We develop some results on the positivity of direct image bundles in the particular case of a trivial fibration over a one-dimensional base. We also apply the results to study variations of Kahler metrics.
We establish the convexity of Mabuchi's K-energy functional along weak geodesics in the space of Kahler potentials on a compact Kahler manifold thus confirming a conjecture of Chen and give some applications in Kahler geometry, including a proof of the uniqueness of constant scalar curvature metrics (or more generally extremal metrics) modulo automorphisms. The key ingredient is a new local positivity property of weak solutions to the homogenuous Monge-Ampere equation on a product domain, whose proof uses plurisubharmonic variation of Bergman kernels.
A new proof of Oka's lemma is given for smoothly bounded, pseudoconvex domains $D\subset\mathbb{C}^n$. The method of proof is then also applied to other convexity-like hypotheses on the boundary of $D$.
Let $X$ be a Kähler manifold which is fibered over a complex manifold $Y$ such that every fiber is a Calabi-Yau manifold. Let $ω$ be a fixed Kähler form on $X$. By Yau's theorem, there exists a unique Ricci-flat Kähler form $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ for each fiber, which is cohomologous to $ω\vert_{X_y}$. This family of Ricci-flat Kähler forms $ρ\vert_{X_y}$ induces a smooth $(1,1)$-form $ρ$ on $X$ with a normalization condition. In this paper, we prove that the direct image of $ρ^{n+1}$ is positive on the base $Y$. We also discuss several byproducts, among them the local triviality of families of Calabi…
Tian initiated the study of incomplete Kähler-Einstein metrics on quasi-projective varieties with cone-edge type singularities along a divisor, described by the cone-angle $2π(1-α)$ for $α\in (0, 1)$. In this paper we study how the existence of such Kähler-Einstein metrics depends on $α$. We show that in the negative scalar curvature case, if such Kähler-Einstein metrics exist for all small cone-angles then they exist for every $α\in(\frac{n+1}{n+2}, 1)$, where $n$ is the dimension. We also give a characterization of the pairs that admit negatively curved cone-edge Kähler-Einstein metrics with…
This is a survey of results on positivity of vector bundles, inspired by the Brunn-Minkowski and Prékopa theorems. Applications to complex analysis, Kähler geometry and algebraic geometry are also discussed.
We establish the essentially optimal form of Donaldson's geodesic stability conjecture regarding existence of constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics. We carry this out by exploring in detail the metric geometry of Mabuchi geodesic rays, and the uniform convexity properties of the space of Kähler metrics.
We prove that a compact, immersed, submanifold of C^n, lagrangian for a Kahler form, is rationally convex, generalizing a theorem of Duval and Sibony for embedded submanifolds.
We give some remarks on geodesics in the space of Kähler metrics that are defined for all time. Such curves are conjecturally induced by holomorphic vector fields, and we show that this is indeed so for regular geodesics, whereas the question for generalized geodesics is still open (as far as we know). We also give a result about the derivative of such geodesics which implies a variant of a theorem of Atiyah and Guillemin-Sternberg on convexity of the image of certain moment maps.
Let $(X,ω)$ be a compact connected Kähler manifold and denote by $(\mathcal E^p,d_p)$ the metric completion of the space of Kähler potentials $\mathcal H_ω$ with respect to the $L^p$-type path length metric $d_p$. First, we show that the natural analytic extension of the (twisted) Mabuchi K-energy to $\mathcal E^p$ is a $d_p$-lsc functional that is convex along finite energy geodesics. Second, following the program of J. Streets, we use this to study the asymptotics of the weak (twisted) Calabi flow inside the CAT(0) metric space $(\mathcal E^2,d_2)$. This flow exists for all times and coincid…
We show that if a compact complex manifold admits a Kähler metric whose holomorphic sectional curvature is everywhere non positive and strictly negative in at least one point, then its canonical bundle is positive.
In this paper, we show the convexity of the image of a moment map on a transverse symplectic manifold equipped with a torus action under a certain condition. We also study properties of moment maps in the case of transverse Kähler manifolds. As an application, we give a positive answer to the conjecture posed by Cupit-Foutou and Zaffran.
In this paper, we introduce a concept of RC-positivity for Hermitian holomorphic vector bundles and prove that, if $E$ is an RC-positive vector bundle over a compact complex manifold $X$, then for any vector bundle $A$, there exists a positive integer $c_A=c(A,E)$ such that $$H^0(X,\mathrm{Sym}^{\otimes \ell}E^*\otimes A^{\otimes k})=0$$ for $\ell\geq c_A(k+1)$ and $k\geq 0$. Moreover, we obtain that, on a compact Kähler manifold $X$, if $Λ^p T_X$ is RC-positive for every $1\leq p\leq \dim X$, then $X$ is projective and rationally connected. As applications, we show that if a compact Kähler ma…
We give new characterizations of plurisubharmonic functions and Griffiths positivity of holomorphic vector bundles with singular Finsler metrics. As applications, we present a different method to prove plurisubharmonic variation of generalized Bergman kernel metrics and Griffiths positivity of the direct images of twisted relative canonical bundles associated to holomorphic families of Kähler manifolds.
We show the optimal $C^{1,1}$ regularity of geodesics in nef and big cohomology class on Kähler manifolds away from the non-Kähler locus, assuming sufficiently regular initial data. As a special case, we prove the $C^{1,1}$ regularity of geodesics of Kähler metrics on compact Kähler varieties away from the singular locus. Our main novelty is an improved boundary estimate for the complex Monge-Ampère equation that does not require strict positivity of the reference form near the boundary. We also discuss the case of some special geodesic rays.
Motivated by our previous work on Hodge-index type inequalities, we give a form of mixed Hodge-Riemann bilinear relation by using the notion of $m$-positivity, whose proof is an adaptation of the works of Timorin and Dinh-Nguyên. This mixed Hodge-Riemann bilinear relation holds with respect to mixed polarizations in which some satisfy particular positivity condition, but could be degenerate along some directions. In particular, it applies to fibrations of compact Kähler manifolds.
In recent papers Wu-Yau, Tosatti-Yang and Diverio-Trapani, used some natural differential inequalities for compact Kähler manifolds with quasi negative holomorphic sectional curvature to derive positivity of the canonical bundle. In this note we study the equality case of these inequalities.

By applying the positivity theorem of direct images and a pluricanonical version of the structure theorem on the cohomology jumping loci à la Green-Lazarsfeld-Simpson, we show that the klt Kähler version of the Iitaka conjecture $C_{n,m}$ (Ueno, 1975) for $f:X\to Y$ (surjective morphism between compact Kähler manifolds with connected general fibre) holds true when the determinant of the direct image of some power of the relative canonical bundle is big on $Y$ or when $Y$ is a complex torus. These generalize the corresponding results of Viehweg (1983) and of Cao-P\u aun (2017) respectively. We …
In this paper, we study the Nakano-positivity and dual-Nakano-positivity of certain adjoint vector bundles associated to ample vector bundles. As applications, we get new vanishing theorems about ample vector bundles. For example, we prove that if $E$ is an ample vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold $X$, $S^kE\ts \det E$ is both Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive for any $k\geq 0$. Moreover, $H^{n,q}(X,S^kE\ts \det E)=H^{q,n}(X,S^kE\ts \det E)=0$ for any $q\geq 1$. In particular, if $(E,h)$ is a Griffiths-positive vector bundle, the naturally induced Hermitian vector bundle $(S^k…
This survey article mainly addresses to graduate students and young researchers in complex geometry willing to enter the beautiful word of connections between curvature and Kobayashi hyperbolicity. It is a detailed account of a recent breakthrough by Wu and Yau, shortly after generalized by Tosatti and Yang (and others), which sits on the crossroad between complex differential geometry and Kobayashi hyperbolicity. More specifically, an old conjecture by Kobayashi, stated at the very beginning of the theory, predicts that a compact hyperbolic manifold should have ample canonical bundle. Now, on…
A commutative associative algebra A with an identity over the field of real numbers which has a basis, where all elements are invertible, is considered in the work. Moreover, among matrixes consisting of the structure constants of A, there is at least one that is non-degenerate. The notion of linearly convex domains in the multi-dimensional complex space and some of their properties are generalized to the space that is the Cartesian product of n algebras A. Namely, the separate necessary and sufficient conditions of the local A-linear convexity of domains with smooth boundary in the space are …
In this article, we will characterize regular points respectively by the local vanishing, positivity of the Ricci curvature and $L^2$-solvability of the $\overline\partial$-equation together with Skoda's theorem for Nadel-Lebesgue multiplier ideal sheaves associated to plurisubharmonic (psh) functions on any (reduced) complex space of pure dimension. As a by-product, we show that any weak Kähler-Einstein metric on \emph{singular} $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano/Calabi-Yau/general type varieties cannot be smooth, and that in general there exists no \emph{singular} normal Kähler complex space such that the Kä…
Let M be a (bounded or not) domain of C^n which is complete with respect to a Kähler metric, or more generally, a complete Kähler manifold with trivial canonical bundle. Let f be a linearly nondegenerate meromorphic map from M to the complex projective space P^m. Under an assumption on the positivity of the pull-back by f of the Fubini-Study form on P^m, we prove that f can not omit a certain number of hyperplanes in subgeneral position in P^m. This is deduced directly from a non-integrated defect relation for such f which generalizes that obtained by Fujimoto in the case where M is a ball.
In the present paper, we study the properties of singular Nakano positivity of singular hermitian metrics on holomorphic vector bundles, and establish an optimal $L^2$ extension theorem for holomorphic vector bundles with singular hermitian metrics on weakly pseudoconvex Kähler manifolds. As applications, we give a necessary condition for the holding of the equality in optimal $L^2$ extension theorem, and present singular hermitian holomorphic vector bundle versions of some $L^2$ extension theorems with optimal estimate.
Let f : X --> Y be a holomorphic map of complex manifolds, which is proper, Kahler, and surjective with connected fibers, and which is smooth over Y-Z the complement of an analytic subset Z. Let E be a Nakano semi-positive vector bundle on X, and consider direct image sheaves F = R^qf_*(K_{X/Y} \otimes E) for q \geq 0. In our previous paper, we discussed the Nakano semi-positivity of F with respect to the so-called Hodge metric, when the map f is smooth. In this paper, we discuss the extension of the induced metric on the tautological line bundle O(1) on the projective space bundle P(F) ``over…
In this paper we prove a uniqueness theorem on generalized Kahler-Einstein metrics on Fano manifolds. Our result generalize the one shown by Berndtsson using the convexity properties of Bergman kernels. The same technics as well as that of the regularization of closed positive currents and an estimate due to Demailly-Kollar will be used in our proof.
Given a family $f:\mathcal X \to S$ of canonically polarized manifolds, the unique Kähler-Einstein metrics on the fibers induce a hermitian metric on the relative canonical bundle $\mathcal K_{\mathcal X/S}$. We use a global elliptic equation to show that this metric is strictly positive on $\mathcal X$, unless the family is infinitesimally trivial. For degenerating families we show that the curvature form on the total space can be extended as a (semi-)positive closed current. By fiber integration it follows that the generalized Weil-Petersson form on the base possesses an extension as a posit…
Let $M = \tilde{M}/Γ$ be a Kahler manifold, where $\tilde{M}$ is the universal Kahler cover, and where $Γ$ is the deck transformation group. Let $(L, h) \to M$ be a positive Hermitian holomorophic line bundle. Lift the Hermitian line bundle to $\tilde{M}$ and consider the relation between the orthogonal projection onto holomorphic sections on the quotient and onto $L^2$ holomorphic sections on $\tilde{M}$. We prove that the quotient Szego kernel is given by the periodization of the $L^2$ Szego kernel of the universal cover, i.e. its sum over the deck group $Γ$. Although this is a standard resu…
Let $X$ be a compact complex, not necessarily Kähler, manifold of dimension $n$. We characterise the volume of any holomorphic line bundle $L\to X$ as the supremum of the Monge-Ampère masses $\int_X T_{ac}^n$ over all closed positive currents $T$ in the first Chern class of $L$, where $T_{ac}$ is the absolutely continuous part in the Lebesgue decomposition. This result, new in the non-Kähler context, can be seen as holomorphic Morse inequalities for the cohomology of high tensor powers of line bundles endowed with arbitrarily singular Hermitian metrics. It gives, in particular, a new bigness c…
