A property $(D)$ of subshifts was defined in: Wolfgang Krieger, On $g$-functions for subshifts, IMS Lecture Notes- Monograph Series, Vol. 48, Dynamics & Stochastics (2006) 306 - 316, arXiv:math.DS/0608259. With a view towards a theory of $g$-fnctions beyond the case of finte type subshifts partially defined continuous $g$-functions of property $(D)$ subshifts are studied.
We study equidistribution of certain subsets of periodic orbits for subshifts of finite type. Our results solely rely on the growth of these subsets. As a consequence, effective equidistribution results are obtained for both hyperbolic diffeomorphisms and expanding maps on compact manifolds.
We study the thermodynamic formalism for particular types of sub-additive sequences on a class of subshifts over countable alphabets. The subshifts we consider include factors of irreducible countable Markov shifts under certain conditions. We show the variational principle for topological pressure. We also study conditions for the existence and uniqueness of invariant ergodic Gibbs measures and the uniqueness of equilibrium states. As an application, we extend the theory of factors of (generalized) Gibbs measures on subshifts on finite alphabets to that on certain subshifts over countable alp…
Subshifts with property $(A)$ are constructed from a class of directed graphs. As special cases the Markov-Dyck shifts are shown to have property $(A)$. The semigroups, that are associated to $\mathcal R$-graph shifts with Property (A), are determined. Also results on the reconstruction of $\mathcal R$-graphs from their $\mathcal R$-graph shifts are obtained.
We introduce a class of subshifts governed by finitely many two-sided infinite words. We call these words leading sequences. We show that any locally constant cocycle over such a subshift is uniform. From this we obtain Cantor spectrum of Lebesgue measure zero for associated Jacobi operators if the subshift is aperiodic. Our class covers all simple Toeplitz subshifts as well as all Sturmian subshifts. We apply our results to the spectral theory of Schreier graphs for uncountable families of groups acting on rooted trees.
The Zeta function, Periodic Points and Entropies of the Motzkin Shift
本文讨论了一种计算子移位的zeta函数的方法,这些子移位表示为一个有限的有向图,图的标号是相应的逆半群的元素。这类子移位是作为一类性质为A的子移位(T.Hamachi,K.Inoue和W.Krieger/Subsystems of有限型and semigroupinvariants of subshifts,预印本)引入的,Dyck移位和Motzkin移位是这类子移位的代表.用这种方法还可以给出周期点和熵的确切个数,并将这些值用于有限型不可约移位嵌入到该类子移位中的嵌入条件。
For a homeomorphism $T \colon X \to X$ of a Cantor set $X$, the mapping class group $\mathcal{M}(T)$ is the group of isotopy classes of orientation-preserving self-homeomorphisms of the suspension $Σ_{T}X$. The group $\mathcal{M}(T)$ can be interpreted as the symmetry group of the system $(X,T)$ with respect to the flow equivalence relation. We study $\mathcal{M}(T)$, focusing on the case when $(X,T)$ is a minimal subshift. We show that when $(X,T)$ is a subshift associated to a substitution, the group $\mathcal{M}(T)$ is an extension of $\mathbb{Z}$ by a finite group; for a large class of sub…
In this paper we study the quenched distributions of hitting times for a class of random dynamical systems. We prove that hitting times to dynamically defined cylinders converge to a Poisson point process under the law of random equivariant measures with super-polynomial decay of correlations. In particular, we apply our results to uniformly aperiodic random subshifts of finite type equipped with random invariant Gibbs measures. We emphasize that we make no assumptions about the mixing property of the marginal measure.
Given a dynamical system $(X,G)$, the centralizer $C(G)$ denotes the group of all homeomorphisms of $X$ which commute with the action of $G$. This group is sometimes called the automorphism group of the dynamical system $(X,G)$. In this note, we generalize the construction of Bulatek and Kwiatkowski (1992) to $\mathbb Z^d$-Toepltiz systems by identifying a class of $\mathbb Z^d$-Toeplitz systems that have trivial centralizers. We show that this class of $\mathbb Z^d$-Toeplitz with trivial centralizers contains systems with positive topological entropy.
Using techniques developed in \cite{KLR}, we verify Sarnak's conjecture for two classes of rank-one subshifts with unbounded cutting parameters. The first class of rank-one subshifts we consider are called {\em almost complete congruency classes} ({\em accc}), the definition of which is motivated by the main result of \cite{GS}, which implies that, when a rank-one subshift carries a unique non-atomic invariant probability measure, it is accc if it is measure-theoretically isomorphic to an odometer. The second class we consider consists of Katok's map and its generalizations.
The class of normal subshifts includes irreducible infinite topological Markov shifts, irreducible infinite sofic shifts, synchronized systems, Dyck shifts, $β$-shifts, substitution minimal shifts, and so on. We will characterize one-sided topological conjugacy classes of normal subshifts in terms of the associated $C^*$-algebras and its gauge actions with potentials.
We generalize Wagoner's representation of the automorphism group of a two-sided subshifts of finite type as the fundamental group of a certain CW-complex to groupoids having a certain refinement structure. This significantly streamlines the original proof and allows us to extend this construction to, e.g., the automorphism group of subshifts of finite type over arbitrary finitely generated groups and the automorphism group of G-SFTs.
We generalize the classical definition of effectively closed subshift to finitely generated groups. We study classical stability properties of this class and then extend this notion by allowing the usage of an oracle to the word problem of a group. This new class of subshifts forms a conjugacy class that contains all sofic subshifts. Motivated by the question of whether there exists a group where the class of sofic subshifts coincides with that of effective subshifts, we show that the inclusion is strict for several groups, including recursively presented groups with undecidable word problem, …
For a subshift $(X, σ_X)$ and a subadditive sequence $\mathcal{F}=\{\log f_n\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ on $X$, we study equivalent conditions for the existence of $h\in C(X)$ such that $\lim_{n\rightarrow\infty}(1/{n})\int \log f_n d μ=\int h d μ$ for every invariant measure $μ$ on $X$. For this purpose, we first we study necessary and sufficient conditions for $\mathcal{F}$ to be an asymptotically additive sequence in terms of certain properties for periodic points. For a factor map $π: X\rightarrow Y$, where $(X, σ_X)$ is an irreducible shift of finite type and $(Y, σ_Y)$ is a subshift, applying our…

Given a finite alphabet $Λ$, and a not necessarily finite type subshift $X\subseteq Λ^\infty$, we introduce a partial action of the free group $F(Λ)$ on a certain compactification $Ω_X$ of $X$, which we call the spectral partial action. The space $Ω_X$ has already appeared in many papers in the subject, arising as the spectrum of a commutative C*-algebra usually denoted by ${\cal D}_X$. Since the descriptions given of $Ω_X$ in the literature are often somewhat terse and obscure, one of our main goals is to present a sensible model for it which allows for a detailed study of its structure, as w…
We consider a class of tridiagonal operators induced by not necessary pseudoergodic biinfinite sequences. Using only elementary techniques we prove that the numerical range of such operators is contained in the convex hull of the union of the numerical ranges of the operators corresponding to the constant biinfinite sequences; whilst the other inclusion is shown to hold when the constant sequences belong to the subshift generated by the given biinfinite sequence. Applying recent results by S. N. Chandler-Wilde et al. and R. Hagger, which rely on limit operator techniques, we are able to provid…
We present sufficient conditions for the triviality of the automorphism group of regular Toeplitz subshifts and give a broad class of examples from the class of $\mathcal{B}$-free subshifts satisfying them, extending [10]. On the other hand we provide an example of a $\mathcal{B}$-free Toeplitz subshift whose automorphism group has elements of arbitrarily large finite order, answering Question 11 in [13].
We study a correspondence associating to each subshift $\mathcal X$ of $A^{\mathbb Z}$ a subcategory of the Karoubi envelope of the free profinite semigroup generated by $A$. The objects of this category are the idempotents in the mirage of $\mathcal X$, that is, in the set of pseudowords whose finite factors are blocks of $\mathcal X$. The natural equivalence class of the category is shown to be invariant under flow equivalence. As a corollary of our proof, we deduce the flow invariance of the profinite group that Almeida associated to each irreducible subshift. We also show, in a functorial …
Let $G$ be a group and let $V$ be an algebraic group over an algebraically closed field. We introduce algebraic group subshifts $Σ\subset V^G$ which generalize both the class of algebraic sofic subshifts of $V^G$ and the class of closed group subshifts over finite group alphabets. When $G$ is a polycyclic-by-finite group, we show that $V^G$ satisfies the descending chain condition and that the notion of algebraic group subshifts, the notion of algebraic group sofic subshifts, and that of algebraic group subshifts of finite type are all equivalent. Thus, we obtain extensions of well-known resul…
In this article, we pay attention to transitive dynamical systems having the shadowing property and the entropy functions are upper semicontinuous. As for these dynamical systems, when we consider ergodic optimization restricted on the subset of invariant measures whose metric entropy are equal or greater than a given constant, we prove that for generic real continuous functions the ergodic optimization measure is unique, ergodic, full support and have metric entropy equal to the given constant. Similar results also hold for suspension flows over transitive subshift of finite type, Cr (r\geq 2…
This paper provides a systematic study of fundamental combinatorial properties of one-dimensional, two-sided infinite simple Toeplitz subshifts. Explicit formulas for the complexity function, the palindrome complexity function and the repetitivity function are proven. Moreover, a complete description of the de Bruijn graphs of the subshifts is given. Finally, the Boshernitzan condition is characterised in terms of combinatorial quantities, based on a recent result of Liu and Qu. Particular simple characterisations are provided for simple Toeplitz subshifts that correspond to the orbital Schrei…
We embed Thompson's group $V$ in the mapping class group of a mixing subshift of finite type. Question~6.3 in [Boyle-Chuysurichay, 17] asks whether these mapping class groups are sofic. Our result suggests that this question is difficult to solve at present (at least for some mixing SFTs), since a resolution of it in either direction would solve an open problem in geometric group theory. More generally, we define the notion of a ``veelike action'', and prove that whenever a group acts veelike on a language, it embeds in the mapping class group of some subshift. We show that Thompson's $V$ acts…
Consider a compact metric space $(M, d_M)$ and $X = M^{\mathbb{N}}$. We prove a Ruelle's Perron Frobenius Theorem for a class of compact subshifts with Markovian structure introduced in [Bull. Braz. Math. Soc. 45 (2014), pp. 53-72] which are defined from a continuous function $A : M \times M \to \mathbb{R}$ that determines the set of admissible sequences. In particular, this class of subshifts includes the finite Markov shifts and models where the alphabet is given by the unit circle $S^1$. Using the involution Kernel, we characterize the normalized eigenfunction of the Ruelle operator associa…
