Perhaps the most important problem in representation theory in the 1970s and early 1980s was the determination of the multiplicity of composition factors in a Verma module. This problem was settled by the proof of the Kazhdan-Lusztig Conjecture which states that the multiplicities may be computed via Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. In this paper, we introduce signed Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, a variation of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials which encodes signature information in addition to composition factor multiplicities and Jantzen filtration level. Careful consideration of Gabber and Joseph's proof of Kazhdan and Lusztig's inductive formula for computing Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials leads to an inductive formula for the signed Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. We use these polynomials to compute the signature of an invariant Hermitian form on an irreducible highest weight module. Such a formula has applications to unitarity testing.
This paper classifies irreducible, integrable highest weight modules for "current Kac-Moody Algebras" with finite dimensional weight spaces. We prove that these modules turn out to be modules of appropriate direct sums of finitely many copies of Kac-Moody Lie algebras.
We prove a character formula for the irreducible modules from the category $\mathcal{O}$ over the simple affine vertex algebra of type $A_n$ and $C_n$ $(n \geq 2)$ of level $k=-1$. We also give a conjectured character formula for types $D_4$, $E_6$, $E_7$, $E_8$ and levels $k=-1, \cdots, -b$, where $b=2,3,4,6$ respectively.
We study the crystal graphs of irreducible $U_{v}(\hat{sl}}_{e})$-modules of higher level l. Generalizing works of the first author, we obtain a simple description of the bijections between the classes of multipartitions which naturally label these graphs: the Uglov multipartitions. This is achieved by expliciting an embedding of the $U_{v}(\hat{sl}}_{e})$-crystals of level l into $U_{v}(\hat{sl}_{\infty})$-crystals associated to highest weight modules.
Characteristic cycles and leading term cycles of irreducible highest weight Harish-Chandra modules of regular integral infinitesimal character are determined. In the simply laced cases they are irreducible, but in the nonsimply laced cases they are more complicated.
The behavior of the images of a fixed element of order p in irreducible representations of a classical algebraic group in odd characteristic p with highest weights large enough with respect to p and this element is investigated. Lower estimates for the number of Jordan blocks of size p in images of such elements that lie in naturally embedded subgroups of the same type as the initial group and smaller ranks are obtained.
Let K be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0 and let Sp(2m) be the symplectic group of rank m over K. The main theorem of this article gives the character of the rational simple Sp(2m)-modules with fundamental highest weight as an explicit alternating sum of characters of Weyl modules. One obtains several formulae for the dimensions of these simple modules, what allows us to investigate the asymptotic behavior of these dimensions, for a given p, when the rank m is growing towards infinity. One also gets the simple Weyl modules with fundamental highest weight, and the article en…
For each integer $t>0$ and each complex simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we determine the least dimension of an irreducible highest weight representation of $\mathfrak{g}$ whose highest weight has height $t$. As a corollary, we classify all irreducible modules whose dimension equals a product of two primes.
We shall derive Kazhdan-Lusztig type character formula for the irreducible modules with arbitrary non-critical highest weights over affine Lie algebras from the rational case by using the translation functor, the Enright functor and Jantzen's deformation argument.
We prove that the weight multiplicities of the integrable irreducible highest weight module over the Kac-Moody algebra associated to a quiver are equal to the root multiplicities of the Kac-Moody algebra associated to some enlarged quiver. To do this, we use the Kac conjecture for indivisible roots and a relation between the Poincare polynomials of quiver varieties and the Kac polynomials, counting the number of absolutely irreducible representations of the quiver over finite fields. As a corollary of this relation, we get an explicit formula for the Poincare polynomials of quiver varieties, w…
In the representation theory of simple Lie algebras, we consider the problem of constructing a "canonical" weight basis in an arbitrary irreducible finite-dimensional highest weight module. Vinberg suggested a method for constructing such bases by applying the lowering operators corresponding to all positive roots to the highest weight vector. He proposed several conjectures on the parametrization and structure of such bases. It is already known that these conjectures are true for the cases $A_n$, $C_n$, $G_2$, $B_3$. In this paper, we prove these conjectures for the Lie algebra of type $D_4$.
A highest weight theory for a finite W-algebra U(g,e) was developed in [BGK]. This leads to a strategy for classifying the irreducible finite dimensional U(g,e)-modules. The highest weight theory depends on the choice of a parabolic subalgebra of g leading to different parameterizations of the finite dimensional irreducible U(g,e)-modules. We explain how to construct an isomorphism preserving bijection between the parameterizing sets for different choices of parabolic subalgebra when g is of type A, or when g is of types C or D and e is an even multiplicity nilpotent element
In this paper, we study irreducible weight modules with infinite dimensional weight spaces over the mirror-twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra $\mathcal{D}$. More precisely, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the tensor products of irreducible highest weight modules and irreducible modules of intermediates series over $\mathcal{D}$ to be irreducible are determined by using "shifting technique". This leads to a family of new irreducible weight modules over $\mathcal{D}$. Then we obtain that any two such tensor products are isomorphic if and only if the corresponding highest weight modu…
A. Dzhumadil'daev classified all irreducible finite dimensional representations of the simple n-Lie algebra. Using a slightly different approach, we obtain in this paper a complete classification of all irreducible, highest weight modules, including the infinite-dimensional ones. As a corollary we find all primitive ideals of the universal enveloping algebra of this simple n-Lie algebra.
Two classes of irreducible highest weight modules of the general linear Lie superalgebra $gl(1/\infty)$ are constructed. Within each module a basis is introduced and the transformation relations of the basis under the action of the algebra generators are written down.
In this paper we construct a class of new irreducible modules over untwisted affine Kac-Moody algebras $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$, generalizing and including both highest weight modules and Whittaker modules. These modules allow us to obtain a complete classification of irreducible $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$-modules on which the action of each root vector in $\widetilde{\mathfrak{n}}_+$ is locally finite, where $\widetilde{\mathfrak{n}}_+$ is the locally nilpotent subalgebra (or positive part) of $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$. The necessary and sufficient conditions for two such irreducible $\wid…
Tensor product of highest weight modules and intermediate modules for Virasoro algebra have been studied around 1997. Since then the irreducibility problem for tensor product of modules is open. We consider the loop-Virasoro algebra $Vir \otimes B$, where $Vir$ is the Virasoro algebra and $B$ a commutative associative unital algebra over $\mathbb C$. In this paper we study the irreducibility problem for the tensor product of highest weight modules and intermediate modules for $Vir\otimes B$. Finally we find out a necessary and sufficient conditions for such modules to be isomorphic.
Let $G$ be an irreducible Hermitian Lie group and $D=G/K$ its bounded symmetric domain in $\mathbb C^d$ of rank $r$. Each $γ$ of the Harish-Chandra strongly orthogonal roots $\{γ_1, \cdots, γ_r\}$ defines a Heisenberg parabolic subgroup $P=MAN$ of $G$. We study the principal series representations $\Ind_P^G(1\otimes e^ν\otimes 1)$ of $G$ induced from $P$. We find the complementary series, reduction points, and unitary subrepresentations in this family of representations.
The loop-Virasoro algebra is the Lie algebra of the tensor product of the Virasoro algebra and the Laurent polynomial algebra. This paper classifies irreducible Harish-Chandra modules over the loop-Virasoro algebra, which turn out to be highest weight modules, lowest weight modules and evaluation modules of the intermediate series (all wight spaces are 1-dimensional). As a by-product, we obtain a classification of irreducible Harish-Chandra modules over truncated Virasoro algebras. We also determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for highest weigh irreducible modules over the loop-Vir…
We construct irreducible representations of affine Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras of arbitrary finite type. The irreducible representations arise as simple heads of appropriate induced modules, and thus our construction is similar to that of Bernstein and Zelevinsky for affine Hecke algebras of type A. The highest weights of irreducible modules are given by the so-called good words, and the highest weights of the 'cuspidal modules' are given by the good Lyndon words. In a sense, this has been predicted by Leclerc.
We classify the irreducible integrable modules for the twisted toroidal extended affine Lie algebras with fnite diemnsional weight spaces where the fnite dimensional center acts trivially. We have proved that the entire central extension part acts trivially on the modules and our modules turn out to be highest weight modules.
It is known that all the vector bundles of the title can be obtained by holomorphic induction from representations of a certain parabolic group on finite dimensional inner product spaces. The representations, and the induced bundles, have composition series with irreducible factors. We give a condition under which the bundle and the direct sum of its irreducible constituents are intertwined by an equivariant constant coefficient differential operator. We show that in the case of the unit ball in $\mathbb C^2$ this condition is always satisfied. As an application we show that all homogeneous pa…
In this paper we study the representations of loop Affine-Virasoro Algebras. As they have canonical triangular decomposition, we define Verma modules and its irreducible quotients. We give necessary and sufficient condition for an irreducible highest weight module to have finite dimensional weight spaces. We prove that an irreducible integrable module is either an highest weight module or a lowest weight module whenever the canonical central element acts non trivially. At the end we construct Affine central operators for each integer and they commute with the action of the Affine Lie Algebra.
In this paper, all irreducible weight modules with finite dimensional weight spaces over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra are determined. There are two different classes of them. One class is formed by simple modules of intermediate series, whose weight spaces are all 1-dimensional; the other class consists of the irreducible highest weight modules and lowest weight modules.
We define regular Kac-Moody superalgebras and classify them using integrable modules. We give conditions for irreducible highest weight modules of regular Kac-Moody superalgebras to be integrable. This paper is a major part of the proof for the classification of finite-growth contragredient Lie superalgebras.
In the representation theory of split reductive algebraic groups, it is well known that every Weyl module with minuscule highest weight is irreducible over every field. Also, the adjoint representation of $E_8$ is also irreducible over every field. In this paper, we prove a converse to these statements, as conjectured by Gross: if a Weyl module is irreducible over every field, it must be either one of these, or trivially constructed from one of these.
In this paper, we obtain a class of Virasoro modules by taking tensor products of the irreducible Virasoro modules $Ω(λ,α,h)$ defined in \cite{CG}, with irreducible highest weight modules $V(θ,h)$ or with irreducible Virasoro modules Ind$_θ(N)$ defined in \cite{MZ2}. We obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for such tensor product modules to be irreducible, and determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for two of them to be isomorphic. These modules are not isomorphic to any other known irreducible Virasoro modules.
The notion of derivatives for smooth representations of GL(n) in the p-adic case was defined by J. Bernstein and A. Zelevinsky. In the archimedean case, an analog of the highest derivative was defined for irreducible unitary representations by S. Sahi and called the "adduced" representation. In this paper we define derivatives of all order for smooth admissible Frechet representations (of moderate growth). The archimedean case is more problematic than the p-adic case; for example arbitrary derivatives need not be admissible. However, the highest derivative continues being admissible, and for i…
In this paper, we obtain a class of Virasoro modules by taking tensor products of the irreducible Virasoro modules $Ω(λ,α,h)$ and $Ω(μ, b)$ with irreducible highest weight modules $V(θ,h)$ or with irreducible Virasoro modules Ind$_θ(N)$ defined in [MZ2]. We obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for such tensor product modules to be irreducible, and determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for two of them to be isomorphic. We also compare these modules with other known non-weight Virasoro modules.
We construct every finite-dimensional irreducible representation of the simple Lie algebra of type $\mathsf{E}_{7}$ whose highest weight is a nonnegative integer multiple of the dominant minuscule weight associated with the type $\mathsf{E}_{7}$ root system. As a consequence, we obtain constructions of each finite-dimensional irreducible representation of the simple Lie algebra of type $\mathsf{E}_{6}$ whose highest weight is a nonnegative integer linear combination of the two dominant minuscule $\mathsf{E}$-weights. Our constructions are explicit in the sense that, if the representing space i…
In this paper, we construct a class of non-weight modules over the affine-Virasoro algebra of type $A_1$ by taking tensor products of a finite number of irreducible modules $M(λ, α, β, γ)$ with irreducible highest weight modules $V(η, ε, θ)$. We obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for such tensor product modules to be irreducible, and determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for such two modules to be isomorphic. We also compare these modules with other known non-weight modules, showing that these irreducible modules are new.
We use the idea of free fields to obtain highest weight representations for the extended affine Lie algebra $\widetilde{\frak{gl}_{2}(\bc_q)}$ coordinatized by the quantum torus $\bc_q$ and go on to construct a contravariant hermitian form. We further give a necessary and sufficient condition such that the contravariant hermitian form is positive definite.
We study the level-one irreducible highest weight representations of $U_q[\hat{gl(1|1)}]$ and associated q-vertex operators. We obtain the exchange relations satisfied by the vertex operators. The characters and supercharacters associated with these irreducible representations are calculated.
A family of global integrals representing a product of tensor product (partial) $L$-functions: $ L^S(s,π\timesτ_1)L^S(s,π\timesτ_2)... L^S(s,π\timesτ_r) $ are established in this paper, where $π$ is an irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation of a quasi-split classical group of Hermitian type and $τ_1,...,τ_r$ are irreducible unitary cuspidal automorphic representations of $\GL_{a_1},...,\GL_{a_r}$, respectively. When $r=1$ and the classical group is an orthogonal group, this was studied by Ginzburg, Piatetski-Shapiro and Rallis in 1997 and when $π$ is generic and $τ_1,...,τ_r$ are not …
Let K be a complex reductive algebraic group and V a representation of K. Let S denote the ring of polynomials on V. Assume that the action of K on S is multiplicity free. If V_λ is an irreducible representation of K, let S_λ denote the corresponding isotypic component of S. Write S_λ S_μ for the subspace of S spanned by products of S_λ and S_μ. If V_ν occurs as an irreducible constituent of the tensor product of V_λ and V_μ, is it true that S_ν is contained in S_λ S_μ? We investigate this question for representations arising in the context of Hermitian symmetric pairs. We show that the answer…
We determine the exchange relations of the level-one q-vertex operators of the quantum affine superalgebra $U_q[\hat{gl(N|N)}]$. We study in details the level-one irreducible highest weight representations of $U_q[\hat{gl(2|2)}]$, and compute the characters and supercharacters associated with these irreducible modules.
Affine Lie algebras admit non-classical highest-weight theories through alternative partitions of the root system. Although significant inroads have been made, much of the classical machinery is inapplicable in this broader context, and some fundamental questions remain unanswered. In particular, the structure of the reducible objects in non-classical theories has not yet been fully understood. This question is addressed here for affine sl(2), which has a unique non-classical highest-weight theory, termed "imaginary". The reducible Verma modules in the imaginary theory possess an infinite desc…
The famous Kazhdan-Lusztig Conjecture of the 1970s states that the multiplicity of an irreducible composition factor of a Verma module can be computed by evaluating Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials at 1. Thus the character of a Verma module is a linear combination of characters of irreducible highest weight modules where the coefficients in the linear combination are Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials evaluated at 1. Kazhdan-Lusztig showed that inverting and writing the character of an irreducible highest weight module as a linear combination of characters of Verma modules, the coefficients in the linear …
In this paper, we first construct a Lie algebra $L$ from rank 3 quantum torus, and show that it is isomorphic to the core of EALAs of type $A_1$ with coordinates in rank 2 quantum torus. Then we construct two classes of irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded highest weight representations, and give the necessary and sufficient conditions for these representations to be quasifinite. Next, we prove that they exhaust all the generalized highest weight irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded quasifinite representations. As a consequence, we determine all the irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded quasifinite representations wit…
We consider $U_{q}(\mathfrak{gl}_{n})$, the quantum group of type $A$ for $|q| = 1$, $q$ generic. We provide formulas for signature characters of irreducible finite-dimensional highest weight modules and Verma modules. In both cases, the technique involves combinatorics of the Gelfand-Tsetlin bases. As an application, we obtain information about unitarity of finite-dimensional irreducible representations for arbitrary $q$: we classify the continuous spectrum of the unitarity locus. We also recover some known results in the classical limit $q \rightarrow 1$ that were obtained by different means…
We classify the quasi-finite irreducible highest weight modules over the infinite rank Lie superalgebras $\hgltwo$, $\hC$ and $\hD$, and determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for quasi-finite irreducible highest weight modules to be unitarizable with respect to natural $\ast$-structures of the Lie superalgebras. The unitarizable irreducible modules are constructed in terms of Fock spaces of free quantum fields, and explicit formulae for their formal characters are also obtained by investigating Howe dualities between the infinite rank Lie superalgebras and classical Lie groups.
We classify finite-dimensional irreducible highest weight modules of generalized quantum groups whose positive part is infinite dimensional and has a Kharchenko's PBW basis with an irreducible finite positive root system.
A classification of finite dimensional irreducible representations of the nonstandard $q$-deformation $U'_q(so_n)$ of the universal enveloping algebra $U(so(n, C))$ of the Lie algebra $so(n, C)$ (which does not coincides with the Drinfeld--Jimbo quantized universal enveloping algebra $U_q(so_n)$) is given for the case when $q$ is not a root of unity. It is shown that such representations are exhausted by representations of the classical and nonclassical types. Examples of the algebras $U'_q(so_3)$ and $U'_q(so_4)$ are considered in detail. The notions of weights, highest weights, highest weigh…
In a categorification of tensor products of fundamental representations of quantum sl(k) via highest weight categories, the indecomposable tilting modules descend to the canonical basis. Since projective functors map tilting modules to tilting modules, the coefficients of the canonical basis of tensor products of finite dimensional, irreducible representations under the action of the Chevalley generators are positive.
We present a formula for the degree of the discriminant of irreducible representations of a Lie group, in terms of the roots of the group and the highest weight of the representation. The proof uses equivariant cohomology techniques, namely, the theory of Thom polynomials, and a new method for their computation. We study the combinatorics of our formulas in various special cases.
We classify the simple quantum group modules with finite dimensional weight spaces when the quantum parameter $q$ is transcendental and the Lie algebra is not of type $G_2$. This is part $2$ of the story. The first part being Irreducible quantum group modules with finite dimensional weight spaces. I (arXiv:1504.07042). In that paper the classification is reduced to the classification of torsion free simple modules. In this paper we follow the procedures used by O. Mathieu to reduce the classification to the classification of infinite dimensional admissible simple highest weight modules. We the…
We consider the quantum symmetric pair $(\mathcal{U}_q(\mathfrak{su}(3)), \mathcal{B})$ where $\mathcal{B}$ is a right coideal subalgebra. We prove that all finite-dimensional irreducible representations of $\mathcal{B}$ are weight representations and are characterised by their highest weight and dimension. We show that the restriction of a finite-dimensional irreducible representation of $\mathcal{U}_q(\mathfrak{su}(3))$ to $\mathcal{B}$ decomposes multiplicity free into irreducible representations of $\mathcal{B}$. Furthermore we give explicit expressions for the highest weight vectors in th…
We define analogues of Verma modules for finite W-algebras. By the usual ideas of highest weight theory, this is a first step towards the classification of finite dimensional irreducible modules. Motivated by known results in type A, we then formulate some precise conjectures in the case of nilpotent orbits of standard Levi type.
