A smooth, projective surface $S$ of general type is said to be a \emph{standard isotrivial fibration} if there exist a finite group $G$ which acts faithfully on two smooth projective curves $C$ and $F$ so that $S$ is isomorphic to the minimal desingularization of $T:=(C \times F)/G$. If $T$ is smooth then $S=T$ is called a $\emph{quasi-bundle}$. In this paper we classify the standard isotrivial fibrations with $p_g=q=1$ which are not quasi-bundles, assuming that all the singularities of $T$ are rational double points. As a by-product, we provide several new examples of minimal surfaces of general type with $p_g=q=1$ and $K_S^2=4,6$.
A fibration is said to be isotrivial if all of its smooth fibres are isomorphic to a single fixed variety. We classify the elliptic K3 surfaces that are isotrivial, and use them to construct Lagrangian fibrations that are isotrivial. We then modify the construction to produce new examples of holomorphic symplectic orbifolds, that also admit isotrivial Lagrangian fibrations.
A smooth, projective surface $S$ is called a $\emph{standard isotrivial fibration}$ if there exists a finite group $G$ which acts faithfully on two smooth projective curves $C$ and $F$ so that $S$ is isomorphic to the minimal desingularization of $T:=(C \times F)/G$. Standard isotrivial fibrations of general type with $p_g=q=1$ have been classified in \cite{Pol07} under the assumption that $T$ has only Rational Double Points as singularities. In the present paper we extend this result, classifying all cases where $S$ is a minimal model. As a by-product, we provide the first examples of minimal…
We classify all the surfaces of general type whose canonical map is composed with a pencil if they are the quotient of the diagonal action by an Abelian group acting over the product of two curves. As far as we know all the previous examples with isotrivial canonical map are very particular cases of our construction; moreover we find an unexpected action by a group of order 16. This construction can be easily generalizable to all dimensions.
In this paper we investigate the numerical properties of relatively minimal isotrivial fibrations $φ\colon X \lr C$, where $X$ is a smooth, projective surface and $C$ is a curve. In particular we prove that, if $g(C) \geq 1$ and $X$ is neither ruled nor isomorphic to a quasi-bundle, then $K_X^2 \leq 8 χ(\mO_X)-2$; this inequality is sharp and if equality holds then $X$ is a minimal surface of general type whose canonical model has precisely two ordinary double points as singularities. Under the further assumption that $K_X$ is ample, we obtain $K_X^2 \leq 8 χ(\mO_X)-5$ and the inequality is al…
In this paper, we study the ordinarity of an isotrivial elliptic surface defined over a field of positive characteristic. If an isotrivial elliptic fibration $π:X \to C$ is given, $X$ is ordinary when the common fiber of $π$ is ordinary and a certain finite cover of the base $C$ is ordinary. By this result, we may obtain the ordinary reduction theorem for some kinds of isotrivial elliptic fibrations.
We show, using [14], that a smooth projective fibration f : X $\rightarrow$ Y between connected complex quasi-projective manifolds satisfies the equality $κ$(X) = $κ$(X y) + $κ$(Y) of Logarithmic Kodaira dimensions if its fibres X y admit a good minimal model. Without the last assumption, this was conjectured in [11]. Several cases are established in [13], which inspired the present text. Although the present results overlap with those of [13] in the projective case, the approach here is different, based on the r{ô}le played by birationally isotrivial fibrations, special manifolds and the core…
A Kodaira fibration is a non-isotrivial fibration $f\colon S\rightarrow B$ from a smooth algebraic surface $S$ to a smooth algebraic curve $B$ such that all fibers are smooth algebraic curves of genus $g$. Such fibrations arise as complete curves inside the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_g$ of genus $g$ algebraic curves. We investigate here the possible connected monodromy groups of a Kodaira fibration in the case $g=3$ and classify which such groups can arise from a Kodaira fibration obtained as a general complete intersection curve inside a subvariety of $\mathcal{M}_3$ parametrizing curves whose…
Let $alb_X: X \rightarrow A$ be the Albanese map of a smooth projective variety and $f: X \rightarrow Y$ the fibration from the Stein factorization of $alb_X$. For a positive integer $m$, if $f$ and $m$ satisfy the assumptions AS(1,2), then the translates through the origin of all components of cohomological locus $V^0(ω_X^m, alb_X)$ generates $I^*Pic^0(S)$ where $I: X \rightarrow S$ denotes the Iitaka fibration. This result applies to studying pluricanonical maps. We also considered the problem about whether a fibration is isotrivial and isogenous to a product.
We prove that the genus $g$, the relative irregularity $q_f$ and the Clifford index $c_f$ of a non-isotrivial fibration $f$ satisfy the inequality $q_f \leq g - c_f$. This gives in particular a proof of Xiao's conjecture for fibrations whose general fibres have maximal Clifford index.
Let $ϕ:X\rightarrow B$ be a Lagrangian fibration on a projective irreducible hyper-Kähler manifold of dimension $\leq8$. Let $M\in {\rm Pic}\,X$ be a line bundle whose restriction to the general fiber $X_b$ of $ϕ$ is topologically trivial. We prove that if the fibration has maximal variation or is isotrivial, the set of points $b$ such that the restriction $M_{\mid X_b}$ is torsion is dense in $B$. We give an application to the Chow ring of $X$. We prove a similar result for elliptic fibrations which gives a toy model for the argument.
We describe the minimal number of critical points and the minimal number $s$ of singular fibres for a non isotrivial fibration of a surface $S$ over a curve $B$ of genus $1$, constructing a fibration with $s=1$ and irreducible singular fibre with $4$ nodes. Then we consider the associated factorizations in the mapping class group and in the symplectic group. We describe explicitly which products of transvections on homologically independent and disjoint circles are a commutator in the Symplectic group $Sp (2g, \mathbb{Z})$.
Let $f:X@>>>\Bbb P^1$ be a fibered surface with fibers of genus g>1. If f is semistable and non isotrivial we prove that X of non negative Kodaira dimension implies that the number s of singular fibers is at least 5. Information about the nature of X if s=6,5 and g<6 is given. If f is any relatively minimal fibration we bound by below K_f^2, the bound depending on g and the Kodaira dimension of X, a classification of rational surfaces with minimal K_f^2 is given. Moreover, we prove several properties of positivity for the linear system K_X+F (F a fibre of f). Examples of a K3 surfaces admittin…
We study the minimal complex surfaces of general type with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=7$ or 8 whose bicanonical map is not birational. In the paper 'The bicanonical map of surfaces with $p_g=0$ and $K^2\ge 7$' we have shown that if $S$ is such a surface, then the bicanonical map has degree 2. Here we describe precisely such surfaces showing that there is a fibration $f\colon S\to \pp^1$ such that: i) the general fibre $F$ of $f$ is a genus 3 hyperelliptic curve; ii) the involution induced by the bicanonical map of $S$ restricts to the hyperelliptic involution of $F$. Furthermore, if $K^2_S=8$, then $f$ …
In 1982 V.G. Sarkisov proved the existense of standard models of conic fibrations over algebraically closed fields of $\operatorname{char}\neq 2$. In this paper we will prove the analogous result for three-dimensional conic fibrations over arbitrary fields of characteristic zero with a finite group action.
We construct a standard birational model (a model that has Gorenstein canonical singularities) for the three-dimensional del Pezzo fibrations ${ π\colon X \longrightarrow C }$ of degree $1$ and relative Picard number $1$. We also embed the standard model into the relative weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}_C (1,1,2,3)$. Our construction works in the $G$-equivariant category where $G$ is a finite group.
Let $C$ be a smooth projective curve and $G$ a finite subgroup of $\mathrm{Aut}(C)^2\rtimes \mathbb Z_2$ whose action is \textit{mixed}, i.e.~there are elements in $G$ exchanging the two isotrivial fibrations of $C\times C$. Let $G^0\triangleleft G$ be the index two subgroup $G\cap\mathrm{Aut}(C)^2$. If $G^0$ acts freely, then $X:=(C\times C)/G$ is smooth and we call it \textit{semi-isogenous mixed surface}. In this paper we give an algorithm to determine semi-isogenous mixed surfaces with given geometric genus, irregularity and self-intersection of the canonical class. As an application we cl…
We investigate the Lefschetz standard conjecture for degree $2$ cohomology of hyper-Kähler manifolds admitting a covering by Lagrangian subvarieties. In the case of a Lagrangian fibration, we show that the Lefschetz standard conjecture is implied by the SYZ conjecture characterizing classes of divisors associated with Lagrangian fibration. In dimension $4$, we consider the more general case of a Lagrangian covered fourfold $X$, and prove the Lefschetz standard conjecture in degree $2$, assuming $ρ(X)=1$ and $X$ is general in moduli. Finally we discuss various links between Lefschetz cycles and…
We prove a criterion of nonsingularity of a complete intersection of two fiberwise quadrics in a scroll over $P^1$. As a corollary we derive the following addition to the Alexeev theorem on rationality of standard Del Pezzo fibrations of degree 4 over $P^1$: we prove that any fibration of this kind with the topological Euler characteristic -4 is rational.
Motivated by the picture of mirror symmetry suggested by Strominger, Yau and Zaslow, we made a conjecture concerning the Gromov-Hausdorff limits of Calabi-Yau n-folds (with Ricci-flat Kähler metric) as one approaches a large complex structure limit point in moduli; a similar conjecture was made independently by Kontsevich, Soibelman and Todorov. Roughly stated, the conjecture says that, if the metrics are normalized to have constant diameter, then this limit is the base of the conjectural special lagrangian torus fibration associated with the large complex structure limit, namely an n-sphere, …
We classify global surfaces of section for the Reeb flow of the standard contact form on the 3-sphere, defining the Hopf fibration. As an application, we prove the degree-genus formula for complex projective curves, using an elementary degeneration process inspired by the language of holomorphic buildings in symplectic field theory.
Grothendieck conjectured in the sixties that the even Kunneth projector (with respect to a Weil cohomology theory) is algebraic and that the homological equivalence relation on algebraic cycles coincides with the numerical equivalence relation. In this note we extend these celebrated conjectures from smooth projective schemes to the broad setting of smooth proper dg categories. As an application, we prove that Grothendieck's original conjectures are invariant under homological projective duality. This leads to a proof of Grothendieck's conjectures in the case of intersections of quadrics, line…
