We propose two possible definitions for the notion of a sampling sequence (or set) for Hardy spaces of the disk. The first one is inspired by recent work of Bruna, Nicolau, and Øyma about interpolating sequences in the same spaces, and it yields sampling sets which do not depend on the value of $p$ and correspond to the result proved for bounded functions ($p=\infty$) by Brown, Shields and Zeller. The second notion, while formally closer to the one used for weighted Bergman spaces, is shown to lead to trivial situations only, but raises a possibly interesting problem.
In this paper we completely characterize those weighted Hardy spaces that are Poletsky--Stessin Hardy spaces $H^p_u$. We also provide a reduction of $H^\infty$ problems to $H^p_u$ problems and demonstrate how such a reduction can be used to make shortcuts in the proofs of the interpolation theorem and corona problem.
In this paper we mainly discuss three things. First, there is no canonical norm on the space $H^p_u(\mathbb{D})$. Second, we improve the weak-$*$ convergence of the measures $μ_{u,r}$. Third, the dilations $f_t$ of the function $f\in H^p_u(\mathbb{D})$ converge to $f$ in $H^p_u$-norm and hence the polynomials are dense in $H^p_u(\mathbb{D})$.
In this paper we study the boundary values of harmonic and holo- morphic functions in the weighted Hardy spaces on the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$. These spaces were introduced by Poletsky and Stessin in [6] for plurisubharmonic functions on hyperconvex domains $D \subset \mathbb{C}^n$ as generalizations of classical Hardy spaces. We show that in the case when $D$ is the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ the theory of boundary values for functions in these spaces is analogous to the classical one.
We prove necessary and sufficient integral conditions involving extremal distance for a conformal mapping of the unit disk to belong to the Hardy or weighted Bergman spaces. We also give characterizations for the Hardy number and the Bergman number of a simply connected domain in terms of extremal distance.
We study the maximal number $0\le h\le+\infty$ for a given plane domain $Ω$ such that $f\in H^p$ whenever $p<h$ and $f$ is analytic in the unit disk with values in $Ω.$ One of our main contributions is an estimate of $h$ for unbounded $K$-quasidisks.
We define a new type of Hardy-Orlicz spaces of conformal mappings on the unit disk where in place of the value |f(x)| we consider the intrinsic path distance between f(x) and f(0) in the image domain. We show that if the Orlicz function is doubling then these two spaces are actually the same, and we give an example when the intrinsic Hardy-Orlicz space is strictly smaller.
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a measure $μ$ in the closed unit disk to be a reverse Carleson measure for Hardy spaces. This extends a previous result of Lefévre, Li, Queffélec and Rodr\'ıguez-Piazza \cite{LLQR}. We also provide a simple example showing that the analogue for the Paley-Wiener space does not hold. This example can be generalised to model spaces associated to one-component inner functions.
Let $\mathcal{D}$ be the class of radial weights on the unit disk which satisfy both forward and reverse doubling conditions. Let $g$ be an analytic function on the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$. We characterize bounded and compact Volterra type integration operators \[ J_{g}(f)(z)=\int_{0}^{z}f(λ)g'(λ)dλ\] between weighted Bergman spaces $L_{a}^{p}(ω)$ induced by $\mathcal{D}$ weights and Hardy spaces $H^{q}$ for $0<p,q<\infty$.
Čučković and Paudyal recently characterized the lattice of invariant subspaces of the shift plus a complex Volterra operator on the Hilbert space $H^2$ on the unit disk. Motivated by the idea of Ong, in this paper, we give a complete characterization of the lattice of invariant subspaces of the shift operator plus a positive integer multiple of the Volterra operator on Hardy spaces $H^p$, which essentially extends their works to the more general cases when $1\leq p<\infty$.
Inner functions play a central role in function theory and operator theory on the Hardy space over the unit disk. Motivated by recent works of C. Bénéteau et al. and of D. Seco, we discuss inner functions on more general weighted Hardy spaces and investigate a method to construct analogues of finite Blaschke products.
A description of the Bloch functions that can be approximated in the Bloch norm by functions in the Hardy space $H^p$ of the unit ball of $\Cn$ for $0<p<\infty$ is given. When $0<p\leq1$, the result is new even in the case of the unit disk.
Given a sequence of points in the unit disk, a well known result due to Carleson states that if given any point of the sequence it is possible to interpolate the value one in that point and zero in all the other points of the sequence, with uniform control of the norm in the Hardy space of bounded analytic functions on the disk, then the sequence is an interpolating sequence (i.e.\ every bounded sequence of values can be interpolated by functions in the Hardy space). It turns out that such a result holds in other spaces. In this short note we would like to show that for a given sequence it is …
We prove that a conformal mapping defined on the unit disk belongs to a weighted Bergman space if and only if certain integrals involving the harmonic measure converge. With the aid of this theorem, we give a geometric characterization of conformal mappings in Hardy or weighted Bergman spaces by studying Euclidean areas. Applying these results, we prove several consequences for such mappings that extend known results for Hardy spaces to weighted Bergman spaces. Moreover, we introduce a number which is the analogue of the Hardy number for weighted Bergman spaces. We derive various expressions f…
The main purpose of this work is to establish some logarithmic estimates of optimal type in the Hardy-Sobolev space $H^{k, \infty}; k \in {\mathbb{N}}^*$ of an annular domain. These results are considered as a continuation of a previous study in the setting of the unit disk by L. Baratchart and M. Zerner: On the recovery of functions from pointwise boundary values in a Hardy-sobolev class of the disk. J.Comput.Apll.Math 46(1993), 255-69 and by S. Chaabane and I. Feki: Logarithmic stability estimates in Hardy-Sobolev spaces $H^{k,\infty}$. C.R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 347(2009), 1001-1006. As …
Let $ψ$ be a conformal map of the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ onto an unbounded domain and, for $α>0$, let ${F_α}=\left\{ {z \in \mathbb{D}:\left| {ψ\left( z \right)} \right| = α} \right\}$. If ${H^p}\left( \mathbb{D} \right)$ denotes the classical Hardy space and $d_\mathbb{D} {\left( {0,{F_α}} \right)}$ denotes the hyperbolic distance between $0$ and $F_α$ in $\mathbb{D}$, we prove that $ψ$ belongs to ${H^p}\left( \mathbb{D} \right)$ if and only if \[\int_0^{ + \infty } {α^{p - 1}{e^{ - {d_{\mathbb{D}}}\left( {0,{F_α}} \right)}}dα} < + \infty .\] This result answers a question posed by P. Poggi-C…
We introduce a variable exponent version of the Hardy space of analytic functions on the unit disk, we show some properties of the space, and give an example of a variable exponent $p(\cdot)$ that satisfies the $\log$-Hölder condition such that $H^{p(\cdot)}\neq H^q$ for any constant exponent $1<q<\infty$. We also consider the variable exponent version of the Hardy space on the upper-half plane.
We obtain new characterizations of Bergman and Bloch spaces on the unit disc involving equivalent (quasi)-norms of these spaces. Our results are in spirit of estimates obtained by Fefferman and Stein for HArdy spaces in R^n.
We are concerned with Hardy and BMO spaces of operator-valued functions analytic in the unit disk of $\mathbb{C}.$ In the case of the Hardy space, we involve the atomic decomposition since the usual argument in the scalar setting is not suitable. Several properties (the Garsia-norm equivalent theorem, Carleson measure, and so on) of BMOA spaces are extended to the operator-valued setting. Then, the operator-valued $\mathrm{H}^1$-BMOA duality theorem is proved. Finally, by the $\mathrm{H}^1$-BMOA duality we present the Lusin area integral and Littlewood-Paley $g$-function characterizations of t…
We continue the work of \cite{TLNT}. Let $E$ be a non-Blaschke subset of the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ of the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$. Fixed $1\leq p\leq \infty$, let $H^p(\mathbb{D})$ be the Hardy space of holomorphic functions in the disk whose boundary value function is in $L^p(\partial \mathbb{D})$. Fixed $0<R<1$. For $ε>0$ define C_p(\varepsilon, R) = \sup \{\sup_{|z| \leq R}|g(z)|: g\in H^p, \|g\|_p\leq 1, |g(ζ)| \leq \varepsilon \forall ζ\in E\}. In this paper we find upper and lower bounds for $C_p(ε, R)$ when $ε$ is small for any non-Blaschke set $E$. The bounds are nearly-optimal for…
We study the boundedness of composition operators on the bidisk using reproducing kernels. We show that a composition operator is bounded on the Hardy space of the bidisk if some associated function is a positive kernel. This positivity condition naturally leads to the study of the sub-Hardy Hilbert spaces of the bidisk, which are analogs of de Branges-Rovnyak spaces on the unit disk. We discuss multipliers of those spaces and obtain some classes of bounded composition operators on the bidisk.
Let $D$ be a domain in the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$. The Hardy number of $D$, which first introduced by Hansen, is the maximal number $h(D)$ in $[0,+\infty]$ such that $f$ belongs to the classical Hardy space $H^p (\mathbb{D})$ whenever $0<p<h(D)$ and $f$ is holomorphic on the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ with values in $D$. As an analogue notion to the Hardy number of a domain $D$ in $\mathbb{C}$, we introduce the Bergman number of $D$ and we denote it by $b(D)$. Our main result is that, if $D$ is regular, then $h(D)=b(D)$. This generalizes earlier work by the author and Karamanlis for simply con…
Given a Banach space $X$ and $1 \leq p \leq \infty$, it is well known that the two Hardy spaces $H_p(\mathbb{T},X)$ ($\mathbb{T}$ the torus) and $H_p(\mathbb{D},X)$ ($\mathbb{D}$ the disk) have to be distinguished carefully. This motivates us to define and study two different types of Hardy spaces $\mathcal{H}_p(X)$ and $\mathcal{H}^+_p(X)$ of Dirichlet series $\sum_n a_n n^{-s}$ with coefficients in $X$. We characterize them in terms of summing operators as well as holomorphic functions in infinitely many variables, and prove that they coincide whenever $X$ has the analytic Radon-Nikodým Prop…
Carleson measures and interpolating and sampling sequences for weighted Bergman spaces on the unit disk are described for weights that are radial and grow faster than the standard weights $(1-|z|)^{-α}$, $0<α<1$. These results make the Hardy space $H^2$ appear naturally as a "degenerate" endpoint case for the class of Bergman spaces under study.
We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a weighted composition operator to be co-isometric on a general weighted Hardy space of analytic functions in the unit disk whose reproducing kernel has the usual natural form. This turns out to be equivalent to the property of being unitary. The result reveals a dichotomy identifying a specific family of weighted Hardy spaces as the only ones that support non-trivial operators of this kind.
Introduced by Coifman, Meyer, and Stein, the tent spaces have seen wide applications in Harmonic Analysis. Their analytic cousins have seen some applications involving the derivatives of Hardy space functions. Moreover, the tent spaces have been a recent focus of research. We introduce the concept of interpolating and sampling sequences for analytic tent spaces analogously to the same concepts for Bergman spaces. We then characterize such sequences in terms of Seip's upper and lower uniform density. We accomplish this by exploiting a kind of Möbius invariance for the tent spaces.
We study connections between orthogonal polynomials, reproducing kernel functions, and polynomials $p$ minimizing Dirichlet-type norms $\|pf-1\|_α$ for a given function $f$. For $α\in [0,1]$ (which includes the Hardy and Dirichlet spaces of the disk) and general $f$, we show that such extremal polynomials are non-vanishing in the closed unit disk. For negative $α$, the weighted Bergman space case, the extremal polynomials are non-vanishing on a disk of strictly smaller radius, and zeros can move inside the unit disk. We also explain how $\mathrm{dist}_{D_α}(1,f\cdot \mathcal{P}_n)$, where $\ma…
We give a complete description of the possible ranges of real Smirnov functions (quotients of two bounded analytic functions on the open unit disk where the denominator is outer and such that the radial boundary values are real almost everywhere on the unit circle). Our techniques use the theory of unbounded symmetric Toeplitz operators, some general theory of unbounded symmetric operators, classical Hardy spaces, and an application of the uniformization theorem. In addition, we completely characterize the possible valences for these real Smirnov functions when the valence is finite. To do so …
The classical embedding theorem of Carleson deals with finite positive Borel measures $μ$ on the closed unit disk for which there exists a positive constant $c$ such that $|f|_{L^2(μ)} \leq c |f|_{H^2}$ for all $f \in H^2$, the Hardy space of the unit disk. Lefévre et al. examined measures $μ$ for which there exists a positive constant $c$ such that $\|f\|_{L^2(μ)} \geq c |f|_{H^2}$ for all $f \in H^2$. The first type of inequality above was explored with $H^2$ replaced by one of the model spaces $(ΘH^2)^{\perp}$ by Aleksandrov, Baranov, Cohn, Treil, and Volberg. In this paper we discuss the s…
This paper introduces the classically successful theory of Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space over the unit disk to a new domain in $\mathbb C^d$ -- the symmetrized polydisk.
Let $E$ be a Banach lattice on $\mathbb Z$ having order continuous norm. We show that for any function $f = \{f_j\}_{j \in \mathbb Z}$ from the Hardy space $H_\infty (E)$ such that $δ\leqslant \|f (z)\|_E \leqslant 1$ for all $z$ from the unit disk $\mathbb D$ there exists some solution $g = \{g_j\}_{j \in \mathbb Z} \in H_\infty (E')$, $\|g\|_{H_\infty (E')} \leqslant C_δ$ of the Bézout equation $\sum_j f_j g_j = 1$, also known as the vector-valued corona problem with data in $H_\infty (E)$.
In this paper we characterize the zero sets of functions from $\ell^{p}_{A}$ (the analytic functions on the open unit disk $D$ whose Taylor coefficients form an $\ell^p$ sequence) by developing a concept of an "inner function" modeled by Beurling's discussion of the Hilbert space $\ell^{2}_{A}$ (the classical Hardy space). The zero set criterion is used to construct families of zero sets which are not covered by classical results. In particular, it is proved that when $p > 2$, there are zero sets for $\ell^{p}_{A}$ which are not Blaschke sequences.
We propose a definition of sampling set for the Nevanlinna class in the disk, i.e. a subset of the disk such that the analogue of the norm of a function in the Nevanlinna class can be recovered only from its values on the subset. We show it is equivalent with the notion of determination set for the same class, that is, subsets such that any function in the class which is bounded on the subset must be bounded everywhere (by the same bound, in fact); and more restrictive than the condition of being a determination set for the class of differences of positive harmonic functions (which had been st…
We study the closure in the Hardy space or the disk algebra of algebras generated by two bounded functions, of which one is a finite Blaschke product. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for density or finite codimension of such algebras. The conditions are expressed in terms of the inner part of a function which is explicitly derived from each pair of generators. Our results are based on identifying z-invariant subspaces included in the closure of the algebra. Versions of these results for the case of the disk algebra are given.
Let $θ$ be an inner function on the unit disk, and let $K^p_θ:=H^p\capθ\overline{H^p_0}$ be the associated star-invariant subspace of the Hardy space $H^p$, with $p\ge1$. While a nontrivial function $f\in K^p_θ$ is never divisible by $θ$, it may have a factor $h$ which is "not too different" from $θ$ in the sense that the ratio $h/θ$ (or just the anti-analytic part thereof) is smooth on the circle. In this case, $f$ is shown to have additional integrability and/or smoothness properties, much in the spirit of the Hardy--Littlewood--Sobolev embedding theorem. The appropriate norm estimates are e…
