Considering some important classes of generalized coherent states known in literature, we demonstrated that all of them can be created via conventional fashion, i.e. the "lowering operator eigen-state" and the "displacement operator" techniques using the {\it "nonlinear coherent states"} approach. As a result we obtained a {\it "unified method"} to construct a large class of coherent states which already have been introduced by different prescriptions.
In this paper we construct the generalized coherent states for an electron in monolayer or bilayer graphene placed in an external magnetic field. At first we define an appropriate set of ladder operators acting on the eigenfunctions for each Hamiltonian, afterwards we derive the generalized coherent states through several definitions and analyze the commutation relationship between the ladder operators. Then we determine the conditions leading to the mutual equivalence between coherent states. Finally, some physical quantities are calculated and we study the time evolution for the generalized …
We argue that the statistical features of generalized coherent states for power-law potentials based on Heisenberg algebra, presented in a recent paper by Berrada et al (Phys. Lett. A, 375, 298 (2011)) are incorrect.
Entanglement in a class of bipartite generalized coherent states is discussed. It is shown that a positive parameter can be associated with the bipartite generalized coherent states so that the states with equal value for the parameter are of equal entanglement. It is shown that the maximum possible entanglement of 1 bit is attained if the positive parameter equals $\sqrt{2}$. The result that the entanglement is one bit when the relative phase between the composing states is $π$ in bipartite coherent states is shown to be true for the class of bipartite generalized coherent states considered.
A generalization of the canonical coherent states of a quantum harmonic oscillator has been performed by requiring the conditions of normalizability, continuity in the label and resolution of the identity operator with a positive weight function. Relying on this approach, in the present scenario coherent states are generalized over the canonical or finite dimensional Fock space of the harmonic oscillator. A class of generalized coherent states is determined such that the distribution of the number of excitations departs from the Poisson statistics according to combinations of stretched exponen…
We are continuing here the study of generalized coherent states of Barut-Girardello type for the oscillator-like systems connected with the given set of orthogonal polynomials. In this work we construct the family of coherent states associated with discrete $q$-Hermite polynomials of the II-type and prove the over-completeness of this family of states by constructing the measure for unity decomposition for this family of coherent states.
This article is an illustration of the construction of coherent and generalized intelligent states which has been recently proposed by us for an arbitrary quantum system $[ 1] $. We treat the quantum system submitted to the infinite square well potential and the nonlinear oscillators. By means of the analytical representation of the coherent states à la Gazeau-Klauder and those à la Klauder-Perelomov, we derive the generalized intelligent states in analytical ways.
We introduce a large class of holomorphic quantum states by choosing their normalization functions to be given by generalized hypergeometric functions. We call them generalized hypergeometric states in general, and generalized hypergeometric coherent states in particular, if they allow a resolution of unity. Depending on the domain of convergence of the generalized hypergeometric functions, we distinguish generalized hypergeometric states on the plane, the open unit disk, and the unit circle. All states are eigenstates of suitably defined lowering operators. We then study their photon number s…
In a recent Letter~[PRL \textbf{121}, 130404 (2018)], it was announced that the spin-coherent-state POVM can be implemented via a nonadaptive continuous isotropic measurement. In this article, the mathematical concepts used to prove this are explained in greater depth. Also provided is the more general result of how to implement a generalized-coherent-state POVM for any finite-dimensional unitary representation of a Lie group.
In the coherent state of the harmonic oscillator, the probability density is that of the ground state subjected to an oscillation along a classical trajectory. Senitzky and others pointed out that there are states of the harmonic oscillator corresponding to an identical oscillatory displacement of the probability density of any energy eigenstate. These generalizations of the coherent state are rarely discussed, yet they furnish an interesting set of quantum states of light that combine features of number states and coherent states. Here we give an elementary account of the quantum optics of ge…
A generalized scheme for the construction of coherent states in the context of position-dependent effective mass systems has been presented. This formalism is based on the ladder operators and associated algebra of the system which are obtained using the concepts of supersymmetric quantum mechanics and the property of shape-invariance. In order to exemplify the general results and to analyzed the properties of the coherent states, several examples have been considered.
The construction of oscillator-like systems connected with the given set of orthogonal polynomials and coherent states for such systems developed by authors is extended to the case of the systems with finite-dimensional state space. As example we consider the generalized oscillator connected with Krawtchouk polynomials.
In this paper, the generalized coherent state for quantum systems with degenerate spectra is introduced. Then, the nonclassicality features and number-phase entropic uncertainty relation of two particular degenerate quantum systems are studied. Finally, using the Gazeau-Klauder coherent states approach, time evolution of some of the nonclassical properties of the coherent states corresponding to the considered physical systems are discussed.
We consider quantum systems, whose dynamical symmetry groups are semisimple Lie groups, which can be split or decay into two subsystems of the same symmetry. We prove that the only states of such a system that factorize upon splitting are the generalized coherent states. Since Bell's inequality is never violated by the direct product state, when the system prepared in the generalized coherent state is split, no quantum correlations are created. Therefore, the generalized coherent states are the unique Bell states, i.e., the pure quantum states preserving the fundamental classical property of s…
We show that the $N$-photon generalized binomial states of electromagnetic field may be put in a bijective mapping with the coherent atomic states of $N$ two-level atoms. We exploit this correspondence to simply obtain both known and new properties of the $N$-photon generalized binomial states. In particular, an over-complete basis of these binomial states and an orthonormal basis are obtained. Finally, the squeezing properties of generalized binomial state are analyzed.
We review classical properties of harmonic-oscillator coherent states. Then we discuss which of these classical properties are preserved under the group-theoretic generalization of coherent states. We prove that the generalized coherent states of quantum systems with Lie-group symmetries are the unique Bell states, i.e., the pure quantum states preserving the fundamental classical property of satisfying Bell's inequality upon splitting.
The investigation of the generalized coherent states for oscillator-like systems connected with given family of orthogonal polynomials is continued. In this work we consider oscillators connected with Meixner and Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials and define generalized coherent states for these oscillators. The completeness condition for these states is proved by the solution of the related classical moment problem. The results are compared with the other authors ones. In particular, we show that the Hamiltonian of the relativistic model of linear harmonic oscillator can be thought of as the linea…
We propose a generalized form of entangled coherent states (ECS) and apply them in a multi-arm optical interferometer to estimate multiple phase shifts. We obtain the quantum Cramer-Rao bounds for both the linear and nonlinear parameterization protocols. Through the analysis, we find that, utilizing the simultaneous estimation, this generalized form of ECS gives a better precision than the generalized NOON states [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{111}, 070403 (2013)]. Moreover, comparing with the independent estimation, both the linear and nonlinear protocols have the same advantage in the relation to…
We construct photon modulated coherent states of a generalized isotonic oscillator by expanding the newly introduced superposed operator through Weyl ordering method. We evaluate the parameter $A_3$ and the $s$-parameterized quasi probability distribution function to confirm the non - classical nature of the states. We also calculate the identities related with the quadrature squeezing to explore the squeezing property of the states. Finally, we investigate the fidelity between the photon modulated coherent states and coherent states to quantify the non-Gaussianity of the states. The construct…
We consider the role of quantum mechanics in a specific coherent control scenario, designing a "coherent control interferometer" as the essential tool that links coherent control to quantum fundamentals. Building upon this allows us to rigorously display the genuinely quantum nature of a generalized weak-field coherent control scenario (utilizing 1 vs. 2 photon excitation) via a Bell-CHSH test. Specifically, we propose an implementation of "quantum delayed-choice" in a bichromatic alkali atom photoionization experiment. The experimenter can choose between two complementary situations, which ar…
We present a scheme to prepare generalized coherent states in a system with two species of Bose-Einstein condensates. First, within the two-mode approximation, we demonstrate that a Schrodinger cat-like can be dynamically generated and, by controlling the Josephson-like coupling strength, the number of coherent states in the superposition can be varied. Later, we analyze numerically the dynamics of the whole system when interspecies collisions are inhibited. Variables such as fractional population, Mandel parameter and variances of annihilation and number operators are used to show that the ev…
Generalized coherent states arise from reference states by the action of locally compact transformation groups and thereby form manifolds on which there is an invariant measure. It is shown that this implies the existence of canonically associated Bell states that serve as measuring rods by relating the metric geometry of the manifold to the observed EPR correlations. It is further shown that these correlations can be accounted for by a hidden variable theory which is non-local but invariant under the stability group of the reference state.
It is well known that the maximal success probability of the binary quantum communication can be improved by using a sub-Poissonian non-standard coherent state as an information carrier. In the present article, we consider the quantum communication with $N$-ary phase shift keying ($N$-PSK) signal for an arbitrary positive integer $N>1$. By using non-standard coherent state, we analytically provide the maximal success probability of the quantum communication with $N$-PSK. Unlike the binary case, we show that even super-Poissonianity of non-standard coherent state can improve the maximal success…
Within the new description of the polarization structure of quantum light (given in Part I) some types of generalized coherent states related to the polarization SU(2) group are examined. With their help we give a quasiclassical description of polarization properties of light fields and discuss the concept of squeezing and uncertainty relations for multimode light in the polarization quantum optics. As a consequence, a new classification of polarization states of quantum light is obtained. We also derive geometric phases acquired by different quantum light beams transmitted through "polarizati…
We give the explicit expressions of the pairwise quantum correlations present in superpositions of multipartite coherent states. A special attention is devoted to the evaluation of the geometric quantum discord. The dynamics of quantum correlations under a dephasing channel is analyzed. A comparison of geometric measure of quantum discord with that of concurrence shows that quantum discord in multipartite coherent states is more resilient to dissipative environments than is quantum entanglement. To illustrate our results, we consider some special superpositions of Weyl-Heisenberg, SU(2) and SU…
A simple technique is used to obtain a general formula for the Berry phase (and the corresponding Hannay angle) for an arbitrary Hamiltonian with an equally-spaced spectrum and appropriate ladder operators connecting the eigenstates. The formalism is first applied to a general deformation of the oscillator involving both squeezing and displacement. Earlier results are shown to emerge as special cases. The analysis is then extended to multiphoton squeezed coherent states and the corresponding anholonomies deduced.
In this paper, using an exponential function of intensity of radiation field, two new classes of nonlinear coherent states will be constructed. For the first class, we choose the nonlinearity function as f(n) = exp(βn), where βcharacterizes the strength of the nonlinearity of the quantum system. We show that, the corresponding β-states possess a collection of non-classicality features, only for the particular values of βand z. But, interestingly there exists finite (threshold) values of β, for which all of the non-classicality signs will disappear, in appropriate regions around the origin of t…
In this paper, we construct nonlinear coherent states for the generalized isotonic oscillator and study their non-classical properties in-detail. By transforming the deformed ladder operators suitably, which generate the quadratic algebra, we obtain Heisenberg algebra. From the algebra we define two non-unitary and an unitary displacement type operators. While the action of one of the non-unitary type operators reproduces the original nonlinear coherent states, the other one fails to produce a new set of nonlinear coherent states (dual pair). We show that these dual states are not normalizable…
Generalized quantum measurements identifying non-orthogonal states without ambiguity often play an indispensable role in various quantum applications. For such unambiguous state discrimination scenario, we have a finite probability of obtaining inconclusive results and minimizing the probability of inconclusive results is of particular importance. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate an adaptive generalized measurement that can unambiguously discriminate the quaternary phase-shift-keying coherent states with a near-optimal performance. Our scheme is composed of displacement operations,…
We show that the physical mechanism of population transfer in a 3-level system with a closed loop of coherent couplings (loop-STIRAP) is not equivalent to an adiabatic rotation of the dark-state of the Hamiltonian but coresponds to a rotation of a higher-order trapping state in a generalized adiabatic basis. The concept of generalized adiabatic basis sets is used as a constructive tool to design pulse sequences for stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) which give maximum population transfer also under conditions when the usual condition of adiabaticty is only poorly fulfilled. Under cert…
We propose the generalized stochastic Liouville equation to investigate the coherent dynamics in single molecule systems coupled to environments which exhibit both nonstationary and non-Markovian features. The generalized stochastic Liouville equation contains a generalized memory kernel associated with both the intrinsic system Hamiltonian and the non-Markovian features of the environmental noise, which returns to the well-known framework established by Kubo in the limit case that the environmental noise is stationary and memoryless. The coherence of the quantum system can be derived by means…
We construct nonlinear coherent states or f-deformed coherent states for a nonpolynomial nonlinear oscillator which can be considered as placed in the middle between the harmonic oscillator and the isotonic oscillator (Cariñena J F et al, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 41, 085301 (2008)). The deformed annihilation and creation operators which are required to construct the nonlinear coherent states in the number basis are obtained from the solution of the Schrödinger equation. Using these operators, we construct generalized intelligent states, nonlinear coherent states, Gazeau-Klauder coherent states…
We investigate the connection between quasi-classical (pointer) states and generalized coherent states (GCSs) within an algebraic approach to Markovian quantum systems (including bosons, spins, and fermions). We establish conditions for the GCS set to become most robust by relating the rate of purity loss to an invariant measure of uncertainty derived from quantum Fisher information. We find that, for damped bosonic modes, the stability of canonical coherent states is confirmed in a variety of scenarios, while for systems described by (compact) Lie algebras stringent symmetry constraints must …
It is the aim of this paper to show how to construct Perelomov and Barut-Girardello coherent states for a polynomial Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. This algebra depends on r parameters. For some special values of the parameter corresponding to r = 1, the algebra covers the cases of the su(1,1) algebra, the su(2) algebra and the ordinary Weyl-Heisenberg or oscillator algebra. For r arbitrary, the generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra admits finite or infinite-dimensional representations depending on the values of the parameters. Coherent states of the Perelomov type are derived in finite and infinite d…
The support vector machine (SVM) is a popular machine learning classification method which produces a nonlinear decision boundary in a feature space by constructing linear boundaries in a transformed Hilbert space. It is well known that these algorithms when executed on a classical computer do not scale well with the size of the feature space both in terms of data points and dimensionality. One of the most significant limitations of classical algorithms using non-linear kernels is that the kernel function has to be evaluated for all pairs of input feature vectors which themselves may be of sub…
It is shown that the quantum theory can be formulated on homogeneous spaces of generalized coherent states in a manner that accounts for interference, entanglement, and the linearity of dynamics without using the superposition principle. The coherent state labels, which are essentially instructions for preparing states, make it unnecessary to identify properties with projectors in Hilbert space. This eliminates the so called "eigenvalue-eigenstate" link, and the theory thereby escapes the measurement problem. What the theory allows us to predict is the distribution in the outcomes of tests of …
We suggest as gedanken experiment a generalization of the Aharonov-Bohm experiment, based on an array of solenoids. This experiment allows in principle to measure the decomposition into homotopy classes of the quantum mechanical propagator. This yields information on the geometry of the average path of propagation and allows to determine its Hausdorff dimension.
In this paper the factorization method is used in order to obtain the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a quantum particle confined in a one-dimensional infinite well. The output results from the mentioned approach allows us to explore an appropriate new pair of raising and lowering operators corresponding to the physical system under consideration. From the symmetrical considerations, the connection between the obtained ladder operators with $su(1,1)$ Lie algebra is explicitly established. Next, after the construction of Barut-Girardello and Gilmore-Perelomov representations of coherent state…
Losses in quantum communication lines severely affect the rates of reliable information transmission and are usually considered to be state-independent. However, the loss probability does depend on the system state in general, with the polarization dependent losses being a prominent example. Here we analyze biased trace decreasing quantum operations that assign different loss probabilities to states and introduce the concept of a generalized erasure channel. We find lower and upper bounds for the classical and quantum capacities of the generalized erasure channel as well as characterize its de…
We obtained analytical expressions for Entangled of Formation (EoF) and Quantum Discord (QD) of Werner states and Generalized Werner-Like states. The optimization problem involved under the exact analytical form is obtained for both quantities. In order to illustrate the importance of our results we studied the EoF and the QD of these states. Using discrete formulation of continue states with the $f-$deformed coherent states obtained as deformed annihilation operator coherent states and as deformed displacement operator coherent states. The EoF and QD of bipartite Werner-Like states $f-$deform…
It is shown that each one of the Lie algebras su(1,1) and su(2) determine the spectrum of the radial oscillator. States that share the same orbital angular momentum are used to construct the representation spaces of the non-compact Lie group SU(1,1). In addition, three different forms of obtaining the representation spaces of the compact Lie group SU(2) are introduced, they are based on the accidental degeneracies associated with the spherical symmetry of the system as well as on the selection rules that govern the transitions between different energy levels. In all cases the corresponding gen…
The present study investigates the interaction of an equidistant three-level atom and a single-mode cavity field that has been initially prepared in a generalized coherent state. The atom-field interaction is considered to be, in general, intensity-dependent. We suppose that the nonlinearity of the initial generalized coherent state of the field and the intensity-dependent coupling between atom and field are distinctly chosen. Interestingly, an exact analytical solution for the time evolution of the state of atom-field system can be found in this general regime in terms of the nonlinearity fun…
A set of Hamiltonians that are not self-adjoint but have the spectrum of the harmonic oscillator is studied. The eigenvectors of these operators and those of their Hermitian conjugates form a bi-orthogonal system that provides a mathematical procedure to satisfy the superposition principle. In this form the non-Hermitian oscillators can be studied in much the same way as in the Hermitian approaches. Two different nonlinear algebras generated by properly constructed ladder operators are found and the corresponding generalized coherent states are obtained. The non-Hermitian oscillators can be st…
The quantum discord is used as measure of quantum correlations for two families of multipartite coherent states. The first family interpolates between generalized GHZ states and generalized Werner states. The second one is an interpolation between generalized GHZ and the ground state of the multipartite quantum system. Two inequivalent ways to split the system in a pair of qubits are introduced. The explicit expressions of quantum quantum discord in multipartite coherent states are derived. Its evaluation uses the Koashi-Winter relation in optimizing the conditional entropy. The temporal evolu…
We introduce a generalization structure of the su(1,1) algebra which depends on a function of one generator of the algebra, f(H). Following the same ideas developed to the generalized Heisenberg algebra (GHA) and to the generalized su(2), we show that a symmetry is present in the sequence of eigenvalues of one generator of the algebra. Then, we construct the Barut-Girardello coherent states associated with the generalized su(1,1) algebra for a particle in a Pöschl-Teller potential. Furthermore, we compare the time evolution of the uncertainty relation of the constructed coherent states with th…
In the paper, a pair of dual operators is introduced with which a dual pair of generalized displacement operators is constructed. With these entities it is shown that the Barut - Girardello and Klauder - Perelomov generalized coherent states are dual states. The characteristics of these coherent states are constructed, separately and comparatively.
In this letter we make a brief review of some basic properties (the matrix elements, the trace, the Glauber formula) of coherent operators and study the corresponding ones for generalized coherent operators based on Lie algebra su(1,1). We also propose some problems.
Generalized coherent states for shape invariant potentials are constructed using an algebraic approach based on supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We show this generalized formalism is able to: a) supply the essential requirements necessary to establish a connection between classical and quantum formulations of a given system (continuity of labeling, resolution of unity, temporal stability, and action identity); b) reproduce results already known for shape-invariant systems, like harmonic oscillator, double anharmonic, Poschl-Teller and self-similar potentials and; c) point to a formalism that …
We show that generalized coherent states follow Schrödinger dynamics in time-dependent potentials. The normalized wave-packets follow a classical evolution without spreading; in turn, the Schrödinger potential depends on the state through the classical trajectory. This feedback mechanism with continuous dynamical re-adjustement allows the packets to remain coherent indefinetely.
We present a correspondence between positive operator valued measures (POVMs) and sets of generalized coherent states. Positive operator valued measures describe quantum observables and, similarly to quantum states, also quantum observables can be mixed. We show how the formalism of generalized coherent states leads to a useful characterization of extremal POVMs. We prove that covariant phase space observables related to squeezed states are extremal, while the ones related to number states are not extremal.
I consider the time evolution of generalized coherent states based on non-standard fiducial vectors, and show that only for a restricted class of fiducial vectors does the associated classical motion determine the quantum evolution of the states. I discuss some consequences of this for path integral representations.
A detailed derivation of the semiclassical propagator in the generalized coherent-state representation is performed by applying the saddle-point method to a path integral over the classical phase space. With the purpose of providing greater accessibility and applicability to the developed formalism, a brief review of the generalized concept of coherent states is presented, in which three examples of coherent-state sets are examined, namely, the canonical, spin, and SU(n) bosonic coherent states.
Explicit forms are given of matrix elements of generalized coherent operators based on Lie algebras su(1,1) and su(2). We also give a kind of factorization formula of the associated Laguerre polynomials.
Generalized coherent states are developed for SU(n) systems for arbitrary $n$. This is done by first iteratively determining explicit representations for the SU(n) coherent states, and then determining parametric representations useful for applications. For SU(n), the set of coherent states is isomorphic to a coset space $SU(n)/SU(n-1)$, and thus shows the geometrical structure of the coset space. These results provide a convenient $(2n - 1)$--dimensional space for the description of arbitrary SU(n) systems. We further obtain the metric and measure on the coset space, and show some properties …
