We study the theta lifting for real unitary groups and completely determine the theta lifts of tempered representations. In particular, we show that the theta lifts of (limits of) discrete series representations can be expressed as cohomologically induced representations in the weakly fair range. This extends a result of J.-S. Li in the case of discrete series representations with sufficiently regular infinitesimal character, whose theta lifts can be expressed as cohomologically induced representations in the good range.
In this note, we show that the metaplectic theta correspondence is compatible with the tempered condition by directly estimating the matrix coefficients, without using the classification theorem.
In this paper, we give an explicit determination of the theta lifting for symplectic-orthogonal and unitary dual pairs over a nonarchimedean field $F$ of characteristic $0$. We determine when theta lifts of tempered representations are nonzero, and determine the theta lifts in terms of the local Langlands correspondence.
In this paper, we give an explicit determination of the non-vanishing of the theta liftings for unitary dual pairs (U(p,q), U(r,s)). Assuming the local Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture, we determine when theta lifts of tempered representations are nonzero in terms of the local Langlands correspondence.
We study the generalized theta lifting between the double covers of split special orthogonal groups, which uses the non-minimal theta representations constructed by Bump, Friedberg and Ginzburg. We focus on the theta liftings of non-generic representations and make a conjecture that gives an upper bound of the first non-zero occurrence of the liftings, depending only on the unipotent orbit. We prove both global and local results that support the conjecture.
We study the theta lifting for real unitary groups and completely determine the theta lifts of discrete series representations. In his paper 'Theta lifting for representations with non zero cohomlogy', Jian-Shu Li proved that a certain kind of cohomological representations of $U(a,b)$ is automorphic. In this paper, this result is generalized to a more general class of cohomological representations of this group. It comes from the fact that these cohomological representations are the image by the theta correspondance of some representations obtained by cohomological induction. In proving this theorem, we also prove some cases of Adams conjecture.
In this paper, we investigate the twisted GGP conjecture for certain tempered representations using the theta correspondence and establish some special cases, namely when the L-parameter of the unitary group is the sum of conjugate-dual characters of the appropriate sign.
We study a new lifting of automorphic representations using the theta representation $Θ$ on the $4$-fold cover of the symplectic group, $\overline{\mathrm{Sp}}_{2r}(\mathbb{A})$. This lifting produces the first examples of CAP representations on higher-degree metaplectic covering groups. Central to our analysis is the identification of the maximal nilpotent orbit associated to $Θ$. We conjecture a natural extension of Arthur's parameterization of the discrete spectrum to $\overline{\mathrm{Sp}}_{2r}(\mathbb{A})$. Assuming this, we compute the effect of our lift on Arthur parameters and show th…
In this paper we study the theta lifting for loop groups and extend the classical tower property established by S. Rallis to the loop setting. As an application we obtain cusp forms on loop groups, and we give the first example where the cusp forms constructed using this method are nonvanishing.
Following the approach of B. Roberts, we characterize the non-vanishing of global theta lifts for symplectic-orthogonal dual pairs in terms of its local counterpart. In particular, we replace the temperedness assumption present in Robert's work by a certain weaker assumption, and apply our results to small rank similitude groups. Among our applications is a certain instance of Langlands functorial transfer of a (non-generic) cuspidal automorphic representation of $GSp(4)$ to GL(4).
The endoscopic transfer factor is expressed as difference of characters for the even and odd parts of the spin modules, or Dirac index of the trivial representation. The lifting of tempered characters in terms of index of Dirac cohomology is calculated explicitly.
We consider a reductive dual pair (G, G') in the stable range with G' the smaller member and of Hermitian symmetric type. We study the theta lifting of nilpotent K'_C-orbits, where K' is a maximal compact subgroup of G' and we describe the precise K_C-module structure of the regular function ring of the closure of the lifted nilpotent orbit of the symmetric pair (G, K). As an application, we prove sphericality and normality of the closure of certain nilpotent K_C-orbits obtained in this way. We also give integral formulas for their degrees.
Let X be a smooth projective curve over an algebraically closed field of characteristic >2. Consider the dual pair H=GSO_{2m}, G=GSp_{2n} over X, where H splits over an etale two-sheeted covering of X. Write Bun_G and Bun_H for the stacks of G-torsors and H-torsors on X. We show that for m\le n (respectively, for m>n) the theta-lifting functor from D(Bun_H) to D(Bun_G) (respectively, from D(Bun_G) to D(Bun_H)) commutes with Hecke functors with respect to a morphism of the corresponding L-groups involving the SL_2 of Arthur. So, they realize the geometric Langlands functoriality for the corresp…
We, firstly, improve a theorem of B. Roberts which characterizes non-vanishing of a global theta lift from O(X) to Sp(n) in terms of non-vanishing of local theta lifts. In particular, we will remove all the archimedean conditions imposed upon his theorem. Secondly, following Roberts, we will apply our theorem to theta lifting of low rank similitude groups. Namely we characterize the non-vanishing condition of a global theta lift from GO(4) to GSp(2) in our improved setting. Also we consider non-vanishing conditions of a global theta lift from GO(4) to GSp(1) and explicitly compute the lift whe…
Let $(G,\tilde{G})$ be a reductive dual pair over a local field ${\Fontauri k}$ of characteristic 0, and denote by $V$ and $\tilde{V}$ the standard modules of $G$ and $\tilde{G}$, respectively. Consider the set $Max Hom(V,\tilde{V})$ of full rank elements in $Hom(V,\tilde{V})$, and the nilpotent orbit correspondence $\mathcal{O} \subset \mathfrak{g}$ and $Θ(\mathcal{O})\subset \tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ induced by elements of $Max Hom(V,\tilde{V})$ via the moment maps. Let $(π,\mathscr{V})$ be a smooth irreducible representation of $G$. We show that there is a correspondence of the generalized Whit…
There are many Rankin-Selberg integrals representing Langlands $L$-functions, and it is not apparent what the limits of the Rankin-Selberg method are. The Dimension Equation is an equality satisfied by many such integrals that suggests a priority for further investigations. However there are also Rankin-Selberg integrals that do not satisfy this equation. Here we propose an extension and reformulation of the dimension equation that includes many additional cases. We explain some of these cases, including the new doubling integrals of the authors, Cai and Kaplan. We then show how this same equa…
Let F be a p-adic field with p odd. Quadratic base change and theta-lifting are shown to be compatible for supercuspidal representations of SL(2,F). The argument involves the theory of types and the lattice model of the Weil representation.
In this paper we study representations of the indefinite orthogonal group O(n,m) which are local theta lifts of one dimensional characters or unitary lowest weight modules of the double covers of the symplectic groups. We apply the transfer of K-types on these representations of O(n,m), and we study their effects on the dual pair correspondences. These results provide examples that the theta lifting is compatible with the transfer of K-types. Finally we will use these results to study subquotients of some cohomologically induced modules.
This paper describes the lifting of automorphic characters of $\GO(3)(\A)$ to $\SLT(\A)$. It does so by matching the image of this lift with the lift of automorphic characters from $\GO(1)(\A)$ to $\SLT(\A)$. Our matching actually gives a matching of individual automorphic forms, and not just of representation spaces. Let $\V$ be a $3-$ dimensional quadratic vector space and $\U$ a certain $1-$ dimensional quadratic space. To an automorphic form $I_{\V}(χ,ϕ)$ determined by the Schwartz function $ϕ\in \Sc(\V(\A))$ in the lift of the character $χ$ we match an automorphic form $I_{\U}(μ,ϕ_{0})$ d…
Let $Π_0$ be a representation of a group $H$. We say that a representation $τ$ is $(H,Π_0)$-distinguished, if it is a quotient of $Π_0$. It is natural to ask whether this notion "inflates" to larger groups, in the sense that a representation $\mathrm{I}(τ)$ induced from $τ$ and $H$ to a group $G$, is $(G,Π)$-distinguished. We study representations distinguished by theta representations: $H=GL_n$, $Π_0$ is a pair of the exceptional representations of Kazhdan and Patterson, $G=GSpin_{2n+1}$ and $Π$ is a pair of the small representations of Bump, Friedberg and Ginzburg. We prove a Rodier-type her…
Derived functors (or Zuckerman functors) play a very important role in the study of unitary representations of real reductive groups. These functors are usually applied on highest weight modules in the so-called good range and the theory is well-understood. On the other hand, there were several studies on the irreducibility and unitarizability, in which derived functors are applied to singular modules. See Enright et al. (Acta. Math. 1985), for example. In this article, we apply derived functors to certain modules arising from the formalism of local theta lifting, and investigate the irreducib…
Recently, Gekeler proved that the group of invertible analytic functions modulo constant functions on Drinfeld's upper half space is isomorphic to the dual of an integral generalized Steinberg representation. In this note we show that the group of invertible functions is the dual of a universal extension of that Steinberg representation. As an application, we show that lifting obstructions of rigid analytic theta cocycles of Hilbert modular forms in the sense of Darmon--Vonk can be computed in terms of $\mathcal{L}$-invariants of the associated Galois representation. The same argument applies …
In this article, we study the Chow group of the motive associated to a tempered global $L$-packet $π$ of unitary groups of even rank with respect to a CM extension, whose global root number is $-1$. We show that, under some restrictions on the ramification of $π$, if the central derivative $L'(1/2,π)$ is nonvanishing, then the $π$-nearly isotypic localization of the Chow group of a certain unitary Shimura variety over its reflex field does not vanish. This proves part of the Beilinson--Bloch conjecture for Chow groups and $L$-functions, which generalizes the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjectur…

Let X be a smooth projective curve. Write Bun_{SO_{2n}} for the moduli stack of SO_{2n}-torsors on X. We give a geometric interpretation of the automorphic function f on Bun_{SO_{2n}} corresponding to the minimal representation. Namely, we construct a perverse sheaf K on Bun_{SO_{2n}} such that f should be equal to the trace of Frobenius of K plus some constant function. We also calculate K explicitely for curves of genus zero and one. The construction of K is based on some explicit geometric formulas for the Fourier coefficients of f on one hand, and on the geometric theta-lifting on the othe…
