Topological reconstruction theorems for varieties
We study Torelli-type theorems in the Zariski topology for varieties of dimension at least 2, over arbitrary fields. In place of the Hodge structure, we use the linear equivalence relation on Weil divisors. Using this setup, we prove a universal Torelli theorem in the sense of Bogomolov and Tschinkel. The proofs rely heavily on new variants of the classical Fundamental Theorem of Projective Geometry of Veblen and Young. Numerical reconstruction of curves from their Jacobians
We approach the Torelli problem of recostructing a curve from its Jacobian from a computational point of view. Following Dubrovin, we design a machinery to solve this problem effectively, which builds on methods in numerical algebraic geometry. We verify this methods via numerical experiments with curves up to genus 7.

Automorphisms of hyperkähler manifolds in the view of topological entropy
First we show that any group of automorphisms of null-entropy of a projective hyperkähler manifold $M$ is almost abelian of rank at most $ρ(M) - 2$. We then characterize automorphisms of a K3 surface with null-entropy and those with positive entropy in algebro-geometric terms. We also give an example of a group of automorphisms which is not almost abelian in each dimension.

A topological view of Gromov-Witten theory
We study relative Gromov-Witten theory via universal relations provided by the interaction of degeneration and localization. We find relative Gromov-Witten theory is completely determined by absolute Gromov-Witten theory. The relationship between the relative and absolute theories is guided by a strong analogy to classical topology. As an outcome, we present a mathematical determination of the Gromov-Witten invariants (in all genera) of the Calabi-Yau quintic 3-fold in terms of known theories.

Smoothings of cyclic quotient singularities from a topological point of view
For a smoothing Y of a 2-dimensional cyclic quotient singularity X, we construct a simple handle decomposition of Y by using a particular birational map from Y to the projective plane. The manifold Y is built up from the product of an annulus with a disk by attaching 2-handles in a manner which can be described by means of a plumbing graph. In particular, Y is homotopy equivalent to a 2-dimensional CW-complex with 1-skeleton a single circle.
