Let G be a connected reductive group acting on a finite dimensional vector space V. Assume that V is equipped with a G-invariant symplectic form. Then the ring C[V] of polynomial functions becomes a Poisson algebra. The ring C[V]^G of invariants is a sub-Poisson algebra. We call V multiplicity free if C[V]^G is Poisson commutative, i.e., if {f,g}=0 for all invariants f and g. Alternatively, G also acts on the Weyl algebra W(V) and V is multiplicity free if and only if the subalgebra W(V)^G of invariants is commutative. In this paper we classify all multiplicity free symplectic representations.
Coadjoint orbits and multiplicity free spaces of compact Lie groups are important examples of symplectic manifolds with Hamiltonian groups actions. Constructing action-angle variables on these spaces is a challenging task. A fundamental result in the field is the Guillemin-Sternberg construction of Gelfand-Zeitlin integrable systems for the groups $K=U(n), SO(n)$. Extending these results to groups of other types is one of the goals of this paper. Partial tropicalizations are Poisson spaces with constant Poisson bracket built using techniques of Poisson-Lie theory and the geometric crystals of …
We study polar representations in the sense of Dadok and Kac which are symplectic. We show that such representations are coisotropic and use this fact to give a classification. We also study their moment maps and prove that they separate closed orbits. Our work can also be seen as a specialization of some of the results of Knop on multiplicity free symplectic representations to the polar case.
A (quasi-)Hamiltonian manifold is called multiplicity free if all of its symplectic reductions are 0-dimensional. In this paper, we classify multiplicity free Hamiltonian actions for (twisted) loop groups or, equivalently, multiplicity free (twisted) quasi-Hamiltonian manifolds for simply connected compact Lie groups. As a result we recover old and find new examples of these structures.
In this paper, we complete the classification of six-dimensional closed monotone symplectic manifolds admitting semifree Hamiltonian $S^1$-actions. We also show that every such manifold is $S^1$-equivariantly symplectomorphic to some Käahler Fano manifold with a certain holomorphic Hamiltonian circle action.
Deformation quantization algebroids over a complex symplectic manifold X are locally given by rings of WKB operators, that is, microdifferential operators with an extra central parameter τ. In this paper, we will show that such algebroids are classified by H^2(X;k^*), where k^* is a subgroup of the group of invertible formal Laurent series in τ^-1.
We use Gelfand-Tsetlin diagrams to write down the weight multiplicity function for the Lie algebra sl_k(C) (type A_{k-1}) as a single partition function. This allows us to apply known results about partition functions to derive interesting properties of the weight diagrams. We relate this description to that of the Duistermaat-Heckman measure from symplectic geometry, which gives a large-scale limit way to look at multiplicity diagrams. We also provide an explanation for why the weight polynomials in the boundary regions of the weight diagrams exhibit a number of linear factors. Using symplect…
Let $(M,ω_M)$ be a six dimensional closed monotone symplectic manifold admitting an effective semifree Hamiltonian $S^1$-action. We show that $(M,ω_M)$ is $S^1$-equivariant symplectomorphic to some Kähler Fano manifold $(X,ω_X, J)$ with a certain holomorphic $\mathbb{C}^*$-action. We also give a complete list of all such Fano manifolds and describe all semifree $\mathbb{C}^*$-actions on them specifically.
Let $(M,ω_M)$ be a six dimensional closed monotone symplectic manifold admitting an effective semifree Hamiltonian $S^1$-action. We show that if the maximal and the minimal fixed component are both two dimensional, then $(M,ω_M)$ is $S^1$-equivariantly symplectomorphic to some Kähler Fano manifold $(X, ω_X, J)$ equipped with a certain holomorphic Hamiltonian $S^1$-action. We also give a complete list of all such Fano manifolds together with an explicit description of the corresponding $S^1$-actions.
We consider the global symplectic classification problem of plane curves. First we give the exact classification result under symplectomorphisms, for the case of generic plane curves, namely immersions with transverse self-intersections. Then the set of symplectic classes form the symplectic moduli space which we completely describe by its global topological term. For the general plane curves with singularities, the difference between symplectomorphism and diffeomorphism classifications is clearly described by local symplectic moduli spaces of singularities and a global topological term. We in…
We develop a new algebraic theory of positive braids and conjugacy classes in the braid group $B_3$. We use our theory to establish a complete classification of isotopy classes of degree three symplectic curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ with only $A_n$-singularities for $n\geq 1$ (an $A_n$-singularity is locally modelled by the equation $z^2 = w^n$) independent of Gromov's theory of pseudoholomorphic curves. We show that if $C$ and $C'$ are degree three symplectic curves in $\mathbb{CP}^2$ with the same numbers of $A_n$-singularities for each $n\geq 1$, then $C$ is isotopic to $C'$. Furthermore, our …
The main purpose of this paper is to give a topological and symplectic classification of completely integrable Hamiltonian systems in terms of characteristic classes and other local and global invariants.
We give a generalization of toric symplectic geometry to Poisson manifolds which are symplectic away from a collection of hypersurfaces forming a normal crossing configuration. We introduce the tropical momentum map, which takes values in a generalization of affine space called a log affine manifold. Using this momentum map, we obtain a complete classification of such manifolds in terms of decorated log affine polytopes, hence extending the classification of symplectic toric manifolds achieved by Atiyah, Guillemin-Sternberg, Kostant, and Delzant.
A Hamiltonian action of a complex torus on a symplectic complex manifold is said to be {\it multiplicity free} if a general orbit is a lagrangian submanifold. To any multiplicity free Hamiltonian action of a complex torus $T\cong (\C^\times)^n$ on a Stein manifold $X$ we assign a certain 5-tuple consisting of a Stein manifold $Y$, an étale map $Y\to \t^*$, a set of divisors on $Y$ and elements of $H^2(Y,\Z)^{\oplus n}, H^2(Y,\C)$. We show that $X$ is uniquely determined by this invariants. Furthermore, we describe all 5-tuples arising in this way.
Let K $\subset$ G be compact connected Lie groups with common maximal torus T. Let (M, $ω$) be a prequantisable compact connected symplectic manifold with a Hamiltonian G-action. Geometric quantisation gives a virtual representation of G; we give a formula for the character $χ$ of this virtual representation as a quotient of virtual characters of K. When M is a generic coadjoint orbit our formula agrees with the Gross-Kostant-Ramond-Sternberg formula. We then derive a generalisation of the Guillemin-Prato multiplicity formula which, for $λ$ a dominant integral weight of K, gives the multiplici…
The goal of this paper is to classify symplectic toric stratified spaces with isolated singularities. This extends a result of Burns, Guillemin, and Lerman which carries out this classification in the compact connected case. In making this classification, it is necessary to classify symplectic toric cones. Via a well-known equivalence between symplectic toric cones and contact toric manifolds, this allows for the classification of contact toric manifolds as well, extending Lerman's classification of compact connected contact toric manifolds.
We correct an error and an oversight in [IP]. The sign of the curvature in (8.7) is wrong, requiring a new proof of Proposition 8.1. Also, several lemmas addressed only the basic case of maps with intersection multiplicity s=1; the general case follows by applying the pointwise estimates in [IP] with a modified Sobolev norm. These corrections do not affect the results of the paper. We thank M. Tehrani and A. Zinger for pointing out these issues.
In this note we classify invariant star products with quantum momentum maps on symplectic manifolds by means of an equivariant characteristic class taking values in the equivariant cohomology. We establish a bijection between the equivalence classes and the formal series in the second equivariant cohomology, thereby giving a refined classification which takes into account the quantum momentum map as well.
Given a compact oriented surface, we classify log Poisson bi-vectors whose degeneracy loci are locally modeled by a finite set of lines in the plane intersecting at a point. Further, we compute the Poisson cohomology of such structures and discuss the relationship between our classification and the second Poisson cohomology.
Delzant's theorem for symplectic toric manifolds says that there is a one-to-one correspondence between certain convex polytopes in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and symplectic toric $2n$-manifolds, realized by the image of the moment map. I review proofs of this theorem and the convexity theorem of Atiyah-Guillemin-Sternberg on which it relies. Then, I describe Honda's results on the local structure of near-symplectic 4-manifolds, and inspired by recent work of Gay-Symington, I describe a generalization of Delzant's theorem to near-symplectic toric 4-manifolds. One interesting feature of the generalization …
We show that hyperelliptic symplectic Lefschetz fibrations are symplectically birational to two-fold covers of rational ruled surfaces, branched in a symplectically embedded surface. This reduces the classification of genus 2 fibrations to the classification of certain symplectic submanifolds in rational ruled surfaces.
In this paper we extend the classification scheme in [S] for $b^m$-symplectic surfaces and, more generally, $b^m$-Nambu structures to the equivariant setting. When the compact group is the group of deck-transformations of an orientable covering, this yields the classification of these objects for non-orientable surfaces. The paper also includes recipes to construct $b^m$-symplectic structures on surfaces. Feasibility of such constructions depends on orientability and on the colorability of an associated graph. The desingularization technique in [GMW] is revisited for surfaces and the compatibi…
Let $(M,ω_M)$ be a six dimensional closed monotone symplectic manifold admitting an effective semifree Hamiltonian $S^1$-action. We show that if the minimal (or maximal) fixed component of the action is an isolated point, then $(M,ω_M)$ is $S^1$-equivariant symplectomorphic to some Kähler Fano manifold $(X,ω_X, J)$ with a certain holomorphic $\mathbb{C}^*$-action. We also give a complete list of all such Fano manifolds and describe all semifree $\mathbb{C}^*$-actions on them specifically.
We study symplectic structures on nilpotent Lie algebras. Since the classification of nilpotent Lie algebras in any dimension seems to be a crazy dream, we approach this study in case of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras (in this sub-case also, the classification fo the dimension greater than 8 seems very difficult), using not a classification but a description of subfamilies associated with the characteristic sequence. We begin with the dimension $8$, first step where the classification becomes difficult.
In this paper we investigate equivariant Morita theory for algebras with momentum maps and compute the equivariant Picard groupoid in terms of the Picard groupoid explicitly. We consider three types of Morita theory: ring-theoretic equivalence, *-equivalence and strong equivalence. Then we apply these general considerations to star product algebras over symplectic manifolds with a Lie algebra symmetry. We obtain the full classification up to equivariant Morita equivalence.
We study the local symplectic algebra of the 0-dimensional isolated complete intersection singularities. We use the method of algebraic restrictions to classify these symplectic singularities. We show that there are non-trivial symplectic invariants in this classification.
Given a $G$-toric, folded-symplectic manifold with co-orientable folding hypersurface, we show that its orbit space is naturally a manifold with corners $W$ equipped with a smooth map $ψ: W \to \frak{g}^*$, where $\frak{g}^*$ is the dual of the Lie algebra of the torus, $G$. The map $ψ$ has fold singularities at points in the image of the folding hypersurface under the quotient map to $W$ and it is a unimodular local embedding away from these points. Thus, to every $G$-toric, folded-symplectic manifold we can associate its orbit space data $ψ:W \to \frak{g}^*$, a unimodular map with folds. We …
Almost toric manifolds form a class of singular Lagrangian fibered symplectic manifolds that is a natural generalization of toric manifolds. Notable examples include the K3 surface, the phase space of the spherical pendulum and rational balls useful for symplectic surgeries. The main result of the paper is a complete classification up to diffeomorphism of closed almost toric four-manifolds. A key step in the proof is a geometric classification of the singular affine structures that can occur on the base of a closed almost toric four-manifold.
We study left invariant contact forms and left invariant symplectic forms on Lie groups. We give the classification of all symplectic structures on nilpotent Lie algebras up the dimension 6.
In the present paper, we consider a smooth $C^\infty$ symplectic classification of Lagrangian fibrations near cusp singularities, parabolic orbits and cuspidal tori. We show that for these singularities as well as for an arrangement of singularities known as a flap, which arises in the integrable subcritical Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation, the action variables form a complete set of $C^\infty$ symplectic invariants. We also give a symplectic classification for parabolic orbits in the real-analytic case. Namely, we prove that a complete symplectic invariant in this case is given by a real-analyti…
The coupled angular momenta are a family of completely integrable systems that depend on three parameters and have a compact phase space. They correspond to the classical version of the coupling of two quantum angular momenta and they constitute one of the fundamental examples of so-called semitoric systems. Pelayo & Vu Ngoc have given a classification of semitoric systems in terms of five symplectic invariants. Three of these invariants have already been partially calculated in the literature for a certain parameter range, together with the linear terms of the so-called Taylor series invarian…
Consider a group $Γ$ acting on a formal (Fedosov) deformation quantization $\mathbb{A}_\hbar(M)$ of a symplectic manifold $(M,ω)$. This canonically induces an action of $Γ$ by symplectomorphisms on $M$. We examine the reverse problem of extending group actions by symplectomorphisms to the deformation quantization. To do this we first define a notion of extension that does not impose restrictions on the Fedosov connection realizing $\mathbb{A}_\hbar(M)$ in its gauge equivalence class by considering composition of pull-back with certain inner automorphisms of sections of the Weyl bundle. We refo…
