Orlicz-Lorentz spaces provide a common generalization of Orlicz spaces and Lorentz spaces. They have been studied by many authors, including Mastyło, Maligranda, and Kamińska. In this paper, we consider the problem of comparing the Orlicz-Lorentz norms, and establish necessary and sufficient conditions for them to be equivalent. As a corollary, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a Lorentz-Sharpley space to be equivalent to an Orlicz space, extending results of Lorentz and Raynaud. We also give an example of a rearrangement invariant space that is not an Orlicz-Lorentz space.
In this paper the necessary and sufficient conditions were given for Orlicz-Lorentz function space endowed with the Orlicz norm having non-squareness and local uniform non-squareness.
Orlicz-Lorentz spaces provide a common generalization of Orlicz spaces and Lorentz spaces. In this paper, we investigate their Boyd indices. Bounds on the Boyd indices in terms of the Matuszewska-Orlicz indices of the defining functions are given. Also, we give an example to show that the Boyd indices and Zippin indices of an Orlicz-Lorentz space need not be equal, answering a question of Maligranda. Finally, we show how the Boyd indices are related to whether an Orlicz-Lorentz space is p-convex or q-concave.
In this paper, we investige the concept of expansivity for composition operators on Orlicz-Lorentz spaces. We study necessary and sufficient conditions for expansivity, positive expansivity and uniformly expansivity for composition operators $C_τ$ on $\mathbb{L}^{φ,h}(μ)$. We extend the of results of [15] into Orlicz-Lorentz spaces
We prove in this article the generalizations on the exponential Orlicz spaces Markov's - Bernstein's inequalities for algebraic polynomials and rational functions.
In this paper, we study the Li-Yorke chaotic composition operators on Orlicz-Lorentz space. In fact, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for Li-Yorke chaotic composition operator $C_τ$ on $\mathbb{L}^{φ,h}(μ)$. Further, we present the equivalent conditions for $C_τ$ to be Li-Yorke chaotic. This paper's results are the generalization of results of [15] into Orlicz-Lorentz spaces.
We provide explicit formulas for the norm of bounded linear functionals on Orlicz-Lorentz function spaces $Λ_{φ,w}$ equipped with two standard Luxemburg and Orlicz norms. Any bounded linear functional is a sum of regular and singular functionals, and we show that the norm of a singular functional is the same regardless of the norm in the space, while the formulas of the norm of general functionals are different for the Luxemburg and Orlicz norm. The relationship between equivalent definitions of the modular $P_{φ,w}$ generating the dual space to Orlicz-Lorentz space is discussed in order to co…
We describe the Lorentz space $L(p, r), 0 < r < p, p > 1$, in terms of Orlicz type classes of functions L . As a consequence of this result it follows that Stein's characterization of the real functions on $R^n$ that are differentiable at almost all the points in $R^n$, is equivalent to the earlier characterization of those functions given by A. P. Calderon.
Let $f \in M_+(\mathbb{R}_+)$, the class of nonnegative, Lebesgure-measurable functions on $\mathbb{R}_+=(0, \infty)$. We deal with integral operators of the form \[ (T_Kf)(x)=\int_{\mathbb{R}_+}K(x,y)f(y)\, dy, \quad x \in \mathbb{R}_+, \] with $K \in M_+(\mathbb{R}_+^2)$.
Given an Orlicz $N$-function $φ$ and a positive decreasing weight $w$, we present criteria of the diameter two property and of the Radon-Nikodým property in Orlicz-Lorentz function and sequence spaces $Λ_{φ,w}$ and $λ_{φ,w}$. We show that in the spaces $Λ_{φ,w}$ or $λ_{φ,w}$ equipped with the Luxemburg norm, the diameter of any relatively weakly subset of the unit ball in these spaces is two if and only if $φ$ does not satisfy the appropriate $Δ_2$ condition, while they have the Radon-Nikodým property if and only if $φ$ satisfies the appropriate $Δ_2$ condition.
In this paper, based on concepts of convex sets and convex functions, we introduce new concepts of functions, Young functions, strong Young functions and Orlicz functions by relaxing definitions of functions, Young functions, strong Young functions, Orlicz functions respectively. We also give concepts of Orlicz spaces, weak Orlicz spaces, Orlicz Sobolev spaces, weak Orlicz Sobolev spaces, Orlicz Morrey spaces and weak Orlicz Morrey spaces, Orlicz Lorentz spaces and weak Orlicz Lorentz spaces. In addition, we consider the implicit properties based on the effect of an operator on the functions a…
Using a nonlinear version of the well known Hardy-Littlewood inequalities, we derive new formulas for decreasing rearrangements of functions and sequences in the context of convex functions. We use these formulas for deducing several properties of the modular functionals defining the function and sequence spaces $M_{φ,w}$ and $m_{φ,w}$ respectively, introduced earlier in \cite{HKM} for describing the Köthe dual of ordinary Orlicz-Lorentz spaces in a large variety of cases ($φ$ is an Orlicz function and $w$ a {\it decreasing} weight). We study these $M_{φ,w}$ classes in the most general setting…
For an Orlicz function $φ$ and a decreasing weight $w$, two intrinsic exact descriptions are presented for the norm in the Köthe dual of an Orlicz-Lorentz function space $Λ_{φ,w}$ or a sequence space $λ_{φ,w}$, equipped with either Luxemburg or Amemiya norms. The first description of the dual norm is given via the modular $\inf\{\intφ_*(f^*/|g|)|g|: g\prec w\}$, where $f^*$ is the decreasing rearrangement of $f$, $g\prec w$ denotes the submajorization of $g$ by $w$ and $φ_*$ is the complementary function to $φ$. The second one is stated in terms of the modular $\int_I φ_*((f^*)^0/w)w$, where $…
In this article, we show that Orlicz-Lorentz spaces $\ell^n_{M,a}$, $n\in\mathbb N$ with Orlicz function $M$ and weight sequence $a$ are uniformly isomorphic to subspaces of $L_1$ if the norm $\|\cdot\|_{M,a}$ satisfies certain Hardy-type inequalities. This includes the embedding of some Lorentz spaces $d^n(a,p)$. Our approach is based on combinatorial averaging techniques and we prove a new result of independent interest that relates suitable averages with Orlicz-Lorentz norms.
We extend the definition of the centroid body operator to an Orlicz--Lorentz centroid body operator on the star bodies in $\mathbb R^n$, and establish the sharp affine isoperimetric inequality that bounds (from below) the volume of the Orlicz--Lorentz centroid body of any convex body containing the origin in its interior by the volume of this convex body.
In this paper, we consider the predual spaces of weak Orlicz spaces. As an application, we provide the Fefferman-Stein vector-valued maximal inequality for the weak Orlicz spaces. In order to prove this statement, we introduced the Orlicz-Lorentz spaces, and showed the boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator on these spaces.
Given a fully symmetric Banach function space $E$ and a decreasing positive weight $w$ on $I = (0, a)$, $0 < a \le \infty $, the generalized Lorentz space $Λ_{E,w}$ is defined as the symmetrization of the canonical copy $E_w$ of $E$ on the measure space associated with the weight. If $E$ is an Orlicz space then $Λ_{E,w}$ is an Orlicz-Lorentz space. An investigation of the Köthe duality of these classes is developed that is parallel to preceding works on Orlicz-Lorentz spaces. First a class of functions $M_{E,w}$, which does not need to be even a linear space, is similarly defined as the symme…
The optimal Orlicz target space is exhibited for embeddings of fractional-order Orlicz-Sobolev spaces in $\mathbb R^n$. An improved embedding with an Orlicz-Lorentz target space, which is optimal in the broader class of all rearrangement-invariant spaces, is also established. Both spaces of order $s\in (0,1)$, and higher-order spaces are considered. Related Hardy type inequalities are proposed as well. An extension theorem is proved, that enables us to derive embeddings for spaces defined in Lipschitz domains. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the compactness of fractional Orlicz-Sobolev…
Suppose that a real nonatomic function space on $[0,1]$ is equipped with two re\-arran\-ge\-ment-invariant norms $\|\cdot\|$ and $|||\cdot|||$. We study the question whether or not the fact that $(X,\|\cdot\|)$ is isometric to $(X,|||\cdot|||)$ implies that $\|f\|= |||f|||$ for all $f$ in $X$. We show that in strictly monotone Orlicz and Lorentz spaces this is equivalent to asking whether or not the norms are defined by equal Orlicz functions, resp. Lorentz weights. We show that the above implication holds true in most rearrangement-invariant spaces, but we also identify a class of Orlicz spac…
Characterizations are given for 1-complemented hyperplanes of strictly monotone real Lorentz spaces and 1-complemented finite codimensional subspaces (which contain at least one basis element) of real Orlicz spaces equipped with either Luxemburg or Orlicz norm.
In this paper, we study the existence of infinite dimensional closed linear subspaces of a rearrangement invariant space on [0,1] every nonzero element of which does not belong to any included rearrangement invariant space of the same class such that the inclusion operator is disjointly strictly singular. We consider Lorentz, Marcinkiewicz and Orlicz spaces. The answer is affirmative for Marcinkiewicz spaces and negative for Lorentz and Orlicz spaces. Also, the same problem is studied for Nakano spaces assuming different hypothesis.
Let G be a discrete group. Suppose that the reduced group C*-algebra of G is simple. We use results of Kalantar-Kennedy and Haagerup, and Banach space interpolation, to prove that, for p in (1,infinity), the reduced group L^p operator algebra F^p_r(G) and its *-analog B^{p,*}_r(G) are simple. If G is countable, we prove that the Banach algebras generated by the left regular representations on reflexive Orlicz sequence spaces and certain Lorentz sequence spaces are also simple. We prove analogous results with simplicity replaced by the unique trace property. For use in the Orlicz sequence space…
We prove optimal embeddings for nonlinear approximation spaces in terms of weighted Lorentz sequence spaces, with the weights depending on the democracy functions of the basis. As applications we recover known embeddings for $N$-term wavelet approximation in Lebesgue, Orlicz, and Lorentz norms. We also study the "greedy classes" introduced by Gribonval and Nielsen.
In this paper, equivalence between interpolation properties of linear operators and monotonicity conditions are studied, for a pair $(X_0,X_1)$ of rearrangement invariant quasi Banach spaces, when the extreme spaces of the interpolation are $L^\infty$ and a pair $(A_0,A_1)$ under some assumptions. Weak and restricted weak intermediate spaces fall in our context. Applications to classical Lorentz and Lorentz-Orlicz spaces are given.
Relatively recently it was proved that if $Γ$ is an arbitrary set, then any equivalent norm on $c_0(Γ)$ can be approximated uniformly on bounded sets by polyhedral norms and $C^\infty$ smooth norms, with arbitrary precision. We extend this result to more classes of spaces having uncountable symmetric bases, such as preduals of the `discrete' Lorentz spaces $d(w,1,Γ)$, and certain symmetric Nakano spaces and Orlicz spaces. We also show that, given an arbitrary ordinal number $α$, there exists a scattered compact space $K$ having Cantor-Bendixson height at least $α$, such that every equivalent n…
We reformulate, modify and extend a comparison criteria of $L^{p}$ norms obtained by Nazarov-Podkorytov and place it in the general setting of interpolation theory and majorization theory. In particular, we give norm comparison criteria for general scales of interpolation spaces, including non-commutative $L^{p}$ and Lorentz spaces. As an application, we extend the classical Ball's integral inequality, which lies at the basis of his famous result on sections of the $n-$dimensional unit cube.
