In this article we study proper symplectic and iso-symplectic embeddings of $4$--manifolds in $6$--manifolds. We show that a closed orientable smooth $4$--manifold admitting a Lefschetz fibration over $\C P^1$ admits a symplectic embedding in the symplectic manifold $(\C P^1 \times \C P^1 \times \C P^1, ω_{pr}),$ where $ω_{pr}$ is the product symplectic form on $\C P^1 \times \C P^1 \times \C P^1.$ We also show that there exists a sub-critical Weinstein $6$--manifold in which all finite type Weinstein $4$--manifolds admit iso-symplectic embeddings.
We introduce a surgery operation on symplectic manifolds called coisotropic Luttinger surgery, which generalizes Luttinger surgery on Lagrangian tori in symplectic 4-manifolds. We show that recent results of Friedl-Vidussi and Chen imply that a symplectic manifold admits a fixed point free circle action if and only if it admits a symplectic circle action and we give a complete description of the symplectic cone in this case. This then completes the characterisation of symplectic 4-manifolds that admit non-trivial circle actions.

This is the first of a series of papers devoted to the topology of symplectic Calabi-Yau $4$-manifolds endowed with certain symplectic finite group actions. We completely determine the fixed-point set structure of a finite cyclic action on a symplectic Calabi-Yau $4$-manifold with $b_1>0$. As an outcome of this fixed-point set analysis, the $4$-manifold is shown to be a $T^2$-bundle over $T^2$ in some circumstances, e.g., in the case where the group action is an involution which fixes a $2$-dimensional surface in the $4$-manifold. A near-symplectic structure on a 4-manifold is a closed 2-form that is symplectic away from the 1-dimensional submanifold along which it vanishes and that satisfies a certain transversality condition along this vanishing locus. We prove that if a closed oriented 4-manifold X fibers over a 2- or 3-dimensional manifold, in most cases all of its virtual Betti numbers are infinite. In turn, we show that a closed oriented 4-manifold X which is not a tower of torus bundles and fibering over a 2- or 3-dimensional manifold does not admit a torsion symplectic canonical class, nor is of Kodaira dimension zero.
In this short article we give a criterion whether a given minimal symplectic 4-manifold with $b_{2}^{+}=1$ having a torsion-free canonical class is rational or ruled. As a corollary, we confirm that most of homotopy elliptic surfaces $E(1}_{K}$, K is a fibered knot in $S^3$, constructed by R. Fintushel and R. Scattering symplectic manifolds are (closed) manifolds with a mildly degenerate Poisson structure. In particular they can be viewed as symplectic structures on a Lie algebroid which is almost everywhere isomorphic to the tangent bundle. In this paper we prove that all scattering symplectic manifolds arise as glueings of weak symplectic fillings of contact manifolds, and all pairs of weak symplectic fillings with matching boundaries can be glued to a scattering symplectic manifold.

We will show in general, without very strong conditions, the answer is negative. A Poisson manifold $(M^{2n},\p)$ is $b$-symplectic if $\bigwedge^n\p$ is transverse to the zero section. In this paper we apply techniques native to Symplectic Topology to address questions pertaining to $b$-symplectic manifolds. We provide constructions of $b$-symplectic structures on open manifolds by Gromov's $h$-principle, and of $b$-symplectic manifolds with a prescribed singular locus, by means of surgeries.
Product Lagrangian tori in standard symplectic space $R^{2n}$ were classified up to symplectomorphism in [Che96]. We extend this classification to tame symplectically aspherical symplectic manifolds. We show by examples that the asphericity assumption cannot be omitted.

We present some methods to construct smooth circle actions on symplectic manifolds with non-symplectic fixed point sets or non-symplectic cyclic isotropy point sets. All such actions are not compatible with any symplectic form.
We give a complete characterization of Hamiltonian actions of compact Lie groups on exact symplectic manifolds with proper momentum maps. We deduce that every Hamiltonian action of a compact Lie group on a contractible symplectic manifold with a proper momentum map is globally linearizable.
