In this paper we establish a rigidity property of holomorphic generators by using their local behavior at a boundary point $τ$ of the open unit disk $Δ$. Namely, if $f\in\mathrm{Hol}(Δ,\mathbb{C})$ is the generator of a one-parameter continuous semigroup $\{F_{t}\}_{t\geq0}$, we state that the equality $f(z)=o(|z-τ|^{3})$ when $z\toτ$ in each non-tangential approach region at $τ$ implies that $f$ vanishes identically on $Δ$. Note, that if $F$ is a self-mapping of $Δ$ then $f=I-F$ is a generator, so our result extends the boundary version of the Schwarz Lemma obtained by D. Burns and S. Krantz. We also prove that two semigroups $\{F_{t}\}_{t\geq0}$ and $\{G_{t}\}_{t\geq0}$, with generators $f$ and $g$ respectively, commute if and only if the equality $f=αg$ holds for some complex constant $α$. This fact gives simple conditions on the generators of two commuting semigroups at their common null point $τ$ under which the semigroups coincide identically on $Δ$.
In this paper we give some quantative characteristics of boundary asymptotic behavior of semigroups of holomorphic self-mappings of the unit disk including the limit curvature of their trajectories at the boundary Denjoy--Wolff point. This enable us to establish an asymptotic rigidity property for semigroups of parabolic type.
In this paper we study commuting families of holomorphic mappings in $\mathbb{C}^n$ which form abelian semigroups with respect to their real parameter. Linearization models for holomorphic mappings are been used in the spirit of Schröder's classical functional equation.
Let $(ϕ_t)$ be a semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of~$\mathbb D$. In this note, we use an abstract approach to define the Königs function of $(ϕ_t)$ and "holomorphic models" and show how to deduce the existence and properties of the infinitesimal generator of $(ϕ_t)$ from this construction.
We give an explicit relation between the slope of the trajectory of a semigroup of holomorphic functions and the harmonic measure of the associated planar domain ${\varOmega}$. We use this to construct a semigroup whose slope is an arbitrary interval in $ [π/2,-π/2] $. The same method is used for the slope of a backward trajectory approaching a super-repulsive fixed point.
We explore two properties of backward orbits under semigroups of holomorphic self-maps in the unit disk. First, we prove that regular backward orbits are quasi-geodesics for the hyperbolic distance of the unit disk. Then, we show that backward orbits satisfy a useful property, this time in Euclidean terms.
In this paper we studied a broader type of generalized balls which are domains on the complex projective with possibly Levi-degenerate boundaries. We proved rigidity theorems for proper holomorphic mappings among them by exploring the structure of the moduli spaces of projective linear subspaces, which generalized some earlier results for the ordinary generalized balls with Levi-nondegenerate boundaries.
We survey a number of recent generalizations and sharpenings of Nehari's extension of Schwarz' lemma for holomorphic self-maps of the unit disk. In particular, we discuss the case of infinitely many critical points and its relation to the zero sets and invariant subspaces for Bergman spaces, as well as the case of equality at the boundary.
We present a rigidity property of holomorphic generators on the open unit ball $\mathbb{B}$ of a Hilbert space $H$. Namely, if $f\in\Hol (\mathbb{B},H)$ is the generator of a one-parameter continuous semigroup ${F_t}_{t\geq 0}$ on $\mathbb{B}$ such that for some boundary point $τ\in \partial\mathbb{B}$, the admissible limit $K$-$\lim\limits_{z\toτ}\frac{f(x)}{\|x-τ\|^{3}}=0$, then $f$ vanishes identically on $\mathbb{B}$.
Let $(ϕ_t)_{t \geq 0}$ be a semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ with Denjoy-Wolff point $τ=1$. The angular derivative is $ϕ_t^{\prime}(1)= e^{-λt}$, where $λ\geq 0$ is the spectral value of $(ϕ_t)$. If $λ>0$ the semigroup is hyperbolic, otherwise it is parabolic. Suppose $K$ is a compact non-polar subset of $\mathbb{D}$ with positive logarithmic capacity. We specify the type of the semigroup by examining the asymptotic behavior of $ϕ_t(K)$. We provide a representation of the spectral value of the semigroup with the use of several potential theoretic quantities e.g.…
Let $(ϕ_t)_{t \geq 0}$ be a semigroup of holomorphic functions in the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ and $K$ a compact subset of $\mathbb{D}$. We investigate the conditions under which the backward orbit of $K$ under the semigroup exists. Subsequently, the geometric characteristics, as well as, potential theoretic quantities for the backward orbit of $K$ are examined. More specifically, results are obtained concerning the asymptotic behavior of its hyperbolic area and diameter, the harmonic measure and the capacity of the condenser that $K$ forms with the unit disk.
A generalized Fock-Bargmann-Hartogs domain $D_n^{\mathbf{m},\mathbf{p}}$ is defined as a domain fibered over $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ with the fiber over $z\in \mathbb{C}^{n}$ being a generalized complex ellipsoid $Σ_z({\mathbf{m},\mathbf{p}})$. In general, a generalized Fock-Bargmann-Hartogs domain is an unbounded non-hyperbolic domains without smooth boundary. The main contribution of this paper is as follows. By using the explicit formula of Bergman kernels of the generalized Fock-Bargmann-Hartogs domains, we obtain the rigidity results of proper holomorphic mappings between two equidimensional gen…
In the study of holomorphic maps, the term "rigidity" refers to certain types of results that give us very specific information about a general class of holomorphic maps owing to the geometry of their domains or target spaces. Under this theme, we begin by studying when, given two compact connected complex manifolds $X$ and $Y$, a degree-one holomorphic map $f: Y\to X$ is a biholomorphism. Given that the real manifolds underlying $X$ and $Y$ are diffeomorphic, we provide a condition under which $f$ is a biholomorphism. Using this result, we deduce a rigidity result for holomorphic self-maps of…
Our first main result gives assumptions guaranteeing that proper holomorphic maps between Cartan type I bounded symmetric domains have simple block matrix shape, answering positively a question of Mok. The proof is based on the second main result establishing similar phenomenon for local CR maps between arbitrary boundary components of two bounded symmetric domains of the above type. Since boundary components other than Shilov boundaries are Levi-degenerate, our analysis is based on their $2$-nondegeneracy combining Levi forms with higher order tensors.
The pentablock is a Hartogs domain over the symmetrized bidisc. The domain is a bounded inhomogeneous pseudoconvex domain, and does not have a $\mathcal{C}^{1}$ boundary. Recently, Agler-Lykova-Young constructed a special subgroup of the group of holomorphic automorphisms of the pentablock, and Kosiński completely described the group of holomorphic automorphisms of the pentablock. The purpose of this paper is to prove that any proper holomorphic self-mapping of the pentablock must be an automorphism.
In this paper, we discuss a rigidity property for holomorphic disks in Teichmüller space. In fact, we give a refinement of Tanigawa's rigidity theorem. We will also treat the rigidity property of holomorphic disks for complex manifolds. We observe the rigidity property is valid for bounded strictly pseudoconvex domains with $C^{2}$-boundaries, but the rigidity property does not hold for product manifolds.
We introduced a new coordinate-free approach to study the Cauchy-Riemann (CR) maps between the real hyperquadrics in the complex projective space. The central theme is based on a notion of orthogonality on the projective space induced by the Hermitian structure defining the hyperquadrics. There are various kinds of special linear subspaces associated to this orthogonality which are well respected by the relevant CR maps and this is where the rigidities come from. Our method allows us to generalize a number of well-known rigidity theorems for the CR mappings between real hyperquadrics with much…
In this paper we study the following "slice rigidity property": given two Kobayashi complete hyperbolic manifolds $M, N$ and a collection of complex geodesics $\mathcal F$ of $M$, when is it true that every holomorphic map $F:M\to N$ which maps isometrically every complex geodesic of $\mathcal F$ onto a complex geodesic of $N$ is a biholomorphism? Among other things, we prove that this is the case if $M, N$ are smooth bounded strictly (linearly) convex domains, every element of $\mathcal F$ contains a given point of $\overline{M}$ and $\mathcal F$ spans all of $M$. More general results are pro…
In this paper I give a condition, in terms of boundary behaviour, that forces the infinitesimal generator of a one-parameter semigroup of holomorphic maps to vanish.
We study compact complex 3-manifolds admitting holomorphic Riemannian metrics. We prove a uniformization result: up to a finite unramified cover, such a manifold admits a holomorphic Riemannian metric of constant sectionnal curvature.
We prove that the space of surjective holomorphic maps from a compact complex manifold to a compact Kähler manifold with trivial canonical class and finite fundamental group is discrete.
We introduce three quantities related to orbits of non-elliptic continuous semigroups of holomorphic self-maps of the unit disc, the total speed, the orthogonal speed and the tangential speed and show how they are related and what can be inferred from those.
Given a bounded n-connected domain in the plane bounded by non-intersecting Jordan curves, and given one point on each boundary curve, L. Bieberbach proved that there exists a proper holomorphic mapping of the domain onto the unit disc that is an n-to-one branched covering with the properties that it extends continuously to the boundary and maps each boundary curve one-to-one onto the unit circle, and it maps each given point on the boundary to the point 1 in the unit circle. We modify a proof by H. Grunsky of Bieberbach's result to show that there is a rational function of 2n+2 complex variab…
Being motivated by the orthogonal maps studied in \cite{GN1}, orthogonal pairs between the projective spaces equipped with possibly degenerate Hermitian forms were introduced. In addition, orthogonal pairs are generalizations of holomorphic Segre maps between Segre families of real hyperquadrics. We showed that non-degenerate holomorphic orthogonal pairs also have certain rigidity properties under a necessary codimension restriction. As an application, we got a rigidity theorem for Segre maps related to Heisenberg hypersurfaces obtained by Zhang in \cite{Zh}.
We study relationships between the asymptotic behaviour of a non-elliptic semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of the unit disk and the geometry of its planar domain (the image of the Koenigs function). We establish a sufficient condition for the trajectories of the semigroup to converge to its Denjoy-Wolff point with a definite slope. We obtain as a corollary two previously known sufficient conditions.
We show that the tangential speed of a parabolic semigroup of holomorphic self-maps in the unit disc is asymptotically bounded from above by (1/2)logt, proving a conjecture by Bracci. In order to show the proof we need a result of "asymptotical monotonicity" of the tangential speed for proper pairs of parabolic semigroups with positive hyperbolic step.
We give three necessary and sufficient conditions so that a parabolic holomorphic semigroup $(ϕ_t)$ in the unit disc is of finite shift. One is in terms of the asymptotic behavior of speeds of convergence, the second one is related to the hyperbolic metric of its Koenigs domain $Ω$ and the latter one deals with Euclidean properties of $Ω$.
Let $(φ_t)$, $(ϕ_t)$ be two one-parameter semigroups of holomorphic self-maps of the unit disc $\mathbb D\subset \mathbb C$. Let $f:\mathbb D \to \mathbb D$ be a homeomorphism. We prove that, if $f \circ ϕ_t=φ_t \circ f$ for all $t\geq 0$, then $f$ extends to a homeomorphism of $\bar{\mathbb D}$ outside exceptional maximal contact arcs (in particular, for elliptic semigroups, $f$ extends to a homeomorphism of $\bar{\mathbb D}$). Using this result, we study topological invariants for one-parameter semigroups of holomorphic self-maps of the unit disc.
It has been an open problem for about ten years whether every trajectory of a parabolic one-parameter semigroup in the unit disk tends to the Denjoy-Wolff point with a definite (and common for all trajectories) slope. In this paper, we give the negative answer to this question.
Let $D$ be a bounded strongly convex domain with smooth boundary in $\mathbb C^N$. Let $(ϕ_t)$ be a continuous semigroup of holomorphic self-maps of $D$. We prove that if $p\in \partial D$ is an isolated boundary regular fixed point for $ϕ_{t_0}$ for some $t_0>0$, then $p$ is a boundary regular fixed point for $ϕ_t$ for all $t\geq 0$. Along the way we also study backward iteration sequences for elliptic holomorphic self-maps of $D$.
We study, to certain Banach spaces $X$, families of weighted composition operators. Notably, we show that if this family form a strongly continuous semigroup, then its infinitesimal generator ($Γ, D(Γ)$) is given by $Γf = gf+Gf^\prime$ with $D(Γ) = \{ f\in X \ | \ gf+Gf^\prime\in X \}$ where $g, G$ are holomorphic functions. Moreover, our second maim result is to study the reciprocal implication. That is if $(Γ, D(Γ))$, define like above, generate a strongly continuous semigroup, then this one is a family of weighted composition operators.
We study the backward dynamics of one-parameter semigroups of holomorphic self-maps of the unit disk. More specifically, we introduce the speeds of convergence for petals of the semigroup, namely the total, orthogonal, and tangential speeds. These are analogous to speeds of convergence introduced by Bracci, yet profoundly different due to the nature of backward dynamics. Results are extracted on the asymptotic behavior of speeds of petals, depending on the type of the petal. We further discuss the asymptotic behavior of the hyperbolic distance along non-regular backward orbits.
A holomorphic mapping $H$ between two real-analytic CR manifolds $M$ and $M'$ is said to be locally rigid if any other holomorphic map $F\colon M \to M'$ which is close enough to $H$ is obtained by composing $H$ with suitable automorphisms of $M$ and $M'$. With the aim of reducing the local rigidity problem to a linear one, we provide sufficient infinitesimal conditions. Furthermore we study some topological properties of the action of the automorphism group on the space of nondegenerate mappings from $M$ to $M'$.
In this paper we establish two boundary versions of the Schwarz lemma. The first is for general holomorphic self maps of bounded convex domains with $C^2$ boundary. This appears to be the first boundary Schwarz lemma for general holomorphic self maps that requires no strong pseudoconvexity or finite type assumptions. The second is for biholomorphisms of domains who have an invariant Kähler metric with bounded sectional curvature. This second result applies to holomorphic homogeneous regular domains and appears to be the first boundary Schwarz lemma that makes no assumptions on the regularity o…
We study boundary singularities which can appear for infinitesimal generators of one-parameter semigroups of holomorphic self-maps in the unit disc. We introduce "regular" fractional singularities and characterize them in terms of the behavior of the associated semigroups and Koenigs functions. We also provide necessary and sufficient geometric criteria on the shape of the image of the Koenigs function for having such singularities. In order to do this, we study contact points of semigroups and prove that any contact (not fixed) point of a one-parameter semigroup corresponds to a maximal arc o…
We study two notions of topological entropy of correspondences introduced by Friedland and Dinh-Sibony. Upper bounds are known for both. We identify a class of holomorphic correspondences whose entropy in the sense of Dinh-Sibony equals the known upper bound. This provides an exact computation of the entropy for rational semigroups. We also explore a connection between these two notions of entropy.
In this article we study deformations of a holomorphic foliation with a generic non-rational first integral in the complex plane. We consider two vanishing cycles in a regular fiber of the first integral with a non-zero self intersection and with vanishing paths which intersect each other only at their start points. It is proved that if the deformed holonomies of such vanishing cycles commute then the deformed foliation has also a first integral. Our result generalizes a similar result of Ilyashenko on the rigidity of holomorphic foliations with a persistent center singularity. The main tools …
In this paper, we present a new technique for studying the dynamics of a finitely generated rational semigroup. Such a semigroup can be associated naturally to a certain holomorphic correspondence on $\mathbb{P}^1$. Then, results on the iterative dynamics of such a correspondence can be applied to the study of the rational semigroup. We focus on a certain invariant measure for the aforementioned correspondence---known as the equilibrium measure. This confers some advantages over many of the known techniques for studying the dynamics of rational semigroups. We use the equilibrium measure to ana…
This paper is based on three hours of lectures given by the first author in the "Focus Program on Analytic Function Spaces and their Applications" July 1 -- December 31, 2021, organized by the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences. The goal of this paper is to give an introduction to the properties of discrete and continuous $C_0$-semigroups of (weighted) composition operators on various spaces of analytic functions.
The Fock-Bargmann-Hartogs domain $D_{n,m}(μ)$ ($μ>0$) in $\mathbf{C}^{n+m}$ is defined by the inequality $\|w\|^2<e^{-μ\|z\|^2},$ where $(z,w)\in \mathbf{C}^n\times \mathbf{C}^m$, which is an unbounded non-hyperbolic domain in $\mathbf{C}^{n+m}$. Recently, Yamamori gave an explicit formula for the Bergman kernel of the Fock-Bargmann-Hartogs domains in terms of the polylogarithm functions and Kim-Ninh-Yamamori determined the automorphism group of the domain $D_{n,m}(μ)$. In this article, we obtain rigidity results on proper holomorphic mappings between two equidimensional Fock-Bargmann-Hartogs …
We prove a Burns-Krantz type boundary rigidity near strongly pseudoconvex points for holomorphic self-maps with an interior fixed point. This confirms a conjecture of Huang.
Hua domain, named after Chinese mathematician Loo-Keng Hua, is defined as a domain in $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ fibered over an irreducible bounded symmetric domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{C}^{d}\;(d<n)$ with the fiber over $z\in Ω$ being a $(n-d)$-dimensional generalized complex ellipsoid $Σ(z)$. In general, a Hua domain is a nonhomogeneous domain without smooth boundary. The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we obtain what seems to be the first rigidity results on proper holomorphic mappings between two equidimensional Hua domains. Secondly, we determine the explicit form of the biholomorphisms be…
The tension equation for a mapping $f:{\mathbb C}\to {\mathbb C}$ is the nonlinear second order equation \[ Δf +φ(f) f_z f_{\bar z} = 0\] Solutions are "harmonic" mappings. Here we give a complete description of the solution space of mappings of degree 1 to this equation when $φ$ is entire. Each solution is a quasiconformal surjection and when the set of normalised solutions is endowed with the Teichmüller metric, the solution space is isometric to the hyperbolic plane. More generally, for harmonic mappings $f:Ω\to (\tildeΩ,ρ)$ between domains in ${\mathbb C}$, with $ρ(w)|dw|$ defining a flat …
