Let A(n) be a sequence of i.i.d. topical (i.e. isotone and additively homogeneous) operators. Let $x(n,x_0)$ be defined by $x(0,x_0)=x_0$ and $x(n,x_0)=A(n)x(n-1,x_0)$. This can modelize a wide range of systems including, task graphs, train networks, Job-Shop, timed digital circuits or parallel processing systems. When A(n) has the memory loss property, we use the spectral gap method to prove limit theorems for $x(n,x_0)$. Roughly speaking, we show that $x(n,x_0)$ behaves like a sum of i.i.d. real variables. Precisely, we show that with suitable additional conditions, it satisfies a central limit theorem with rate, a local limit theorem, a renewal theorem and a large deviations principle, and we give an algebraic condition to ensure the positivity of the variance in the CLT. When A(n) are defined by matrices in the \mp semi-ring, we give more effective statements and show that the additional conditions and the positivity of the variance in the CLT are generic.
Let $(A_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ be a stationary sequence of topical (i.e., isotone and additively homogeneous) operators. Let $x(n,x_0)$ be defined by $x(0,x_0)=x_0$ and $x(n+1,x_0)=A_nx(n,x_0)$. It can model a wide range of systems including train or queuing networks, job-shop, timed digital circuits or parallel processing systems. When $(A_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ has the memory loss property, $(x(n,x_0))_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ satisfies a strong law of large numbers. We show that it also satisfies the CLT if $(A_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ fulfills the same mixing and integrability assumptions that ensure th…
We obtain a strong invariance principle for nonconventional sums and applying this result we derive for them a version of the law of iterated logarithm, as well as an almost sure central limit theorem. Among motivations for such results are their applications to multiple recurrence for stochastic processes and dynamical systems.
Let $(W_n(θ))_{n\in\mathbb N_0}$ be the Biggins martingale associated with a supercritical branching random walk and denote by $W_\infty(θ)$ its limit. Assuming essentially that the martingale $(W_n(2θ))_{n\in\mathbb N_0}$ is uniformly integrable and that $\text{Var} W_1(θ)$ is finite, we prove a functional central limit theorem for the tail process $(W_\infty(θ) - W_{n+r}(θ))_{r\in\mathbb N_0}$ and a law of the iterated logarithm for $W_\infty(θ)-W_n(θ)$, as $n\to\infty$.
Let $ρ$ be a probability measure on $\mathrm{SL}\_d(\mathbb{Z})$ and consider the random walk defined by $ρ$ on the torus $\mathbb{T}^d = \mathbb{R}^d/\mathbb{Z}^d$. Bourgain, Furmann, Lindenstrauss and Mozes proved that under an assumption on the group generated by the support of $$ρ$$, the random walk starting at any irrational point equidistributes in the torus. In this article, we study the central limit theorem and the law of the iterated logarithm for this walk starting at some point having good diophantine properties.
Based on a law of the iterated logarithm for independent random variables sequences, an iterated logarithm theorem for NA sequences with non-identical distributions is obtained. The proof is based on a Kolmogrov-type exponential inequality.
The theory of random matrices contains many central limit theorems. We have central limit theorems for eigenvalues statistics, for the log-determinant and log-permanent, for limiting distribution of individual eigenvalues in the bulk, and many others. In this notes, we discuss the following problem: Is it possible to prove the law of the iterated logarithm? We illustrate this possibility by showing that this is indeed the case for the log of the permanent of random Bernoulli matrices and pose open questions concerning several other matrix parameters.
We derive a novel framework called Bi-Directional Grid Constrained (BGC) stochastic processes in which the further an Ito diffusion drifts away from the origin, then the further it will be constrained. By making suitable modifications to the Law of Iterated Logarithm (LIL), we derive a novel theorem about the upper and lower bounds for BGC processes and their hidden barrier. To visualize the theorem, we run many simulations of the Ito diffusions for a representative expression for lambda(X, t), both before and after BGC and uncover some interesting results with applications into finance and ma…
The exponential inequality of the maximum partial sums is a key to establish the law of the iterated logarithm of negatively associated random variables. In the one-indexed random sequence case, such inequalities for negatively associated random variables are established by Shao (2000) by using his comparison theorem between negatively associated and independent random variables. In the multi-indexed random field case, the comparison theorem fails. The purpose of this paper is to establish the Kolmogorov exponential inequality as well a moment inequality of the maximum partial sums of a negati…
Kolmogorov's exponential inequalities are basic tools for studying the strong limit theorems such as the classical laws of the iterated logarithm for both independent and dependent random variables. This paper establishes the Kolmogorov type exponential inequalities of the partial sums of independent random variables as well as negatively dependent random variables under the sub-linear expectations. As applications of the exponential inequalities, the laws of the iterated logarithm in the sense of non-additive capacities are proved for independent or negatively dependent identically distribute…
In this paper we study random iterated function systems. Our main result gives sufficient conditions for an analogue of a well known theorem due to Khintchine from Diophantine approximation to hold almost surely for stochastically self-similar and self-affine random iterated function systems.
Let M be a noncompact metric space in which every closed ball is compact, and let G be a semigroup of Lipschitz mappings of M. Denote by (Y_n)_{n\geq1} a sequence of independent G-valued, identically distributed random variables (r.v.'s), and by Z an M-valued r.v. which is independent of the r.v. Y_n, n\geq1. We consider the Markov chain (Z_n)_{n\geq0} with state space M which is defined recursively by Z_0=Z and Z_{n+1}=Y_{n+1}Z_n for n\geq0. Let ξbe a real-valued function on G\times M. The aim of this paper is to prove central limit theorems for the sequence of r.v.'s (ξ(Y_n,Z_{n-1}))_{n\geq1…
In this paper, we discuss the value-distribution of the Riemann zeta-function. The authors give some results for the discrepancy estimate and large deviations in the limit theorem by Bohr and Jessen.
Let $(ξ_k,η_k)_{k\in\mathbb{N}}$ be independent identically distributed random vectors with arbitrarily dependent positive components. We call a (globally) perturbed random walk a random sequence $(T_k)_{k\in\mathbb{N}}$ defined by $T_k:=ξ_1+\cdots+ξ_{k-1}+η_k$ for $k\in\mathbb{N}$. Further, by an iterated perturbed random walk is meant the sequence of point processes defining the birth times of individuals in subsequent generations of a general branching process provided that the birth times of the first generation individuals are given by a perturbed random walk. For $j\in\mathbb{N}$ and $t\…
The Proof of Convergence with Probability 1 in the Method of Expansion of Iterated Ito Stochastic Integrals Based on Generalized Multiple Fourier Series
Let $X$, $X_1$, $X_2$, $...$ be i.i.d. random variables, and let $S_n=X_1+... + X_n$ be the partial sums and $M_n=\max_{k\le n}|S_k|$ be the maximum partial sums. We give the sufficient and necessary conditions for a kind of limit theorems to hold on the convergence rate of the tail probabilities of both $S_n$ and $M_n$. These results are related to the law of the iterated logarithm. The results of Gut and Spataru (2000) are special cases of ours.
The spectral gap of a Markov chain can be bounded by the spectral gaps of constituent "restriction" chains and a "projection" chain, and the strength of such a bound is the content of various decomposition theorems. In this paper, we introduce a new parameter that allows us to improve upon these bounds. We further define a notion of orthogonality between the restriction chains and "complementary" restriction chains. This leads to a new Complementary Decomposition theorem, which does not require analyzing the projection chain. For $ε$-orthogonal chains, this theorem may be iterated $O(1/ε)$ tim…
Lacunary function systems of type $(f(M_nx))_{n\geq 1}$ for periodic functions $f$ and sequences of fast-growing matrices $(M_n)_{n\geq 1}$ exhibit many properties of independent random variables like satisfying the Central Limit Theorem or the Law of the Iterated Logarithm. It is well-known that this behaviour depends on number theoretic properties of $(M_n)_{n\geq 1}$ as well as analytic properties of $f$. Classical techniques are essentially based on Fourier analysis making it almost impossible to use a similar approach in the multivariate setting. Recently Aistleitner and Berkes introduced…
Moderate deviation principles (MDPs) for random walks on covering graphs with groups of polynomial volume growth are discussed in a geometric point of view. They deal with any intermediate spatial scalings between those of laws of large numbers and those of central limit theorems. The corresponding rate functions are given by quadratic forms determined by the Albanese metric associated with the given random walks. We apply MDPs to establish laws of the iterated logarithm on the covering graphs by characterizing the set of all limit points of the normalized random walks.

We give concentration bounds for martingales that are uniform over finite times and extend classical Hoeffding and Bernstein inequalities. We also demonstrate our concentration bounds to be optimal with a matching anti-concentration inequality, proved using the same method. Together these constitute a finite-time version of the law of the iterated logarithm, and shed light on the relationship between it and the central limit theorem.
Let $(ξ_k,η_k)_{k\in\mathbb{N}}$ be independent identically distributed random vectors with arbitrarily dependent positive components. We call a (globally) perturbed random walk a random sequence $T:=(T_k)_{k\in\mathbb{N}}$ defined by $T_k:=ξ_1+\ldots+ξ_{k-1}+η_k$ for $k\in\mathbb{N}$. Consider a general branching process generated by $T$ and denote by $N_j(t)$ the number of the $j$th generation individuals with birth times $\leq t$. We treat early generations, that is, fixed generations $j$ which do not depend on $t$. In this setting we prove counterparts for $\mathbb{E}N_j$ of the Blackwell …
By using limit theorems of uniform mixing Markov processes and martingale difference sequences, the strong law of large numbers, central limit theorem, and the law of iterated logarithm are established for additive functionals of path-dependent stochastic differential equations.
We prove a general functional limit theorem for multiparameter fractional Brownian motion. The functional law of the iterated logarithm, functional Lévy's modulus of continuity and many other results are its particular cases. Applications to approximation theory are discussed.
The generalized allocation scheme is studied. Its extension for coloured balls is defined. Some analogues of the Law of the Iterated Logarithm and the Strong Law of Large Numbers are obtained for the number of boxes containing fixed numbers of balls.
In this paper, on the sublinear expectation space, we establish a comparison theorem between independent and convolutionary random vectors, which states that the partial sums of those two sequences of random vectors are identically distributed. Under the sublinear framework, through the comparison theorem, several fundamental limit theorems for convolutionary random vectors are obtained, including the law of large numbers, the central limit theorem and the law of iterated logarithm.
Let $Y$ be a symmetric Borel right process with locally compact state space $T\subseteq R^{1}$ and potential densities $u(x,y)$ with respect to some $σ$-finite measure on $T$. Let $g$ and $f$ be finite excessive functions for $ Y$. Set $$ u_{g, f}(x,y)= u(x,y)+g(x)f(y),\qquad x,y\in T.$$ In this paper we take $Y$ to be a symmetric Lévy process, or a diffusion, that is killed at the end of an independent exponential time or the first time it hits 0. Under general smoothness conditions on $g$, $f$, $u$ and points $d\in T$, laws of the iterated logarithm are found for $X_{k/2} =\{X_{k/2}(t), t\in…
The exponential rate of convergence and the Central Limit Theorem for some Markov operators are established. The operators correspond to iterated function systems which, for example, may be used to generalize the cell cycle model given by Lasota & Mackey (1999).
Limit theorems for non-additive probabilities or non-linear expectations are challenging issues which have raised progressive interest recently. The purpose of this paper is to study the strong law of large numbers and the law of the iterated logarithm for a sequence of random variables in a sub-linear expectation space under a concept of extended independence which is much weaker and easier to verify than the independence proposed by Peng (2008b). We introduce a concept of extended negative dependence which is an extension of this kind of weak independence and the extended negative independen…
In this paper, we prove a central limit theorem for a sequence of iterated Shorohod integrals using the techniques of Malliavin calculus. The convergence is stable, and the limit is a conditionally Gaussian random variable. Some applications to sequences of multiple stochastic integrals, and renormalized weighted Hermite variations of the fractional Brownian motion are discussed.
In his, by now, classical work from 1981, Nerman made extensive use of a crucial martingale $(W_t)_{t \geq 0}$ to prove convergence in probability, in mean and almost surely, of supercritical general branching processes (a.k.a. Crump-Mode-Jagers branching processes) counted with a general characteristic. The martingale terminal value $W$ figures in the limits of his results. We investigate the rate at which the martingale, now called Nerman's martingale, converges to its limit $W$. More precisely, assuming the existence of a Malthusian parameter $α> 0$ and $W_0\in L^2$, we prove a functional c…
We study homogenization of iterated randomized singular integrals and homeomorphic solutions to the Beltrami differential equation with a random Beltrami coefficient. More precisely, let $(F_j)_{j \geq 1}$ be a sequence of normalized homeomorphic solutions to the planar Beltrami equation $\overline{\partial} F_j (z)=μ_j(z,ω) \partial F_j(z),$ where the random dilatation satisfies $|μ_j|\leq k<1$ and has locally periodic statistics, for example of the type $$μ_j (z,ω)=ϕ(z)\sum_{n\in \mathbf{Z}^2}g(2^j z-n,X_{n}(ω)), $$ where $g(z,ω)$ decays rapidly in $z$, the random variables $X_{n}$ are i.i.d…
In this paper we propose the notion of continuous-time dynamic spectral risk-measure (DSR). Adopting a Poisson random measure setting, we define this class of dynamic coherent risk-measures in terms of certain backward stochastic differential equations. By establishing a functional limit theorem, we show that DSRs may be considered to be (strongly) time-consistent continuous-time extensions of iterated spectral risk-measures, which are obtained by iterating a given spectral risk-measure (such as Expected Shortfall) along a given time-grid. Specifically, we demonstrate that any DSR arises in th…
In this paper, we first establish a strong approximation version for the first order limit theorem of some additive functionals related to two non-Markovian Gaussian processes: the fractional Brownian motion (fBm) and the Riemann-Liouville process. As application, we give the law of iterated logarithm of the same additive functionals associated to this two processes
I prove a theorem about iterated integrals for non-product measures in a product space. The first task is to show the existence of a family of measures on the second space, indexed by the points on of the first space (outside a negligible set), such that integrating the measures on the index against the first marginal gives back the original measure (see Theorem 2.1). At the end, I give a simple application in Optimal Transport.
Hawkes process is a self-exciting point process with clustering effect whose intensity depends on its entire past history. It has wide applications in neuroscience, finance and many other fields. In this paper, we obtain a functional central limit theorem for nonlinear Hawkes process. Under the same assumptions, we also obtain a Strassen's invariance principle, i.e. a functional law of the iterated logarithm.
For a measure preserving automorphism $T$ of a probability space, we provide conditions on the tail function of $g\colonΩ\to\mathbb R$ and $g-g\circ T$ which guarantee limit theorems among the weak invariance principle, Marcinkievicz-Zygmund strong law of large numbers and the law of iterated logarithm to hold for $f:=m+g-g\circ T$, where $(m\circ T^i)\_{i\geqslant 0}$ is a martingale differences sequence.
