We reduce the study of the Krull dimension d of the deformation ring of the functor of deformations of curves with automorphisms to the study of the tangent space of the deformation functor of a class of matrix representations of the p-part of the decomposition groups at wild ramified points, and we give a method in order to compute d.
The aim of this article is to establish the specialization method on characteristic ideals for finitely generated torsion modules over a complete local normal domain R that is module-finite over $O[[x_1, ..., x_d]]$, where $O$ is the ring of integers of a finite extension of the field of p-adic integers $Q_p$. The specialization method is a technique that recovers the information on the characteristic ideal $char_R(M)$ from $char_{R/I}(M/IM)$, where I varies in a certain family of nonzero principal ideals of R. As applications, we prove Euler system bound over Cohen-Macaulay normal domains by …
We study integral representations of holomorphic differentials on the Oort-Sekiguci-Suwa component of deformations of curves with cyclic group actions.
Let $G$ be the automorphism group of an extension $F|k$ of algebraically closed fields of characteristic zero and of transcendence degree $n$, $1\le n\le\infty$. In this paper we (i) construct some maximal closed non-open subgroups $G_v$, and some (all, in the case of countable transcendence degree) maximal open proper subgroups of $G$; (ii) describe, in the case of countable transcendence degree, the automorphism subgroups over the intermediate subfields (a question of Krull, \cite[\S4, question 3b)]{krull}); (iii) construct, in the case $n=\infty$, a fully faithful subfunctor $(-)_v$ of the …
In the present paper we prove that finite symplectic groups of automorphisms of manifolds of k3^[n] type can be obtained by deforming natural morphisms arising from K3 surfaces if and only if they satisfy a certain numerical condition.
We provide a method to compute the dimension of the tangent space to the global infinitesimal deformation functor of a curve together with a subgroup of the group of automorphisms. The computational techniques we developed are applied to several examples including Fermat curves, $p$-cyclic covers of the affine line and to Lehr-Matignon curves.
We give a classification of all non-symplectic automorphisms of prime order p acting on irreducible holomorphic symplectic fourfolds deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface, for p=2,3 and 7\leq p \leq 19. Our classification relates the isometry classes of two natural lattices associated to the action of the automorphism on the second cohomology group with integer coefficients with some invariants of the fixed locus and we provide explicit examples. As an application, we find new examples of non-natural non-symplectic automorphisms.
We give an alternative approach to the computation of the dimension of the tangent space of the deformation space of curves with automorphisms. A homological version of the local-global principle similar to the one of J.Bertin, A. Mézard is proved, and a computation in the case of ordinary curves is obtained, by application of the results of S. Nakajima for the Galois module structure of the space of 2-holomorphic differentials on them.
Building on Schlessinger's work, we define a framework for studying geometric deformation problems which allows us to systematize the relationship between the local and global tangent and obstruction spaces of a deformation problem. Starting from Schlessinger's functors of Artin rings, we proceed in two steps: we replace functors to sets by categories fibered in groupoids, allowing us to keep track of automorphisms, and we work with deformation problems naturally associated to a scheme X, and which naturally localize on X, so that we can formalize the local behavior. The first step is already …
The article is a slightly extended version of the talk, with the same title, which I gave at the Kinosaki Symposium on Algebraic Geometry in October 2011, and dealing with the classification of complex projective surfaces of general type with vanishing geometric genus, and especially with the moduli spaces of Burniat surfaces.
In this paper, we show that the infinitesimal Torelli theorem implies the existence of deformations of automorphisms. In the first part, we use Hodge theory and deformation theory to study the deformations of automorphisms of complex projective manifolds. In the second part, we use crystalline cohomology to explore the p-adic analogues of the first part, which generalizes a result of Berthelot and Ogus. The study of the deformations of automorphisms also provides criterions characterizing when the action of the automorphism group of a variety on its cohomology is faithful.
Let $M$ be an irreducible holomorphic symplectic (hyperkähler) manifold. If $b_2(M)\geq 5$, we construct a deformation $M'$ of $M$ which admits a symplectic automorphism of infinite order. This automorphism is hyperbolic, that is, its action on the space of real $(1,1)$-classes is hyperbolic. If $b_2(M) \geq 14$, similarly, we construct a deformation which admits a parabolic automorphism.
We study the deformation theory of nonsigular projective curves defined over algebraic closed fields of positive characteristic. We show that under some assumptions the local deformation problem for automorphisms of powerseries can be reduced to a deformation problem for matrix representations. We study both equicharacteristic and mixed deformations in the case of two dimensional representations.
We generalise the techniques of arXiv:0908.1963 to describe derived deformations in simplicial categories. This allows us to consider deformation problems with higher automorphisms, such as chain complexes (which have homotopies) and stacks (which have 2-automorphisms). We also give a general approach for studying deformations of diagrams.
We show that on an Abelian variety over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic, the obstruction to lifting an automorphism to an Abelian variety over a field of characteristic zero as a morphism vanishes if and only if it vanishes for lifting it as an autoequivalence. We also compare the deformation space of these two types of deformations.
If $X$ is a rational surface without nonzero holomorphic vector field and $f$ is an automorphism of $X$, we study in several examples the Zariski tangent space of the local deformation space of the pair $(X, f)$.
We continue our investigation of the connected components of the moduli space of surfaces of general type containing the Burniat surfaces, correcting a mistake in part II. We define the family of extended Burniat surfaces with K_S^2 = 4, resp. 3, and prove that they are a deformation of the family of nodal Burniat surfaces with K_S^2 = 4, resp. 3. We show that the extended Burniat surfaces together with the nodal Burniat surfaces with K_S^2=4 form a connected component of the moduli space. We prove that the extended Burniat surfaces together with the nodal Burniat surfaces with K_S^2=3 form an…
The present paper provides several results on automorphisms of hyperkähler (or irreducible holomorphic symplectic) manifolds. In particular it focuses on the symplectic case and contains a classification of prime order symplectic automorphisms on deformations of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface and, with additional hypothesis, also on Hilbert schemes of n points on a K3 surface. We also give numerical conditions to establish whether a symplectic automorfism of order 2,3 and 5 on a deformation of the Hilbert scheme of two points on a K3 surface is standard. Moreover we also give…
We apply the known results on the Galois module structure of the sheaf of polydifferentials in order to study the dimension of the tangent space of the deformation functor of curves with automorphisms. We are able to find the dimension for the case of weakly ramified covers and for the case of the action of a cyclic group of order $p^v$.
In this paper we prove that generic small partial smoothings of Kahler-Einstein (KE) Del Pezzo orbifolds with only nodal singularities, and with no non-zero holomorphic vector fields, admit orbifold KE metrics which are close in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense to the original KE metric.
A study of the relation between a noetherian local domain with a given valuation and its associated graded ring with respect to the valuation, which in some cases is an esentially toric variety, possibly of infinite embedding dimension, but of finite Krull dimension. After extension of the valuation to a suitable completion (whose existence is not established in the paper) the relation becomes much more precise, and suggests a possible way to establish local uniformization for an excellent equicharacteristic local domain with an algebraically closed residue field, by deforming a partial toric …
We compute the dimension of the tangent space to, and the Krull dimension of the pro-representable hull of two deformation functors. The first one is the ``algebraic'' deformation functor of an ordinary curve X over a field of positive charateristic with prescribed action of a finite group G, and the data are computed in terms of the ramification behaviour of X -> G\X. The second one is the ``analytic'' deformation functor of a fixed embedding of a finitely generated discrete group N in PGL(2,K) over a non-archimedean valued field K, and the data are computed in terms of the Bass-Serre represe…
By a recent result of Viehweg, projective manifolds with ample canonical class have a coarse moduli space, which is a union of quasiprojective varieties. In this paper, we prove that there are manifolds with ample canonical class that lie on arbitrarily many irreducible components of the moduli; moreover, for any finite abelian group $G$ there exist infinitely many components $M$ of the moduli of varieties with ample canonical class such that the generic automorphism group $G_M$ is equal to $G$. In order to construct the examples, we use abelian covers, i.e. Galois cover whose Galois group is …

We consider matrices with entries in a local ring, Mat(m,n;R). Fix an action of group G on Mat(m,n;R), and a subset of allowed deformations, Σin Mat(m,n;R). The standard question (along the lines of Singularity Theory) is the finite-(Σ,G)-determinacy of matrices. In our previous work this determinacy question was reduced to the study of the tangent spaces to Σand to the orbit, T_{(Σ,A)}, T_{(GA,A)}, and their quotient: the tangent module to the miniversal deformation. In particular, the order of determinacy is controlled by the annihilator of this tangent module. Then we have studied this tang…
We prove that given any $n$-pointed prestable curve $C$ of genus $g$ with linearly reductive automorphism group ${\rm Aut}(C)$, there exists an ${\rm Aut}(C)$-equivariant miniversal deformation of $C$ over an affine variety $W$. In other words, we prove that the algebraic stack $\mathfrak{M}_{g,n}$ parametrizing $n$-pointed prestable curves of genus $g$ has an étale neighborhood of $[C]$ isomorphic to the quotient stack $[W / {\rm Aut}(C)]$.
We study deformation theory of elliptic fibre bundles over curves in positive characteristics. As applications, we give examples of non-liftable elliptic surfaces in charactertic two and three, which answers a question of Katsura and Ueno. Also, we construct a class of elliptic fibrations, whose liftability is equivalent to a conjecture of F. Oort concerning the liftability of automorphisms of curves. Finally, we classify deformations of bielliptic surfaces.
In this paper we study formal moduli for wildly ramified Galois covering. We prove a local-global principle. We then focus on the infinitesimal deformations of the Z/pZ-covers. We explicitly compute a deformation of an automorphism of order p which implies a universal obstruction for p>2. By deforming Artin-Schreier equations we obtain a lower bound on the dimension of the local versal deformation ring. At last, by comparing the global versal deformation ring to the complete local ring in a point of a moduli space, we determine the dimensions of the global and local versal deformation ring.
We study $p$-group Galois covers $X \rightarrow \mathbb{P}^1$ with only one fully ramified point. These covers are important because of the Katz-Gabber compactification of Galois actions on complete local rings. The sequence of ramification jumps is related to the Weierstrass semigroup of the global cover at the stabilized point. We determine explicitly the jumps of the ramification filtrations in terms of pole numbers. We give applications for curves with zero $p$--rank: we focus on maximal curves and curves that admit a big action. Moreover the Galois module structure of polydifferentials is…
Let k denote a perfect field of characteristic 5. We show that the versal deformation ring of an element of order 5 and Hasse conductor 2 as automorphism of a ring of formal power series k[[t]] computed by Bertin and Mezard, is in fact universal. This provides the first example of a non trivial universal deformation ring in higher conductor.

Consider a formal (mixed-characteristic) deformation functor D of a representation of a finite group G as automorphisms of a power series ring k[[t]] over a perfect field k of positive characteristic. Assume that the action of G is weakly ramified, i.e., the second ramification group is trivial. Examples of such representations are provided by a group action on an ordinary curve: the action of a ramification group on the completed local ring of any point on such a curve is weakly ramified. We prove that the only such D that are not pro-representable occur if k has characteristic two and G is o…
