We study the cohomology with trivial coefficients of Lie algebras L_k of the polynomial vector fields on the line with zero $k$-jet, (k>=1), and the cohomology of the similar subalgebras {L}_k of the polynomial loops algebra $\widetilde{sl}_2$. In both cases we construct the special bases (filtering bases) in the external complexes of these algebras. A spectral sequence based on this construction allows to completely find the cohomology of L_k and {L}_k. We also apply the filtering bases to find the spectral resolution of the Laplace operators for algebras L_1 and L_0, and obtain explicit formulas for the representing cycles of homologies for algebras L_k and {L}_k by means of the Schur polynomials.
Let $\mathbb{F}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>3$, and $\ggg$ the $p$-dimensional Witt algebra over $\mathbb{F}$. Let $\N$ be the nilpotent cone of $\ggg$. Explicit description of $\N$ is given, so that the conjugacy classes of Borel subalgebras of $\ggg$ under the automorphism group are determined. In contrast with only one conjugacy class of Borel subalgebras in a classical simple Lie algebra, there are two conjugacy classes of Borel subalgebras in $\ggg$. The representatives of conjugacy classes of Borel subalgebras, i.e., the so-called standard Borel subalgebras, ar…
We investigate the structure of the ring ${\mathbb D}_G(X)$ of $G$-invariant differential operators on a reductive spherical homogeneous space $X=G/H$ with an overgroup $\widetilde{G}$. We consider three natural subalgebras of ${\mathbb D}_G(X)$ which are polynomial algebras with explicit generators, namely the subalgebra ${\mathbb D}_{\widetilde{G}}(X)$ of $\widetilde{G}$-invariant differential operators on $X$ and two other subalgebras coming from the centers of the enveloping algebras of $\mathfrak g$ and $\mathfrak k$, where $K$ is a maximal proper subgroup of $G$ containing $H$. We show t…
Let $d\ge1$ be an integer, $W_d$ and $\mathcal{K}_d$ be the Witt algebra and the weyl algebra over the Laurent polynomial algebra $A_d=\mathbb{C} [x_1^{\pm1}, x_2^{\pm1}, ..., x_d^{\pm1}]$, respectively. For any $\mathfrak{gl}_d$-module $M$ and any admissible module $P$ over the extended Witt algebra $\widetilde W_d$, we define a $W_d$-module structure on the tensor product $P\otimes M$. We prove in this paper that any simple $W_d$-module that is finitely generated over the cartan subalgebra is a quotient module of the $W_d$-module $P \otimes M$ for a finite dimensional simple $\mathfrak{gl}_d…
We establish the $Q \widetilde{Q}$-systems for the twisted quantum affine algebras that were conjectured in arXiv:1606.05301. We develop the representation theory of Borel subalgebra of twisted quantum affine algebras and we construct their prefundamental representations. We also propose a general conjecture on the relations between twisted and non-twisted types. We prove this conjecture for some particular classes of representations, including prefundamental representations.
In this paper we construct a class of new irreducible modules over untwisted affine Kac-Moody algebras $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$, generalizing and including both highest weight modules and Whittaker modules. These modules allow us to obtain a complete classification of irreducible $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$-modules on which the action of each root vector in $\widetilde{\mathfrak{n}}_+$ is locally finite, where $\widetilde{\mathfrak{n}}_+$ is the locally nilpotent subalgebra (or positive part) of $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$. The necessary and sufficient conditions for two such irreducible $\wid…
We introduce a new class of simple Lie algebras $W(n,m)$ that generalize the Witt algebra by using "exponential" functions, and also a subalgebra $W^*(n,m)$ thereof; and we show each derivation of $W^*(1,0)$ can be written as a sum of an inner derivation and a scalar derivation. The Lie algebra $W(n,m)$ is $Z$-graded and is infinite growth.
Let $\operatorname{Witt}$ be the Lie algebra generated by the set $\{L_i\,\vert\, i \in {\mathbb Z}\}$ and $\operatorname{Vir}$ its universal central extension. Let $\operatorname{Diff}(V)$ be the Lie algebra of differential operators on $V=\mathbb{C}[[z]]$, $\mathbb{C}((z))$ or $V=\mathbb{C}(z)$. We explicitly describe all Lie algebra homomorphisms from $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$, $\operatorname{Witt}$ and $\operatorname{Vir}$ to $\operatorname{Diff}(V)$ such that $L_0$ acts on $V$ as a first order differential operator.
Let $ W(n) $ be Jacobson-Witt algebra over algebraic closed field $ \mathbb{K} $ with positive characteristic $ p>2. $ It is difficult to classify all Borel subalgebras of $ W(n) $ or non-classical restricted simple Lie algebras. The present paper and \cite{S7} study two kinds of subalgebras which are easily to understand and highly related to Borel subalgebras. In \cite{S7}, the last author investigates a class of special Borel subalgebras of $W(n)$ which is called homogeneous Borel subalgebras. The present paper focuses on subalgebras of $ W(n) $ which are related to Borel subalgebras such t…
Any graded restricted simple Lie algebra of Cartan type contains a subalgebra isomorphic to the Witt algebra over a field of prime characteristic. As some analogue of study on branching rules for restricted non-classical Lie algebras, it is shown that each graded restricted simple Lie algebra of Cartan type can be decomposed into a direct sum of restricted baby Verma modules and simple modules as an adjoint module over the Witt algebra. In particular, the composition factors are precisely determined.
For the two Cartan type S subalgebras of the Witt algebra $\W_n$, called Lie algebras of divergence-zero vector fields, we determine all module structures on the universal enveloping algebra of their Cartan subalgebra $\h_n$. We also give all submodules of these modules.
In this paper, we explore a canonical connection between the algebra of $q$-difference operators $\widetilde{V}_{q}$, affine Lie algebra and affine vertex algebras associated to certain subalgebra $\mathcal{A}$ of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{gl}_{\infty}$. We also introduce and study a category $\mathcal{O}$ of $\widetilde{V}_{q}$-modules. More precisely, we obtain a realization of $\widetilde{V}_{q}$ as a covariant algebra of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathcal{A}^{*}}$, where $\mathcal{A}^{*}$ is a 1-dimensional central extension of $\mathcal{A}$. We prove that restricted $\widetilde{V_…
The Virasoro Lie algebra is a one-dimensional central extension of the Witt algebra, which can be realized as the Lie algebra of derivations on the algebra $\cc [t^{\pm}]$ of Laurent polynomials. Using this fact, we define a natural family of subalgebras of the Virasoro algebra, which we call polynomial subalgebras. We describe the one-dimensional modules for polynomial subalgebras, and we use this description to study the corresponding induced modules for the Virasoro algebra. We show that these induced modules are frequently simple and generalize a family of recently discovered simple module…
In this paper we initiate the study of the maximal subalgebras of exceptional simple classical Lie algebras \g over algebraically closed fields k of positive characteristic p, such that the prime characteristic is good for \g. In this paper we deal with what is surely the most unnatural case; that is, where the maximal subalgebra in question is a simple subalgebra of non-classical type. We show that only the first Witt algebra can occur as a subalgebra of \g and give explicit details on when it may be maximal in \g.
Let $G$ be an exceptional simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $k$ and suppose that the characteristic $p$ of $k$ is a good prime for $G$. In this paper we classify the maximal Lie subalgebras $\mathfrak{m}$ of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}={\rm Lie}(G)$. Specifically, we show that one of the following holds: $\mathfrak{m}={\rm Lie}(M)$ for some maximal connected subgroup $M$ of $G$, or $\mathfrak{m}$ is a maximal Witt subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$, or $\mathfrak{m}$ is a maximal $\it{\mbox{exotic semidirect product}}$. The conjugacy classes of maximal connected subgroups o…
In this paper, as the first step towards classification of simple weight modules with finite dimensional weight spaces over Witt algebras $W_n$, we explicitly describe supports of such modules. We also obtain some descriptions on the support of an arbitrary simple weight module over a $\Z^n$-graded Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ having a root space decomposition $\oplus_{α\in\Z^n}\mathfrak {g}_α$ with respect to the abelian subalgebra $\mathfrak {g}_0$, with the property $[\mathfrak{g}_α,\mathfrak {g}_β]= \mathfrak {g}_{α+β}$ for all $α,β\in\Z^n$, $α\neq β$ (this class contains the algebra $W_n$).
In this thesis we consider the maximal subalgebras of the exceptional Lie algebras in algebraically closed fields of positive characteristic. This begins with a quick recap of the article by Herpel and Stewart which considered the Cartan type maximal subalgebras in the exceptional Lie algebras for good characteristic, and then the article by Premet considering non-semisimple maximal subalgebras in good characteristic. For $p=5$ we give an example of what appears to be a new maximal subalgebra in the exceptional Lie algebra of type $E_8$. We show that this maximal subalgebra is isomorphic to th…
Let $A=\mathbb{C}[t_1^{\pm1},t_2^{\pm1}]$ be the algebra of Laurent polynomials in two variables and $B$ be the set of skew derivations of $A$. Let $L$ be the universal central extension of the derived Lie subalgebra of the Lie algebra $A\rtimes B$. Set $\widetilde{L}=L\oplus\mathbb{C} d_1\oplus\mathbb{C} d_2$, where $d_1$, $d_2$ are two degree derivations. A Harish-Chandra module is defined as an irreducible weight module with finite dimensional weight spaces. In this paper, we prove that a Harish-Chandra module of the Lie algebra $\widetilde{L}$ is a uniformly bounded module or a generalized…
Recently, motivated by supersymmetric gauge theory, Cachazo, Douglas, Seiberg, and Witten proposed a conjecture about finite dimensional simple Lie algebras, and checked it in the classical cases. Later V. Kac and the author proposed a uniform approach to this conjecture, based on the theory of abelian ideals in the Borel subalgebra; this allowed them to check the conjecture for type G_2. In this note we further develop this approach, and propose three natural conjectures which imply the three parts of the CDSW conjecture. In a sense, these conjectures explain why the CDSW conjecture should be…
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be the $p$-dimensional Witt algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>3$. Let $\mathscr{N}={x\in\ggg\mid x^{[p]}=0}$ be the nilpotent variety of $\mathfrak{g}$, and $\mathscr{C}(\mathscr{N}):=\{(x,y)\in \mathscr{N}\times\mathscr{N}\mid [x,y]=0\}$ the nilpotent commuting variety of $\mathfrak{g}$. As an analogue of Premet's result in the case of classical Lie algebras [A. Premet, Nilpotent commuting varieties of reductive Lie algebras. Invent. Math., 154, 653-683, 2003.], we show that the variety $\mathscr{C}(\mathscr{N})$ is reducible and equidimens…
Birational equivalence of the Zassenhaus varieties for basic classical Lie superalgebras and their purely-even reductive Lie subalgebras in odd characteristic
Let $(\mathfrak{g},[p])$ be a finite-dimensional restricted Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic $p>0$, and $G$ be the adjoint group of $\mathfrak{g}$. We say that $\mathfrak{g}$ satisfying the {\sl generic property} if $\mathfrak{g}$ admits generic tori introduced in \cite{BFS}. A Borel subalgebra (or Borel for short) of $\mathfrak{g}$ is by definition a maximal solvable subalgebra containing a maximal torus of $\mathfrak{g}$, which is further called generic if additionally containing a generic torus. In this paper, we first settle a conjecture propose…
Braverman and Gaitsgory gave necessary and sufficient conditions for a nonhomogeneous quadratic algebra to satisfy the Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt property when its homogeneous version is Koszul. We widen their viewpoint and consider a quotient of an algebra that is free over some (not necessarily semisimple) subalgebra. We show that their theorem holds under a weaker hypothesis: We require the homogeneous version of the nonhomogeneous quadratic algebra to be the skew group algebra (semidirect product algebra) of a finite group acting on a Koszul algebra, obtaining conditions for the Poincare-Birkh…
A real Lie algebra with a compatible Hilbert space structure (in the sense that the scalar product is invariant) is called a Hilbert-Lie algebra. Such Lie algebras are natural infinite-dimensional analogues of the compact Lie algebras; in particular, any infinite-dimensional simple Hilbert-Lie algebra $\mathfrak{k}$ is of one of the four classical types $A_J$, $B_J$, $C_J$ or $D_J$ for some infinite set $J$. Imitating the construction of affine Kac-Moody algebras, one can then consider affinisations of $\mathfrak{k}$, that is, double extensions of (twisted) loop algebras over $\mathfrak{k}$. S…
In this paper, by using the "twisting technique" we obtain a class of new modules $A_b$ over the Witt algebras $\mathcal{W}_n$ from modules $A$ over the Weyl algebras $\mathcal{K}_n$ (of Laurent polynomials) for any $b\in\mathbb{C}$. We give the necessary and sufficient conditions for $A_b$ to be irreducible, and determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for two such irreducible $\mathcal{W}_n$-modules to be isomorphic. Since $\sl_{n+1}(\mathbb{C})$ is a subalgebra of $\mathcal{W}_n$, all the above irreducible $\mathcal{W}_n$-modules $A_b$ can be considered as $\sl_{n+1}(\mathbb{C})$-m…
For any positive integer $n$, let $A_n=\mathbb{C}[t_1,\dots,t_n]$, $W_n=\text{Der}(A_n)$ and $Δ_n=\text{Span}\{\frac{\partial}{\partial{t_1}},\dots,\frac{\partial}{\partial{t_n}}\}$. Then $(W_n, Δ_n)$ is a Whittaker pair. A $W_n$-module $M$ on which $Δ_n$ operates locally finite is called a Whittaker module. We show that each block $Ω_{\mathbf{a}}^{\widetilde{W}}$ of the category of $(A_n,W_n)$-Whittaker modules with finite dimensional Whittaker vector spaces is equivalent to the category of finite dimensional modules over $L_n$, where $L_n$ is the Lie subalgebra of $W_n$ consisting of vector …
We study the Yangians Y(a) associated with the simple Lie algebras a of type B, C or D. The algebra Y(a) can be regarded as a quotient of the extended Yangian X(a) whose defining relations are written in an R-matrix form. In this paper we are concerned with the algebraic structure and representations of the algebra X(a). We prove an analog of the Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem for X(a) and show that the Yangian Y(a) can be realized as a subalgebra of X(a). Furthermore, we give an independent proof of the classification theorem for the finite-dimensional irreducible representations of X(a) whic…
The goal of this paper is to study the representation theory of a classical infinite-dimensional Lie algebra - the Lie algebra of vector fields on an N-dimensional torus for N > 1. The case N=1 gives a famous Virasoro algebra (or its centerless version - the Witt algebra). The algebra of vector fields has an important class of tensor modules parametrized by finite-dimensional modules of gl(N). Tensor modules can be used in turn to construct bounded irreducible modules for the vector fields on N+1-dimensional torus, which are the central objects of our study. We solve two problems regarding the…
We construct a family of PBWD (Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt-Drinfeld) bases for the quantum loop algebras $U_v(L\mathfrak{sl}_n), U_{v_1,v_2}(L\mathfrak{sl}_n), U_v(L\mathfrak{sl}(m|n))$ in the new Drinfeld realizations. In the 2-parameter case, this proves Theorem 3.11 of [Hu-Rosso-Zhang] (stated in loc. cit. without a proof), while in the super case it proves a conjecture of [Zhang]. The main ingredient in our proofs is the interplay between those quantum loop algebras and the corresponding shuffle algebras, which are trigonometric counterparts of the elliptic shuffle algebras of Feigin-Odesskii. …
