In this paper we answer the question: `what kind of a structure can a general multicategory be enriched in?' The answer is, in a sense to be made precise, that a multicategory of one type can be enriched in a multicategory of the type one level up.
In the case of ordinary categories this reduces to something surprising: a category may be enriched in an `fc-multicategory', a very general kind of 2-dimensional structure encompassing monoidal categories, plain multicategories, bicategories and double categories. (It turns out that fc-multicategories also provide a natural setting for the bimodules construction.) An extended application is given: the relaxed multicategories of Borcherds and Soibelman are explained in terms of enrichment.
We show that the free construction from multicategories to permutative categories is a categorically-enriched non-symmetric multifunctor. Our main result then shows that the induced functor between categories of algebras is an equivalence of homotopy theories. We describe an application to ring categories.
In this communication, motivated by a classical result that relates cocomplete quantale-enriched categories to modules over a quantale, we prove a similar result for quantale-enriched multicategories.
There is a free construction from multicategories to permutative categories, left adjoint to the endomorphism multicategory construction. The main result shows that these functors induce an equivalence of homotopy theories. This result extends a similar result of Thomason, that permutative categories model all connective spectra.
We provide a definition of enrichment that applies to a wide variety of categorical structures, generalizing Leinster's theory of enriched $T$-multicategories. As a sample of newly enrichable structures, we describe in detail the examples of enriched monoidal categories and enriched double categories, with a focus on monoidal double categories as broadly convenient bases of enrichment.
In this communication we generalize some recent results of Rump to categories enriched in a commutative quantale V. Using these results, we show that every quantale-enriched multicategory admits an injective hull. Finally, we expose a connection between the Isbell adjunction and the construction of injective hulls for topological spaces made by Banaschewski in 1973.
We introduce the theory of enrichment over an internal monoidal category as a common generalization of both the standard theories of enriched and internal categories. The aim of the paper is to justify and contextualize the new notion by comparing it to other known generalizations of enrichment: namely, those for indexed categories and for generalized multicategories. It turns out that both of these notions are closely related to internal enrichment and, as a corollary, to each other.
We extend the theory of Sweeder's measuring comonoids to the framework of duoidal categories: categories equipped with two compatible monoidal structures. We use one of the tensor products to endow the category of monoids for the other with an enrichment in the category of comonoids. The enriched homs are provided by the universal measuring comonoids. We study a number of duoidal structures on categories of graded objects and of species and the associated enriched categories, such as an enrichment of graded (twisted) monoids in graded (twisted) comonoids, as well as two enrichments of symmetri…
Enrichment and internal categories are two different way to generalize the notion of category. As such, enriching double categories (which are categories internal to Cat) is not a clear concepts. One can look at the internal categories of the category of C-enriched categories or the internal C-category in Cat. This concepts, unfortunately, are not powerful enough, even thin (posetal) double categories can't be seen this way. However, an orthogonal investigation, that of the enrichment by a double category, will help relaxing the internal C-category to a incorporate the internal categories of t…
For a braided fusion category $\mathcal{V}$, a $\mathcal{V}$-fusion category is a fusion category $\mathcal{C}$ equipped with a braided monoidal functor $\mathcal{F}:\mathcal{V} \to Z(\mathcal{C})$. Given a fixed $\mathcal{V}$-fusion category $(\mathcal{C}, \mathcal{F})$ and a fixed $G$-graded extension $\mathcal{C}\subseteq \mathcal{D}$ as an ordinary fusion category, we characterize the enrichments $\widetilde{\mathcal{F}}:\mathcal{V} \to Z(\mathcal{D})$ of $\mathcal{D}$ which are compatible with the enrichment of $\mathcal{C}$. We show that G-crossed extensions of a braided fusion category …
范畴环由Jibladze和Pirashvili在他们的论文“Third Mac Lane cohomology via categorical rings”,Journal of Homotopy and related structures,2,2007,187-216中引入。我们称之为“2环”。在这些注记中,我们给出了关于2-模的基本定义和结果。这是正在进行的工作。
We define a notion of category enriched over an oplax monoidal category $V$, extending the usual definition of category enriched over a monoidal category. Even though oplax monoidal structures involve infinitely many functors $V^n\to V$, defining categories enriched over $V$ only requires the lower arity maps $(n \leq 3)$, similarly to the monoidal case. The focal point of the enrichment theory shifts, in the oplax case, from the notion of $V$-category (given by collections of objects and hom-objects together with composition and unit maps) to the one of categories enriched over $V$ (genuine c…
We prove that given $\mathcal{C}$ a presentably symmetric monoidal $\infty$-category, and any essentially small $\infty$-operad $\mathcal{O}$, the $\infty$-category of $\mathcal{O}$-algebras in $\mathcal{C}$ is enriched, tensored and cotensored over the presentably symmetric monoidal $\infty$-category of $\mathcal{O}$-coalgebras in $\mathcal{C}$. We provide a higher categorical analogue of the universal measuring coalgebra. For categories in the usual sense, the result was proved by Hyland, López Franco, and Vasilakopoulou.
We introduce categories $\M$ and $§$ internal in the tricategory $\Bicat_3$ of bicategories, pseudofunctors, pseudonatural transformations and modifications, for matrices and spans in a 1-strict tricategory $V$. Their horizontal tricategories are the tricategories of matrices and spans in $V$. Both the internal and the enriched constructions are tricategorifications of the corresponding constructions in 1-categories. Following \cite{FGK} we introduce monads and their vertical morphisms in categories internal in tricategories. We prove an equivalent condition for when the internal categories fo…
The subject of this paper is the higher structure of the strictification adjunction, which relates the two fundamental bases of three-dimensional category theory: the $\mathbf{Gray}$-category of $2$-categories and the tricategory of bicategories. We show that -- far from requiring the full weakness provided by the definitions of tricategory theory -- this adjunction can be $\textit{strictly}$ enriched over the symmetric closed multicategory of bicategories defined by Verity. Moreover, we show that this adjunction underlies an adjunction of bicategory-enriched symmetric multicategories. An appe…
