We prove that a 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras admitting an ad-invariant metric can be constructed from a vector space $\mathfrak v$ endowed with a inner product $<, >$ and an injective homomorphism $ρ: \mathfrak v \to \mathfrak{so}(\mathfrak v)$ satisfying $ρ(v)v=0$ for all $v\in \mathfrak v$. The corresponding simply connected pseudo-Riemannian Lie groups are flat and any isometry fixing the identity element does not depend on $ρ$. The description allows to construct examples starting with a compact semisimple Lie algebra and it is useful to show some applications.
In this article, we discuss the category $\mathcal{SN}_2$ where the objects are finite-dimensional nilpotent Lie superalgebras of class two and the category $\mathcal{SSKE}$ where the objects are skew-supersymmetric bilinear maps. We establish relation between $\mathcal{SN}_2$ and $\mathcal{SSKE}$. As a result, we discuss the capability of nilpotent Lie superalgebras of class two.
In this paper, we study the reflexive-nilpotents-property (briefly, RNP) for Ore extensions of injective type, and more generally, skew PBW extensions. With this aim, we introduce the notions of $Σ$-skew CN rings and $Σ$-skew reflexive (RNP) rings, for $Σ$ a finite family of ring endomorphisms of a ring $R$. Under certain conditions of compatibility, we study the transfer of the $Σ$-skew RNP property from a ring of coefficients to an Ore extension or skew PBW extension over this ring. We also consider this property for localizations of these noncommutative rings. Our results extend those corre…
We extend existing results on locally nilpotent differential polynomial rings to skew extensions of rings. We prove that if $\mathscr{G}=\{σ_t\}_{t\in T}$ is a locally finite family of automorphisms of an algebra $R$, $\mathscr{D}=\{δ_t\}_{t\in T}$ is a family of skew derivations of $R$ such that the prime radical $P$ of $R$ is strongly invariant under $\mathscr{D}$, then the ideal $P\langle T,\mathscr{G},\mathscr{D}\rangle^*$ of $R\langle T,\mathscr{G},\mathscr{D}\rangle$, generated by $P$, is locally nilpotent. We then apply this result to algebras with locally nilpotent derivations. We prov…
Let K be a skew field, and K_0 be a subfield of the central subfield of K such that K has finite dimension q over K_0. Let V be a K_0-linear subspace of n by n nilpotent matrices with entries in K. We show that the dimension of V is bounded above by q n(n-1)/2, and that equality occurs if and only if V is similar to the space of all n by n strictly upper-triangular matrices over K. This generalizes famous theorems of Gerstenhaber and Serezhkin, which cover the special case K=K_0.
Let D be an infinite division ring, n a natural number and N a subnormal subgroup of GLn(D) such that n = 1 or the center of D contains at least five elements. This paper contains two main results. In the first one we prove that each nilpotent maximal subgroup of N is abelian; this generalizes the result in [R. Ebrahimian, J. Algebra 280 (2004) 244 - 248] (which asserts that each max- imal subgroup of GLn(D) is abelian) and a result in [M. Ramezan-Nassab, D. Kiani, J. Algebra 376 (2013) 1 - 9]. In the second one we show that a maximal subgroup of GLn(D) cannot be polycyclic-by-finite.
We study series of left ideals of skew left braces that are analogs of upper central series of groups. These concepts allow us to define left and right nilpotent skew left braces. Several results related to these concepts are proved and applications to infinite left braces are given. Indecomposable solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation are explored using the structure of skew left braces.
We investigate the notions of weak annihilator and nilpotent associated prime defined by Ouyang and Birkenmeier \cite{OuyangBirkenmeier2012} in the setting of noncommutative rings having PBW bases. We extend several results formulated in the literature concerning annihilators and associated primes of commutative rings and skew polynomial rings to a more general setting of algebras not considered before. We exemplify our results with families of algebras appearing in the theory of enveloping algebras, differential operators on noncommutative spaces, noncommutative algebraic geometry, and theore…
We study relations between the additive and the multiplicative groups of a two-sided skew brace. In particular, we prove that if the additive group of a two-sided skew brace is finite solvable (respectively, finitely generated nilpotent, finitely generated residually nilpotent, finitely generated residually finite), then the multiplicative group of this skew brace is solvable (respectively, solvable, residually solvable, residually finite). Also, we prove that if the multiplicative group of a two-sided skew brace is nilpotent of nilpotency class $k$, then the additive group of this skew brace …
Building on the work of K. Chiba (J. Algebra 263 (2003), 75-87), we present sufficient conditions for the completion of a division ring with respect to the metric defined by a discrete valuation function to contain a free field, i.e. the universal field of fractions of a free associative algebra. Several applications to division rings generated by torsion-free nilpotent groups, skew Laurent series and related division rings are discussed.
Let R be a Lie nilpotent algebra of index k over a field K of characteristic zero. If G is an n-element subgroup of Aut(R) of the K-automorphisms, then we prove that R is right integral over Fix(G) of degree n^k. In the presence of a primitive n-th root of unity e in K, for a K-automorphism d in Aut(R) with d^n=id, we prove that the skew polynomial algebra R[w,d] is right integral of degree n^k over Fix(d)[w^n].

A subspace of an algebra with involution is called a Lie skew-ideal if it is closed under Lie products with skew-symmetric elements. Lie skew-ideals are classified in central simple algebras with involution (there are eight of them for involutions of the first kind and four for involutions of the second kind) and this classification result is used to characterize noncommutative polynomials via their values in these algebras. As an application, we deduce that a polynomial is a sum of commutators and a polynomial identity of $d\times d$ matrices if and only if all of its values in the algebra of…
Using Bieberbach groups we study multipermutation involutive solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation. We use a linear representation of the structure group of an involutive solution to study the unique product property in such groups. An algorithm to find subgroups of a Bieberbach group isomorphic to the Promislow subgroup is introduced and then used in the case of structure group of involutive solutions. To extend the results related to retractability to non-involutive solutions, following the ideas of Meng, Ballester-Bolinches and Romero, we develop the theory of right $p$-nilpotent skew brace…
We determine the skew fields of fractions of the enveloping algebra of the Lie superalgebra osp(1, 2) and of some significant subsu-peralgebras of the Lie superalgebra osp(1, 4). We compare the kinds of skew fields arising from this "super" context with the Weyl skew fields in the classical Gelfand-Kirillov property.
We consider associative algebras over a field. An algebra variety is said to be {\em Lie nilpotent} if it satisfies a polynomial identity of the kind $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n] = 0$ where $[x_1,x_2] = x_1x_2 - x_2x_1$ and $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n]$ is defined inductively by $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n]=[[x_1, x_2, ..., x_{n-1}],x_n]$. By Zorn's Lemma every non-Lie nilpotent variety contains a minimal such variety, called {\em almost Lie nilpotent}, as a subvariety. A description of almost Lie nilpotent varieties for algebras over a field of characteristic 0 was made up by Yu.Mal'cev. We find a list of non-pri…
We prove an analog of the Ado theorem - the existence of a finite-dimensional faithful representation - for a certain kind of finite-dimensional nilpotent Hom-Lie algebras.
We investigate and characterize several kinds of elements such as units, idempotents, von Neumann regular, $π$-regular and clean elements for skew PBW extensions over weak compatible rings. We also study the notions of Gelfand and Harmonic rings for these families of algebras. The results presented here extend those corresponding in the literature for commutative and noncommutative rings of polynomial type.
Quadratic descent of hermitian and skew hermitian forms over division algebras with involution of the first kind in arbitrary characteristic is investigated and a criterion, in terms of systems of quadratic forms, is obtained. A refined result is also obtained for hermitian (resp. skew hermitian) forms over a quaternion algebra with symplectic (resp. orthogonal) involution.
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of any characteristic except 2, and let $G = \GL_n(k)$ be the general linear group, regarded as an algebraic group over $k$. Using an algebro-geometric argument and Dynkin-Kostant theory for $G$ we begin by obtaining a canonical form for nilpotent $\Ad(G)$-orbits in $\glł_n(k)$ which is symmetric with respect to the non-main diagonal (i.e. it is fixed by the map $f : (x_{i,j})\mapsto (x_{n+1-j,n+1-i})$), with entries in $\{0,1\}$. We then show how to modify this form slightly in order to satisfy a non-degenerate symmetric or skew-symmetric bilinear form…
Motivated by some alternatives to the classical logical model of boolean algebra, this paper deals with algebraic structures which extend skew lattices by locally invertible elements. Following the meme of the Ehresmann-Schein-Nambooripad theorem, we consider a groupoid (small category of isomorphisms) in which the set of objects carries the structure of a skew lattice. The objects act on the morphisms by left and right restriction and extension mappings of the morphisms, imitating those of an inductive groupoid. Conditions are placed on the actions, from which pseudoproducts may be defined. T…
We prove a general theorem showing that iterated skew polynomial extensions of the type which fit the conditions needed by Cauchon's deleting derivations theory and by the Goodearl-Letzter stratification theory are unique factorisation rings in the sense of Chatters and Jordan. This general result applies to many quantum algebras; in particular, generic quantum matrices and quantized enveloping algebras of the nilpotent part of a semisimple Lie algebra are unique factorisation domains in the sense of Chatters. By using noncommutative dehomogenisation, the result also extends to generic quantum…
The quantum nilpotent algebras U^w_-(g), defined by De Concini-Kac-Procesi and Lusztig, are large classes of iterated skew polynomial rings with rich ring theoretic structure. In this paper, we prove in an explicit way that all torus invariant prime ideals of the algebras U^w_-(g) are polynormal. In the special case of the algebras of quantum matrices, this construction yields explicit polynormal generating sets consisting of quantum minors for all of their torus invariant prime ideals. This gives a constructive proof of the Goodearl-Lenagan polynormality conjecture. Furthermore we prove that …
Let V be the vector space of all skew-symmetric (non-associative) complex algebras of dimension n and L the algebraic subset of V of all Lie algebras. We consider the moment map for the action of GL(n) on the projective space P(V) and study the critical points of the functional F:square norm of the moment map, in order to understand the stratification of L defined by the negative gradient flow of F. We obtain a description of the critical points which lie in L in terms of those which are nilpotent, as well as the minima and maxima of F on L. A characterization of the critical points modulo iso…
