By a theorem due to the first author, the bounded derived category of a finite-dimensional algebra over a field embeds fully faithfully into the stable category over its repetitive algebra. This embedding is an equivalence iff the algebra is of finite global dimension. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the derived category and the stable category over the repetitive algebra from various points of view for algebras of infinite global dimension. The most satisfactory results are obtained for Gorenstein algebras, especially for selfinjective algebras.
In this paper, we show that the repetitive cluster category of type $D_n$, defined as the orbit category $\mathcal{D}^b(\mathrm{mod}K D_n)/(τ^{-1}[1])^p$, is equivalent to a category defined on a subset of tagged edges in a regular punctured polygon. This generalizes the construction of Schiffler, \cite{S}, which we recover when $p=1$.
We show that the repetitive higher cluster category of type A_n, defined as the orbit category D^b(mod kA_n)/(tau^{-1}[m])^p, is equivalent to a category defined on a subset of diagonals in a regular p(nm+1)-gon. This generalizes the construction of Caldero-Chapoton-Schiffler, which we recover when p=m=1, and the work of Baur-Marsh, treating the case p=1, m>1. Our approach also leads to a geometric model of the bounded derived category D^b(mod kA_n).
We study the module category of a certain Galois covering of a cluster-tilted algebra which we call the cluster repetitive algebra. Our main result compares the module categories of the cluster repetitive algebra of a tilted algebra C and the repetitive algebra of C, in the sense of Hughes and Waschbuesch.
We show that for the path algebra $A$ of an acyclic quiver, the singularity category of the derived category $\mathsf{D}^{\rm b}(\mathsf{mod}\,A)$ is triangle equivalent to the derived category of the functor category of $\underline{\mathsf{mod}}\,A$, that is, $\mathsf{D}_{\rm sg}(\mathsf{D}^{\rm b}(\mathsf{mod}\,A))\simeq \mathsf{D}^{\rm b}(\mathsf{mod}(\underline{\mathsf{mod}}\,A))$. This extends a result of Iyama-Oppermann for the path algebra $A$ of a Dynkin quiver. An important step is to establish a functor category analog of Happel's triangle equivalence for repetitive algebras.
Let $Λ$ be a basic finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbf{k}$, and let $\widehatΛ$ be the repetitive algebra of $Λ$. In this article, we prove that if $\widehat{V}$ is a left $\widehatΛ$-module with finite dimension over $\mathbf{k}$, then $\widehat{V}$ has a well-defined versal deformation ring $R(\widehatΛ,\widehat{V})$, which is a local complete Noetherian commutative $\mathbf{k}$-algebra whose residue field is also isomorphic to $\mathbf{k}$. We also prove that $R(\widehatΛ,\widehat{V})$ is universal provided that $\underline{\mathrm{End}}_{\widehatΛ}(\wideh…
Repetitiveness in projective and injective resolutions and its influence on homological dimensions are studied. Some variations on the theme of repetitiveness are introduced, and it is shown that the corresponding invariants lead to very good -- and quite accessible -- upper bounds on various finitistic dimensions in terms of individual modules. These invariants are the `repetition index' and the `syzygy type' of a module $M$ over an artinian ring $Λ$. The repetition index measures the degree of repetitiveness among non-projective direct summands of the syzygies of $M$, while the syzygy type o…
Gillespie's Theorem gives a systematic way to construct model category structures on $\mathscr{C}( \mathscr{M} )$, the category of chain complexes over an abelian category $\mathscr{M}$. We can view $\mathscr{C}( \mathscr{M} )$ as the category of representations of the quiver $\cdots \rightarrow 2 \rightarrow 1 \rightarrow 0 \rightarrow -1 \rightarrow -2 \rightarrow \cdots$ with the relations that two consecutive arrows compose to $0$. This is a self-injective quiver with relations, and we generalise Gillespie's Theorem to other such quivers with relations. There is a large family of these, an…
We study semiorthogonal decompositions of bounded derived categories of gentle algebras and how they are manifested in the geometric model of these categories as constructed by Opper, Plamondon and Schroll. We prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between such semiorthogonal decompositions and suitable cuts of the marked surface underlying the geometric model. Our main tool is the characterization of basis morphisms between indecomposable objects due to Arnesen, Laking and Pauksztello.
Let $A$ be a finite dimensional algebra and $D^b(A)$ be the bounded derived category of finitely generated left $A$-modules. In this paper we consider lengths of compact exceptional objects in $D^b(A)$, proving a sufficient condition such that these lengths are bounded by the number of isomorphism classes of simple $A$-modules. Moreover, we show that algebras satisfying this condition is bounded derived simple.
Let $\La$ be an elementary locally bounded linear category over a field with radical squared zero. We shall show that the bounded derived category $D^b(\ModbLa)$ of finitely supported left $\La$-modules admits a Galois covering which is the bounded derived category of almost finitely co-presented representations of a gradable quiver. Restricting to the bounded derived category $D^b({\rm mod}^b\hspace{-2pt}\La)$ of finite dimensional left $\La$-modules, we shall be able to describe its indecomposable objects, obtain a complete description of the shapes of its Auslander-Reiten components, and cl…
We are concerned with relating derived categories of all modules of two dual Koszul algebras defined by a locally bounded quiver. We first generalize the well known Acyclic Assembly Lemma and formalize an old method of extending a functor from an additive category into a complex category to its complex category. Applying this to the Koszul functor associated with a Koszul algebra defined by a gradable quiver, we obtain a Koszul complex functor, that descends to an equivalence of a continuous family of pairs of triangulated subcategories of doubly unbounded complexes of the respective derived c…
We study the problem of lifting and restricting TTF triples (equivalently, recollement data) for a certain wide type of triangulated categories. This, together with the parametrizations of TTF triples given in "Parametrizing recollement data", allows us to show that many well-known recollements of right bounded derived categories of algebras are restrictions of recollements in the unbounded level, and leads to criteria to detect recollements of general right bounded derived categories. In particular, we give in Theorem 1 necessary and sufficient conditions for a 'right bounded' derived categor…
We prove that the bounded derived category of the incidence algebra of the Tamari lattice is fractionally Calabi-Yau, giving a positive answer to a conjecture of Chapoton. The proof involves a combinatorial description of the Serre functor of this derived category on a sufficiently nice family of indecomposable objects.
For a finite dimensional algebra $A$, we prove that the bounded homotopy category of projective $A$-modules and the bounded derived category of $A$-modules are dual to each other via certain categories of locally-finite cohomological functors. The duality gives rise to a $2$-categorical duality between certain strict $2$-categories involving the bounded homotopy categories and bounded derived categories, respectively. We apply the $2$-categorical duality to the study of triangle autoequivalence groups. These results are analogous to the ones in [M.R. Ballard, {\em Derived categories of sheaves…
We determine the derived representation types of algebras with radical square zero and give a description of the indecomposable objects in their bounded derived categories.
We show, for a wide class of abelian categories relevant in representation theory and algebraic geometry, that the bounded derived categories have no non-trivial strongly finitely generated thick subcategories containing all perfect complexes. In order to do so we prove a strong converse of the Ghost Lemma for bounded derived categories.
Let $A$ be an artin algebra. We show that the bounded homotopy category of finitely generated right $A$-modules has Auslander-Reiten triangles. Two applications are given: (1) we provide an alternative proof of a theorem of Happel in [H2]; (2) we prove that over a Gorenstein algebra, the bounded homotopy category of finitely generated Gorenstein projective (resp. injective) modules admits Auslander-Reiten triangles, which improves a main result in [G].
We associate a t-structure to a family of objects in D(A), the derived category of a Grothendieck category A. Using general results on t-structures, we give a new proof of Rickard's theorem on equivalence of bounded derived categories of modules. Also, we extend this result to bounded derived categories of quasi-coherent sheaves on separated divisorial schemes obtaining, in particular, Beilinson's equivalences.
Let $A$ be a virtually Gorenstein algebra of finite CM-type. We establish a duality between the subcategory of compact objects in the homotopy category of Gorenstein projective left $A$-modules and the bounded Gorenstein derived category of finitely generated right $A$-modules. Let $R$ be a two-sided noetherian ring such that the subcategory of Gorenstein flat modules $R\mbox{-}\mathcal{GF}$ is closed under direct products. We show that the inclusion $K(R\mbox{-}\mathcal{GF})\to K(R\mbox{-}{\rm Mod})$ of homotopy categories admits a right adjoint. We introduce the notion of Gorenstein represen…
The numerical invariants (global) cohomological length, (global) cohomological width, and (global) cohomological range of complexes (algebras) are introduced. Cohomological range leads to the concepts of derived bounded algebras and strongly derived unbounded algebras naturally. The first and second Brauer-Thrall type theorems for the bounded derived category of a finite-dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field are obtained. The first Brauer-Thrall type theorem says that derived bounded algebras are just derived finite algebras. The second Brauer-Thrall type theorem says that an …
We investigate the properties of pure derived categories of module categories, and show that pure derived categories share many nice properties of classical derived categories. In particular, we show that bounded pure derived categories can be realized as certain homotopy categories. We introduce the pure projective (resp. injective) dimension of complexes in pure derived categories, and give some criteria for computing these dimensions in terms of the properties of pure projective (resp. injective) resolutions and pure derived functors. As a consequence, we get some equivalent characterizatio…
We classify blocks of categories of weight and generalized weight modules of algebras of twisted differential operators on P^n. Necessary and sufficient conditions for these blocks to be tame and proofs that some of the blocks are Koszul are provided. We also establish equivalences of categories between these blocks and categories of bounded and generalized bounded weight sl(n+1)-modules in the cases of nonintegral and singular central character.
Using a relative version of Auslander's formula, we give a functorial approach to show that the bounded derived category of every Artin algebra admits a categorical resolution. This, in particular, implies that the bounded derived categories of Artin algebras of finite global dimension determine bounded derived categories of all Artin algebras. Hence, this paper can be considered as a typical application of functor categories, introduced in representation theory by Auslander, to categorical resolutions.
We generalize a recent result by J.F. Carlson to finite tensor categories having finitely generated cohomology. Specifically, we show that if the Krull dimension of the cohomology ring is sufficiently large, then there exist infinitely many non-isomorphic and nontrivial bounded complexes of projective objects, and with small homology. We also prove a version for finite dimensional algebras with finitely generated cohomology.
Using the relative derived categories, we prove that if an Artin algebra $A$ has a module $T$ with ${\rm inj.dim}T<\infty$ such that $^\perp T$ is finite, then the bounded derived category $D^b({\rm mod}A)$ admits a categorical resolution; and that for CM-finite Gorenstein algebra, such a categorical resolution is weakly crepant.
Let $H$ be a finite dimensional hereditary algebra over an algebraically closed field, and let $\mathcal{C}_{H}$ be the corresponding cluster category. We give a description of the (standard) fundamental domain of $\mathcal{C}_{H} $ in the bounded derived category $\mathcal{D}^{b}(H)$, and of the cluster-tilting objects, in terms of the category $\modΓ$\ of finitely generated modules over a suitable tilted algebra $% Γ.$ Furthermore, we apply this description to obtain (the quiver of) an arbitrary cluster-tilted algebra.
A Jordan Hölder theorem is established for derived module categories of piecewise hereditary algebras. The resulting composition series of derived categories are shown to be independent of the choice of bounded or unbounded derived module categories, and also of the choice of finitely generated or arbitrary modules.
We study the homotopy category of unbounded complexes with bounded homologies and its quotient category by the homotopy category of bounded complexes. We show the existence of a recollement of the above quotient category and it has the homotopy category of acyclic complxes as a triangulated subcategory. In the case of the homotopy category of finitely generated projective modules over an Iwanaga-Gorenstein ring, we show that the above quotient category are triangle equivalent to the stable module category of Cohen-Macaulay $\opn{T}_2(R)$-modules.
We define a dimension for a triangulated category. We prove a representabilityTheorem for a certain class of functors on finite dimensional triangulatedcategories. We study the dimension of the boundedderived category of an algebra or a scheme and we show in particularthat the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves over avariety has a finite dimension. For a self-injective algebra, a lowerbound for Auslander's representation dimension is given by the dimensionof the stable category. We use this to compute the representationdimension of exterior algebras. This provides the first known exa…
Following the work of Beilinson, Bernstein and Deligne, we study restriction and induction of t-structures in triangulated categories with respect to recollements. For derived categories of piecewise hereditary algebras we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a bounded t-structure to be induced from a recollement by derived categories of algebras. As a corollary we prove that for hereditary algebras of finite representation type all bounded t-structures can be obtained in this way.
We give an upper bound on the dimension of the bounded derived category of an abelian category. We show that if $\CX$ is a sufficiently nice subcategory of an abelian category, then derived dimension of $\CA$ is at most $\CX$-dim$\CA$, provided $\CX$-dim$\CA$ is greater than one. We provide some applications.
This article provides some basic results on weight structures, weight complex functors and homotopy categories. We prove that the full subcategories K(A)^{w < n}, K(A)^{w > n}, K(A)^- and K(A)^+ (of objects isomorphic to suitably bounded complexes) of the homotopy category K(A) of an additive category A are idempotent complete, which confirms that (K(A)^{w <= 0}, K(A)^{w >= 0}) is a weight structure on K(A). We discuss weight complex functors and provide full details of an argument sketched by M. Bondarko, which shows that if w is a bounded weight structure on a triangulated category T that ha…
Discrete derived categories were studied initially by Vossieck and later by Bobiński, Geiß, Skowroński. In this article, we describe the homomorphism hammocks and autoequivalences on these categories. We classify silting objects and bounded t-structures.
In this paper, we initiate the study of higher-dimensional Auslander-Reiten theory of self-injective algebras. We give a systematic construction of (weakly) $d$-representation-finite self-injective algebras as orbit algebras of the repetitive categories of algebras of finite global dimension satisfying a certain finiteness condition for the Serre functor. The condition holds, in particular, for all fractionally Calabi-Yau algebras of global dimension at most $d$. This generalizes Riedtmann's classical construction of representation-finite self-injective algebras. Our method is based on an adap…
In this paper, we prove Faltings' annihilator theorem for complexes over a CM-excellent ring. As an application, we give a complete classification of the t-structures of the bounded derived category of finitely generated modules over a CM-excellent ring of finite Krull dimension.
By using the relative derived categories, we prove that if an Artin algebra $A$ has a module $T$ with ${\rm inj.dim}T<\infty$ such that $^\perp T$ is finite, then the bounded derived category $D^b(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$ admits a categorical resolution in the sense of [Kuz], and a categorical desingularization in the sense of [BO]. For CM-finite Gorenstein algebra, such a categorical resolution is weakly crepant. The similar results hold also for $D^b(A\mbox{-}{\rm Mod})$.
For a certain full additive subcategory X of an additive category A, one defines the lower extension groups in relative homological algebra. We show that these groups are isomorphic to the suspended Hom groups in the Verdier quotient category of the bounded homotopy category of A by that of X. Alternatively, these groups are isomorphic to the negative cohomological groups of the Hom complexes in the dg quotient category A/X, where both A and X are viewed as dg categories concentrated in degree zero.
We give an upper bound for the dimension of the bounded derived categories of $(m,n)$-Igusa-Todorov algebras which is a generalization of $n$-Igusa-Todorov algebras, where $m,n$ are two nonnegative integers. As an applications, we get a new upper bound for the dimension of bounded derived categories in terms of the projective dimensions of certain of simple modules as well as radical layer length of artin algebra $Λ$.
Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring. Denote by $D^-(R)$ the derived category of cochain complexes $X$ of finitely generated $R$-modules with $H^i(X)=0$ for $i\gg0$. Then $D^-(R)$ has the structure of a tensor triangulated category with tensor product $-\otimes_R^L-$ and unit object $R$. In this paper, we study thick tensor ideals of $D^-(R)$, i.e., thick subcategories closed under the tensor action by each object in $D^-(R)$, and investigate the Balmer spectrum $Spc\,D^-(R)$ of $D^-(R)$, i.e., the set of prime thick tensor ideals of $D^-(R)$. First, we give a complete classification of th…
A noncommutative deformation of a quadric surface is usually described by a three-dimensional cubic Artin-Schelter regular algebra. In this paper we show that for such an algebra its bounded derived category embeds into the bounded derived category of a commutative deformation of the Hilbert scheme of two points on the quadric. This is the second example in support of a conjecture by Orlov. Based on this example, we formulate an infinitesimal version of the conjecture, and provide some evidence in the case of smooth projective surfaces.
Several years ago, Bondal, Rouquier and Van den Bergh introduced the notion of the dimension of a triangulated category, and Rouquier proved that the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a separated scheme of finite type over a perfect field has finite dimension. In this paper, we study the dimension of the bounded derived category of finitely generated modules over a commutative Noetherian ring. The main result of this paper asserts that it is finite over a complete local ring containing a field with perfect residue field. Our methods also give a ring-theoretic proof of the affine …
Let $Λ= \left[\begin{array}{cc} A & 0 \\ M & B \end{array}\right] $ be an Artin algebra and $_BM_A$ a $B$-$A$-bimodule. We prove that there is a triangle equivalence $D_{sg}(Λ) \cong D_{sg}(A)\coprod D_{sg}(B)$ between the corresponding singularity categories if $_BM$ is semi-simple and $M_A$ is projective. As a result, we obtain a new method for describing the singularity categories of certain bounded quiver algebras.
Relations between Gorenstein derived categories, Gorenstein defect categories and Gorenstein stable categories are established. Using these, the Gorensteinness of an algebra $A$ and invariants with respect to recollements of the bounded Gorenstein derived category $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$ of $A$ are investigated. Specifically, the Gorensteinness of $A$ is characterized in three ways: the existence of Auslander-Reiten triangles in $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$; recollements of $D^{b}_{gp}(A\mbox{-}{\rm mod})$; and also Gorenstein derived equivalences. It is shown that the finiteness …
