LaTeX2e, 76 pages, v7: this is a correction of the published version. In the published version the compatibility of the functoriality isomorphisms with the tensor structure on the category of representations of the dual group was not justified. We do this in the present version. We also pass from the formalism of derived categories to that of DG-categories

Let X be a smooth projective curve over an algebraically closed field of characteristic >2. Consider the dual pair H=SO_{2m}, G=Sp_{2n} over X with H split. Write Bun_G and Bun_H for the stacks of G-torsors and H-torsors on X. The theta-kernel on Bun_G\times Bun_H yields the theta-lifting functors between the derived categories of l-adic sheaves on Bun_G and Bun_H. We describe the relation of these functors with Hecke operators.
In two particular cases it becomes the geometric Langlands functoriality for this pair (in the nonramified case). Namely, for n=m the functor from the derived category on Bun_H to that on Bun_G commutes with Hecke functors with respect to the inclusion of the Langlands dual groups SO_{2n}\to SO_{2n+1}. For m=n+1 the functor from the derived category on Bun_G to that on Bun_H commutes with Hecke functors with respect to the inclusion of the Langlands dual groups SO_{2n+1}\to \SO_{2n+2}.
In other cases the relation is more complicated and involves the SL_2 of Arthur. As a step of the proof, we establish the geometric theta-lifting for the dual pair GL_m, GL_n. Our global results are derived from the corresponding local ones, which provide a geometric analog of a theorem of Rallis.
We consider a reductive dual pair (G, G') in the stable range with G' the smaller member and of Hermitian symmetric type. We study the theta lifting of nilpotent K'_C-orbits, where K' is a maximal compact subgroup of G' and we describe the precise K_C-module structure of the regular function ring of the closure of the lifted nilpotent orbit of the symmetric pair (G, K). As an application, we prove sphericality and normality of the closure of certain nilpotent K_C-orbits obtained in this way. We also give integral formulas for their degrees.
In this paper we study the theta lifting for loop groups and extend the classical tower property established by S. Rallis to the loop setting. As an application we obtain cusp forms on loop groups, and we give the first example where the cusp forms constructed using this method are nonvanishing.
Let X be a smooth projective curve over an algebraically closed field of characteristic >2. Consider the dual pair H=GSO_{2m}, G=GSp_{2n} over X, where H splits over an etale two-sheeted covering of X. Write Bun_G and Bun_H for the stacks of G-torsors and H-torsors on X. We show that for m\le n (respectively, for m>n) the theta-lifting functor from D(Bun_H) to D(Bun_G) (respectively, from D(Bun_G) to D(Bun_H)) commutes with Hecke functors with respect to a morphism of the corresponding L-groups involving the SL_2 of Arthur. So, they realize the geometric Langlands functoriality for the corresp…
We study the generalized theta lifting between the double covers of split special orthogonal groups, which uses the non-minimal theta representations constructed by Bump, Friedberg and Ginzburg. We focus on the theta liftings of non-generic representations and make a conjecture that gives an upper bound of the first non-zero occurrence of the liftings, depending only on the unipotent orbit. We prove both global and local results that support the conjecture.
We study the theta lifting for real unitary groups and completely determine the theta lifts of discrete series representations. In particular, we show that these theta lifts can be expressed as cohomologically induced representations in the weakly fair range. This extends a result of J.-S. Li in the case of discrete series representations with sufficiently regular infinitesimal character, whose theta lifts can be expressed as cohomologically induced representations in the good range.
In this paper, we give an explicit determination of the non-vanishing of the theta liftings for unitary dual pairs (U(p,q), U(r,s)). Assuming the local Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture, we determine when theta lifts of tempered representations are nonzero in terms of the local Langlands correspondence.
We study the theta lifting for real unitary groups and completely determine the theta lifts of tempered representations. In particular, we show that the theta lifts of (limits of) discrete series representations can be expressed as cohomologically induced representations in the weakly fair range. This extends a result of J.-S. Li in the case of discrete series representations with sufficiently regular infinitesimal character, whose theta lifts can be expressed as cohomologically induced representations in the good range.
In his paper 'Theta lifting for representations with non zero cohomlogy', Jian-Shu Li proved that a certain kind of cohomological representations of $U(a,b)$ is automorphic. In this paper, this result is generalized to a more general class of cohomological representations of this group. It comes from the fact that these cohomological representations are the image by the theta correspondance of some representations obtained by cohomological induction. In proving this theorem, we also prove some cases of Adams conjecture.
We study a new lifting of automorphic representations using the theta representation $Θ$ on the $4$-fold cover of the symplectic group, $\overline{\mathrm{Sp}}_{2r}(\mathbb{A})$. This lifting produces the first examples of CAP representations on higher-degree metaplectic covering groups. Central to our analysis is the identification of the maximal nilpotent orbit associated to $Θ$. We conjecture a natural extension of Arthur's parameterization of the discrete spectrum to $\overline{\mathrm{Sp}}_{2r}(\mathbb{A})$. Assuming this, we compute the effect of our lift on Arthur parameters and show th…
Let $(G,\tilde{G})$ be a reductive dual pair over a local field ${\Fontauri k}$ of characteristic 0, and denote by $V$ and $\tilde{V}$ the standard modules of $G$ and $\tilde{G}$, respectively. Consider the set $Max Hom(V,\tilde{V})$ of full rank elements in $Hom(V,\tilde{V})$, and the nilpotent orbit correspondence $\mathcal{O} \subset \mathfrak{g}$ and $Θ(\mathcal{O})\subset \tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ induced by elements of $Max Hom(V,\tilde{V})$ via the moment maps. Let $(π,\mathscr{V})$ be a smooth irreducible representation of $G$. We show that there is a correspondence of the generalized Whit…
In this paper, we give an explicit determination of the theta lifting for symplectic-orthogonal and unitary dual pairs over a nonarchimedean field $F$ of characteristic $0$. We determine when theta lifts of tempered representations are nonzero, and determine the theta lifts in terms of the local Langlands correspondence.
Following Roberts' work in the case of orthogonal-symplectic similitude dual pairs, we study the local theta correspondence for unitary similitude dual pairs over a $p$-adic field.
In this paper we are interested in the geometric local theta correspondence at the Iwahori level for dual reductive pairs $(G,H)$ of type II over a non-Archimedean field of characteristic $p\neq 2$ in the framework of the geometric Langlands program. We consider the geometric version of the $I_{H}\times I_{G}$-invariants of the Weil representation $\mathcal{S}^{I_{H}\times I_{G}}$ as a bimodule under the of action Iwahori-Hecke algebras $\mathcal{H}_{I_{G}}$ and $\mathcal{H}_{I_{H}}$ and we give some partial geometric description of the corresponding category under the action of Hecke functors…
For every irreducible Harish-Chandra module of $O^{*}(4)$, we determine its theta lift to $Sp(p,q)$ in terms of the Langlands parameter, for all non-negative integers $p$ and $q$. Our strategy is to determine the desired theta lifts by their infinitesimal characters and lowest $K$-types.
In this paper, we completely describe the Howe correspondence for the dual pairs from the title over a nonarchimedean local field of characteristic zero. More specifically, for every irreducible admissible representation of these groups, we find its first occurrence index in the theta correspondence and we describe, in terms of their Langlands parameters, the small theta lifts on all levels.
We study three exceptional theta correspondences for p-adic groups, where one member of the dual pair is the exceptional group G2. We prove the Howe duality conjecture for these dual pairs and a dichotomy theorem, and determine explicitly the theta lifts of all non-cuspidal representations.
We determine the occurrence and explicitly describe the theta lifts on all levels of all the irreducible generic representations for the dual pair of groups $(\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}, \mathrm{O}(V))$ defined over a local nonarchimedean field $\mathbb{F}$ of characteristic $0$. As a direct application of our results, we are able to produce a series of non-generic unitarizable representations of these groups.
It is known that the $Θ$-correspondence for a finite reductive dual pair is not one-to-one in general. In this paper, we propose two maximal one-to-one sub-relations $\underlineθ,\overlineθ$ of the $Θ$-correspondences for a finite dual pair of two unitary groups. These two correspondences are extensions of the analogue of the $η$-correspondence proposed by Gurevich-Howe.
We give a proof of the Howe duality conjecture for the (almost) equal rank dual pairs in full generality. For arbitrary dual pairs, we prove the irreducibility of the (small) theta lifts for all tempered representations. Our proof works for any nonarchimedean local field of characteristic not 2 and in arbitrary residual characteristic.
In this paper, we propose two maximal one-to-one sub-relations $\underlineθ, \overlineθ$ of the Howe correspondence $Θ$ for a finite reductive dual pair consisting of a symplectic group and an orthogonal group. Moreover, we show that both the correspondences $\underlineθ$ and $\overlineθ$ are extensions beyond the stable range of the $η$-correspondence defined by Gurevich-Howe.
Derived functors (or Zuckerman functors) play a very important role in the study of unitary representations of real reductive groups. These functors are usually applied on highest weight modules in the so-called good range and the theory is well-understood. On the other hand, there were several studies on the irreducibility and unitarizability, in which derived functors are applied to singular modules. See Enright et al. (Acta. Math. 1985), for example. In this article, we apply derived functors to certain modules arising from the formalism of local theta lifting, and investigate the irreducib…
Following the approach of B. Roberts, we characterize the non-vanishing of global theta lifts for symplectic-orthogonal dual pairs in terms of its local counterpart. In particular, we replace the temperedness assumption present in Robert's work by a certain weaker assumption, and apply our results to small rank similitude groups. Among our applications is a certain instance of Langlands functorial transfer of a (non-generic) cuspidal automorphic representation of $GSp(4)$ to GL(4).
During the last two decades, great efforts have been devoted to the calculation of the local theta correspondence for reductive dual pairs. However, uniform formulas remain elusive for real dual pairs of type I. The purpose of this paper is twofold: to formulate an explicit version of induction principle for dual pairs $(O(p,q),Sp(2n,\mathbb{R}))$ with $p + q$ even, and to apply it to obtain a complete and explicit description of the local theta correspondence when $p + q = 4$. Our approach is very elementary by analysis on the infinitesimal characters and K-types under the correspondence.
This paper deals with the geometric local theta correspondence at the Iwahori level for dual reductive pairs of type II over a non Archimedean field $F$ of characteristic $p\neq 2$ in the framework of the geometric Langlands program. First we construct and study the geometric version of the invariants of the Weil representation of the Iwahori-Hecke algebras. In the particular case of $(GL_1, GL_m)$ we give a complete geometric description of the corresponding category. The second part of the paper deals with geometric local Langlands functoriality at the Iwahori level in a general setting. Giv…
S.-Y. Pan decomposes the uniform projection of the Weil representation of a finite symplectic-odd orthogonal dual pair, in terms of Deligne-Lusztig virtual characters, assuming that the order of the finite field is large enough. In this paper we use Pan's decomposition to study the theta correspondence for this kind of dual pairs, following the approach of Adams-Moy and Aubert-Michel-Rouquier. Our results give the theta correspondence between unipotent representations and certain quadratic unipotent representations.
Let $G$ be a split simply laced group defined over a $p$-adic field $F$. In this paper we study the restriction of the minimal representation of $G$ to various dual pairs in $G$. For example, the restriction of the minimal representation of $E_7$ to the dual pair $G_2 \times{}$Sp(6) gives the non-endoscopic Langlands lift of irreducible representations of $G_2$ to Sp(6).
For an irreducible dual pair $(G, G') \in Sp(W)$ with one member compact and two representations $Π\leftrightarrow Π'$ appearing in the Howe duality, we give an expression of the character $Θ_{Π'}$ of $Π'$ via the character of $Π$. We make computations for the dual pair $(G = U(n, \mathbb{C}), G' = U(p, q, \mathbb{C}))$, which are explicit in low dimensions. For $(G = U(1, \mathbb{C}), G' = U(1, 1, \mathbb{C}))$, we verify directly a result of H. Hecht saying that the character has the same value on both Cartan subgroups of $G'$.
Recently, Gekeler proved that the group of invertible analytic functions modulo constant functions on Drinfeld's upper half space is isomorphic to the dual of an integral generalized Steinberg representation. In this note we show that the group of invertible functions is the dual of a universal extension of that Steinberg representation. As an application, we show that lifting obstructions of rigid analytic theta cocycles of Hilbert modular forms in the sense of Darmon--Vonk can be computed in terms of $\mathcal{L}$-invariants of the associated Galois representation. The same argument applies …
We complete the proof of the Howe duality conjecture in the theory of local theta correspondence by treating the remaining case of quaternionic dual pairs in arbitrary residual characteristic.
We establish the Fourier-Jacobi case of the local Gross-Prasad conjecture for unitary groups, by using local theta correspondence to relate the Fourier-Jacobi case with the Bessel case established by Beuzart-Plessis. To achieve this, we prove two conjectures of D. Prasad on the precise description of the local theta correspondence for (almost) equal rank unitary dual pairs in terms of the local Langlands correspondence.
In this paper, we determine a constant occurring in a local analogue of the Siegel-Weil formula, and describe the behavior of the formal degrees under the local theta correspondence for quaternionic dual pairs of almost equal rank over a non-Archimedean local field of characteristic $0$. As an application, we prove the formal degree conjecture of Hiraga-Ichino-Ikeda for the non-split inner forms of ${\rm Sp}_4$ and ${\rm GSp}_4$.
We prove Howe duality for the theta correspondence arising from the $p$-adic dual pair $G_2 \times (\text{PU}_3 \rtimes \mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})$ inside the adjoint quasi-split group of type $E_6$.
We study the Hecke algebra modules arising from theta correspondence between certain Harish-Chandra series for type I dual pairs over finite fields. For the product of the pair of Hecke algebras under consideration, we show that there is a generic Hecke algebra module whose specializations at prime powers give the Hecke algebra modules and whose specialization at $1$ can be explicitly described. As an application, we prove the conservation relation on the first occurrence indices for all irreducible representations. As another application, we generalize the results of Aubert-Michel-Rouquier an…
