This is the first part of a series of four articles. In this work, we are interested in weighted norm estimates. We put the emphasis on two results of different nature: one is based on a good-$λ$ inequality with two-parameters and the other uses Calderón-Zygmund decomposition. These results apply well to singular 'non-integral' operators and their commutators with bounded mean oscillation functions. Singular means that they are of order 0, 'non-integral' that they do not have an integral representation by a kernel with size estimates, even rough, so that they may not be bounded on all $L^p$ spaces for $1 < p < \infty$. Pointwise estimates are then replaced by appropriate localized $L^p-L^q$ estimates. We obtain weighted $L^p$ estimates for a range of $p$ that is different from $(1,\infty)$ and isolate the right class of weights. In particular, we prove an extrapolation theorem ' à la Rubio de Francia' for such a class and thus vector-valued estimates.
Several new trace norm inequalities are established for 2n x 2n block matrices, in the special case where the four n x n blocks are diagonal. Some of the inequalities are non-commutative analogs of Hanner's inequality, others describe the behavior of the trace norm under re-ordering of diagonal entries of the blocks.
In the paper, by using Lupaş integral inequality, the authors find some new inequalities for the complete elliptic integrals of the first and second kinds. These results improve some known inequalities.
In the paper, the author derives several "diagonal" recurrence relations, constructs some inequalities, finds monotonicity, and poses a conjecture related to Stirling numbers of the second kind.
This is the second part of a series of four articles on weighted norm inequalities, off-diagonal estimates and elliptic operators. We consider a substitute to the notion of pointwise bounds for kernels of operators which usually is a measure of decay. This substitute is that of off-diagonal estimates expressed in terms of local and scale invariant $L^p-L^q$ estimates. We propose a definition in spaces of homogeneous type that is stable under composition. It is particularly well suited to semigroups. We study the case of semigroups generated by elliptic operators.
This is the third part of a series of four articles on weighted norm inequalities, off-diagonal estimates and elliptic operators. For $L$ in some class of elliptic operators, we study weighted norm $L^p$ inequalities for singular 'non-integral' operators arising from $L$ ; those are the operators $ϕ(L)$ for bounded holomorphic functions $ϕ$, the Riesz transforms $\nabla L^{-1/2}$ (or $(-Δ)^{1/2}L^{-1/2}$) and its inverse $L^{1/2}(-Δ)^{-1/2}$, some quadratic functionals $g\_{L}$ and $G\_{L}$ of Littlewood-Paley-Stein type and also some vector-valued inequalities such as the ones involved for ma…
We prove weighted norm inequalities for fractional powers of elliptic operators together with their commutators with BMO functions, encompassing what is known for the classical Riesz potentials and elliptic operators with Gaussian domination by the classical heat operator. The method relies upon a good-$λ$ method that does not use any size or smoothness estimates for the kernels.
We prove Poincaré and Sobolev inequalities in matrix A${}_p$ weighted spaces. We then use these Poincaré inequalities to prove existence and regularity results for degenerate systems of elliptic equations whose degeneracy is governed by a matrix A${}_p$ weight. Such results parallel earlier results by Fabes, Kenig, and Serapioni for a single degenerate equation governed by a scalar A${}_p$ weight. In addition, we prove Cacciopoli and reverse Hölder inequalities for weak solutions of the degenerate systems. As a means to prove the Poincaré inequalities we prove that the Riesz potential and frac…
We study first order differential operators with constant coefficients. The main question is under what conditions a generalized Poincaré inequality holds. We show that the constant rank condition is sufficient. The concept of the Moore-Penrose generalized inverse of a matrix comes into play.
This paper is devoted to the study of $L_p$ Lyapunov-type inequalities for linear systems of equations with Neumann boundary conditions and for any constant $p \geq 1$. We consider ordinary and elliptic problems. The results obtained in the linear case are combined with Schauder fixed point theorem to provide new results about the existence and uniqueness of solutions for resonant nonlinear problems. The proof uses in a fundamental way the nontrivial relation between the best Lyapunov constants and the minimum value of some especial minimization problems.
This paper deals with generalized elliptic integrals and generalized modular functions. Several new inequalities are given for these and related functions.
We give an overview of the generalized Calderón-Zygmund theory for "non-integral" singular operators, that is, operators without kernels bounds but appropriate off-diagonal estimates. This theory is powerful enough to obtain weighted estimates for such operators and their commutators with $\BMO$ functions. $L^p-L^q$ off-diagonal estimates when $p\le q$ play an important role and we present them. They are particularly well suited to the semigroups generated by second order elliptic operators and the range of exponents $(p,q)$ rules the $L^p$ theory for many operators constructed from the semigr…
This is the first part of a series of three articles. In this paper, we obtain weighted norm inequalities for different conical square functions associated with the Heat and the Poisson semigroups generated by a second order divergence form elliptic operator with bounded complex coefficients. We find classes of Muckenhoupt weights where the square functions are comparable and/or bounded. These classes are natural from the point of view of the ranges where the unweighted estimates hold. In doing that, we obtain sharp weighted change of angle formulas which allow us to compare conical square fun…
In this article, we prove that for a broad class of second order elliptic PDEs, including the Laplacian, the zero sets of solutions to the Dirichlet problem are smooth for "generic" $L^2$ data. When the zero set of a solution (e.g. a harmonic function) contains a singularity, this means that we can find an arbitrarily small perturbation of the boundary data so that the zero set of the perturbed solution is smooth throughout a prescribed neighborhood of the former singularity. Furthermore, we can take the perturbation to be "mean zero" for which there are additional technical difficulties to en…
Given $α>0$, we establish the following two supercritical Moser-Trudinger inequalities \[ \sup\limits_{u \in W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B): \int_B |\nabla u|^n dx \leq 1} \int_B \exp\big( (α_n + |x|^α) |u|^{\frac{n}{n-1}} \big) dx < +\infty \] and \[ \sup\limits_{u\in W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B): \int_B |\nabla u|^n dx \leq 1} \int_B \exp\big( α_n |u|^{\frac{n}{n-1} + |x|^α} \big) dx < +\infty, \] where $W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B)$ is the usual Sobolev spaces of radially symmetric functions on $B$ in $\mathbb R^n$ with $n\geq 2$. Without restricting to the class of functions $W^{1,n}_{0,{\rm rad}}(B)$, …
In this paper we study properties of the triangular projection ${\mathcal P}_n$ on the space of $n\times n$ matrices. The projection ${\mathcal P}_n$ annihilates the entries of an $n\times n$ matrix below the main diagonal and leaves the remaining entries unchanged. We estimate the $p$-norms of ${\mathcal P}_n$ as an operator on the Schatten--von Neumann class $\boldsymbol{S}_p$ for $0<p<1$. The main result of the paper shows that for $p\in(0,1)$, the $p$-norms of ${\mathcal P}_n$ on $\boldsymbol{S}_p$ behave as $n\to\infty$ as $n^{1/p-1}$. This solves a problem posed by B.S. Kashin. Among oth…
Let $(M,g)$ be a closed Riemannian manifold. The aim of this work is to prove the Lebeau-Robbiano spectral inequality for a positive elliptic pseudo-differential operator $E(x,D)$ on $M,$ of order $ν>0,$ in the Hörmander class $Ψ^ν_{ρ,δ}(M).$ In control theory this has been an open problem prior to this work. As an application of this fundamental result, we establish the null-controllability of the (fractional) heat equation associated with $E(x,D).$ The sensor $ω\subset M$ in the observability inequality is an open subset of $M.$ The obtained results (that are, the corresponding spectral ineq…
