If $R$ is a real analytic set in $\C^n$ (viewed as
$\R^{2n}$), then for any point $p\in R$ there is a uniquely defined germ $X_p$ of the smallest complex analytic variety which contains $R_p$, the germ of $R$ at $p$. It is shown that if $R$ is irreducible of constant dimension, then the function $p\to\dim X_p$ is constant on a dense open subset of $R$. As an application it is proved that a continuous map from a real analytic CR manifold $M$ into $\C^N$ which is CR on some open subset of $M$ and whose graph is a real analytic set in $M\times \C^N$ is necessarily CR everywhere on $M$.
Let the function $φ$ be holomorphic in the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ of the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$ and let $φ(\mathbb{D})\subset \mathbb{D}$. We study the level sets and the critical points of the hyperbolic derivative of $φ$, $$|D_φ(z)|:=\frac{(1-|z|^2)|φ'(z)|}{1-|φ(z)|^2}.$$ In particular, we show how the Schwarzian derivative of $φ$ reveals the nature of the critical points.
It was known that the Sierpiński carpets can appear as the Julia sets in the families of some rational maps. In this article we present a criterion that guarantees the existence of the carpet Julia sets in some rational maps having exactly one fixed (super-) attracting or parabolic basin. We show that this criterion can be applied to some well known rational maps, such as McMullen maps and Morosawa-Pilgrim family. Moreover, we give also some special examples whose Julia sets are Sierpiński carpets.
For Cantor circle Julia sets of hyperbolic rational maps, we prove that they are quasisymmetrically equivalent to standard Cantor circles (i.e., connected components are round circles). This gives a quasisymmetric uniformization of all Cantor circle Julia sets of hyperbolic rational maps. By analyzing the combinatorial information of the rational maps whose Julia sets are Cantor circles, we give a computational formula of the number of the Cantor circle hyperbolic components in the moduli space of rational maps for any fixed degree. We calculate the Hausdorff dimensions of the Julia sets which…

Zorich maps are higher dimensional analogues of the complex exponential map. For the exponential family $λe^z$, $λ>0$, it is known that for small values of $λ$ the Julia set is an uncountable collection of disjoint curves. The same was shown to hold for Zorich maps by Bergweiler and Nicks. In this paper we introduce a topological model for the Julia sets of certain Zorich maps, similar to the so called \textit{straight brush} of Aarts and Oversteegen. As a corollary we show that $\infty$ is an \textit{explosion point} for the set of endpoints of the Julia sets. Moreover we introduce an object …
We study the quasisymmetric geometry of the Julia sets of McMullen maps $f_λ(z)=z^m+λ/z^\ell$, where $\ell$, $m\geq 2$ are integers satisfying $1/\ell+1/m<1$ and $λ\in\mathbb{C}\setminus\{0\}$. If the free critical points of $f_λ$ are escaped to the infinity, we prove that the Julia set $J_λ$ of $f_λ$ is quasisymmetrically equivalent to either a standard Cantor set, a standard Cantor set of circles or a round Sierpiński carpet (which is also standard in some sense). If the free critical points are not escaped, we give a sufficient condition on $λ$ such that $J_λ$ is a Sierpiński carpet and pro…
There are two natural definitions of the Julia set for complex Hénon maps: the sets $J$ and $J^\star$. Whether these two sets are always equal is one of the main open questions in the field. We prove equality when the map acts hyperbolically on the a priori smaller set $J^\star$, under the additional hypothesis of substantial dissipativity. This result was claimed, without using the additional assumption, in the paper [For06], but the proof is incomplete. Our proof closely follows ideas from [For06], deviating at two points where substantial dissipativity is used. We show that $J = J^\star$ al…
Let $f : X\to X$ be a dominating meromorphic map on a compact Kähler manifold $X$ of dimension $k$. We extend the notion of topological entropy $h^l_{\mathrm{top}}(f)$ for the action of $f$ on (local) analytic sets of dimension $0\leq l \leq k$. For an ergodic probability measure $ν$, we extend similarly the notion of measure-theoretic entropy $h_ν^l(f)$. Under mild hypothesis, we compute $h^l_{\mathrm{top}}(f)$ in term of the dynamical degrees of $f$. In the particular case of endomorphisms of $\mathbb{P}^2$ of degree $d$, we show that $h^1_{\mathrm{top}}(f)= \log d$ for a large class of maps…
We prove some new continuity results for the Julia sets $J$ and $J^{+}$ of the complex Hénon map $H_{c,a}(x,y)=(x^{2}+c+ay, ax)$, where $a$ and $c$ are complex parameters. We look at the parameter space of dissipative Hénon maps which have a fixed point with one eigenvalue $(1+t)λ$, where $λ$ is a root of unity and $t$ is real and small in absolute value. These maps have a semi-parabolic fixed point when $t$ is $0$, and we use the techniques that we have developed in [RT] for the semi-parabolic case to describe nearby perturbations. We show that for small nonzero $|t|$, the Hénon map is hyperb…
Let $g(z)=\int_0^zp(t)\exp(q(t))\,dt+c$ where $p,q$ are polynomials and $c\in\mathbb{C}$, and let $f$ be the function from Newton's method for $g$. We show that under suitable assumptions the Julia set of $f$ has Lebesgue measure zero. Together with a theorem by Bergweiler, our result implies that $f^n(z)$ converges to zeros of $g$ almost everywhere in $\mathbb{C}$ if this is the case for each zero of $g''$. In order to prove our result, we establish general conditions ensuring that Julia sets have Lebesgue measure zero.
The Julia set of the exponential family $E_κ:z\mapstoκe^z$, $κ>0$ was shown to be the entire complex plane when $κ>1/e$ essentially by Misiurewicz. Later, Devaney and Krych showed that for $0<κ\leq1/e$ the Julia set is an uncountable union of pairwise disjoint simple curves tending to infinity. Bergweiler generalized the result of Devaney and Krych for a three dimensional analogue of the exponential map called the Zorich map. We show that the Julia set of certain Zorich maps with symmetry is the entire $\mathbb{R}^3$ generalizing Misiurewicz's result. Moreover, we show that the periodic points…
Let $f$ and $g$ be two quasiregular maps in $\mathbb{R}^d$ that are of transcendental type and also satisfy $f\circ g =g \circ f$. We show that if the fast escaping sets of those functions are contained in their respective Julia sets then those two functions must have the same Julia set. We also obtain the same conclusion about commuting quasimeromorphic functions with infinite backward orbit of infinity. Furthermore we show that permutable quasiregular functions of the form $f$ and $g=ϕ\circ f$, where $ϕ$ is a quasiconformal map, have the same Julia sets and that polynomial type quasiregular …
In this paper we show that if $p$ is a polynomial which bifurcates then the product map $(z,w)\mapsto(p(z),q(w))$ can be approximated by polynomial skew products possessing special dynamical objets called blenders. Moreover, these objets can be chosen to be of two types : repelling or saddle. As a consequence, such product map belongs to the closure of the interior of two different sets : the bifurcation locus of $H_d(\mathbb P^2)$ and the set of endomorphisms having an attracting set of non-empty interior. In an independent part, we use perturbations of Hénon maps to obtain examples of attrac…
The goal of this article is to study a rigidity property of Julia sets of certain classes of automorphisms in $\mathbb{C}^k$, $k \ge 3.$ First, we study the relation between two polynomial shift-like maps in $\mathbb{C}^k$, $k \ge 3$, that share the same backward and forward Julia sets (or non-escaping sets). Secondly, we study the relationship between any pair of skew products of Hénon maps in $\mathbb{C}^3$ having the same forward and backward Julia sets.
