In this paper we consider the nonlinear equation involving differential forms on a compact Riemannian manifold $δd ξ= f'(<ξ,ξ>)ξ$. This equation is a generalization of the semilinear Maxwell equations recently introduced in a paper by Benci and Fortunato. We obtain a multiplicity result both in the positive mass case (i.e. $f'(t)\geqε>0$ uniformly) and in the zero mass case ($f'(t)\geq 0$ and $f'(0)=0$) where a strong convexity hypothesis on the nonlinearity is assumed.
In this paper, we study the existence of radial and nonradial solutions to the scalar field equations with fractional operators. For radial solutions, we prove the existence of infinitely many solutions under $N \geq 2$. We also show the existence of least energy solution (with the Pohozaev identity) and its mountain pass characterization. For nonradial solutions, we prove the existence of at least one nonradial solution under $N \geq 4$ and infinitely many nonradial solutions under either $N =4$ or $N \geq 6$. We treat both of the zero mass and the positive mass cases.
In this paper, we prove the existence of multiple nontrivial solutions of the following equation. \begin{align*} \begin{split} -Δ_{p}u & = \fracλ{u^γ}+g(u)+μ~\mbox{in}\,\,Ω, u & = 0\,\, \mbox{on}\,\, \partialΩ, u&>0 \,\,\mbox{in}\,\,Ω, \end{split} \end{align*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ is a smooth bounded domain with $N \geq 3$, $1 < p-1 < q$ , $ λ>0$, $γ>0$, $g$ satisfies certain conditions, $μ\geq 0$ is a bounded Radon measure.

This paper deals with a coupled Hartree system with Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev critical exponent \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu+(V_1(x)+λ_1)u=μ_1(|x|^{-4}*u^{2})u+β(|x|^{-4}*v^{2})u, \ \ &x\in R^N, -Δv+(V_2(x)+λ_2)v=μ_2(|x|^{-4}*v^{2})v+β(|x|^{-4}*u^{2})v, \ \ &x\in R^N, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $N\geq 5$, $λ_1$, $λ_2\geq 0$ with $λ_1+λ_2\neq 0$, $V_1(x), V_{2}(x)\in L^{\frac{N}{2}}(R^N)$ are nonnegative functions and $μ_1$, $μ_2$, $β$ are positive constants. Such system arises from mathematical models in Bose-Einstein condensates theory and nonlinear optics. By variational methods…
We consider the supercritical problem -Δu = |u|^{p-2}u in Ω, u=0 on \partialΩ, where $Ω$ is a bounded smooth domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N},$ $N\geq3,$ and $p\geq2^{*}:= 2N/(N-2).$ Bahri and Coron showed that if $Ω$ has nontrivial homology this problem has a positive solution for $p=2^{*}.$ However, this is not enough to guarantee existence in the supercritical case. For $p\geq 2(N-1)/(N-3)$ Passaseo exhibited domains carrying one nontrivial homology class in which no nontrivial solution exists. Here we give examples of domains whose homology becomes richer as $p$ increases. More precisely, we show…
We consider fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic cooperative systems with quadratic growth in the gradient, such as $$ -F_i(x, u_i, Du_i, D^2 u_i)- \langle M_i(x)D u_i, D u_i \rangle =λc_{i1}(x) u_1 + \cdots + λc_{in}(x) u_n +h_i(x), $$ for $i=1,\cdots,n$, in a bounded $C^{1,1}$ domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions; here $n\geq 1$, $λ\in\mathbb{R}$, $c_{ij},\, h_i \in L^\infty(Ω)$, $c_{ij}\geq 0$, $M_i$ satisfies $0<μ_1 I\leq M_i\leq μ_2 I$, and $F_i$ is an uniformly elliptic Isaacs operator. We obtain uniform a priori bounds for systems, under a weak coupling hypoth…
The aim of this paper is to establish two results about multiplicity of solutions to problems involving the $1-$Laplacian operator, with nonlinearities with critical growth. To be more specific, we study the following problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} - Δ_1 u +ξ\frac{u}{|u|} =λ|u|^{q-2}u+|u|^{1^*-2}u, \quad\text{in }Ω, u=0, \quad\text{on } \partialΩ. \end{array} \right. $$ where $Ω$ is a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N \geq 2$ and $ξ\in\{0,1\}$. Moreover, $λ> 0$, $q \in (1,1^*)$ and $1^*=\frac{N}{N-1}$. The first main result establishes the existence of many rotationally non-equi…
We address the one-parameter minmax construction, via Allen--Cahn energy, that has recently lead to a new proof of the existence of a closed minimal hypersurface in an arbitrary compact Riemannian manifold $N^{n+1}$ with $n\geq 2$ (see Guaraco's 2018 work). We obtain the following multiplicity-$1$ result: if the Ricci curvature of $N$ is positive then the minmax Allen--Cahn solutions concentrate around a multiplicity-$1$ hypersurface, that may have a singular set of dimension $\leq n-7$. This result is new for $n\geq 3$ (for $n=2$ it is also implied by the recent work by Chodosh--Mantoulidis).…

Given a compact Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ without boundary of dimension $m\geq 3$ and under some symmetry assumptions, we establish existence of one positive and multiple nodal solutions to the Yamabe-type equation $$-div_{g}(a\nabla u)+bu=c|u|^{2^{\ast}-2}u\quad on\ M$$ where $a,b,c\in C^{\infty}(M)$, $a$ and $c$ are positive, $-div_{g}(a\nabla)+b$ is coercive, and $2^{\ast}=\frac{2m}{m-2}$ is the critical Sobolev exponent. In particular, if $R_{g}$ denotes the scalar curvature of $(M,g)$, we give conditions which guarantee that the Yamabe problem $$Δ_{g}u+\frac{m-2}{4(m-1} R_{g}u=κu^{2^{\a…

In this setting, through a transformation recently introduced by two of the authors that reduces …
We consider the boundary value problem \begin{equation} - Δu = λc(x)u+ μ(x) |\nabla u|^2 + h(x), \qquad u \in H^1_0(Ω) \cap L^{\infty}(Ω), \leqno{(P_λ)} \end{equation} where $Ω\subset \R^N, N \geq 3$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary. It is assumed that $c\gneqq 0$, $c,h$ belong to $L^p(Ω)$ for some $p > N$. Also $μ\in L^{\infty}(Ω)$ and $μ\geq μ_1 >0$ for some $μ_1 \in \R$. It is known that when $λ\leq 0$, problem $(P_λ)$ has at most one solution. In this paper we study, under various assumptions, the structure of the set of solutions of $(P_λ)$ assuming that $λ>0$. Let $Ω\subset \mathbb R^N$, $N \geq 2$, be a smooth bounded domain. We consider a boundary value problem of the form $$-Δu = c_λ(x) u + μ(x) |\nabla u|^2 + h(x), \quad u \in H^1_0(Ω)\cap L^{\infty}(Ω)$$ where $c_λ$ depends on a parameter $λ\in \mathbb R$, the coefficients $c_λ$ and $h$ belong to $L^q(Ω)$ with $q>N/2$ and $μ\in L^{\infty}(Ω)$. Under suitable assumptions, but without imposing a sign condition on any of these coefficients, we obtain an a priori upper bound on the solutions. Our proof relies on a new boundary weak Harnack inequality. This inequality, which is of independent intere…
Let $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{N}$ ($N\geq1$) be a smooth bounded domain, $a\in C(\barΩ)$ a sign-changing function, and $0\leq q<1$. We investigate the Robin problem \[ \begin{cases} -Δu=a(x)u^{q} & \mbox{in $Ω$},\\ u\geq0 & \mbox{in $Ω$},\\ \partial_νu=αu & \mbox{on $\partial Ω$}, \end{cases} \] where $α\in\lbrack-\infty,\infty)$ and $ν$ is the unit outward normal to $\partialΩ$. Due to the lack of strong maximum principle structure, this problem may have \textit{dead core} solutions. However, for a large class of weights $a$ we recover a \textit{positivity} property when $q$ is close to $1$, which…
It is established existence, uniqueness and multiplicity of solutions for a quasilinear elliptic problem problems driven by $Φ$-Laplacian operator. Here we consider the reflexive and nonreflexive cases using an auxiliary problem. In order to prove our main results we employ variational methods, regularity results and truncation techniques.
This paper is concerned with existence and multiplicity results for the semilinear subelliptic equation with free perturbation term. By using the degenerate Rellich-Kondrachov compact embedding theorem, precise lower bound estimates of Dirichlet eigenvalues for the finitely degenerate elliptic operator and minimax method, we obtain the existence and multiplicity of weak solutions for the problem.
We prove new multiplicity results for the Brezis-Nirenberg problem for the $p$-Laplacian. Our proofs are based on a new abstract critical point theorem involving the ${\mathbb Z}_2$-cohomological index that requires less compactness than the (PS) condition.
We prove a bifurcation and multiplicity result that is independent of the dimension N for a critical p-Laplacian problem that is the analog of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem for the quasilinear case. This extends a result in the literature for the semilinear case.
We obtain fundamental imbeddings for the fractional Sobolev space with variable exponent that is a generalization of well-known fractional Sobolev spaces. As an application, we obtain a-priori bounds and multiplicity of solutions to some nonlinear elliptic problems involving the fractional $p(\cdot)$-Laplacian.

The present paper studies the fractional $p$-Laplacian boundary value problems with jumping nonlinearities at zero or infinity and obtain the existence of multiple solutions and sign-changing solutions by constructing the suitable pseudo-gradient vector field of the corresponding energy functional.
In this paper we consider a mean field problem on a compact surface with conical singularities. This problem appears in the Gaussian curvature prescription problem in Geometry, and also in the Electroweak Theory and in the abelian Chern-Simons-Higgs model in Physics. In this paper we focus on the case of sign-changing potentials, and we give results on compactness, existence and multiplicity of solutions.
In this paper, we study two classes of Kirchhoff type problems set on a double phase framework. That is, the functional space where finding solutions coincides with the Musielak-Orlicz-Sobolev space $W^{1,\mathcal H}_0(Ω)$, with modular function $\mathcal H$ related to the so called double phase operator. Via a variational approach, we provide existence and multiplicity results.
We consider a double phase Robin problem with a Carathéodory nonlinearity. When the reaction is superlinear but without satisfying the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition, we prove an existence theorem. When the reaction is resonant, we prove a multiplicity theorem. Our approach is Morse theoretic, using the notion of homological local linking.
In this paper, we study the existence and multiplicity results of nontrivial positive solutions to a quasilinear elliptic equation in $\RN$, when $N\geq2$, as \begin{equation} \Lp u+u^{p-1}=λ\hspace{0.2mm}k(x)u^{r-1}-h(x)u^{q-1}.\nonumber \end{equation} Here, $h(x),k(x)>0$ are Lebesgue measurable functions, $1<p<q<\infty$, $p<r<\min\{p^*,q\}$ if $p<N$ while $p<r<q$ if $p\geq N$, and $λ>0$ is a parameter.
We study a boundary value elliptic problem having a lower order nonlinear term with subquadratic growth in the gradient of the solution and possibly singular when the solution vanishes. If the singularity is mild enough (and even in the absence of the singularity), we prove an existence and multiplicity result. On the contrary, we prove an existence and uniqueness result for strong singularities.
To study the problem of the assigned Gauss curvature with conical singularities on Riemanian manifolds, we consider the Liouville equation with a single Dirac measure on the two-dimensional sphere. By a stereographic projection, we reduce the problem to a Liouville equation on the euclidean plane. We prove new multiplicity results for bounded radial solutions, which improve on earlier results of C.-S. Lin and his collaborators. Based on numerical computations, we also present various conjectures on the number of unbounded solutions. Using symmetries, some multiplicity results for non radial so…
In this paper, we consider the quasilinear Schrödinger equation \begin{equation*} -Δu+V(x)u-uΔ(u^2)=g(u),\ \ x\in \mathbb{R}^{3}, \end{equation*} where $V$ and $g$ are continuous functions. Without the coercive condition on $V$ or the monotonicity condition on $g$, we show that the problem above has a least energy sign-changing solution and infinitely many sign-changing solutions. Our results especially solve the problem above in the case where $g(u)=|u|^{p-2}u$ ($2<p<4$) and complete some recent related works on sign-changing solutions, in the sense that, in the literature only the case $g(u)…
We prove the existence of $N$ distinct pairs of nontrivial solutions for critical $p$-Laplacian problems in ${\mathbb R}^N$, as well as in bounded domains. To overcome the difficulties arising from the lack of compactness, we use a recent global compactness result of Mercuri and Willem.
