This paper gives a new integrable hierarchy of nonlinear evolution equations. The DP equation: $m_t+um_x+3mu_x=0, m=u-u_{xx}$, proposed recently by Desgaperis and Procesi \cite{DP[1999]}, is the first one in the negative hierarchy while the first one in the positive hierarchy is:\ $m_t=4(m^{-{2/3}})_x-5(m^{-{2/3}})_{xxx}+ (m^{-{2/3}})_{xxxxx}$. The whole hierarchy is shown Lax-integrable through solving a key matrix equation. To obtain the parametric solutions for the whole hierarchy, we separatedly discuss the negative and the positive hierarchies. For the negative hierarchy, its $3\times3$ Lax pairs and corresponding adjoint representations are nonlinearized to be Liouville-integrable Hamiltonian canonical systems under the so-called Dirac-Poisson bracket defined on a symplectic submanifold of $\R^{6N} $. Based on the integrability of those finite-dimensional canonical Hamiltonian systems we give the parametric solutions of the all equations in the negative hierarchy. In particular, we obtain the parametric solution of the DP equation. Moreover, for the positive hierarchy, we consider the different constraint and use a similar procudure to the negative case to obtain the parametric solutions of the positive hierarchy. In particular, we give the parametric solution of the 5th-order PDE $m_t=4(m^{-{2/3}})_x-5(m^{-{2/3}})_{xxx}+ (m^{-{2/3}})_{xxxxx}$. Finally, we discuss the stationary solutions of the 5th-order PDE, and particularly give its four peaked stationary solutions. The stationary solutions may be included in the parametric solution, but the peaked stationary solutions not. The 5th-order PDE does not have the cusp soliton although it looks like a higher order Harry-Dym equation.
We propose a systematic method to generalize the integrable Rosochatius deformations for finite dimensional integrable Hamiltonian systems to integrable Rosochatius deformations for infinite dimensional integrable equations. Infinite number of the integrable Rosochatius deformed higher-order constrained flows of some soliton hierarchies, which includes the generalized integrable H$\acute{e}$non-Heiles system, and the integrable Rosochatius deformations of the KdV hierarchy with self-consistent sources, of the AKNS hierarchy with self-consistent sources and of the mKdV hierarchy with self-consi…
In this letter, a new generalized matrix spectral problem of Dirac type associated with the super Lie algebra $\mathcal{B}(0,1)$ is proposed and its corresponding super integrable hierarchy is constructed.
A loop algebra approach to the Gerdjikov-Mikhailov-Valchev (GMV) equation is provided to exploit the associated twisted integrable structure and a new twisted integrable hierarchy is discovered. Using the twisted loop algebra structure, we obtain a transparent treatment of the associated scattering and inverse scattering theory and solve the initial value problem for the GMV equation.
An integrable dispersionless KdV hierarchy with sources (dKdVHWS) is derived. Lax pair equations and bi-Hamiltonian formulation for dKdVHWS are formulated. Hodograph solution for the dispersionless KdV equation with sources (dKdVWS) is obtained via hodograph transformation. Furthermore, the dispersionless Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy with sources (dGDHWS) is presented.
In the paper we continue to consider symmetries related to the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy. We derive symmetries for the integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchy and discrete AKNS hierarchy. The integrable discrete nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchy are in scalar form and its two sets of symmetries are shown to form a Lie algebra. We also present discrete AKNS isospectral flows, non-isospectral flows and their recursion operator. In continuous limit these flows go to the continuous AKNS flows and the recursion operator goes to the square of the AKNS recursion operartor. These discrete AKN…
We use example of the Davey-Stewartson hierarchy to show that in addition to the standard equations given by Lax operator and evolutions of times with positive numbers, one can consider time evolutions with negative numbers and the same Lax operator. We derive corresponding Lax pairs and integrable equations.
In this letter, we propose a (2+1)-dimensional generalized Camassa-Holm (2dgCH) hierarchy with both quadratic and cubic nonlinearity. The Lax representation and peakon solutions for the 2dgCH system are derived.
An integrable generalization of the super Kaup-Newell(KN) isospectral problem is introduced and its corresponding generalized super KN soliton hierarchy are established based on a Lie super-algebra B(0,1) and super-trace identity in this paper. And the resulting super soliton hierarchy can be put into a super bi-Hamiltonian form. In addition, a generalized super KN soliton hierarchy with self-consistent sources is also presented.
We introduce a hierarchy of integrable PDEs in 2+1 dimensions arising from the commutation of 2-dimensional vector fields. We also solve the associated Cauchy problems, using the recently developed Inverse Scattering Transform for 1-parameter families of multidimensional vector fields.
In this paper, we construct the Virasoro type additional symmetries of a kind of constrained multi-component KP hierarchy and give the Virasoro flow equation on eigenfunctions and adjoint eigenfunctions. It can also be seen that the algebraic structure of the Virasoro symmetry is kept after discretization from the constrained multi-component KP hierarchy to the discrete constrained multi-component KP hierarchy.
The concept of the nonholonomic deformation formulated recently for the AKNS family is extended to the Kaup-Newell class. Applying this construction we discover a novel two-fold integrable hierarchy related to the deformed derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation and found the exact soliton solutions exhibiting unusual accelerating motion for both its field and the perturbing functions. Extending the idea of deformation the integrable perturbation of the gauge related Chen-Lee-Liu DNLS equation is constructed together with its soliton solution. We show that, the recently proposed Lenel…
Integrable mixed models have been used as a generalization of traditional integrable models. However, a map from a traditional integrable model to a mixed integrable model is not well understood yet. Here, it is studied the relation between the mKdV-Liouville hierarchy and the mKdV hierarchy by employing an extended version of the modified truncation approach. This paper shows some solutions for the mKdV-Liouville hierarchy constructed from the soliton solutions of the mKdV hierarchy. The last section deals with the possibility of define new transcendental functions from the self-similarity re…
Properties of the Cauchy--Jost (known also as Cauchy--Baker--Akhiezer) function of the KPII equation are described. By means of the $\bar\partial$-problem for this function it is shown that all equations of the KPII hierarchy are given in a compact and explicit form, including equations on the Cauchy--Jost function itself, time evolutions of the Jost solutions and evolutions of the potential of the heat equation.
We enlarge the spectral problem of a generalized D-Kaup-Newell (D-KN) spectral problem. Solving the enlarged zero-curvature equations, we produce integrable couplings. A reduction of the spectral matrix leads to a second integrable coupling system. Next, bilinear forms that are symmetric, ad-invariant, and non-degenerate on the given non-semisimple matrix Lie algebra are computed to employ the variational identity. The variational identity is then applied to the original enlarged spectral problem of a generalized D-KN hierarchy and the reduced problem. Hamiltonian structures are presented, as …
We investigate self-similar solutions of the extended discrete KP hierarchy. It is shown that corresponding ansatzes lead to purely discrete equations with dependence on some number of parameters together with equations governing deformations with respect to these parameters. Some examples are provided. In particular, it is shown that the well known discrete first Painleve equation (dPI) and its hierarchy arises as self-similar reduction of Volterra lattice hierarchy which in turn can be treated as a reduction of the extended discrete KP hierarchy. It is written down equations which naturally …
The (3+1)-dimensional dispersionless integrable hierarchy and nonlinear Riemann-Hilbert problem associated with the Doubrov-Ferapontov modified heavenly equation
Based on the Lax compatibility, the negative-order coupled Harry--Dym (ncHD) hierarchy depending upon one parameter $α$ is retrieved in the Lenard scheme, which includes the two-component Camassa--Holm (2CH) equation as a special member with $α=-\frac14$. By using a symmetric constraint, it is found that only in the case of $α>1$ the ncHD hierarchy can be reduced to a family of backward Neumann type systems by separating the temporal and spatial variables on the tangent bundle of a unit sphere. The resultant backward Neumann type systems are proved to be completely integrable in the Liouville …
The quasi-classical limit of the scalar nonlocal dbar-problem is derived and a quasi-classical version of the dbar-dressing method is presented. Dispersionless KP, mKP and 2DTL hierarchies are discussed as illustrative examples. It is shown that the universal Whitham hierarchy it is nothing but the ring of symmetries for the quasi-classical dbar-problem. The reduction problem is discussed and, in particular, the d2DTL equation of B type is derived.
Recently proposed nonholonomic deformation of the KdV equation is solved through inverse scattering method by constructing AKNS-type Lax pair. Exact and explicit N-soliton solutions are found for the basic field and the deforming function showing an unusual accelerated (decelerated) motion. A two-fold integrable hierarchy is revealed, one with usual higher order dispersion and the other with novel higher nonholonomic deformations.
Dispersive deformations of the Monge equation u_u=uu_x are studied using ideas originating from topological quantum field theory and the deformation quantization programme. It is shown that, to a high-order, the symmetries of the Monge equation may also be appropriately deformed, and that, if they exist at all orders, they are uniquely determined by the original deformation. This leads to either a new class of integrable systems or to a rigorous notion of an approximate integrable system. Quasi-Miura transformations are also constructed for such deformed equations.
A transforation between a hierarchy of integrable equations arising from the standard $R$-matrix construction on the algebra of differential operators and a hierarchy of integrable equations arising from a deformation of the standard $R$-matrix is given.
In this paper, we establish Liouville correspondences for the integrable two-component Camassa-Holm hierarchy, the two-component Novikov (Geng-Xue) hierarchy, and the two-component dual dispersive water wave hierarchy by means of the related Liouville transformations. This extends previous results on the scalar Camassa-Holm and KdV hierarchies, and the Novikov and Sawada-Kotera hierarchies to the multi-component case.
We consider an integrable scalar partial differential equation (PDE) that is second order in time. By rewriting it as a system and applying the Wahlquist-Estabrook prolongation algebra method, we obtain the zero curvature representation of the equation, which leads to a Lax representation in terms of an energy-dependent Schrödinger spectral problem of the type studied by Antonowicz and Fordy. The solutions of this PDE system, and of its associated hierarchy of commuting flows, display weak Painlevé behaviour, i.e. they have algebraic branching. By considering the travelling wave solutions of t…
Following the general results on the relationships about Backlund transformations (BTs) and exact discretisation given in a previous work [12], we consider the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy and a corresponding family of BTs. After discussing the boundary conditions, we show how to get explicit transformations. The Hamiltonian properties of the maps and of the discrete flows are examined. The conditions on the parameters of the map giving exact discretisations are discussed. Finally, analytical and numerical examples are given.
KdV6 equation can be described as the Kupershmidt deformation of the KdV equation (see 2008, Phys. Lett. A 372: 263). In this paper, starting from the bi-Hamiltonian structure of the discrete integrable system, we propose a generalized Kupershmidt deformation to construct new discrete integrable systems. Toda hierarchy, Kac-van Moerbeke hierarchy and Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy are considered. The Lax representations for these new deformed systems are presented. The generalized Kupershmidt deformation for the discrete integrable systems provides a new way to construct new discrete integrable syst…
A general form of the fifth-order nonlinear evolution equation is considered. Helmholtz solution of the inverse variational problem is used to derive conditions under which this equation admits an analytic representation. A Lennard type recursion operator is then employed to construct a hierarchy of Lagrangian equations. It is explicitly demonstrated that the constructed system of equations has a Lax representation and two compatible Hamiltonian structures. The homogeneous balance method is used to derive analytic soliton solutions of the third- and fifth-order equations.
Complete eigenfunctions of linearized integrable equations expanded around an arbitrary solution are obtained for the Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (AKNS) hierarchy and the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) hierarchy. It is shown that the linearization operators and the recursion operator which generates the hierarchy are commutable. Consequently, eigenfunctions of the linearization operators are precisely squared eigenfunctions of the associated eigenvalue problem. Similar results are obtained for the adjoint linearization operators as well. These results make a simple connection between the direct solito…
We introduce a class of integrable $l$-field first-order lattices together with corresponding Lax equations. These lattices may be represented as consistency condition for auxiliary linear systems defined on sequences of formal dressing operators. This construction provides simple way to build lattice Miura transformations between one-field lattice and $l$-field ($l\ge 2$) ones. We show that the lattices pertained to above class is in some sense compatible with KP flows and define the chains of constrained KP Lax operators.
It is shown that the dispersionless scalar integrable hierarchies and, in general, the universal Whitham hierarchy are nothing but classes of integrable deformations of quasiconformal mappings on the plane. Examples of deformations of quasiconformal mappings associated with explicit solutions of the dispersionless KP hierarchy are presented.
In this article, by means of using discrete zero curvature representation and constructing opportune time evolution problems, two new discrete integrable lattice hierarchies with n-dependent coefficients are proposed, which related to a new discrete Schrödinger nonisospectral operator equation. The relation of the two new lattice hierarchies with the Volterra hierarchy is discussed. It has been shown that one lattice hierarchy is equivalent to the positive Volterra hierarchy with n-dependent coefficients and another lattice hierarchy with isospectral problem is equivalent to the negative Volte…
Integrable equations in ($1 + 1$) dimensions have their own higher order integrable equations, like the KdV, mKdV and NLS hierarchies etc. In this paper we consider whether integrable equations in ($2 + 1$) dimensions have also the analogous hierarchies to those in ($1 + 1$) dimensions. Explicitly is discussed the Bogoyavlenskii-Schiff(BS) equation. For the BS hierarchy, there appears an ambiguity in the Painlevé test. Nevertheless, it may be concluded that the BS hierarchy is integrable.
This paper gives an integrable hierarchy of nonlinear evolution equations. In this hierarchy there are the following representative equations: \beqq & & u_t=\pa^5_x u^{-{2/3}}, & & u_t=\pa^5_x\frac{(u^{-{1/3}})_{xx} -2(u^{-{1/6}})_{x}^2}{u}; & & u_{xxt}+3u_{xx}u_x+u_{xxx}u=0. \eeqq The first two are in the positive order hierarchy while the 3rd one is in the negative order hierarchy. The whole hierarchy is shown integrable through solving a key $3\times 3 $ matrix equation. The $3\times3$ Lax pairs and their adjoint representations are nonlinearized to be two Liouville-integrable canonical Ham…
We construct a discrete analogue of the integrable two-dimensional Dirac operator and describe the spectral properties of its eigenfunctions. We construct an integrable discrete analogue of the modified Novikov-Veselov hierarchy. We derive the first two equations of the hierarchy and give explicit formulas for the eigenfunctions in terms of the theta-functions of the associated spectral curve.
In the framework of the reduction technique for Poisson-Nijenhuis structures, we derive a new hierarchy of integrable lattice, whose continuum limit is the AKNS hierarchy. In contrast with other differential-difference versions of the AKNS system, our hierarchy is endowed with a canonical Poisson structure and, moreover, it admits a vector generalisation. We also solve the associated spectral problem and explicity contruct action-angle variables through the r-matrix approach.
We preesent a new supersymmetric integrable extensions of the a=4,N=2 KdV hierarchy. The root of the supersymmetric Lax operator of the KdV equation is generalized, by including additional fields. This generalized root generate new hierarchy of integrable equations, for which we investigate the hamiltonian structure. In special case our system describes the interaction of the KdV equation with the two MKdV equations.
A theory for constructing integrable couplings of soliton equations is developed by using various perturbations around solutions of perturbed soliton equations being analytic with respect to a small perturbation parameter. Multi-scale perturbations can be taken and thus higher dimensional integrable couplings can be presented. The theory is applied to the KdV soliton hierarchy. Infinitely many integrable couplings are constructed for each soliton equation in the KdV hierarchy, which contain integrable couplings possessing quadruple Hamiltonian formulations and two classes of hereditary recursi…
We consider the four-dimensional reduced quasi-classical self-dual Yang--Mills equation and show that non-triviality of the second exotic cohomology group of its symmetry algebra implies existence of a two-component integrable generalization of this equation. The sequence of natural extensions of this symmetry algebra generate an integrable hierarchy of multi-dimensional nonlinear PDEs. We write out the first three elements of this hierarchy.
Analytic-bilinear approach for construction and study of integrable hierarchies, in particular, the KP hierarchy is discussed. It is based on the generalized Hirota identity. This approach allows to represent generalized hierarchies of integrable equations in a condensed form of finite functional equations. Resolution of these functional equations leads to the $τ$-function and addition formulae to it. General discrete transformations of the $τ$-function are presented in the determinant form. Closed one-form and other formulae also arise naturally within the approach proposed. Generalized KP hi…
The universal character is a generalization of the Schur function attached to a pair of partitions. We study an integrable system of q-difference equations satisfied by the universal characters, which is an extension of the q-KP hierarchy and is called the lattice q-UC hierarchy. We describe the lattice q-UC hierarchy as a compatibility condition of its associated linear system (Lax formalism) and explore an application to the q-Painleve equations via similarity reduction. In particular a higher-order analogue of the q-Painleve VI equation is presented.
In this paper, we study transfer functions corresponding to parametric linear systems whose coefficients are block matrices. Thus, these transfer functions constitute Laurent polynomials whose coefficients are square matrices. We assume that block matrices defining the parametric linear systems are solutions of an integrable hierarchy called for us, the block matrices version of the finite discrete KP hierarchy, which is introduced and studied with certain detail in this paper. We see that the linear system defined by means of the simplest solution of the integrable system is controllable and …
Realizing bosonic field v(x) as current of massless (chiral) fermions we derive hierarchy of quantum polynomial interactions of the field v(x) that are completely integrable and lead to linear evolutions for the fermionic field. It is proved that in the classical limit this hierarchy reduces to the dispersionless KdV hierarchy. Application of our construction to quantization of generic completely integrable interaction is demonstrated by example of the mKdV equation.
In the paper we construct an hierarchy of integrable Hamiltonian systems which describe the variation of n-wave envelopes in nonlinear dielectric medium. The exact solutions for some special Hamiltonians are given in terms of elliptic functions of the first kind.
Generalized Weierstrass representations for generic surfaces conformally immersed into four-dimensional Euclidean and pseudo-Euclidean spaces of different signatures are presented. Integrable deformations of surfaces in these spaces generated by the Davey-Stewartson hierarchy of integrable equations are proposed. Willmore functional of a surface is invariant under such deformations.
We present a theory of compatible differential constraints of a hydrodynamic hierarchy of infinite-dimensional systems. It provides a convenient point of view for studying and formulating integrability properties and it reveals some hidden structures of the theory of integrable systems. Illustrative examples and new integrable models are exhibited.
Analytic-bilinear approach for construction and study of integrable hierarchies is discussed. Generalized multicomponent KP and 2D Toda lattice hierarchies are considered. This approach allows to represent generalized hierarchies of integrable equations in a condensed form of finite functional equations. Generalized hierarchy incorporates basic hierarchy, modified hierarchy, singularity manifold equation hierarchy and corresponding linear problems. Different levels of generalized hierarchy are connected via invariants of Combescure symmetry transformation. Resolution of functional equations al…
By using the Lax approach we find the integrable hierarchy of the two and three field Kaup-Boussinesq equations. We then give a multi-component Kaup-Boussinesq equations and their recursion operators. Finally we show that all multi-component Kaup-Boussinesq equations are the degenerate Svinolupov KdV systems.
The paper reveals clear links between the differential-difference Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy and the (continuous) Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy, together with their symmetries, Hamiltonian structures and conserved quantities. They are connected through a uniform continuum limit. For the differential-difference Kadomtsev-Petviashvili system, we introduce Lax triads to generate isospectral and non-isospectral flows. This approach provides an integrable master symmetry and simple zero curvature representations of flows. The obtained flows are then proved to generate a Lie algebra w.r.t. …
We study $(1+1)$-dimensional integrable soliton equations with time-dependent defects located at $x=c(t)$, where $c(t)$ is a function of class $C^1$. We define the defect condition as a Bäcklund transformation evaluated at $x=c(t)$ in space rather than over the full line. We show that such a defect condition does not spoil the integrability of the system. We also study soliton solutions that can meet the defect for the system. An interesting discovery is that the defect system admits peaked soliton solutions.
Integrable hierarchies associated with the singular sector of the KP hierarchy, or equivalently, with $\dbar$-operators of non-zero index are studied. They arise as the restriction of the standard KP hierarchy to submanifols of finite codimension in the space of independent variables. For higher $\dbar$-index these hierarchies represent themselves families of multidimensional equations with multidimensional constraints. The $\dbar$-dressing method is used to construct these hierarchies. Hidden KdV, Boussinesq and hidden Gelfand-Dikii hierarchies are considered too.
A remarkable connection between soliton theory and an important and beautiful branch of the theory of graphical statics developed by Maxwell and his contemporaries is revealed. Thus, it is demonstrated that reciprocal triangles which constitute the simplest pair of reciprocal figures representing both a framework and a self-stress encapsulate the integrable discrete BKP equation and its Schwarzian version. The inherent Moebius invariant nature of the Schwarzian BKP equation is then exploited to define reciprocity in an inversive geometric setting. Integrable pairs of lattices of non-trivial co…
When both Hamiltonian operators of a bi-Hamiltonian system are pure differential operators, we show that the generalized Kupershmidt deformation (GKD) developed from the Kupershmidt deformation in \cite{kd} offers an useful way to construct new integrable system starting from the bi-Hamiltonian system. We construct some new integrable systems by means of the generalized Kupershmidt deformation in the cases of Harry Dym hierarchy, classical Boussinesq hierarchy and coupled KdV hierarchy. We show that the GKD of Harry Dym equation, GKD of classical Boussinesq equation and GKD of coupled KdV equa…
In our article "A tree of linearisable second-order evolution equations by generalised hodograph transformations" [J. Nonlin. Math. Phys. {\bf 8} (2001), 342-362] we presented a tree of linearisable (C-integrable) second-order evolution equations in (1+1) dimensions. Expanding this result we report here the complete set of recursion operators for this tree and present several linearisable (C-integrable) hierarchies in (1+1) dimensions.
The purpose of this paper is to develop the negative order MKdV hierarchy and to present a new related integrable Neumann-like Hamiltonian flow from the view point of inverse recursion operator and constraint method. The whole MKdV hierarchy both positive and negative is generated by the kernel elements of Lenard's operators pair and recursion operator. Through solving a key operator equation, the whole MKdV hierarchy is shown to have the Lax representation. In particular, some new integrable equation together with the Liouville equations, the sine-Gordon equation, and the sinh-Gordon equation…
We study the negative flows of the hierarchy of the integrable Heisenberg Ferromagnet model and their soliton solutions. The first negative flow is related to the so-called short pulse equation. We provide a framework which generates Lax pairs for the other members of the hierarchy. The Inverse scattering, based on the dressing method is illustrated with the derivation of the one-soliton solution.
