First we show that any group of automorphisms of null-entropy of a projective hyperkähler manifold $M$ is almost abelian of rank at most $ρ(M) - 2$. We then characterize automorphisms of a K3 surface with null-entropy and those with positive entropy in algebro-geometric terms. We also give an example of a group of automorphisms which is not almost abelian in each dimension.
Toric hyperk{ä}hler manifolds are quaternion analog of toric varieties. Bielawski pointed out that they can be glued by cotangent bundles of toric varieties. Following his idea, viewing both toric varieties and toric hyperk{ä}her manifolds as GIT quotients, we first establish geometrical criteria for the semi-stable points. Then based on these criteria, we show that the cotangent bundles of compact toric varieties in the core of toric hyperk{ä}hler manifold are sufficient to glue the desired toric hyperk{ä}hler manifold.
Let $M$ be an irreducible holomorphic symplectic (hyperkähler) manifold. If $b_2(M)\geq 5$, we construct a deformation $M'$ of $M$ which admits a symplectic automorphism of infinite order. This automorphism is hyperbolic, that is, its action on the space of real $(1,1)$-classes is hyperbolic. If $b_2(M) \geq 14$, similarly, we construct a deformation which admits a parabolic automorphism.
The present paper proves that finite symplectic groups of automorphisms of hyperkähler fourfolds deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of two points on a $K3$ surface are contained in the simple group $Co_1$. Then we give an example of a symplectic automorphism of order 11 on the Fano scheme of lines of a cubic fourfold.
Let $X$ be a hyperkähler variety, and assume that $X$ admits a non-symplectic automorphism $σ$ of order $k>{1\over 2}\dim X$. Bloch's conjecture predicts that the quotient $X/<σ>$ should have trivial Chow group of $0$-cycles. We verify this for Fano varieties of lines on certain cubic fourfolds having an order $3$ non-symplectic automorphism.

Bloch's conjecture predicts that the quotient $X/<σ>$ should have trivial Chow group of $0$-cycles. We verify this for Fano varieties of lines on certain special cubic fourfolds having an order $3$ non--symplectic automorphism.
Being inspired by a work of Curtis T. McMullen about a very impressive automorphism of a K3 surface of Picard number zero, we shall clarify the structure of the bimeromorphic automorphism group of a non-projective hyperkähler manifold, up to finite group factor. We also discuss relevant topics, especially, new counterexamples of Kodaira's problem about algebraic approximation of a compact Kähler manifold.
The present paper provides several results on automorphisms of hyperkähler (or irreducible holomorphic symplectic) manifolds. In particular it focuses on the symplectic case and contains a classification of prime order symplectic automorphisms on deformations of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface and, with additional hypothesis, also on Hilbert schemes of n points on a K3 surface. We also give numerical conditions to establish whether a symplectic automorfism of order 2,3 and 5 on a deformation of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface is standard. Moreover we also give…
Let $X$ be a hyperkähler variety, and let $G$ be a group of finite order non-symplectic automorphisms of $X$. Beauville's conjectural splitting property predicts that each Chow group of $X$ should split in a finite number of pieces. The Bloch-Beilinson conjectures predict how $G$ should act on these pieces of the Chow groups: certain pieces should be invariant under $G$, while certain other pieces should not contain any non-trivial $G$-invariant cycle. We can prove this for two pieces of the Chow groups when $X$ is the Hilbert scheme of a $K3$ surface and $G$ consists of natural automorphisms.…
One central problem in real algebraic geometry is to classify the real structures of a given complex manifold. We address this problem for compact hyperkähler manifolds by showing that any such manifold admits only finitely many real structures up to equivalence. We actually prove more generally that there are only finitely many, up to conjugacy, faithful finite group actions by holomorphic or anti-holomorphic automorphisms (the so-called Klein actions). In other words, the automorphism group and the Klein automorphism group of a compact hyperkähler manifold contain only finitely many conjugac…
We give a classification of all non-symplectic automorphisms of prime order p acting on irreducible holomorphic symplectic fourfolds deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface, for p=2,3 and 7\leq p \leq 19. Our classification relates the isometry classes of two natural lattices associated to the action of the automorphism on the second cohomology group with integer coefficients with some invariants of the fixed locus and we provide explicit examples. As an application, we find new examples of non-natural non-symplectic automorphisms.
We construct examples of hyperKahler manifolds of Picard number two with automorphisms of positive entropy via derived automorphisms of K3 surfaces of Picard number one. Our hyperKahler manifolds are constructed as moduli spaces of Bridgeland stable objects in derived categories of K3 surfaces. Then automorphisms of positive entropy are induced by derived automorphisms of positive entropy on K3 surfaces.
We first prove an isomorphism between the moduli space of smooth cubic threefolds and the moduli space of hyperkaehler fourfolds of K3^{[2]}-type with a non-symplectic automorphism of order three, whose invariant lattice has rank one and is generated by a class of square 6, both these spaces are uniformized by the same 10-dimensional arithmetic complex ball quotient. We then study the degeneration of the automorphism along the loci of nodal or chordal degenerations of the cubic threefold, showing the birationality of these loci with some moduli spaces of hyperkaehler fourfolds of K3^{[2]}-type…
We describe all the dynamical degrees of automorphisms of hyperkähler manifolds in terms of the first dynamical degree. We also present two explicit examples of different geometric flavours.

We prove that the automorphism group of an odd dimensional Calabi-Yau manifold of Picard number two is always a finite group. This makes a sharp contrast to the automorphism groups of K3 surfaces and hyperkähler manifolds and birational automorphism groups, as we shall see. We also clarify the relation between finiteness of the automorphism group (resp. birational automorphism group) and the rationality of the nef cone (resp. movable cone) for a hyperkähler manifold of Picard number two. We will also discuss a similar conjectual relation together with exsistence of rational curve, expected by …
We prove that there exists a holomorphic symplectic manifold deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface that admits a non-symplectic automorphism of order 23, that is the maximal possible prime order in this deformation family. The proof uses the theory of ideal lattices in cyclomotic fields.
We study groups of bimeromorphic and biholomorphic automorphisms of projective hyperkähler manifolds. Using an action of these groups on some non-positively curved space, we deduce many of their properties, including finite presentation, strong form of Tits' alternative and some structural results about groups consisting of transformations with infinite order.
The aim of these notes is to acquaint the reader with important objects in complex algebraic geometry: K3 surfaces and their higher-dimensional analogs, hyperkähler manifolds. These manifolds are interesting from several points of view: dynamical (some have interesting automorphism groups), arithmetical (although we will not say anything on this aspect of the theory), and geometric. It is also one of those rare cases where the Torelli theorem allows for a powerful link between the geometry of these manifolds and lattice theory. We do not prove all the results that we state. Our aim is more to …
This note contains some examples of hyperkähler varieties $X$ having a group $G$ of non-symplectic automorphisms, and such that the action of $G$ on certain Chow groups of $X$ is as predicted by Bloch's conjecture. The examples range in dimension from $6$ to $132$. For each example, the quotient $Y=X/G$ is a Calabi-Yau variety which has interesting Chow-theoretic properties; in particular, the variety $Y$ satisfies (part of) a strong version of the Beauville-Voisin conjecture.
Let $X$ be a projective surface or a hyperkähler manifold and $G \le Aut(X)$. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a non-trivial $G$-equivariant fibration on $X$. We also show that two automorphisms $g_i$ of positive entropy and polarized by the same nef divisor are the same up to powers, provided that either $X$ is not an abelian surface or the $g_i$ share at least one common periodic point. The surface case is known among experts, but we treat this case together with the hyperkähler case using the same language of hyperbolic lattice and following Ratcliffe or Ogu…
We define the Kobayashi quotient of a complex variety by identifying points with vanishing Kobayashi pseudodistance between them and show that if a compact complex manifold has an automorphism whose order is infinite, then the fibers of this quotient map are nontrivial. We prove that the Kobayashi quotients associated to ergodic complex structures on a compact manifold are isomorphic. We also give a proof of Kobayashi's conjecture on the vanishing of the pseudodistance for hyperkähler manifolds having Lagrangian fibrations without multiple fibers in codimension one. For a hyperbolic automorphi…
The present paper is devoted to the classification of symplectic automorphisms of some hyperkähler manifolds. The results contained here are an explicit classification of prime order automorphisms on manifolds of $K3^{[n]}$ type and a proof that all finite groups of symplectic automorphisms of such manifolds are contained in Conway's group $Co_1$.
This is an improved version of the eprint previously entitled "Unexpected isomorphisms between hyperkähler fourfolds." We study smooth projective hyperkähler fourfolds that are deformations of Hilbert squares of K3 surfaces and are equipped with a polarization of fixed degree and divisibility. They are parametrized by a quasi-projective irreducible 20-dimensional moduli space and Verbitksy's Torelli theorem implies that their period map is an open embedding. Our main result is that the complement of the image of the period map is a finite union of explicit Heegner divisors that we describe. We…
We determine the subgroup of automorphisms acting trivially on the second integral cohomology for hyperkaehler manifolds which are deformation equivalent to O'Grady's sporadic examples. In particular, we prove that this subgroup is trivial in the ten dimensional case and isomorphic to $(\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^{\times 8}$ in the six dimensional case. Furthermore we study the fixed loci of the automorphisms in the six dimensional case.
We classify the group of birational automorphisms of Hilbert schemes of points on algebraic K3 surfaces of Picard rank one. We study whether these automorphisms are symplectic or non-symplectic and if there exists a hyperkähler birational model on which they become biregular. We also present new geometrical constructions of these automorphisms.
Let M be a 2n-dimensional Kahler manifold deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of length n subschemes of a K3 surface S. Let Mon be the group of automorphisms of the cohomology ring of M, which are induced by monodromy operators. The second integral cohomology of M is endowed with the Beauville-Bogomolov bilinear form. We prove that the restriction homomorphism from Mon to the isometry group O[H^2(M)] is injective, for infinitely many n, and its kernel has order at most 2, in the remaining cases. For all n, the image of Mon in O[H^2(M)] is the subgroup generated by reflections with res…
We show an analogous result of the famous Tits alternative for a group G of birational automorphisms of a projective hyperkäher manifold: Either G contains a non-commutative free group or G is an almost abelian group of finite rank. As an application, we show that the automorphism groups of the so-called singular K3 surfaces contain non-commutative free groups.
We consider the moduli space $\mathcal{M}(G)$ of $G$-Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface $X$, where $G$ is a complex semisimple Lie group. This is a hyperkähler manifold homeomorphic to the moduli space $\mathcal{R}(G)$ of representations of the fundamental group of $X$ in $G$. In this paper we study finite order automorphisms of $\mathcal{M}(G)$ obtained by combining the action of an element of order $n$ in $H^1(X,Z)\rtimes \mbox{Out}(G)$, where $Z$ is the centre of $G$ and $\mbox{Out}(G)$ is the group of outer automorphisms of $G$, with the multiplication of the Higgs field by an $n…
We prove that the natural representaion, on the total Betti cohomolgy group, of the automorphism group of a hyperkähler manifold deformation equivalent to a generalized Kummer manifold is faithful. This is a sort of generalization of an earlier work of Beauville and a recent work of Boissére, Nieper-Wisskirchan and Sarti, concerning the representation on the second cohomology group.
We study algebraic actions of finite groups of quiver automorphisms on moduli spaces of quiver representations. We decompose the fixed loci using group cohomology and we give a modular interpretation of each component. As an application, we construct branes in hyperkaehler quiver varieties, as fixed loci of such actions.
Let $M$ be a compact hyperkahler manifold with maximal holonomy (IHS). The group $H^2(M, R)$ is equipped with a quadratic form of signature $(3, b_2-3)$, called Bogomolov-Beauville-Fujiki (BBF) form. This form restricted to the rational Hodge lattice $H^{1,1}(M,Q)$, has signature $(1,k)$. This gives a hyperbolic Riemannian metric on the projectivisation of the positive cone in $H^{1,1}(M,Q)$, denoted by $H$. Torelli theorem implies that the Hodge monodromy group $Γ$ acts on $H$ with finite covolume, giving a hyperbolic orbifold $X=H/Γ$. We show that there are finitely many geodesic hypersurfac…
