In math.RT/0205144 we observed that, on the level of derived categories, representations of the Lie algebra of a semisimple algebraic group over a field of finite characteristic with a given (generalized) regular central character can be identified with coherent sheaves on the formal neighborhood of the corresponding (generalized) Springer fiber. In the present paper we treat singular central characters.
The basic step is the Beilinson-Bernstein localization of modules with a fixed (generalized) central character as sheaves on the partial flag variety corresponding to the singularity of the character. These sheaves are modules over a sheaf of algebras which is a version of twisted crystalline differential operators, but is actually larger. We discuss translation functors and intertwining functors. The latter generate an action of the affine braid group on the derived category of modules with a regular (generalized) central character, which intertwines different localization functors.
We also describe the standard duality on Lie algebra modules in terms of D-modules and coherent sheaves.
Let $G$ be a reductive group and $U,U^-$ be the unipotent radicals of a pair of opposite parabolic subgroups $P,P^-$. We prove that the DG-categories of $U(\!(t)\!)$-equivariant and $U^-(\!(t)\!)$-equivariant D-modules on the affine Grassmannian $Gr_G$ are canonically dual to each other. We show that the unit object witnessing this duality is given by nearby cycles on the Drinfeld-Gaitsgory-Vinberg interpolation Grassmannian defined in arXiv:1805.07721. We study various properties of the mentioned nearby cycles, in particular compare them with the nearby cycles studied in arXiv:1411.4206 and a…
In this paper we continue to study the degrees of matrix coefficients of intertwining operators associated to reductive groups over $p$-adic local fields. Together with previous analysis of global normalizing factors we can control the analytic properties of global intertwining operators for a large class of reductive groups over number fields, in particular for inner forms of $GL(n)$ and $SL(n)$ and quasi-split classical groups. This has a direct application to the limit multiplicity problem for these groups.
In this paper, following a similar procedure developed by Buttcane and Miller in \cite{MillerButtcane} for $SL(3,\RR)$, the $(\frakg,K)$-module structure of the minimal principal series of real reductive Lie groups $SU(2,1)$ is described explicitly by realizing the representations in the space of $K$-finite functions on $U(2)$. Moreover, by combining combinatorial techniques and contour integrations, this paper introduces a method of calculating intertwining operators on the principal series. Upon restriction to each $K$-type, the matrix entries of intertwining operators are represented by $Γ$…
This is the second paper of a series of papers on a version of categories $\mathcal{O}$ for root-reductive Lie algebras. Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a root-reductive Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic $0$ with a splitting Borel subalgebra $\mathfrak{b}$ containing a splitting maximal toral subalgebra $\mathfrak{h}$. For some pairs of blocks $\overline{\mathcal{O}}[λ]$ and $\overline{\mathcal{O}}[μ]$, the subcategories whose objects have finite length are equivalence via functors obtained by the direct limits of translation functors. Tilting objects can also…
We adapt techniques used in the study of the cubic Dirac operator on homogeneous reductive spaces to the Dolbeault operator on elliptic coadjoint orbits to prove that cohomologically induced representations have an infinitesimal character, that cohomological induction and Zuckerman translation functor commute and give a geometric interpretation of the Zuchkerman translation functor in this context.
We prove that cuspidal automorphic D-modules have non-vanishing Whittaker coefficients, generalizing known results in the geometric Langlands program from GL_n to general reductive groups. The key tool is a microlocal interpretation of Whittaker coefficients. We establish various exactness properties in the geometric Langlands context that may be of independent interest. Specifically, we show Hecke functors are t-exact on the category of tempered D-modules, strengthening a classical result of Gaitsgory (with different hypotheses) for GL_n. We also show that Whittaker coefficient functors are t…
Let F be a global field, G an unramified quasi-split reductive group over F and chi an everywhere unramified automorphic character of a maximal maximally split torus of G. Using Langlands-Shahidi theory, we compute the meromorphic function defined by the action of a global standard intertwining operator associated to chi on a spherical vector and show that the ratio of its poles in the positive Weyl chamber is well behaved.
We prove that the Jacquet restriction functor for a parabolic subgroup of a reductive group over a non-Archimedean local field is right adjoint to the parabolic induction functor for the opposite parabolic subgroup, in the generality of smooth group representations on R-modules for any unital ring R in which the residue field characteristic is invertible. Correction: it turned out that the paper contains a mistake (in Lemma 3.4), which the authors have been unable to fix. This renders the proof of the main theorem incomplete.
In this paper we propose a construction of generic character sheaves on reductive groups over finite local rings at even levels, whose characteristic functions are higher Deligne--Lusztig characters when the parameters are generic. We formulate a conjecture on the simple perversity of these complexes, and we prove it in the level two case (thus generalised a result of Lusztig from the function field case). We then discuss the induction and restriction functors, as well as the Frobenius reciprocity, based on the perversity.
In this largely expository paper we extend properties of the homological duality functor $RHom_{\mathcal H}(-,{\mathcal H})$ where ${\mathcal H}$ is the Hecke algebra of a reductive $p$-adic group, to the case where it is the Hecke algebra of a finite central extension of a reductive $p$-adic group. The most important properties being that $RHom_{\mathcal H}(-,{\mathcal H})$ is concentrated in a single degree for irreducible representations and that it gives rise to Schneider--Stuhler duality for Ext groups (a Serre functor like property). Along the way we also study Grothendieck--Serre dualit…
Let G be a reductive algebraic group over a field of positive characteristic and denote by C(G) the category of rational G-modules. In this note we investigate the subcategory of C(G) consisting of those modules whose composition factors all have highest weights linked to the Steinberg weight. This subcategory is denoted ST and called the Steinberg component. We give an explicit equivalence between ST and C(G) and we derive some consequences. In particular, our result allows us to relate the Frobenius contracting functor to the projection functor from C(G) onto ST .
The category of character D-modules is realized as Drinfeld center of the abelian monoidal category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. Tensor product of Harish-Chandra bimodules is related to convolution of D-modules via the long intertwining functor (Radon transform) by a result of Beilinson and Ginzburg. Exactness property of the long intertwining functor on a cell subquotient of the Harish-Chandra bimodules category shows that the truncated convolution category can be realized as a subquotient of the category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. Together with the description of the truncated convolution …
We prove that the perfect loop functor $LX$ of a quasi-projective scheme $X$ over a local non-archimedean field $k$ satisfies arc-descent, strengthening a result of Drinfeld. Then we prove that for an unramified reductive group $G$, the map $LG \rightarrow L(G/B)$ is a $v$-surjection. This gives a mixed characteristic version (for $v$-topology) of an equal characteristic result (in étale topology) of Bouthier--Česnavičius. In the second part of the article, we use the above results to introduce a well-behaved notion of Deligne--Lusztig spaces $X_w(b)$ attached to unramified $p$-adic reductive …
The purpose of this paper is to introduce and study certain irreducible perverse l-adic sheaves on a reductive group G over a finite field (we call them gamma-sheaves). One can construct such a sheaf starting with (almost) every finite-dimensional representation of the Langlands dual group. We present conjecture connecting the above sheaves with generalized gamma-functions introduced in our previous paper. We also conjecture that the convolution functor with the above sheaves enjoys certain nice properties (in particular, we compute the convolution of a gamma-sheaf with a character sheaf). We …
We show that, for an arbitrary quasi-reductive Lie superalgebra with a triangular decomposition and a character $ζ$ of the nilpotent radical, the associated Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ sends Verma modules to standard Whittaker modules provided the latter exist. As a consequence, this gives a complete solution to the problem of determining the composition factors of the standard Whittaker modules in terms of composition factors of Verma modules in the category $\mathcal O$. In the case of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras, we show that the Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ and its target category, respect…
Let G be a connected complex reductive group and let K be a symmetric subgroup of G. We prove a formula for the Drinfeld-Gaitsgory functor for the dg-category of K-equivariant sheaves on the flag manifold of G in terms of the Matsuki duality functor. As byproducts, we obtain a description of the Serre functor and the Deligne-Lusztig duality for (g,K)-modules.
We discuss recent developments on branching problems of irreducible unitary representations $π$ of real reductive groups when restricted to reductive subgroups. Highlighting the case where the underlying $(g,K)$-modules of $π$ are isomorphic to Zuckerman's derived functor modules $A_q(λ)$, we show various and rich features of branching laws such as infinite multiplicities, irreducible restrictions, multiplicity-free restrictions, and discrete decomposable restrictions. We also formulate a number of conjectures.
We introduce the notion of Demazure descent data on a triangulated category C and define the descent category for such data. We illustrate the definition by our basic example. Let G be a reductive algebraic group with a Borel subgroup B. Demazure functors form Demazure descent data on the derived category of Rep(B) and the descent category is equivalent to the derived category of Rep(G).
We prove the exactness of the reduction map from étale $(ϕ,Γ)$-modules over completed localized group rings of compact open subgroups of unipotent $p$-adic algebraic groups to usual étale $(ϕ,Γ)$-modules over Fontaine's ring. This reduction map is a component of a functor from smooth $p$-power torsion representations of $p$-adic reductive groups (or more generally of Borel subgroups of these) to $(ϕ,Γ)$-modules. Therefore this gives evidence for this functor---which is intended as some kind of $p$-adic Langlands correspondence for reductive groups---to be exact. We also show that the correspon…
This article gives conceptual statements and proofs relating parabolic induction and Jacquet functors on split reductive groups over a non-Archimedean local field to the associated Iwahori-Hecke algebra as tensoring from and restricting to parabolic subalgebras. The main tool is Bernstein's presentation of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra.
Let $G$ be a $p$-adic Lie group with reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. Denote by $D(G)$ the locally analytic distribution algebra of $G$. Orlik-Strauch and Agrawal-Strauch have studied certain exact functors defined on various categories of $\mathfrak{g}$-representations with image in the category of locally analytic $G$-representations or $D(G)$-modules. In this paper we prove that for suitably defined categories of $D(G)$-modules, this functor gives rise to injective homomorphisms at the level of Grothendieck groups. We also explain how this functor interacts with translation functors at…
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a reductive Lie algebra. We give a condition that ensures that the character of a generalized Verma module is well-behaved under a twisting functor. We show that a similar result holds for basic classical simple Lie superalgebras, and generalize a result from \cite{CM} about twisting Verma modules.
An interpretation of the Casselman-Wallach (C-W) Theorem is that the $K$-finite functor is an isomorphism of categories from the category of finitely generated, admissible smooth Fréchet modules of moderate growth to the category of Harish-Chandra modules for a real reductive group, $G$ (here $K$ is a maximal compact subgroup of G).In this paper we study the dependence of this functor on parameters. Our main result implies that holomorphic dependence implies holomorphic dependence. The work uses results from the excellent thesis of van der Noort. Also a remarkable family of Universal Harish-Ch…
Let $G$ be a $p$-adic Lie group associated to a connected reductive group over $\mathbb{Q}_{p}$. Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup of $G$ and let $M$ be a Levi quotient of $P$. In this paper, we define a $δ$-functor $H^{\star}J_{P}$ from the category of admissible locally analytic $G$-representations to the category of essentially admissible locally analytic $M$-representations that extends the Jacquet-Emerton module functor $J_{P}$ defined by Emerton.
A holomorphic discrete series can be realized as the space of the holomorphic sections of a homogeneous vector bundle on a bounded symmetric domain. We can embed it into a degenerate principal series realized as the space of hyperfunction sections of a vector bundle on the Shilov boundary by taking the boundary value. We consider an algebraic version of higher cohomological analogue of such an embedding for complex reductive groups and classical groups of type A.
Let G be a reductive group and L a Levi subgroup. Parabolic induction and restriction are a pair of adjoint functors between Ad-equivariant derived categories of either constructible sheaves or (not necessarily holonomic) D-modules on G and L, respectively. Bezrukavnikov and Yom Din proved, generalizing a classic result of Lusztig, that these functors are exact. In this paper, we consider a special case where L=T is a maximal torus. We give explicit formulas for parabolic induction and restriction in terms of the Harish-Chandra D-module on G x T. We show that this module is flat over D(T), whi…
For a split reductive group $G$ over a finite extension $L$ of ${\mathbb Q}_p$, and a parabolic subgroup $P \subset G$ we examine functorial properties of the functors ${\mathcal F}^G_P$ introduced in \cite{OS2}. We discuss the aspects of faithfulness, projective and injective objects, Ext-groups and some kind of adjunction formulas.
Derived functors (or Zuckerman functors) play a very important role in the study of unitary representations of real reductive groups. These functors are usually applied on highest weight modules in the so-called good range and the theory is well-understood. On the other hand, there were several studies on the irreducibility and unitarizability, in which derived functors are applied to singular modules. See Enright et al. (Acta. Math. 1985), for example. In this article, we apply derived functors to certain modules arising from the formalism of local theta lifting, and investigate the irreducib…
We study category $\mathcal{O}$ for Takiff Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g} \otimes \mathbb{C}[ε]/(ε^2)$ where $\mathfrak{g}$ is the Lie algebra of a reductive algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$. We decompose this category as a direct sum of certain subcategories and use an analogue of parabolic induction functors and twisting functors for BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ to prove equivalences between these subcategories. We then use these equivalences to compute the composition multiplicities of the simple modules in the Verma modules in terms of composition multiplicities in the BGG category $\mathcal{O}…
We introduce an analogue of the composition of the Cherednik and Drinfeld functor for twisted Yangians. Our definition is based on the Howe duality, and originates from the centralizer construction of twisted Yangians due to Olshanski. Using our functor, we establish a correspondence between intertwining operators on the tensor products of certain modules over twisted Yangians, and the extremal cocycle on the hyperoctahedral group.
We introduce a skew analogue of the composition of the Cherednik and Drinfeld functors for twisted Yangians. Our definition is based on the skew Howe duality, and originates from the centralizer construction of twisted Yangians due to Olshanski. Using our functor, we establish a correspondence between intertwining operators on the tensor products of certain modules over twisted Yangians, and the extremal cocycle on the hyperoctahedral group.
For a reductive group G defined over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic, we show that the Frobenius contraction functor of G-modules is right adjoint to the Frobenius twist of the modules tensored with the Steinberg module twice. It follows that the Frobenius contraction functor preserves injectivity, good filtrations, but not semisiplicity.
Let G be a reductive group over a non-Archimedean local field. Then the canonical functor from the derived category of smooth tempered representations of G to the derived category of all smooth representations of G is fully faithful. Here we consider representations on bornological vector spaces. As a consequence, if V and W are two tempered irreducible representations and if V or W is square-integrable, then Ext_G^n(V,W) vanishes for all n>0. We use this to prove in full generality a formula for the formal dimension of square-integrable representations due to Schneider and Stuhler.
We define the notion of character sheaf on a possibly disconnected reductive group. We show that the restriction functor carries a character sheaf to a direct sum of character sheaves.
We study a composition of two functors. The first one, from the category of modules over the Lie algebra $\gl_m$ to the category of modules over the degenerate affine Hecke algebra of $GL_N$, was introduced by I. Cherednik. The second functor is a skew version of the functor from the latter category to the category of modules over the Yangian $\Y(\gl_n)$ due to V. Drinfeld. We give a representation theoretic explanation of a link between intertwining operators on tensor products of $\Y(\gl_n)$-modules, and the `extremal cocycle' on the Weyl group of $\gl_m$ introduced by D. Zhelobenko. We esta…
Let $G$ be a $p$-adic Lie group with reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. In analogy to the translation functors introduced by Bernstein and Gelfand on categories of $U(\mathfrak{g})$-modules we consider similarly defined functors on the category of coadmissible modules over the locally analytic distribution algebra $D(G)$ on which the center of $U(\mathfrak{g})$ acts locally finite. These functors induce equivalences between certain subcategories of the latter category. Furthermore, these translation functors are naturally related to those on category $\mathcal{O}$ via the functors from cate…
We prove exactness of parabolic restriction and induction functors for conjugation equivariant sheaves on a reductive group generalizing a well known result of Lusztig who established this property for character sheaves. We propose a conjectural (but known for character sheaves) t-exactness property of the Harish-Chandra transform and provide an evidence for that conjecture. We also present two applications generalizing some results of Gabber and Loeser on perverse sheaves on an algebraic torus to an arbitrary reductive group.
The classical parabolic induction functor is a fundamental tool on the representation theoretic side of the Langlands program. In this article, we study its derived version. It was shown by the second author that the derived category of smooth $G$-representations over $k$, $G$ a $p$-adic reductive group and $k$ a field of characteristic $p$, is equivalent to the derived category of a certain differential graded $k$-algebra $H_G^\bullet$, whose zeroth cohomology is a classical Hecke algebra. This equivalence predicts the existence of a derived parabolic induction functor on the dg Hecke algebra…
We introduce "continuous deformed preprojective algebras" attached to infinite affine Dynkin quivers of type A_{\infty}, A_{+\infty}, D_{\infty}. We define a one-parameter family of deformations of the wreath product of a symmetric group with these algebras and, using the generalized McKay correspondence for infinite reductive subgroups of SL(2,C), we establish a Morita equivalence to a corresponding continuous symplectic reflection algebra of wreath product type. We give applications of this Morita equivalence to the representation theory of continuous wreath product symplectic reflection alg…
We study the composition of the functor from the category of modules over the Lie algebra gl_m to the category of modules over the degenerate affine Hecke algebra of GL_N introduced by I. Cherednik, with the functor from the latter category to the category of modules over the Yangian Y(gl_n) due to V. Drinfeld. We propose a representation theoretic explanation of a link between the intertwining operators on the tensor products of Y(gl_n)-modules, and the `extremal cocycle' on the Weyl group of gl_m defined by D. Zhelobenko. We also establish a connection between the composition of two functors…
Let E be a (right) Hilbert C*-module over a C*-algebra A. If E is equipped with a left action of a second C*-algebra B, then tensor product with E gives rise to a functor from the category of Hilbert B-modules to the category of Hilbert A-modules. The purpose of this paper is to study adjunctions between functors of this sort. We shall introduce a new kind of adjunction relation, called a local adjunction, that is weaker than the standard concept from category theory. We shall give several examples, the most important of which is the functor of parabolic induction in the tempered representatio…
