Although Ornstein's nonestimate entails the impossibility to control in general all the $L^1$-norm of derivatives of a function by the $L^1$-norm of a constant coefficient homogeneous vector differential operator, the corresponding endpoint Sobolev inequality has been known to hold in many cases: the gradient of scalar functions (Gagliardo and Nirenberg), the deformation operator (Korn-Sobolev inequality by M.J. Strauss), and the Hodge complex (Bourgain and Brezis). The class of differential operators for which estimates holds can be characterized by a cancelling condition. The proof of the estimates rely on a duality estimate for $L^1$-vector fields lying in the kernel of a cocancelling differential operator, combined with classical linear algebra and harmonic analysis techniques. This characterization unifies classes of known Sobolev inequalities and extends to fractional Sobolev and Hardy inequalities. A similar weaker condition introduced by Raiţă characterizes the operators for which there is an $L^\infty$-estimate on lower-order derivatives.
In this paper, it is shown that an analogue in mixed norm spaces of Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality is valid. As an application, some new criteria for energy conservation of Leray-Hopf weak solutions to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations are established in these spaces, which extend the corresponding known results.
In the cases where there is no Sobolev-type or Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type fractional estimate involving $\lvert u\rvert_{W^{s,p}}$, we establish alternative estimates where the strong $L^p$ norms are replaced by Lorentz norms.
In this paper we obtain weighted higher order Rellich, weighted Gagliardo-Nirenberg, Trudinger, Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities and the uncertainty principle for Dunkl operators. Moreover, we introduce an extension of the classical Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. Furthermore, we give an application of Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality to the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear damped wave equations for the Dunkl Laplacian.
We obtain new variants of weighted Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequalities in Orlicz spaces, as a consequence of weighted Hardy-type inequalities. The weights we consider need not be doubling.
We find a new sharp trace Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev inequality on convex cones, aswell as a weighted sharp trace Sobolev inequality on epigraphs of convex functions. This is done by using a generalized Borell-Brascamp-Lieb inequality, coming from the Brunn-Minkowski theory.
Using a dimension reduction argument and a stability version of the weighted Sobolev inequality on half space recently proved by Seuffert, we establish, in this paper, some stability estimates (or quantitative estimates) for a family of the sharp Gagliardo--Nirenberg--Sobolev inequalities due to Del Pino and Dolbeault \cite{DelPino}.
Sufficient and necessary conditions for the generalized Gagliardo-Nirenberg (GN) inequality in Besov spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces are obtained. Applying the GN inequality, we show that the finite-time blowup solutions have concentration phenomena in critical Lebesgue space L^3. Moreover, we consider the minimizer for a class of variational problem by applying the fractional GN inequality.
The classical Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality was established in $\mathbb{R}^n$. An extension to a bounded domain was given by Gagliardo in 1959. In this note, we present a simple proof of this result and prove a new Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality in a bounded Lipschitz domain.
We study the standing waves for a fourth-order Schrödinger equation with mixed dispersion that minimize the associated energy when the $L^2-$norm (the \textit{mass}) } is kept fixed. We need some non-homogeneous Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type inequalities and we develop a method to prove such estimates that should be useful elsewhere. We prove optimal results on the existence of minimizers in the {\it mass-subcritical } and {\it mass-critical } cases. In the { \it mass supercritical} case we show that global minimizers do not exist, and we investigate the existence of local minimizers. If the mass d…
We establish a Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type inequality in $\mathbb{R}^n$ for functions which decay fast as $|x|\to\infty$. We use this inequality to derive upper bounds for the decay rates of solutions of a degenerate parabolic equation. Moreover, we show that these upper bounds, hence also the Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type inequality, are sharp in an appropriate sense.
In this paper we study the existence of maximizers for two families of interpolation inequalities, namely a generalized Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality and a new inequality involving the Riesz energy. Two basic tools in our argument are a generalization of Lieb's Translation Lemma and a Riesz energy version of the Brézis--Lieb lemma.
Let (M,g) be a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n \geq 2. In this work we prove the validity of the optimal L^p-Riemannian Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality for 1 < p \leq 2. Our proof relies strongly on a new distance lemma which. In particular, we extend L^p-Euclidean Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities due to Del Pino and Dolbeault and the optimal L^2-Riemannian Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality due to Broutteland in a unified framework.
In this paper we establish the best constant of an anisotropic Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type inequality related to the Benjamin-Ono-Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. As an application of our results, we prove the uniform bound of solutions for such a equation in the energy space.
In this paper we prove the fractional Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality on homogeneous Lie groups. Also, we establish weighted fractional Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality and Lyapunov-type inequality for the Riesz potential on homogeneous Lie groups. The obtained Lyapunov inequality for the Riesz potential is new already in the classical setting of $\mathbb{R}^{N}$. As an application, we give two-sided estimate for the first eigenvalue of the Riesz potential. Also, we obtain Lyapunov inequality for the system of the fractional $p$-sub-Laplacian equations and give an application to estimate it…
We prove a Lieb-Thirring type inequality for potentials such that the associated Schrödinger operator has a pure discrete spectrum made of an unbounded sequence of eigenvalues. This inequality is equivalent to a generalized Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality for systems. As a special case, we prove a logarithmic Sobolev inequality for infinite systems of mixed states. Optimal constants are determined and free energy estimates in connection with mixed states representations are also investigated.
We prove the concavity of $p$-Rényi entropy power for positive solutions to the doubly nonlinear diffusion equations on $\mathbb{R}^n$ or compact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. As applications, we give new proofs of the sharp $L^p$-Sobolev inequality and $L^p$-Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities on $\mathbb{R}^n$. Moreover, two improvement of $L^p$-Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities are derived.
We establish the full range Gagliardo-Nirenberg and the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg interpolation inequalities associated with Sobolev-Coulomb spaces for the (fractional) derivative $0 \leq s \leq 1$. As a result, we rediscover known Gaglairdo-Nirenberg interpolation type inequalities associated with Sobolev-Coulomb spaces which were previously established in the scale of $H^{s}$ with $0 < s \leq 1$ and extend them for the full range $W^{s, p}$ with $0\leq s \leq 1$ and $1 < p < + \infty$. Using these newly established weighted inequalities, we derive a new family of one body Hardy-Lieb-Thirring…
This document comes as supplementary material of the paper Stability in Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities by the same authors. It is intended to state a number of classical or elementary statements concerning constants and inequalities for which we are not aware of existing published material or expressions detailed enough for our purpose. We claim no originality on the theoretical results and rely on standard methods in most cases, except that we keep track of the constants and provide constructive estimates.
This paper is devoted to improvements of functional inequalities based on scalings and written in terms of relative entropies. When scales are taken into account and second moments fixed accordingly, deficit functionals provide explicit stability measurements, i.e., bound with explicit constants distances to the manifold of optimal functions. Various results are obtained for the Gaussian logarithmic Sobolev inequality and its Euclidean counterpart, for the Gaussian generalized Poincar{é} inequalities and for the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities. As a consequence, faster convergence rates in di…
We improve the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality \[ \|φ\|_{L^q(\mathbb{R}^n)} \le C \|\nablaφ\|_{L^r(\mathbb{R}^n)} \mathcal{L}^{-(\frac 1q - \frac{n-r}{rn})} (\|\nablaφ\|_{L^r(\mathbb{R}^n)}), \] $r=2$, $0<q<\frac{rn}{(n-r)_+}$, $\mathcal{L}$ generalizing $\mathcal{L}(s)=\ln^{-1}\frac 2s$ for $0<s<1$, from [M. Fila and M. Winkler: A Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type inequality and its applications to decay estimates for solutions of a degenerate parabolic equation, Adv. Math., 357 (2019), https://doi.org/10.1016/j.aim.2019.106823] for rapidly decaying functions ($φ\in W^{1,r}(\mathbb{R}^n)\setminus\{0\}$…
In this paper, we derive some new Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequalities in Lorentz type spaces without restrictions on the second index of Lorentz norms, which generalize almost all known corresponding results. Our proof mainly relies on the Bernstein inequalities in Lorentz spaces, the embedding relation among various Lorentz type spaces, and Littlewood-Paley decomposition techniques. In addition, we establish several novel criteria in terms of the velocity or the gradient of the velocity in Lorentz spaces for energy conservation of the 3D Navier-Stokes equations. Particularly, we improve the…
We prove interpolation estimates between Morrey-Campanato spaces and Sobolev spaces. These estimates give in particular concentration-compactness inequalities in the translation-invariant and in the translation- and dilation-invariant case. They also give in particular interpolation estimates between Sobolev spaces and functions of bounded mean oscillation. The proofs rely on Sobolev integral representation formulae and maximal function theory. Fractional Sobolev spaces are also covered.
A special type of Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev (GNS) inequalities in $\mathbb{R}^d$ has played a key role in several proofs of Lieb-Thirring inequalities. Recently, a need for GNS inequalities in convex domains of $\mathbb{R}^d$, in particular for cubes, has arised. The purpose of this manuscript is two-fold. First we prove a GNS inequality for convex domains, with explicit constants which depend on the geometry of the domain. Later, using the discrete version of Rumin's method, we prove GNS inequalities on cubes with improved constants.
With a view towards Riemannian or sub-Riemannian manifolds, RCD metric spaces and specially fractals, this paper makes a step further in the development of a theory of heat semigroup based $(1,p)$ Sobolev spaces in the general framework of Dirichlet spaces. Under suitable assumptions that are verified in a variety of settings, the tools developed by D. Bakry, T. Coulhon, M. Ledoux and L. Saloff-Coste in the paper "Sobolev inequalities in disguise" allow us to obtain the whole family of Gagliardo-Nirenberg and Trudinger-Moser inequalities with optimal exponents. The latter depend not only on th…

Let $X$ be a ball Banach function space on ${\mathbb R}^n$. In this article, under some mild assumptions about both $X$ and the boundedness of the Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator on the associate space of the convexification of $X$, the authors prove that, for any locally integrable function $f$ with $\|\,|\nabla f|\,\|_{X}<\infty$, $$\sup_{λ\in(0,\infty)}λ\left \|\left|\left\{y\in{\mathbb R}^n:\ |f(\cdot)-f(y)| >λ|\cdot-y|^{\frac{n}{q}+1}\right\}\right|^{\frac{1}{q}} \right\|_X\sim \|\,|\nabla f|\,\|_X$$ with the positive equivalence constants independent of $f$, where the index $q\in(0,\i…
Let (M,g) be a smooth compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n \geq 2, 1 < p < n and 1 \leq q < r < p^\ast = \frac{np}{n-p} be real parameters. This paper concerns to the validity of the optimal Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality (\int_M |u|^r\; dv_g)^{\fracτ{r θ}} \leq (A_{opt} (\int_M |\nabla_g u|^p\; dv_g)^{\fracτ{p}} + B_{opt} (\int_M |u|^p\; dv_g)^{\fracτ{p}}) (int_M |u|^q\; dv_g)^{\frac{τ(1 - θ)}{θq}} \; . This kind of inequality is studied in Chen and Sun (Nonlinear Analysis 72 (2010), pp. 3159-3172) where the authors established its validity when 2 < p < r < p^\ast and (implicitly) τ= 2.…
We prove scaling invariant Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequalities of the form $$\|φ\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R}^d)}\le C\|φ\|_{\dot H^{s}(\mathbb{R}^d)}^β \left(\iint_{\mathbb{R}^d \times \mathbb{R}^d} \frac{|φ(x)|^q\,|φ(y)|^q}{|x - y|^{d-α}} dx dy\right)^γ,$$ involving fractional Sobolev norms with $s>0$ and Coulomb type energies with $0<α<d$ and $q\ge 1$. We establish optimal ranges of parameters for the validity of such inequalities and discuss the existence of the optimisers. In the special case $p=\frac{2d}{d-2s}$ our results include a new refinement of the fractional Sobolev inequality by a Coulomb…
In this paper the dependence of the best constants in Sobolev and Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities on the precise form of the Sobolev space norm is investigated. The analysis is carried out on general graded Lie groups, thus including the cases of $\mathbb R^n$, Heisenberg, and more general stratified Lie groups. The Sobolev norms may be defined in terms of Rockland operators, i.e. the hypoelliptic homogeneous left-invariant differential operators on the group. The best constants are expressed in the variational form as well as in terms of the ground state solutions of the corresponding nonlin…
We prove global, or space-time weighted, versions of the Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequality, with $L^p$ ($p < \infty$) endpoint, adapted to a hyperboloidal foliation. The corresponding versions with $L^\infty$ endpoint was first introduced by Klainerman and is the basis of the classical vector field method, which is now one of the standard techniques for studying long-time behavior of nonlinear evolution equations. We were motivated in our pursuit by settings where the vector field method is applied to an energy hierarchy with growing higher order energies. In these settings the use …
Let $({M},\textsf{d},\textsf{m})$ be a metric measure space which satisfies the Lott-Sturm-Villani curvature-dimension condition $\textsf{CD}(K,n)$ for some $K\geq 0$ and $n\geq 2$, and a lower $n-$density assumption at some point of $M$. We prove that if $({M},\textsf{d},\textsf{m})$ supports the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality or any of its limit cases ($L^p-$logarithmic Sobolev inequality or Faber-Krahn-type inequality), then a global non-collapsing $n-$dimensional volume growth holds, i.e., there exists a universal constant $C_0>0$ such that $\textsf{m}( B_x(ρ))\geq C_0 ρ^n$ for all $x\in {…
We obtain the inequality $$\int_Ω|\nabla u(x)|^ph(u(x))dx\leq C(n,p)\int_Ω \left( \sqrt{ |Δu(x)||{\cal T}_{h,C}(u(x))|}\right)^{p}h(u(x))dx,$$ where $Ω\subset \mathbf{R}^n$ is a bounded Lipschitz domain, $u\in W^{2,1}_{loc}(Ω)$ is postive and obeys some additional assumptions, $Δu$ is the Laplace operator, ${\cal T}_{h,C}(\cdot )$ is certain transformation of the continuous function $h(\cdot)$. We also explain how to apply such inequality to deduce regularity for solutions of nonlinear eigenvalue problems of elliptic type for degenerated PDEs, with the illustration within the model of electros…
In this paper we derive the best constant for the following Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequality \begin{eqnarray*} \|u\|_{L^{m+1}}\leq C_{q,m,p} \|u\|^{1-θ}_{L^{q+1}}\|\nabla u\|^θ_{L^p},\quad θ=\frac{pd(m-q)}{(m+1)[d(p-q-1)+p(q+1)]}, \end{eqnarray*} where parameters $q,m,p$ respectively belong to the following two ranges: (i) $p>d\geq 1$, $q\geq0$ and $m=\infty$. That shows $L^{\infty}$-type Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequality. (ii) $p>\max\{1,\frac{2d}{d+2}\}$, $0\leq q<σ-1$, and $q<m<σ$, where $σ$ is defined by $ σ:= \frac{(p-1)d+p }{d-p}$ if $p<d$; $σ:=\infty $ if $p\geq d…
We introduce a family of conformal invariants associated to a smooth metric measure space which generalize the relationship between the Yamabe constant and the best constant for the Sobolev inequality to the best constants for Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev inequalities $\|w\r|_q \leq C\|\nabla w\|_2^θ\|w\|_p^{1-θ}$. These invariants are constructed via a minimization procedure for the weighted scalar curvature functional in the conformal class of a smooth metric measure space. We then describe critical points which are also critical points for variations in the metric or the measure. When the me…
We consider the inequalities of Gagliardo-Nirenberg and Sobolev in R^d, formulated in terms of the Laplacian Delta and of the fractional powers D^n := (-Delta)^(n/2) with real n >= 0; we review known facts and present novel results in this area. After illustrating the equivalence between these two inequalities and the relations between the corresponding sharp constants and maximizers, we focus the attention on the L^2 case where, for all sufficiently regular f : R^d -> C, the norm || D^j f||_{L^r} is bounded in terms of || f ||_{L^2} and || D^n f ||_{L^2} for 1/r = 1/2 - (theta n - j)/d, and s…
We derive inequality [\int_{\r} |f^{'}(x)|^ph(f(x))dx \le (\sqrt{p-1})^p\int_{\r}(\sqrt{|f^{"}(x){\cal T}_h(f(x))|})^ph(f(x))dx,] where $f$ belongs locally to Sobolev space $W^{2,1}$ and $f^{'}$ has bounded support. Here $h(...)$ is a given function and ${\cal T}_h(...)$ is its given transform, it is independent of $p$. In case when $h\equiv 1$ we retrieve the well known inequality: (\int_{\r} |f^{'}(x)|^pdx \le (\sqrt{p-1})^p \int_{\r}(\sqrt{|f^{"}(x)f(x)|})^pdx.) Our inequalities have form similar to the classical second order Oppial inequalites. They also extend certain class of inequalitie…
This paper is devoted to one-dimensional interpolation Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev inequalities. We study how various notions of duality, transport and monotonicity of functionals along flows defined by some nonlinear diffusion equations apply. We start by reducing the inequality to a much simpler dual variational problem using mass transportation theory. Our second main result is devoted to the construction of a Lyapunov functional associated with a nonlinear diffusion equation, that provides an alternative proof of the inequality. The key observation is that the inequality on the line is equ…
Using elementary arguments based on the Fourier transform we prove that for $1 \leq q < p < \infty$ and $s \geq 0$ with $s > n(1/2-1/p)$, if $f \in L^{q,\infty}(\R^n) \cap \dot{H}^s(\R^n)$ then $f \in L^p(\R^n)$ and there exists a constant $c_{p,q,s}$ such that \[ \|f\|_{L^p} \leq c_{p,q,s} \|f\|_{L^{q,\infty}}^θ\|f\|_{\dot H^s}^{1-θ}, \] where $1/p = θ/q + (1-θ)(1/2-s/n)$. In particular, in $\R^2$ we obtain the generalised Ladyzhenskaya inequality $\|f\|_{L^4}\le c\|f\|_{L^{2,\infty}}^{1/2}\|f\|_{\dot H^1}^{1/2}$. We also show that for $s=n/2$ the norm in $\|f\|_{\dot H^{n/2}}$ can be replace…
