dual one-to-one correspondence between the candidates of the two concepts. We emphasis that Fisher informations are obtained from relative entropies as contrast functions on the state space and argue that the scalar curvature might be interpreted as an uncertainty density on a…
Genuine multipartite entanglement plays important roles in quantum information processing. The detection of genuine multipartite entanglement has been long time a challenging problem in the theory of quantum entanglement. We propose a criterion for detecting genuine tripartite entanglement of arbitrary dimensional tripartite states based on quantum Fisher information. We show that this criterion is more effective for some states in detecting genuine tripartite entanglement by detailed example.
We introduce a new incompatibility criterion for quantum channels, based on the notion of (quantum) Fisher information. Our construction is based on a similar criterion for quantum measurements put forward by H.~Zhu. We then study the power of the incompatibility criterion in different scenarios. Firstly, we prove the first analytical conditions for the incompatibility of two Schur channels. Then, we study the incompatibility structure of a tuple of depolarizing channels, comparing the newly introduced criterion with the known results from asymmetric quantum cloning.
We show how preparation uncertainty relations that are formulated as sums of variances may be tightened by using the quantum Fisher information to quantify quantum fluctuations. We apply this to derive stronger angular momentum uncertainty relations, which in the case of spin-$1/2$ turn into equalities involving the purity. Using an analogy between pure-state decompositions in the Bloch sphere and the moment of inertia of rigid bodies, we identify optimal decompositions that achieve the convex- and concave-roof decomposition of the variance. Finally, we illustrate how these results may be used…
The quantum Fisher information is of considerable interest not only for quantum metrology but also because it is a useful entanglement measure for finite temperature mixed states. In particular, it estimates the degree to which multipartite entanglement is present. Recent results have related the quantum Fisher information to experimentally measurable probes. While in principle possible, a direct evaluation of the quantum Fisher information at finite temperatures is technically challenging and here we show that a simple estimate can be obtained for materials where the single mode approximation…
The Fisher information of a quantum observable is shown to be proportional to both (i) the difference of a quantum and a classical variance, thus providing a measure of nonclassicality; and (ii) the rate of entropy increase under Gaussian diffusion, thus providing a measure of robustness. The joint nonclassicality of position and momentum observables is shown to be complementary to their joint robustness in an exact sense.
Many researches proposed the use of the noon state as the input state for phase estimation, which is one topic of quantum metrology. This is because the input noon state provides the maximum Fisher information at the specific point. However, the Fisher information does not necessarily give the attainable bound for estimation error. In this paper, we adopt the local asymptotic mini-max criterion as well as the mini-max criterion, and show that the maximum Fisher information does not give the attainable bound for estimation error under these criteria in the phase estimation. We also propose the …
We show that both the classical as well as the quantum definitions of the Fisher information faithfully identify resourceful quantum states in general quantum resource theories, in the sense that they can always distinguish between states with and without a given resource. This shows that all quantum resources confer an advantage in metrology, and establishes the Fisher information as a universal tool to probe the resourcefulness of quantum states. We provide bounds on the extent of this advantage, as well as a simple criterion to test whether different resources are useful for the estimation …
Counterfactual communication protocols are analysed using three approaches: a classical argument, the weak trace criterion, and the Fisher information criterion. It is argued that the classical analysis leads to contradiction and should therefore be abandoned. The weak trace and Fisher information criteria are shown to agree about the degree of counterfactuality of communication protocols involving postselection. It is argued that postselection is a necessary ingredient of counterfactual communication protocols. Coherent interaction experiments, as well as a recently introduced modification of…
We propose an EPR inequality based on an entropic uncertainty relation for complementary continuous variable observables. This inequality is more sensitive than the previously established EPR inequality based on inferred variances, and opens up the possibility of EPR tests of quantum nonlocality in a wider variety of quantum states. We experimentally test the inequality using spatially entangled photons. For a particular quantum state, our experimental results show a violation of the entropic EPR inequality, while the variance EPR inequality is not violated.
We derive a general criterion to detect entangled states in multi-partite systems based on the symmetric logarithmic derivative quantum Fisher information. This criterion is a direct consequence of the fact that separable states do not improve the accuracy upon estimating one-parameter family of quantum channels. Our result is a generalization of the previously known criterion for one-parameter unitary channel to any one-parameter quantum channel. We discuss several examples to illustrate our criterion. The proposed criterion is extended to the case of open quantum systems and we briefly discu…
Genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) offers more significant advantages in quantum information compared with entanglement. We propose a sufficient criterion for the detection of GME based on local sum uncertainty relations for chosen observables of subsystems. We apply the criterion to detect the GME properties of noisy $n$-partite W state when $n = 3, 4, 5$ and $6$, and find that the criterion can detect more noisy W states when $n$ ranges from 4 to 6. Moreover, the criterion is also used to detect the genuine entanglement of $3$-qutrit state. The result is stronger than that based on GME …
The Fisher information $F$ gives a limit to the ultimate precision achievable in a phase estimation protocol. It has been shown recently that the Fisher information for a linear two-mode interferometer cannot exceed the number of particles if the input state is separable. As a direct consequence, with such input states the shot-noise limit is the ultimate limit of precision. In this work, we go a step further by deducing bounds on $F$ for several multiparticle entanglement classes. These bounds imply that genuine multiparticle entanglement is needed for reaching the highest sensitivities in qu…
An inseparability criterion based on the total variance of a pair of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen type operators is proposed for continuous variable systems. The criterion provides a sufficient condition for entanglement of any two-party continuous variable states. Furthermore, for all the Gaussian states, this criterion turns out to be a necessary and sufficient condition for inseparability.
The basic idea behind Rayleigh's criterion on resolving two incoherent optical point sources is that the overlap between the spatial modes from different sources would reduce the estimation precision for the locations of the sources, dubbed Rayleigh's curse. We generalize the concept of Rayleigh's curse to the abstract problems of quantum parameter estimation with incoherent sources. To manifest the effect of Rayleigh's curse on quantum parameter estimation, we define the curse matrix in terms of quantum Fisher information and introduce the global and local immunity to the curse accordingly. W…
Quantum kernel method is a machine learning model exploiting quantum computers to calculate the quantum kernels (QKs) that measure the similarity between data. Despite the potential quantum advantage of the method, the commonly used fidelity-based QK suffers from a detrimental issue, which we call the vanishing similarity issue; detecting the difference between data becomes hard with the increase of the number of qubits, due to the exponential decrease of the expectation and the variance of the QK. This implies the need to design QKs alternative to the fidelity-based one. In this work, we prop…
We consider an instance of black-box quantum metrology in the Gaussian framework, where we aim to estimate the amount of squeezing applied on an input probe, without previous knowledge on the phase of the applied squeezing. By taking the quantum Fisher information (QFI) as the figure of merit, we evaluate its average and variance with respect to this phase in order to identify probe states that yield good precision for many different squeezing directions. We first consider the case of single-mode Gaussian probes with the same energy, and find that pure squeezed states maximize the average quan…

We formulate an entanglement criterion using Peres-Horodecki positive partial transpose operations combined with the Schrödinger-Robertson uncertainty relation. We show that any pure entangled bipartite and tripartite state can be detected by experimentally measuring mean values and variances of specific observables. Those observables must satisfy a specific condition in order to be used, and we show their general form in the $2\times 2$ (two qubits) dimension case. The criterion is applied on a variety of physical systems including bipartite and multipartite mixed states and reveals itself to…

This paper deals with the problem of estimating the coupling constant $θ$ of a mixing quantum Markov chain. For a repeated measurement on the chain's output we show that the outcomes' time average has an asymptotically normal (Gaussian) distribution, and we give the explicit expressions of its mean and variance. In particular we obtain a simple estimator of $θ$ whose classical Fisher information can be optimized over different choices of measured observables. We then show that the quantum state of the output together with the system, is itself asymptotically Gaussian and compute its quantum Fi…
The Fisher-Shannon and Cramer-Rao information measures, and the LMC-like or shape complexity (i.e., the disequilibrium times the Shannon entropic power) of hydrogenic stationary states are investigated in both position and momentum spaces. First, it is shown that not only the Fisher information and the variance (then, the Cramer-Rao measure) but also the disequilibrium associated to the quantum-mechanical probability density can be explicitly expressed in terms of the three quantum numbers (n, l, m) of the corresponding state. Second, the three composite measures mentioned above are analytical…
