Given a Stein manifold X of dimension n>1, a discrete sequence a_j in X, and a discrete sequence b_j in C^m where m > [3n/2], there exists a proper holomorphic embedding of X into C^m which sends a_j to b_j for every j=1,2,.... This is the interpolation version of the embedding theorem due to Eliashberg, Gromov and Schurmann. The dimension m cannot be lowered in general due to an example of Forster.
We consider the problem of interpolating a holomorphic family of nondegenerate holomorphic jets on C^n for n > 1, parametrized by points in a Stein manifold, by a holomorphic family of automorphisms of C^n. We show that under a suitable topological condition it is possible to find a solution, thereby generalizing results of Forstneric and Varolin concerning the nonparametric jet interpolation by automorphisms.
We construct automorphisms of $\C^n$ which map certain discrete sequences one onto another with prescribed finite jet at each point, thus solving a general Mittag-Leffler interpolation problem for automorphisms. Under certain circumstances, this can be done while also approximating a given automorphism on a compact set.
We deal with a problem of the reconstruction of any holomorphic function $f$ on the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^2$ from its restricions on a union of complex lines. We give an explicit formula of Lagrange interpolation's type that is constructed from the knowledge of $f$ and its derivatives on these lines. We prove that this formula approximates any function when the number of lines increases. The motivation of this problem comes also from possible applications in mathematical economics and medical imaging.
We provide a necessary condition for the existence of a 3-point holomorphic interpolant $F:\mathbb{D}\longrightarrowΩ_n$, $n\geq 2$. Our condition is inequivalent to the necessary conditions hitherto known for this problem. The condition generically involves a single inequality and is reminiscent of the Schwarz lemma. We combine some of the ideas and techniques used in our result on the $\mathcal{O}(\mathbb{D},Ω_n)$-interpolation problem to establish a Schwarz lemma -- which may be of independent interest -- for holomorphic correspondences from $\mathbb{D}$ to a general planar domain $Ω\Subset…
Let $f$ be a $r\times m$-matrix of holomorphic functions that is generically surjective. We provide explicit integral representation of holomorphic $ψ$ such that $ϕ=fψ$, provided that $ϕ$ is holomorphic and annihilates a certain residue current with support on the set where $f$ is not surjective. We also consider formulas for interpolation. As applications we obtain generalizations of various results previously known for the case $r=1$.
This paper reports on constructive approximation methods for three classes of holomorphic functions on the unit disk which are closely connected each other: the class of starlike and spirallike functions, the class of semigroup generators, and the class of functions with positive real part. It is more-or-less known that starlike or spirallike functions can be defined as solutions of singular differential equations which, in general, are not stable under the motion of interior singular points to the boundary. At the same time, one can establish a perturbation formula which continuously transfor…
Given a Stein manifold with the density property, we show that under a suitable topological condition it is possible to prescribe derivatives at a finite number of points to automorphisms depending holomorphically on a Stein parameter. This is an Oka property of the manifold and is related to its holomorphic flexibility.
A complex manifold $Y$ is said to have the interpolation property if a holomorphic map to $Y$ from a subvariety $S$ of a reduced Stein space $X$ has a holomorphic extension to $X$ if it has a continuous extension. Taking $S$ to be a contractible submanifold of $X=\mathbb{C}^n$ gives an ostensibly much weaker property called the convex interpolation property. By a deep theorem of Forstnerič, the two properties are equivalent. They (and about a dozen other nontrivially equivalent properties) define the class of Oka manifolds. This paper is the first attempt to develop Oka theory for singular tar…
We give here some precisions and improvements about the validity of the explicit reconstruction of any holomorphic function on a ball of $\mathbb{C}^2$ from its restrictions on a family of complex lines. Such validity depends on the mutual distribution of the lines. This condition can be geometrically described and is equivalent to a stronger stability of the reconstruction formula in terms of permutations and subfamilies of these lines. The motivation of this problem comes from possible applications in mathematical economics and medical imaging.
We study the approximation of maps into complex manifolds along with interpolation on certain compact subsets of the plane. Results are also obtained regarding approximation and interpolation of sections of holomorphic submersions.
There are three new things in this paper about the open symmetrized bidisk $\mathbb G = \{(z_1+z_2, z_1z_2) : |z_1|, |z_2| < 1\}$. They are motivated in the Introduction. In this Abstract, we mention them in the order in which they will be proved. \begin{enumerate} \item The Realization Theorem: A realization formula is demonstrated for every $f$ in the norm unit ball of $H^\infty(\mathbb G)$. \item The Interpolation Theorem: Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation theorem is proved for data from the symmetrized bidisk and a specific formula is obtained for the interpolating function. \item The Extensio…
We introduce the class of $n$-extremal holomorphic maps, a class that generalises both finite Blaschke products and complex geodesics, and apply the notion to the finite interpolation problem for analytic functions from the open unit disc into the symmetrised bidisc $Γ$. We show that a well-known necessary condition for the solvability of such an interpolation problem is not sufficient whenever the number of interpolation nodes is 3 or greater. We introduce a sequence $\mathcal{C}_ν, ν\geq 0,$ of necessary conditions for solvability, prove that they are of strictly increasing strength and show…

Let $M$ be an open Riemann surface and $n\ge 3$ be an integer. We prove that on any closed discrete subset of $M$ one can prescribe the values of a conformal minimal immersion $M\to\mathbb{R}^n$. Our result also ensures jet-interpolation of given finite order, and hence, in particular, one may in addition prescribe the values of the generalized Gauss map. Furthermore, the interpolating immersions can be chosen to be complete, proper into $\mathbb{R}^n$ if the prescription of values is proper, and one-to-one if $n\ge 5$ and the prescription of values is one-to-one. We may also prescribe the flu…
We analyse the 3-extremal holomorphic maps from the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ to the symmetrised bidisc $ \mathcal{G}$, defined to be the set $ \{(z+w,zw): z,w\in\mathbb{D}\}$, with a view to the complex geometry and function theory of $\mathcal{G}$. These are the maps whose restriction to any triple of distinct points in $\mathbb{D}$ yields interpolation data that are only just solvable. We find a large class of such maps; they are rational of degree at most 4. It is shown that there are two qualitatively different classes of rational $\mathcal{G}$-inner functions of degree at most 4, to be call…
Given a convergent sequence of nodes we present a one-dimensional-holomorphic-function version of the Newton interpolation method of polynomials. It also generalises the Taylor and the Laurent formula. In other words, we present an effective identity theorem for complex domains.
Answering a question of Lindholm, we prove strict density inequalities for sampling and interpolation in Fock spaces of entire functions in several complex variables defined by a plurisubharmonic weight. In particular, these spaces do not admit a set that is simultaneously sampling and interpolating. To prove optimality of the density conditions, we construct sampling sets with a density arbitrarily close to the critical density. The techniques combine methods from several complex variables (estimates for $\bar \partial$) and the theory of localized frames in general reproducing kernel Hilbert…
Let $X$ be an open Riemann surface. We prove an Oka property on the approximation and interpolation of continuous maps $X \to (\mathbb{C}^*)^2$ by proper holomorphic embeddings, provided that we permit a smooth deformation of the complex structure on $X$ outside a certain set. This generalises and strengthens a recent result of Alarcon and Lopez. We also give a Forstneric-Wold theorem for proper holomorphic embeddings (with respect to the given complex structure) of certain open Riemann surfaces into $(\mathbb{C}^*)^2$.
In the space of holomorphic functions in a convex domain it is studied the interpolation problem by means of sums of the series of exponentials converging uniformly on all compact sets of the domain. The discrete set of the interpolation nodes with multiplicities is located on the real axis in the domain and it has the only finite limit point. It is obtained a criterion for solvability of the problem in the terms of distribution of limit directions of exponents of exponentials at infinity.
It is known (implicit in [HMNT]) that when $Λ$ is an interpolating sequence for the Nevanlinna or the Smirnov class then there exist functions $f_λ$ in these spaces, with uniform control of their growth and attaining values 1 on $λ$ and 0 in all other $λ'\neqλ$. We provide an example showing that, contrary to what happens in other algebras of holomorphic functions, the existence of such functions does not imply that $Λ$ is an interpolating sequence.
Let Ωbe a bounded, weakly convex domain in C^n, n>1, having real-analytic boundary. A(Ω) is the algebra of all functions holomorphic in Ωand continuous upto the boundary. A submanifold M\subset \partialΩis said to be complex-tangential if T_p(M) lies in the maximal complex subspace of T_p(\partialΩ) for each p \in M. We show that for real-analytic submanifolds M\subset \partialΩ, if M is complex-tangential, then every compact subset of M is a peak-interpolation set for A(Ω).
We study those smooth complex hypersurfaces W in C^n having the property that all holomorphic functions of finite weighted L^p norm on W extend to entire functions with finite weighted L^p norm. Such hypersurfaces are called interpolation hypersurfaces. We also examine the dual problem of finding all sampling hypersurfaces, i.e., smooth hypersurfaces W in C^n such that any entire function with finite weighted L^p norm is stably determined by its restriction to W. We provide sufficient geometric conditions on the hypersurface to be an interpolation and sampling hypersurface. The geometric condi…
We explore the convergence of Kergin interpolation polynomials of holomorphic functions in Banach spaces, which need not be of bounded type. We also investigate a case where the Kergin series diverges.
We present several results associated to a holomorphic-interpolation problem for the spectral unit ball Ω_n, n\geq 2. We begin by showing that a known necessary condition for the existence of a $\mathcal{O}(D;Ω_n)$-interpolant (D here being the unit disc in the complex plane), given that the matricial data are non-derogatory, is not sufficient. We provide next a new necessary condition for the solvability of the two-point interpolation problem -- one which is not restricted only to non-derogatory data, and which incorporates the Jordan structure of the prescribed data. We then use some of the …
The tetrablock is the set $$ \mathcal{E}=\{x \in \mathbb{C}^3: \quad 1-x_1z-x_2w+x_3z w \neq 0 \quad whenever \quad |z|\leq 1, |w|\leq 1\}. $$ The closure of $\mathcal{E}$ is denoted by $\overline{\mathcal{E}}$. A tetra-inner function is an analytic map $x$ from the unit disc $ \mathbb{D} $ to $\overline{\mathcal{E}}$ such that, for almost all points $λ$ of the unit circle $ \mathbb{T}$, \[ \lim_{r\uparrow 1} x(r λ) \mbox{ exists and lies in } b \overline{\mathcal{E}}, \] where $b \overline{\mathcal{E}}$ denotes the distinguished boundary of $\overline{\mathcal{E}}$. There is a natural notion …
In this paper we study nonlinear interpolation problems for interpolation and peak-interpolation sets of function algebras. The subject goes back to the classical Rudin-Carleson interpolation theorem. In particular, we prove the following nonlinear version of this theorem: Let $\bar{\mathbb D}\subset \mathbb C$ be the closed unit disk, $\mathbb T\subset\bar{\mathbb D}$ the unit circle, $S\subset\mathbb T$ a closed subset of Lebesgue measure zero and $M$ a connected complex manifold. Then for every continuous $M$-valued map $f$ on $S$ there exists a continuous $M$-valued map $g$ on $\bar{\mathb…
We find sufficient conditions for a discrete sequence to be interpolating or sampling for certain generalized Bergman spaces on open Riemann surfaces. As in previous work of Bendtsson, Ortega-Cerda, Seip, Wallsten and others, our conditions for interpolation and sampling are as follows: If a certain upper density of the sequence has value less that 1, then the sequence is interpolating, while if a certain lower density has value greater than 1, then the sequence is sampling. However, unlike previous work, we construct an infinite number of densities, naturally parameterized by $L^1_{loc} ([0,\…
Given a finite sequence $a:={a_1, ..., a_N}$ in a domain $Ω\subset C^n$, and complex scalars $v:={v_1, ..., v_N}$, consider the classical extremal problem of finding the smallest uniform norm of a holomorphic function verifying $f(a_j)=v_j$ for all $j$. We show that the modulus of the solutions to this problem must approach its least upper bound along a subset of the boundary of the domain large enough to contain the support of a measure whose hull contains a subset of the original $a$ large enough to force the same minimum norm. Furthermore, all the solutions must agree on a variety which als…
We prove that square integrable holomorphic functions (with respect to a plurisubharmonic weight) can be extended in a square integrable manner from certain singular hypersurfaces (which include uniformly flat, normal crossing divisors) to entire functions in affine space. This provides evidence for a conjecture regarding the positivity of the curvature of the weight under consideration.
Given a regular compact set $E$ in the complex plane, a unit measure $μ$ supported by $\partial E,$ a triangular point set $β:= \{\{β_{n,k}\}_{k=1}^n\}_{n=1}^{\infty},β\subset \partial E$ and a function $f$, holomorphic on $E$, let $π_{n,m}^{β,f}$ be the associated multipoint $β-$ Padé approximant of order $(n,m)$. We show that if the sequence $π_{n,m}^{β,f}, n\inΛ, m-$ fixed, converges exact maximally to $f$, as $n\to\infty,n\inΛ$ inside the maximal domain of $m-$ meromorphic continuability of $f$ relatively to the measure $μ,$ then the points $β_{n,k}$ are uniformly distributed on $\partial …
We prove a generalisation of Rudin's theorem on proper holomorphic maps from the unit ball to the case of proper holomorphic maps from pseudoellipsoids.
Building on the first two authors' previous results, we prove a general criterion for convergence of (possibly singular) Bergman measures towards equilibrium measures on complex manifolds. The criterion may be formulated in terms of growth properties of balls of holomorphic sections, or equivalently as an asymptotic minimization of generalized Donaldson L-functionals. Our result yields in particular the proof of a well-known conjecture in pluripotential theory concerning the equidistribution of Fekete points, and it also gives the convergence of Bergman measures towards equilibrium for Bernste…
Answering all questions---concerning proper holomorphic mappings between generalized Hartogs triangles---posed by Jarnicki and Plfug (First steps in several complex variables: Reinhardt domains, 2008) we characterize the existence of proper holomorphic mappings between generalized Hartogs triangles and give their explicit form. In particular, we completely describe the group of holomorphic automorphisms of such domains and establish rigidity of proper holomorphic self-mappings on them.
We characterize pairs of bounded Reinhardt domains in $\CC^2$ between which there exists a proper holomorphic map and find all proper maps that are not elementary algebraic.
We prove that two proper holomorphic polynomial maps between bounded symmetric domains of classical type which preserve the origin are equivalent if and only if they are isotropically equivalent.
We describe all possibilities of existence of non-elementary proper holomorphic maps between non-hyperbolic Reinhardt domains in $\mathbb C^2$ and the corresponding pairs of domains.
We prove that a Stein manifold of dimension $d$ admits a proper holomorphic embedding into any Stein manifold of dimension at least $2d+1$ satisfying the holomorphic density property. This generalizes classical theorems of Remmert, Bishop and Narasimhan pertaining to embeddings into complex Euclidean spaces, as well as several other recent results.
We show that each proper holomorphic self map of a symmetric power of the unit ball is an automorphism naturally induced by an automorphism of the unit ball, provided the ball is of dimension at least two.
We characterize the existence of proper holomorphic mappings in the special class of bounded $(1,2,...,n)$-balanced domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$, called the symmetrized ellipsoids. Using this result we conclude that there are no non-trivial proper holomorphic self-mappings in the class of symmetrized ellipsoids. We also describe the automorphism groupof these domains.
We introduce a "dual-space approach" to mixed Nevanlinna-Pick/Carathéodory-Schur interpolation in Banach spaces X of holomorphic functions on the disk. Our approach can be viewed as complementary to the well-known commutant lifting approach of D. Sarason and B. Nagy-C.Foiaş. We compute the norm of the minimal interpolant in X by a version of the Hahn-Banach theorem, which we use to extend functionals defined on a subspace of kernels without increasing their norm. This Functional extensions lemma plays a similar role as Sarason's Commutant lifting theorem but it only involves the predual of X a…
We consider the analogue for regular maps from affine varieties to suitable algebraic manifolds of Oka theory for holomorphic maps from Stein spaces to suitable complex manifolds. The goal is to understand when the obstructions to approximation or interpolation are purely topological. We propose a definition of an algebraic Oka property, which is stronger than the analytic Oka property. We review the known examples of algebraic manifolds satisfying the algebraic Oka property and add a new class of examples: smooth nondegenerate toric varieties. On the other hand, we show that the algebraic ana…
A complete characterization of proper holomorphic mappings between domains from the class of all pseudoconvex Reinhardt domains in $\C^2$ with the logarithmic image equal to a strip or a half-plane is given.
The explicit form of proper holomorphic mappings between complex ellipsoids is given. Using this description, we characterize the existence of proper holomorphic mappings between generalized Hartogs triangles and give their explicit form. In particular, the automorphism group of such domains is found.
It is shown that if a proper holomorphic map $f: \mathbb C^n \to \mathbb C^N$, $1<n\le N$, sends a pseudoconvex real analytic hypersurface of finite type into another such hypersurface, then any $n-1$ dimensional component of the critical locus of $f$ intersects both sides of $M$. We apply this result to the problem of boundary regularity of proper holomorphic mappings between bounded domains in $\mathbb C^n$.
In this paper, we prove a type of partial rigidity result for proper holomorphic mappings of certain $\ell$-concave domains in projective space into model quadratic $\ell$-concave domains. The main technical result is a degree estimate for proper holomorphic mappings into the model domains, provided that the mappings extend to projective space as rational mappings, and the source domain contains algebraic varieties and has a boundary with low CR complexity.
In 1927, Carleman showed that a continuous, complex-valued function on the real line can be approximated in the Whitney topology by an entire function restricted to the real line. In this paper, we prove a similar result for proper holomorphic embeddings. Namely, we show that a proper $\cC^r$ embedding of the real line into $\C^n$ can be approximated in the strong $\cC^r$ topology by a proper holomorphic embedding of $\C$ into $\C^n$.
The aim of this paper is to present a simple way to generate proper monomial rational maps between generalized balls and via the relations between generalized balls and bounded symmetric domains of type I, we suggest new examples of proper holomorphic maps between bounded symmetric domains of type I.
We classify proper holomorphic mappings between generalized pseudoellipsoids of different dimensions. Those domains are parametrized by the exponents. The relations among them are also obtained. Main tool is the orthogonal decomposition of a CR bundle. Such a decomposition derives the `variable-splitting' of the mapping.
We show that the only proper-holomorphic self-maps of bounded domains in C^k whose dynamics escape to a strictly pseudoconvex point of the boundary are automorphisms of the euclidean ball. This is a Wong-Rosay type result for a sequence of maps whose degrees are a priori unbounded.
