Given a generically surjective holomorphic vector bundle morphism $f\colon E\to Q$, $E$ and $Q$ Hermitian bundles, we construct a current $R^f$ with values in $\Hom(Q,H)$, where $H$ is a certain derived bundle, and with support on the set $Z$ where $f$ is not surjective. The main property is that if $ϕ$ is a holomorphic section of $Q$, and $R^fϕ=0$, then locally $fψ=ϕ$ has a holomorphic solution $ψ$. In the generic case also the converse holds. This gives a generalization of the corresponding theorem for a complete intersection, due to Dickenstein-Sessa and Passare. We also present results for polynomial mappings, related to M Noether's theorem and the effective Nullstellensatz. The construction of the current is based on a generalization of the Koszul complex. By means of this complex one can also obtain new global estimates of solutions to $fψ=ϕ$, and as an example we give new results related to the $H^p$-corona problem.
We give a local criterion in terms of a residue current for strong holomorphicity of a meromorphic function on an arbitrary pure-dimensional analytic variety. This generalizes a result by A Tsikh for the case of a reduced complete intersection.
We construct Coleff-Herrera products and Bochner-Martinelli type residue currents associated with a tuple $f$ of weakly holomorphic functions, and show that these currents satisfy basic properties from the (strongly) holomorphic case, as the transformation law, the Poincaré-Lelong formula and the equivalence of the Coleff-Herrera product and the Bochner-Martinelli type residue current associated with $f$ when $f$ defines a complete intersection.
We study the problem of classifying the holomorphic $(m,n)$-subharmonic morphisms in complex space. This determines which holomorphic mappings preserves $m$-subharmonicity in the sense that the composition of the holomorphic mapping with a $m$-subharmonic functions is $n$-subharmonic. We show that there are three different scenarios depending on the underlying dimensions, and the model itself. Either the holomorphic mappings are just the constant functions, or up to composition with a homotethetic map, canonical orthogonal projections. Finally, there is a more intriguing case when subharmonici…
In this work we prove a Baum-Bott type residue theorem for flags of holomorphic foliations. We prove some relations between the residues of the flag and the residues of their correspondent foliations. We define the Nash residue for flags and we give a partial answer to the Baum-Bott type rationality conjecture in this context .
Let $\mathcal{F}$ be a singular codimension one holomorphic foliation on a compact complex manifold $X$ of dimension at least three such that its singular set has codimension at least two. In this paper, we determine Lehmann-Suwa residues of $\mathcal{F}$ as multiples of complex numbers by integration currents along irreducible complex subvarieties of $X$. We then prove a formula that determines the Baum-Bott residue of simple almost Liouvillian foliations of codimension one, in terms of Lehmann-Suwa residues, generalizing a result of Marco Brunella. As an application, we give sufficient condi…
Let $X$ be a complex manifold and $f\colon X\to \C^p$ a holomorphic mapping defining a complete intersection. We prove that the iterated Mellin transform of the residue integral associated to $f$ has an analytic continuation to a neighborhood of the origin in $\C^p$.
Given two ideals $\mathcal{I}$ and $\mathcal{J}$ of holomorphic functions such that $\mathcal{I} \subseteq \mathcal{J}$, we describe a comparison formula relating the Andersson-Wulcan currents of $\mathcal{I}$ and $\mathcal{J}$. More generally, this comparison formula holds for residue currents associated to two generically exact Hermitian complexes together with a morphism between the complexes. One application of the comparison formula is a generalization of the transformation law for Coleff-Herrera products to Andersson-Wulcan currents of Cohen-Macaulay ideals. We also use it to give an ana…
In this paper, with the aim of establishing a structure theorem for a compact Kähler manifold $X$ with semi-positive holomorphic sectional curvature, we study a morphism $ϕ: X \to Y$ to a compact Kähler manifold $Y$ with pseudo-effective canonical bundle. We prove that the morphism $ϕ$ is always smooth (that is, a submersion), the image $Y$ admits a finite etale cover $T \to Y$ by a complex torus $T$, and further that all the fibers are isomorphic when $X$ is projective. Moreover, by applying a modified method to maximal rationally connected fibrations, we show that $X$ is rationally connected…
With a given holomorphic section of a Hermitian vector bundle, one can associate a residue current by means of Cauchy-Fantappiè-Leray type formulas. In this paper we define products of such residue currents. We prove that, in the case of a complete intersection, the product of the residue currents of a tuple of sections coincides with the residue current of the direct sum of the sections.
Let $f_1$, $f_2$, and $f_3$ be holomorphic functions on a complex manifold and assume that the common zero set of the $f_j$ has maximal codimension, i.e., that it is a complete intersection. We prove that the iterated Mellin transform of the residue integral has an analytic continuation to a neighborhood of the origin in $\mathbb{C}^3$. We prove also that the natural regularization of the residue current converges unrestrictedly.
For a Cohen-Macaulay ideal of holomorphic functions, we construct by elementary means residue currents whose annihilator is precisely the given ideal. We give two proofs that the currents have the prescribed annihilator, one using the theory of linkage, and another using an explicit division formula involving these residue currents to express the ideal membership.
We describe various approaches to Coleff-Herrera products of residue currents $R^j$ (of Cauchy-Fantappiè-Leray type) associated to holomorphic mappings $f_j$. More precisely, we study to which extent (exterior) products of natural regularizations of the individual currents $R^j$ yield regularizations of the corresponding Coleff-Herrera products. Our results hold globally on an arbitrary pure-dimensional complex space.
We study the residue current R^f of Bochner-Martinelli type associated with a tuple f=(f_1,...,f_m) of holomorphic germs at the origin in C^n, whose common zero set equals the origin. Our main results are a geometric description of R^f in terms of the Rees valuations associated with the ideal (f) generated by f and a characterization of when the annihilator ideal of R^f equals (f).
In this work we prove a Brunella-Khanedani-Suwa variational type residue theorem for currents invariant by holomorphic foliations. As a consequence, we give conditions for the leaves of a singular holomorphic foliation to accumulate in the intersection of the singular set of the foliation with the support of an invariant current.
A theorem of Weil and Atiyah says that a holomorphic vector bundle $E$ on a compact Riemann surface $X$ admits a holomorphic connection if and only if the degree of every direct summand of $E$ is zero. Fix a finite subset $S$ of $X$, and fix an endomorphism $A(x) \in \text{End}(E_x)$ for every $x \in S$. It is natural to ask when there is a logarithmic connection on $E$ singular over $S$ with residue $A(x)$ at every $x \in S$. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for it under the assumption that the residues $A(x)$ are rigid.
We show that a global holomorphic section of $\mathscr{O}(d)$ restricted to a closed complex subspace $X \subset \mathbb{P}^n$ has an interpolant if and only if it satisfies a set of moment conditions that involves a residue current associated with a locally free resolution of $\mathscr{O}_X$. When $X$ is a finite set of points in $\mathbb{C}^n \subset \mathbb{P}^n$ this can be interpreted as a set of linear conditions that a function on $X$ has to satisfy in order to have a polynomial interpolant of degree at most $d$.
We prove that the Coleff-Herrera residue current, corresponding to a pair of holomorphic functions defining a complete intersection, can be obtained as the unrestricted weak limit of a natural smooth $(0,2)$-form depending on two parameters. Moreover, we prove that the rate of convergence is Hölder. This result is in contrast to the fact, first discovered by Passare and Tsikh, that the residue integral in general is discontinuous at the origin. We also generalize our regularization results to pairs of so called Bochner-Martinelli, or more generally, Cauchy-Fantappie-Leray blocks in the case of…
We give a new and self-contained proof of the existence and unicity of the flow for an arbitrary (not necessarily homogeneous) smooth vector field on a real supermanifold, and extend these results to the case of holomorphic vector fields on complex supermanifolds. Furthermore we discuss local actions associated to super vector fields, and give several examples and applications, as, e.g., the construction of an exponential morphism for an arbitrary finite dimensional Lie supergroup. In the 2nd version we corrected typos, presentation of figures and other small points. We added references in Sec…
Let $f$ be a $r\times m$-matrix of holomorphic functions that is generically surjective. We provide explicit integral representation of holomorphic $ψ$ such that $ϕ=fψ$, provided that $ϕ$ is holomorphic and annihilates a certain residue current with support on the set where $f$ is not surjective. We also consider formulas for interpolation. As applications we obtain generalizations of various results previously known for the case $r=1$.
We study the weighted Bochner-Martinelli residue current R^p(f) associated with a sequence f=(f_1,...,f_m) of holomorphic germs at the origin in C^n, whose common zero set equals the origin, and p=(p_1,..., p_m)\in N^n. Our main results are a description of R^p(f) and its annihilator ideal in terms of the Rees valuations of the ideal generated by (f_1^{p_1},..., f_m^{p_m}) and an explicit description of R^p(f) when f is monomial. For a monomial sequence f we show that R^p(f) is independent of p if and only if f is a regular sequence.
Let $X$ be a connected Oka manifold, and let $S$ be a Stein manifold with $\mathrm{dim} S \geq \mathrm{dim} X$. We show that every continuous map $S\to X$ is homotopic to a surjective strongly dominating holomorphic map $S\to X$. We also find strongly dominating algebraic morphisms from the affine $n$-space onto any compact $n$-dimensional algebraically subelliptic manifold. Motivated by these results, we propose a new holomorphic flexibility property of complex manifolds, the basic Oka property with surjectivity, which could potentially provide another characterization of the class of Oka man…
Applying the Second Main Theorem we deal with the algebraic degeneracy of entire holomorphic curves from the complex plane into a complex algebraic normal variety of positive log Kodaira dimension that admits a finite proper morphism to a semi-abelian variety. We will also discuss applications to the Kobayashi hyperbolicity problem.
Given a free resolution of an ideal $J$ of holomorphic functions, one can construct a vector valued residue current $R$, whose annihilator is precisely $J$. In this paper we compute $R$ in case $J$ is a monomial ideal and the resolution is a cellular resolution in the sense of Bayer and Sturmfels. A description of $R$ is given in terms of the underlying polyhedral cell complex and it is related to irreducible decompositions of $J$.
An old theorem of Weil and Kodaira says that for a compact Kähler manifold $X$ there is a closed logarithmic $1$-form with residue divisor $D$ if and only if $D$ is homologous to zero in $H_{2n-2}(X,\mathbb C)$. In the first part of this paper, we generalize the above theorem to general compact complex manifolds by showing that the necessary and sufficient condition in general is described by a holomorphic invariant called the $\mathcal Q$-flat class. Next, we prove that the holomorphic criterion is reduced to the topological one when $X$ has Property $(H)$. Since all Kähler manifolds have Pro…
We give new a proof of the general Briançon-Skoda theorem about ideals of holomorphic functions by means of multivariable residue calculus. The method gives new variants of this theorem for products of ideals. Moreover, we obtain a related result for the ideal generated by the the subdeterminants of a matrix-valued generically surjective holomorphic function, generalizing the duality theorem for a complete intersection. We also provide explicit versions of the various results, including the general Briançon-Skoda theorem, with integral representation formulas.
We study pseudonorms on pluricanonical bundles over Stein manifolds. We prove that the pseudonorms determine holomorphic structures of Stein manifolds under certain assumptions. This theorem is based on and a generalization of the result obtained by Deng, Wang, Zhang and Zhou \cite{DWZZ} for bounded domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$. We also investigate Stein morphisms and the pseudonorms on direct images of pluricanonical bundles. Our main goal in this paper is to show that the pseudonorms also determine holomorphic structures of Stein morphisms. One important technique is an $L^{2/m}$-variant of the…
The purpose of this paper is to establish injectivity theorems for higher direct image sheaves of canonical bundles twisted by pseudo-effective line bundles and multiplier ideal sheaves. As applications, we generalize Koll'ar's torsion freeness and Grauert-Riemenschneider's vanishing theorem. Moreover, we obtain a relative vanishing theorem of Kawamata-Viehweg-Nadel type and an extension theorem for holomorphic sections from fibers of morphisms to the ambient space. Our approach is based on transcendental methods and works for K"ahler morphisms and singular hermitian metrics with non-algebraic…
Given a free resolution of an ideal $\mathfrak{a}$ of holomorphic functions, one can construct a vector-valued residue current, $R$, which coincides with the classical Coleff-Herrera product if $\mathfrak{a}$ is a complete intersection ideal and whose annihilator ideal is precisely ~$\mathfrak{a}$. We give a complete description of $R$ in the case when $\mathfrak{a}$ is an Artinian monomial ideal and the resolution is the hull resolution (or a more general cellular resolution), extending previous results by the second author. The main ingredient in the proof is a comparison formula for residue…
Given a surjective holomorphic map between two compact Kaehler manifolds, we investigate the positivity properties of relative adjoint transcendental classes which are inherited from similar fiberwise properties. As a consequence, we solve a problem proposed by J.-P. Demailly, T. Peternell and M. Schneider concerning the Albanese morphism of Kaehler manifolds with nef anticanonical class.
In his paper "On the Number of Primes Less Than a Given Magnitude", Bernhard Riemann introduced a prime counting function F(x) which counts the number of primes under x. Riemann obtained an analytic expression for F(x) by evaluating an inverse Laplace Transform. His method involved advanced techniques of analysis. However, this transform can be evaluated using the Residue Theorem when an appropriate branch of log(zeta) is defined. In this paper, a method for constructing a holomorphic branch of log(zeta) extending to the left half-plane is described along with it's geometry surrounding the log…
In previous work of the authors and their collaborators (see Progress in Math, vol. 114, Birkäuser, 1993) it was shown how the equivalence of several constructions of residue currents associated to complete intersection families of (germs of) holomorphic functions in ${\bf C}^n$ could be profitably used to solve algebraic problems like effective versions of the Nullstellensatz. In this work we explain how an application of similar ideas in the non-complete intersection case leads to a remarkable algebraic result, namely: Let $P_1,...,P_n$ be $n$ polynomials in $n$ variables such that the zero …
In this paper, we establish a structure theorem for a smooth projective variety $X$ with semi-positive holomorphic sectional curvature. Our structure theorem contains the solution for Yau's conjecture and it can be regarded as a natural generalization of the structure theorem proved by Howard-Smyth-Wu and Mok for holomorphic bisectional curvature. Specifically, we prove that $X$ admits a locally trivial morphism $ϕ:X \to Y$ such that the fiber $F$ is rationally connected and the image $Y$ has a finite étale cover $A \to Y$ by an abelian variety $A$, by combining the author's previous work with…
Let f : X --> Y be a holomorphic map of complex manifolds, which is proper, Kahler, and surjective with connected fibers, and which is smooth over Y-Z the complement of an analytic subset Z. Let E be a Nakano semi-positive vector bundle on X, and consider direct image sheaves F = R^qf_*(K_{X/Y} \otimes E) for q \geq 0. In our previous paper, we discussed the Nakano semi-positivity of F with respect to the so-called Hodge metric, when the map f is smooth. In this paper, we discuss the extension of the induced metric on the tautological line bundle O(1) on the projective space bundle P(F) ``over…
Let X be a complex curve, $X_{sa}$ the subanalytic site associated to X, M a holonomic $D_X$-module. Let $O^t$ be the sheaf on $X_{sa}$ of tempered holomorphic functions, Sol(M) (resp. $Sol^t$(M)) the complex of holomorphic (resp. tempered holomorphic) solutions of M. We prove that the natural morphism from $H^1 Sol^t$(M) to $H^1$Sol(M) is an isomorphism of sheaves on $X_{sa}$. As a consequence, we prove that $Sol^t$(M) is R-constructible in the sense of sheaves on $X_{sa}$. Such a result is conjectured by M. Kashiwara and P. Schapira in Astérisque 284 in any dimension.
In this short note we would like to show how it is possible to use techniques introduced in the theory of local dynamics of holomorphic germs tangent to the identity to study global meromorphic self-maps of the complex projective space. In particular we shall show how a meromorphic self-map of a complex projective space induces a holomorphic foliation of the projective space in Riemann surfaces, whose singular points are exactly the fixed points and the indeterminacy points of the map; and we shall prove three index theorems, relating suitably defined local residues at the fixed and indetermin…
