A family of continuous-time generalized autoregressive conditionally heteroscedastic processes, generalizing the $\operatorname {COGARCH}(1,1)$ process of Klüppelberg, Lindner and Maller [J. Appl. Probab. 41 (2004) 601--622], is introduced and studied. The resulting $\operatorname {COGARCH}(p,q)$ processes, $q\ge p\ge 1$, exhibit many of the characteristic features of observed financial time series, while their corresponding volatility and squared increment processes display a broader range of autocorrelation structures than those of the $\operatorname {COGARCH}(1,1)$ process. We establish sufficient conditions for the existence of a strictly stationary nonnegative solution of the equations for the volatility process and, under conditions which ensure the finiteness of the required moments, determine the autocorrelation functions of both the volatility and the squared increment processes. The volatility process is found to have the autocorrelation function of a continuous-time autoregressive moving average process.
We consider a class of perpetuities which admit direct characterization of asymptotics of the key truncated moment. The class contains perpetuities without polynomial decay of tail probabilities and thus not satisfying Kesten's theorem. We show how to apply this result in deriving a new weak law of large numbers for solutions to stochastic recurrence equations and a new central limit theorem for GARCH(1,1) processes in the critical case.
We investigate the properties of a continuous time GARCH process as the solution to a Lévy driven stochastic functional integral equation. This process occurs as a weak limit of a sequence of discrete time GARCH processes as the time between observations converges to zero and the number of lags grows to infinity. The resulting limit generalizes the COGARCH process and can be interpreted as a COGARCH process with higher orders of lags. We give conditions for the existence, uniqueness and regularity of the solution to the integral equation, and derive a more conventional representation of the pr…
We study the class of semi-Levy driven continuous-time GARCH, denoted by SLD-COGARCH, process. The statistical properties of this process are characterized. We show that the state process of such process can be described by a random recurrence equation with the periodic random coeffcients. We establish sufficient conditions for the existence of a strictly periodically stationary solution of the state process which causes the volatility process to be strictly periodically stationary. Furthermore, it is shown that the increments with constant length of such SLD-COGARCH process are themselves a d…
We prove existence and uniqueness of a stationary distribution and absolute regularity for nonlinear GARCH and INGARCH models of order (p,q). In contrast to previous work we impose, besides a geometric drift condition, only a semi-contractive condition which allows us to include models which would be ruled out by a fully contractive condition. This results in a subgeometric rather than the more usual geometric decay rate of the mixing coefficients. The proofs are heavily based on a coupling of two versions of the processes. We prove existence and uniqueness of a stationary distribution and abso…
We study bivariate stochastic recurrence equations (SREs) motivated by applications to GARCH(1,1) processes. If coefficient matrices of SREs have strictly positive entries, then the Kesten result applies and it gives solutions with regularly varying tails. Moreover, the tail indices are the same for all coordinates. However, for applications, this framework is too restrictive. We study SREs when coefficients are triangular matrices and prove that the coordinates of the solution may exhibit regularly varying tails with different indices. We also specify each tail index together with its constan…
For a strictly stationary sequence of $\mathbb{R}_{+}^{d}$--valued random vectors we derive functional convergence of partial maxima stochastic processes under joint regular variation and weak dependence conditions. The limit process is an extremal process and the convergence takes place in the space of $\mathbb{R}_{+}^{d}$--valued càdlàg functions on $[0,1]$, with the Skorohod weak $M_{1}$ topology. We also show that this topology in general can not be replaced by the stronger (standard) $M_{1}$ topology. The theory is illustrated on three examples, including the multivariate squared GARCH pr…
Motivated from option and derivative pricing, this note develops Edgeworth expansions both in the Kolmogorov and Wasserstein metric for many different types of discrete time volatility models and their possible transformations. This includes, among others, Hölder-type functions of (augmented) Garch processes of any order, iterated random functions or Volterra-processes.
A Class of Generalized Hyperbolic Continuous Time Integrated Stochastic Volatility Likelihood Models
Every adapted absolutely continuous process has a predictable density. The set of adapted absolutely continuous processes equals the set of time integrals of progressive or predictable pathwise locally integrable processes.
We introduce the class of continuous-time autoregressive moving-average (CARMA) processes in Hilbert spaces. As driving noises of these processes we consider Levy processes in Hilbert space. We provide the basic definitions, show relevant properties of these processes and establish the equivalents of CARMA processes on the real line. Finally, CARMA processes in Hilbert space are linked to the stochastic wave equation and functional autoregressive processes.
For a positive continuous function f satisfying some standard conditions, we study the f-moments of continuous-state branching processes with or without immigration. The main results give criteria for the existence of the f-moments. The characterization of the processes in terms of stochastic equations given by Dawson and Li (2012) plays an essential role in the proofs.
The long-term behaviors of flows of continuous-state branching processes are characterized through subordinators and extremal processes. The extremal processes arise in the case of supercritical processes with infinite mean and of subcritical processes with infinite variation. The jumps of these extremal processes are interpreted as specific initial individuals whose progenies overwhelm the population. These individuals, which correspond to the records of a certain Poisson point process embedded in the flow, are called super-individuals. They radically increase the growth rate to $+\infty$ in …
In this paper, we first use PDE techniques and probabilistic methods to identify a kind of quasi-continuous random variables. Then we give a characterization of the $G$-integrable processes and get a kind of quasi-continuous processes by Krylov's estimates. This result is useful for the development of $G$-stochastic analysis theory. Moreover, it also provides a tool for the study of the non-Markovian Itô processes.
In this paper we provide explicit representations of Laplace transforms of extinction time and total progeny of rough continuous-state branching processes introduced in [7]. Also, we show that their tail distributions are much fatter than those of Feller branching diffusions.
This paper studies the invertibility property of continuous time moving average processes driven by a Lévy process. We provide of sufficient conditions for the recovery of the driving noise. Our assumptions are specified via the kernel involved and the characteristic triplet of the background driving Lévy process.
We obtain a lower bound for the coarse Ricci curvature of continuous time pure jump Markov processes, with an emphasis on interacting particle systems. Applications to several models are provided, with a detailed study of the herd behavior of a simple model of interacting agents.
Scaling limits for continuous-time branching processes with discrete state space are provided as the initial state tends to infinity. Depending on the finiteness or non-finiteness of the mean and/or the variance of the offspring distribution, the limits are in general time-inhomogeneous Gaussian processes, time-inhomogeneous generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck type processes or continuous-state branching processes. We also provide transfer results showing how specific asymptotic relations for the probability generating function of the offspring distribution carry over to those of the one-dimensiona…
We investigate the Large Deviation behavior in small time of continuous Gaussian processes. We introduce a general procedure allowing to derive Large Deviation Principles in small time starting from the well understood context of Large Deviation Principles with a small parameter, going beyond the self-similar case. Several motivating examples are also treated.
Using the Lyapunov criteria arguments, we find sufficient conditions on explosion/nonexplosion for continuous-state branching processes with competition in Lévy random environment. In particular, we identify the necessary and sufficient conditions on explosion/nonexplosion when the competition function is a power function and the Lévy measure of the associated branching mechanism is stable.
We propose a class of non-Markov population models with continuous or discrete state space via a limiting procedure involving sequences of rescaled and randomly time-changed Galton--Watson processes. The class includes as specific cases the classical continuous-state branching processes and Markov branching processes. Several results such as the expressions of moments and the branching inequality governing the evolution of the process are presented and commented. The generalized Feller branching diffusion and the fractional Yule process are analyzed in detail as special cases of the general mo…
We observe the continuous-time Markov Branching Process without high-order moments and allowing Immigration. Limit properties of transition functions and their convergence to invariant measures are investigated. Main mathematical tool is regularly varying generating functions with remainder.
A continuous-state branching process in varying environments is constructed by the pathwise unique solution to a stochastic integral equation driven by time-space noises. The process arises naturally in the limit theorem of Galton--Watson processes in varying environments established by Bansaye and Simatos (2015). In terms of the stochastic equation we clarify the behavior of the continuous-state process at its bottlenecks, which are the times when it arrives at zero almost surely by negative jumps.
Continuous-state branching processes (CSBPs) with immigration (CBIs), stopped on hitting zero, are generalized by allowing the process governing immigration to be any Lévy process without negative jumps. Unlike the CBIs, these newly introduced processes do not appear to satisfy any natural affine property on the level of the Laplace transforms of the semigroups. Basic properties are noted. Explicit formulae (on neighborhoods of infinity) for the Laplace transforms of the first passage times downwards and of the explosion time are derived.
We first derive the recurisions for integer moments of two-type continuous-state branching processes in Lévy random environments. Result shows that the $n$th moment of the process is a polynomial of the initial value of the process with at most $n$ degree. Under some natural condition, the criteria for the existence of $f$-moment of the process are also proved.
By using the coupling technique, we present sufficient conditions for the exponential ergodicity of general continuous-state nonlinear branching processes in both the $L^1$-Wasserstein distance and the total variation norm, where the drift term is dissipative only for large distance, and either diffusion noise or jump noise is allowed to be vanished. Sufficient conditions for the corresponding strong ergodicity are also established.
Under natural conditions, we proved the exponential ergodicity in Wasserstein distance of two-type continuous-state branching processes in Lévy random environments with immigration. Furthermore, we expressed accurately the parameters of the exponent. The coupling method and the conditioned branching property play an important role in the approach. Using the tool of superprocesses, the ergodicity in total variance distance is also proved.
This paper aims to establish a central limit theorem for Markov processes conditioned not to be absorbed under a very general assumption on quasi-stationarity for the underlying process. To do so, a central limit theorem has been established for ergodic Markov processes. The conditional central limit theorem is then obtained by applying the central limit theorem to the $Q$-process.
We show that a large class of stationary continuous-time regenerative processes are finitarily isomorphic to one another. The key is showing that any stationary renewal point process whose jump distribution is absolutely continuous with exponential tails is finitarily isomorphic to a Poisson point process. We further give simple necessary and sufficient conditions for a renewal point process to be finitarily isomorphic to a Poisson point process. This improves results and answers several questions of Soo and of Kosloff and Soo.
In this work, we investigate the optimal control problem for continuous-time Markov decision processes with the random impact of the environment. We provide conditions to show the existence of optimal controls under finite-horizon criteria. Under appropriate conditions, the value function is continuous and satisfies the dynamic programming principle. These results are established by introducing some restriction on the regularity of the optimal controls and by developing a new compactification method for continuous-time Markov decision processes, which is originally used to solve the optimal co…
