A graph is $(c_1, c_2, ..., c_k)$-colorable if the vertex set can be partitioned into $k$ sets $V_1,V_2, ..., V_k$, such that for every $i: 1\leq i\leq k$ the subgraph $G[V_i]$ has maximum degree at most $c_i$. Motivated by the Erdős-Faber-Lovász (EFL) conjecture for hypergraphs, we consider the list edge coloring of linear hypergraphs. We discuss several conjectures for list edge coloring linear hypergraphs that generalize both EFL and Vizing's theorem for graphs. For example, we conjecture that in a linear hypergraph of rank 3, the list edge chromatic number is at most 2 times the maximum degree plus 1. We show that for sufficiently large fixed rank and sufficiently large degree, the conjectures are true.

The vertex set of $G'$ consists of all $χ$-colorings of $G$, and two $χ$-colorings are adjacent when they differ on exactly one vertex. In 1971, Tomescu conjectured that every connected graph $G$ on $n$ vertices with chromatic number $k\geq4$ has at most $k!(k-1)^{n-k}$ proper $k$-colorings. A linear hypergraph is intersecting if any two different edges have exactly one common vertex and an $n$-quasicluster is an intersecting linear hypergraph with $n$ edges each one containing at most $n$ vertices and every vertex is contained in at least two edges. The Erdös-Faber-Lovász Conjecture states that the chromatic number of any $n$-quasicluster is at most $n$. In the present note we prove the correctness of the conjecture for a new infinite class of $n$-quasiclusters using a specific edge coloring of the complete graph.

Frédéric Meunier's question about a multicolored Sperner lemma is addressed, leaving the question of connectivity for the color hypergraphs of such a multicolored simplex. Sperner's lemma asserts the existence of a simplex using all the colors for any vertex coloring of a subdivision of a large simplex with appropriate boundary conditions. We collect some of our favorite proofs of Brooks' Theorem, highlighting advantages and extensions of each. The proofs illustrate some of the major techniques in graph coloring, such as greedy coloring, Kempe chains, hitting sets, and the Kernel Lemma. We also discuss standard strengthenings of vertex coloring, such as list coloring, online list coloring, and Alon--Tarsi orientations, since analogues of Brooks' Theorem hold in each context. We conclude with two conjectures along the lines of Brooks' Theorem that are much stronger, the Borodin--Kostochka Conjecture and Reed's Conjecture.

Square coloring is a variant of graph coloring where vertices within distance two must receive different colors. When considering planar graphs, the most famous conjecture (Wegner, 1977) states that $\frac32Δ+1$ colors are sufficient to square color every planar graph of maximum degree $Δ$. This conjecture has been proven asymptotically for graphs with large maximum degree. We consider here planar graphs with small maximum degree and show that $2Δ+7$ colors are sufficient, which improves the best known bounds when $6\leqslant Δ\leqslant 31$.

Hadwiger's conjecture is one of the most important and long-standing conjectures in graph theory. Reed and Seymour showed in 2004 that Hadwiger's conjecture is true for line graphs. We investigate this conjecture on the closely related class of total graphs. A strong edge-coloring $φ$ of a graph $G$ assigns colors to edges of $G$ such that $φ(e_1)\ne φ(e_2)$ whenever $e_1$ and $e_2$ are at distance no more than 1. It is equivalent to a proper vertex coloring of the square of the line graph of $G$. In 1990 Faudree, Schelp, Gyárfás, and Tuza conjectured that if $G$ is a bipartite graph with maximum degree 3 and sufficiently large girth, then $G$ has a strong edge-coloring with at most 5 colors. In 2021 this conjecture was disproved by Lužar, Mačajová, Škoviera, and Soták. Here we give an alternative construction to disprove the conjecture.
